30x Everyday Rewards Points with Apple Gift Card (Excluding $20 Denomination) @ Woolworths

3390

Take two. Full credit to @kelasen for the heads up.

Deal taken from the weekly catalogue starting 15 September.

Please note the following:

  • This deal requires an Everyday Rewards account. If you do not have an Everyday Rewards account, use this link to get 1,500 bonus points as a sign-up bonus. The sign-up bonus points can take up to 30 business days to be credited to your account.

  • The variable value Apple gift card (where you can load between $20 and $500) is part of this deal. You will earn 30x bonus points for every whole dollar you load onto that gift card.

  • Although the catalogue states the limit is 10 per transaction, some store managers have set their own limits on gift card sales (e.g. $500 per transaction, $1000 per day). You may need to split your purchases over multiple transactions or multiple days.

  • If you are planning to purchase $1000 or more in gift cards, your best bet is to go to a serviced checkout, not a self-service checkout. Large-scale purchases require additional approval steps, and it is easier if that is done at a serviced checkout with a dedicated checkout operator.

  • The older blue-coloured App Store & iTunes gift cards are not part of this deal.

Terms and conditions

  • Offer available from 15/9/21 to 21/9/21 on all denominations of Apple Gift Cards (excluding $20 Apple Gift Cards) in Woolworths supermarkets, Woolworths Metro and Woolworths MetroGo only, while stocks last.

  • Excludes Woolworths Online and Ampol Woolworths Metro.

  • Standard points will not be earned on amount spent on gift cards, but the relevant number of bonus points which you qualify for under this offer.

  • Bonus points can take up to 14 business days to be loaded onto your Everyday Rewards card from date of purchase.

  • Refer to individual cards for their terms and conditions.

  • $30 = 900 rewards points
  • $50 = 1500 rewards points
  • $100 = 3000 rewards points
  • $200 = 6000 rewards points
  • Limit of 10 per transaction applies.

Additional Information

Everyday Rewards Dollars

  • 2000 Everyday Rewards points is equivalent to $10 Everyday Rewards Dollars (redeemable at Woolworths, BIG W, BWS across Australia or Caltex Woolworths / EG Australia in mainland Australia) or 1000 Qantas points.

  • Everyday Rewards points can only be converted to Everyday Rewards Dollars or Qantas points in multiples of 2000.

  • Everyday Rewards Dollars cannot be used for any gift card purchases at Woolworths unless the bonus points you earn from the gift card purchase will push your Everyday Rewards Dollars balance above the $4500 limit.

Earning Everyday Rewards Points

  • Any purchase of any gift cards at Woolworths (or BIG W) will not earn any standard Everyday Rewards points.

  • Any purchase of any gift cards in this deal at Woolworths almost always do not count towards any other bonus Everyday Rewards points promotions (e.g. spend $x in one transaction to earn y points). However, a number of people reported in the previous Apple gift card deal that the purchase of Apple gift cards counted towards targeted/personalised Everyday Rewards points promotions. It is likely Woolworths has closed this loophole, so it is best to assume Apple gift cards no longer count.

  • If you are purchasing this gift card at a self-service checkout, you should be able to see the number of Everyday Rewards points you will earn as part of this transaction in the top right-hand corner of the payment screen.

  • You will only earn bonus points on every whole dollar loaded onto a gift card. For example, if you specify $50.50 as the amount to be loaded onto the variable value gift card, you will only earn 500 bonus points, not 505 bonus points.

Paying for Gift Cards

  • Woolworths’ POS system allows split payments for gift card purchases at self-service checkouts and serviced checkouts.

  • Gift cards issued by Woolworths Group Ltd1 cannot be used as payment for any gift cards at Woolworths (or BIG W). Attempting to redeem them on gift card purchases will be blocked by the POS system and return an error.

  • Prepaid VISA/Mastercard/EFTPOS gift cards (e.g. Coles Gift Mastercards, EFTPOS gift cards from this deal2) can be used to purchase Apple gift cards at Woolworths.

  • Make sure to check the small activation receipt that the checkout prints after a gift card purchase. If it says successful at the bottom of the receipt, the gift card was correctly activated. If it does not say successful, alert the service desk of the failed activation and they will sort it out. This receipt will be printed out even if you have turned off paper receipts for your Everyday Rewards account.

Odds and Ends

  • Gift card purchases at Woolworths will earn 4c/L (or 6c/L in Tasmania) fuel vouchers.

  • Gift card purchases do not count towards the spend requirement for the current Woolworths Brick promotion.

