  • omg.. good phone..

Yes, shame the retailer is dishonest. Would strongly advise to avoid them.

    • Thanks for the feedback Geewhizz. Could you please elaborate a little on the dishonesty? :o)

      • nah.. i bought lens $400+ from them, received in 3 working days! and price was cheapest amongst local retailers. they are good.

        • Thanks for the feedback erwinsie. Appreciate it :o)

Don't suppose you've bought a phone from them recently? There are not many complaints around the web re their camera equipment - look for reviews on phones etc and it's a whole different story, and with good reason.

        • yeh, if price is the only factor you care about.
I guess you never tested your lens AF, offset sharpness, and you will never need to service it.

        • @furyou

Please elaborate? I'm considering ordering lenses off them. Thanks!

      • +9

I bought the Note off these guys when they had it advertised for $579 (iirc) but 6 weeks after I had paid them for it I had to cough up another $20 blood money for them to actually ship it out to me. All the while all the orders processed off their eBay site were going through. So they pretty much kept telling us that there was no stock but shipping phones out for anyone who paid a higher price. There are a million posts about it here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1767801&p…

Short of it is I would NEVER buy from them again even if they sold the phone for $100. Imagine what would happen if you should ever have to send anything back to them. God help us all!!

        • Thanks alialoosh. That's great feedback. Won't even go near them then…. at least for phone sales.

        • +2

I would always pay by paypal or credit card. If this happens, you have every right to lodge a dispute (paypal) or ask for a chargeback (CC company).

If you pay with paypal, funded from your credit card you're doubly protected. I'd never had need to do a claim through paypal before dealing with these guys and after all the horror stories I'd read regarding paypal claims, was dreading it. It was soo easy though.

oh, and to top things off, in spite of having already told me they had received the phone I'd returned to them and promised multiple times that they'd refund but did not, once I'd filed the paypal claim, they had the cheek to try telling paypal they had not received it. lol

        • +3

Yeah thats all well and good getting a refund etc. But what we really wanted were the damn phones we all paid for.

All we got for our $600 was lies and broken promises about delivery.

Then the bombshell email we all got that was "WE DO NOT MAKE LOSS FOR ANY ORDER" (and that is their caps, not mine).

Well all I say to that is "We do not make any DWI order". And I urge everyone to seriously consider that.

        • +1

          Me too!
          Never deal with them again!!!!

      • +4

Thanks for the feedback Geewhizz. Could you please elaborate a little on the dishonesty? :o)

        Happily!

They deliberately sent me (and others) the wrong item, which we had to return at our own cost for a refund with which they were not forthcoming. If I had not paid with paypal (and escallated a claim through them) I'd still be waiting for them to return my money.

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/60200

The last time I checked their link in that thread (around mid February) what I had originally thought may have been a glitch (but it became apparent was intentional on their part) had not been fixed, even though they'd been aware of it since before christmas. I've checked again just now and it has been changed.

        • Thanks for the feedback Geewhizz. This has been really helpful. Will stay away from these guys. Guess the plan is to wait for the official release and see how the prices will change after that.

        • Did you have to send it back to HK or locally? The problem is if you have to send it back to HK then you can't use Australia Post because they don't allow lithium battery so you would have to use a courier which is very expensive.

I had to send it back to Sydney. If you do deal with these people, and do have to return anything, be sure to use Aust Post PLATINUM Express. When I originally returned it to them I did not foresee the hassles I'd have with them so figured the tracking afforded by Express would be adequate.

However, once Paypal became involved they were wanting trackable online, and with a signature. Fortunately the person I dealt with in Paypal was understanding of the fact that it had already been returned well before I involved them and so could not fulfil this requirement. It could easily have gone the other way though.

        • Just use Registered Post with signature. Express Post Platinum would be a waste of money because if your package contains lithium battery then it must be transported by road only.

No, DO NOT just registered post with signature. The item MUST be able to be tracked online.

As an aside, I discovered during the course of my experience with DWI that if you drop a regular express parcel into the yellow box it may not actually ever be scanned until it reaches the delivering post office. The post office here advised to always hand them over the counter.

          EDIT

I've just discovered that Aust Post do now offer an 'online tracking and signature' on Eparcels for an extra $3.05. Included insurance is only up to $100 though so for an item such as this you'd need to purchase extra.
          http://auspost.com.au/personal/additional-parcel-services.ht…

        • Registered Post do have online tracking and can only be lodged over the counter. I think this is what PayPal recommends. I've used this service many times. The tracking is actually better than Express Post.

      • i've purchased over $6,000 in photography gear from them on separate occassions (5D mk2 body, canon 24-70L, canon 70-200L 2.8 II, tokina 11-16 2.8, canon 35L, and canon 85L II) and have had zero issues with them. the longest i've had to wait from day of ordering is two business days. most orders were delivered the NEXT DAY (thats express from HK).

however, have never bought a phone/tablet from them yet. as they say: your mileage may vary.

        • Thanks for the feedback phorte :o)

    • +6

lowest price.. but retailer's reputation is even lower..