Using Apple Gift Cards

  • You can redeem up to 8 gift cards (in conjunction with an Apple Account Balance and/or a credit/debit card) online or over the phone at Apple.

  • You can redeem up to 8 gift cards (in conjunction with a credit/debit card) in-person at an Apple Store.

  • You cannot redeem an Apple Account Balance in-person at an Apple Store.

  • You can load multiple Apple gift cards to an Apple Account Balance, but the maximum balance is $4999.

  • Apple gift cards have no expiry date.

  2. Another user confirmed that EFTPOS gift card can be used as a payment method for Apple gift cards at Woolworths.

I finally managed to get my hands on some variable cards but it required the help of a friend in a small, regional town. None of the Woolworths in my 5km radius had even restocked the cards since the last promotion and repeated visits yielded nothing. Since time was running out, today I had my friend visit their local Woolworths which had dozens upon dozens of $100, $200 and $20-500 cards. I sent them a screenshot of my Everyday Rewards barcode and specific instructions on what to do and they bought $2000 worth on my behalf.

      • There were few $100 and $50 left in Camberwell when I picked up yesterday

      • Still trying my hardest to hunt them down in Metro Vic

Good luck. If you don't nab the ones you need within the first two days, it is pretty much game over.
Far too many brodens, and store managers on power trips!

  • So… is the next best thing 10% off For Him cards (for JB) and wait for a deal on Apple (or do those usually exclude phones?)

    • Perhaps this offer will be back in a couple of weeks.

    • +1

I think the only Apple products lineup that JB discounts at 10% regularly is Macbooks. If someone looking for Macbooks, then 10% off on JBH is better value than buying Macbook from Apple using this rewards offer. Only downside is, have to wait till the 10% off Sale from JB.

      • +1

Not all Macs sold at JB Hi-Fi are included in their periodic 10% off sale.

One of the major exclusions is custom to order (CTO) Macs. For example, if you want to buy an M1 MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM, JB Hi-Fi only sells that as a CTO option, which means that you generally cannot get a 10% discount on it.

      • @ashtdp Ahhh, thanks, good to know - I usually don't pay any attn to the Apple sales, but the missus wants a new phone but didn't tell me until the weekend when all gift cards in our area were long-gone.

        • I bought a MBP from Apple. I called customer service and they matched the JB/OW price.

  • Gift card purchases at Woolworths will earn 4c/L (or 6c/L in Tasmania) fuel vouchers.

How to get the discount at Ampol/Caltex? Is it like one off? Can i pay for gas with rewards dollars?

    • How to get the discount at Ampol/Caltex?

If you scan your Everyday Rewards card and spend $30 or more in one eligible transaction, the fuel discount will be stored on your Everyday Rewards account as an e-voucher. Otherwise, it will be printed out as a paper fuel voucher towards the bottom of your receipt.

      Ampol/Caltex

You need to go to an Ampol/Caltex that accepts Woolworths fuel discounts and present your Everyday Rewards card.

There is a filter on this page where you can quickly find such stations. You will quickly find that only a small proportion of Ampol/Caltex fuel stations accept Woolworths fuel discounts.

      Caltex Woolworths / EG Australia

Nearly all Caltex Woolworths / EG Australia fuel stations accept Woolworths fuel discounts. Apparently there are two or three fuel stations that are not accepting Everyday Rewards at the moment.

      Is it like one off?

      Ampol/Caltex

I presume so. I haven’t been to an Ampol/Caltex fuel station that accepts Woolworths fuel discounts in mainland Australia, so I’m not sure how it works.

For the Ampol/Caltex fuel station I used to frequent in Tasmania, all I had to do was show (not scan) my Everyday Rewards card, the shop attendant would manually apply the 6c/L discount and write down my Everyday Rewards card number on a copy of my receipt. It did not deduct any e-vouchers from my account.

      Caltex Woolworths / EG Australia

Yes. When you scan your Everyday Rewards card and finalise the transaction, you will have an e-voucher deducted from your account.

Can i pay for gas with rewards dollars?

      Ampol/Caltex

      No.

      Caltex Woolworths / EG Australia

Yes, but only at fuel stations in mainland Australia that accept Everyday Rewards. (As I said before, there’s probably two or three fuel stations on mainland Australia that currently don’t accept Everyday Rewards for some reason.)

However, Everyday Rewards dollars are not redeemable at any Caltex Woolworths / EG Australia in Tasmania, and you will also not earn any Everyday Rewards points on any purchases either.

  • Wouldn’t be surprised if Coles do something similar with FlyBuys

    • I noticed all the apple gc at my local were removed/sold. If they were stocked with the old iTunes ones maybe they are waiting for stock of the new ones.

      • I've seen Apple Gift Cards at my local Coles, at the self-serve checkouts

Thank you. Managed to buy $3,400 worth gift cards. The store lady was really nice and had to put it through as 8 different transactions. One of the benefits of living in regional Victoria.
Got 6 variables for $500 each and 2 $200 cards.

Redeemed the gift cards and added to my apple account balance.

  • +3

I got another $2,500 yesterday. $5,200 total. Iphone, Ipad, Accessories, and so many Qantas points. Thanks again to OP to making us aware of this.

  • forgive me if this has been asked - can I preload the gift cards on my apple ID account and use the credits in store? thank you guys

    • +2

      No.

As soon as you redeem Apple gift cards onto your Apple Account Balance, you are unable to use the Apple Account Balance on any purchases in-store. You can only use your Apple Account Balance on online or over-the-phone purchases.

      • +1

        thank you!

      • Oh I didn't know that - no dramas really though as you could do store pick up for any online order

        • +2

          True.

I think the only major scenario where you wish you could use your Apple Account Balance in-store is if you are at the Genius Bar and are about to pay for AppleCare+ repairs or out-of-warranty repairs.

  • +1

thanks, great deal, got some yesterday !

  • Ahh boo, missed out on this deal. Only decided to get the iPhone 13 after watching some review vids yesterday.

Do we think this deal will come back in Oct?

    • +1

I'm actually surprised that Apple has run this deal three times in a month (twice at Woolworths, once at BIG W). I know that Apple ran iTunes gift card deals quite regularly (sometimes at different retailers at the same time), but these gift cards can now be used to purchase Apple products, and I thought Apple would want to limit these kinds of gift card deals.

If I was a betting person, my guess is that there would be another promotion in 1-2 months, and it will probably be a Flybuys bonus points promotion at Coles.

If you are looking for a deal right now, there are some alternatives:

      • You can get cashback or an upfront discount on Apple gift cards everyday at a small number of gift card portals.

      • You can purchase the 10% off TCN HIM/HER/TEENS gift cards at Woolworths and then convert them to JB Hi-Fi gift cards (or if you're lucky enough to live in a place that isn't locked down, pay for it using the TCN gift cards in-store). This might be more desirable depending on your circumstances, because you get an upfront discount with the TCN gift cards, not a bonus that expires in 12 months time and that you can only spend at four (or three, if you're in Tasmania) retailers.

      • Three times a month?! Wow, it actually took some skill on my part to miss em all :/
I might wait around and see if anything pops up in Oct, seeing as even if I order now, the wait period for the new iPhones are that long anyway.
Fingers crossed someone will decide to run it again :/

  • All the members who have purchased the giftcards, how do you plan to spend them.
Im looking to pre-order Iphone 13 pro max and there is a wait till 25th Oct.
Any suggestions to get it earlier than that?

    • +1

Im looking to pre-order Iphone 13 pro max

Should have pre-ordered it last Friday at 10 p.m. …

      • I was hunting for ways to find discounts and i found this very late in the game.

        • Sometimes Apple releases pick up reservation stock on the launch date (i.e. tomorrow) so you might still be able to order one earlier if you're lucky.

          • @ChillBro: Yes they said check availability from 24th .. might have to sit around mid night and try my luck.

  • +3

Thanks OP for this awesome deal.
Bought 1700$ giftcard from Woolies spent on Iphone 13 pro 128gb for 1699$
got 250$ worth of woolworths rewards.
Claimed the phone 1699$ as salary sacrifice and got 700$ back :)
    Saved 700$+250$ = 950$ out of 1699$ ( Iphone 13 Pro 128gb got it for 749$ )

    • Sorry to ask this … How to claim as salary sacrifice ?.. is there something like we need to tell our employers or need to intimate anywhere else ?.. Kind enough to explain pls ?

  • +1

Man regret not buying more, I bought exact amount for 13 pro max and ipad mini, thinking about getting apple care and few accessories now, will wait hopefully similar deal may show up soon.

    • Assuming the last 2 deals were mid month Wednesdays, I am looking forward to this month, hopefully could arrive on 13th.

  • Hey @WookieMonster,

After reading your impressive write up on how difficult it may be to compromise a Coles gift card here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11164602/redir
the question that immediately comes to my mind is how easy would it be compromise a high value Woolworths Rewards card number?

Some of us here have probably amassed over $1K in RDs.

If someone happens to know the card number, then all they need do is run the numbers through a barcode generator, and print it out for scanning.

    • +3

I actually tested this out a few weeks ago after seeing a comment of someone complaining about their Everyday Rewards account being compromised.

An Everyday Rewards member number is really just a 13-digit barcode, so if you know the structure, you can use a generic barcode generator to come up with potential member numbers:

      • The first four digits are a prefix to denote it is an Everyday Rewards member number. I have seen two different prefixes for Everyday Rewards member numbers.
      • The next eight digits are unique to each member number.
      • A check digit at the end of number to ensure the member number is valid (because that’s how barcodes work).

If I have done my maths correctly, that would be 200,000,000 different potential Everyday Rewards member numbers. However, one of the Everyday Rewards number prefixes was also used as the prefix for the member numbers of the Frequent Shopper Club (F$C). Although Woolworths nuked that loyalty program at the start of this year, those numbers are probably still being used at the moment for F$C, as Woolworths in Tasmania is (likely) still allowing former F$C members to redeem their remaining balance. Let’s assume then there are a little under 200,000,000 potential Everyday Rewards member numbers.

The Everyday Rewards website states that there are approximately 13 million Everyday Rewards members in Australia. If I randomly generate an Everyday Rewards member number using the format described above (and take into account that a little less than 200,000,000 theoretical member numbers are reserved for Everyday Rewards itself), there is a 6.5% chance that the randomly generated number is for an active Everyday Rewards member account.

In terms of checking whether an account is active using a brute force (or guess and check) method without compromising anyone’s phone or laptop or email account, etc, there are three ways of doing it (that I can think of):

      • Attempting to log in to the Everyday Rewards account by using the account number as the login details and randomly guessing the two-factor authentication (2FA) code. My assumption is that too many incorrect guesses of the 2FA code will automatically block an account, and you would have to be very unlucky if someone guessed the 2FA code.

      • Activating a booster through the Everyday Rewards website for boosters where anyone can enrol in it via a link or QR code (such as the one in this deal).

You only need an Everyday Rewards account number to activate one of these boosters, and as soon as you activate it, you can see the other boosters associated in your account (including boosters waiting to be activated, activated boosters and expired booster), as well as the first name associated with the account. However, you (thankfully) cannot see the rewards option or the rewards balance (if there is one) through this method.

      • Scanning an Everyday Rewards member number at a Woolworths checkout in-store. If you scan an Everyday Rewards member number, the POS system should tell whether a valid Everyday Rewards member number has been added.

I think the in-store POS system for Woolworths’ outside of Tasmania can tell whether you have scanned a F$C member number instead of an Everyday Rewards member number and return an error, so that’s how you can weed out F$C member numbers. (I might actually test that out the next time I shop at Woolworths.)

If your redemption option is Money Off Shopping or Bank for Christmas and your Everyday Rewards Dollars balance is at least $10, you can see the Everyday Rewards Dollars balance on your account before you head to the payment screen. However, if it is January to November, you won’t be able to tell whether you can redeem any of the balance until you get to the payment screen (because of Bank for Christmas).

I don’t know how easy it is to change the Everyday Rewards member number you have scanned at a POS system in-store at Woolworths. I know at Coles that if you accidentally scanned the wrong Flybuys card at a self-service checkout and you haven’t finalised payment yet, you can scan another card and the POS system will change the Flybuys card straight-away (and that will not require staff approval).

There probably is a way to check whether a member account is active using only the member number through an online retailer that accepts Everyday Rewards, but I am not aware of one. For example, if you want to link an Everyday Rewards account to your BWS account on the BWS website, you need to login to the Everyday Rewards using the card number and password, as well as a 2FA code.

Although I said earlier that there is approximately a 6.5% chance you will come across an active Everyday Rewards account, the following factors will further lower the chance of coming across an account with a redeemable Everyday Rewards Dollars balance:

      • Some members opt for Qantas points as their redemption option.

      • Some members opt for Bank for Christmas, which will mean any balance cannot be redeemed for most of the year.

      • A lot of people who opt for Money Off Shopping (or in December, Bank for Christmas) will have zero balance on their account.

However, keep in mind that the likelihood of stumbling across an account with an available Everyday Rewards Dollars balance will increase in December, because people with Bank for Christmas will most likely have already unlocked their balances for redemption during that month. I guess if you are looking for accounts with high balances, the most sensible month to strike may be December, but I still think you need a fair bit of luck to actually randomly guess one of those accounts.

My honest opinion is that if a random person redeemed your Everyday Rewards Dollars balance (particularly a large balance) without your permission and without hacking or stealing anything from you, it is really due to bad luck on your part, rather than anything as sophisticated or as systemic as a BIN attack.