  • Have been keeping an eye on this phone for a while now. Been waiting for the local Australian release but it doesn't seem to be happening ever!!

Could I ask for feedback from people who have dealt with this website before? Thanks in advance :o)

    • +2

Apparently it will be offically launch in australia tomorrow.

Whoa!! Where do you guys get these information from? I'm obviously not on the correct websites! :P

Have you read the negs? There's a herd of people on Whirlpool who were basically held to ransom for more cash after literally months of waiting for their device to be delivered. And that was at a higher (advertised) price than this one!

Good luck getting anything out of them. They do not make loss on any order.

  • +4

Australian release should be later this week but I doubt it will this cheap. I would not buy from DWI though.

    • Really? Cool! Will wait a bit longer then…. will evaluate again after official release :o)

      Thanks Joe888.

  • Only 25 units available since midday so it's probably sold out already.

    • +5

If this is the case then be prepared for GNoteGate part 2. They don't tell you you are backordered, but if/when you are, and if they can't get it from their supplier with the required amount of profit, then you will be waiting for a very, very long time.

  • +4

oh no, not this mob again. bought mine when it was on special for $579 before christmas, then its all down hill from there………………….

    • That sounds pretty bad… could you elaborate a little on what happened? Thanks heaps.

      • +3

You might read this from Whirlpool.
        http://whrl.pl/Rc3niF

      • +3

Please don't ignore warnings against dealing with these people. On the offchance that you actually even receive the correct item, it's just not worth the heartache involved.

        • Thanks again Joe888 and Geewhizz. Appreciate the help and feedback that has really helped keep me away from probably getting scammed by this retailer.

          Cheers.

  • If you want a cheap-ish local set. Kogan has them for $569 + shipping ($19 or so).

Wait for official local sets before deciding where to get your from!

Still, local telcos have it on the $79 cap. Ouch.

    • That's my plan now too shawn_low. Will see how prices change after the official release and decide from there. Cheers.

    • +1

It was $559+$19= $578 from Kogan a few days ago, applied my X'mas gift card($225 for $300), so totally ended up at $503.

  • I have to ask, how on earth do they get it that cheap?
Is it a locked US plan phone? Or otherwise dodgy?

    • +1

Even though the note hasn't been released in Australian market officially.. UK, US, KOR, HK and etc had it for 4~5 months now..

      and you know the rest…

new top of the range phone starts selling at around $800~900.. and then the price slowly goes down as time goes…

    • I bought this phone unlocked in Bali last November for less than $600, it's only around $400ish now.

  • +7

A lot of people on Whirlpool forums have expressed their dissatisfaction in their dealings with DWI. Negging to provide a warning to people considering purchasing from this company.

    • For some reason the system won't let me. I don't know whether I should be feeling 'special' or ripped off. lol

    • -2

      Negging to provide a warning

of course, by doing that, people are less likely to see your warning….

      • +1

But one of the purposes of the neg vote IS to act as a warning.

of course, by doing that, people are less likely to see your warning…

If the 'deal' receives enough negative votes for the warnings to disappear, the 'deal' also disappears with them.

        • yep…. so if it's a dodgy company…. no one will know….

        • yep…. so if it's a dodgy company…. no one will know….

A lot of people won't read through endless replies in a thread. They WILL however check out why a person has made a negative vote.

        • A lot of people won't read through endless replies in a thread.

They won't even get the option….

    • I'm sorry, but I have to ask:

      andy19363 on 07/01/2012 - 14:06
Unfortunately, because of the many 'me too' neggers, the warnings will not be seen by most, as the post will have disappeared…
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61142

Is there any particular reason negative votes for DWI in particular come under criticism, when they're only used for the purpose they're intended?

  • While I don't doubt some people have had problems with DWI, I purchased two xoom's from them for a good price and did not have any problems.

  • the whirlpool thread does sound pretty bad. guess i was lucky then, i bought my Galaxy Note from them last year http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59325 and got it pretty quickly. my friend got the S2 at the same time from them and it arrived at around the same time as mine. everything was there and everything worked … so i hadn't had the need to contact them to experience the pain the guys from whirlpool had.

  • +2

I too recently brought a phone from their website. Paid for it, then they tell me they had the price wrong by like $100. Luckily they had not charged my credit card, but still annoying. Guess its not like the old days where retails still honour the price even though its wrongly advertised.

  • Will they honor this deal? or is it another Offer/Deal While Intoxicated? :D :D

    • Are you feeling lucky?

  • +3

After the last "WE DO NOT MAKE LOSS FOR ANY ORDER" debacle, there's no way I'd buy a Note (or anything, for that matter) from DWI

    They are Shoppingsquare 2.0

  • +2

DWI.. Never trust them, never buy from them.

Read more about their deceit here:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/WE+DO+NOT+MAKE+LOSS+…

Oh, and you can forget about claiming warranty, yet to hear from one person who has managed to claim warranty for faulty goods, even DOAs. Have heard pretty much everyone's request being ignored.

    Read the reviews here:
    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/digital-world-internationa…

  • +1

I'd say Kogan is prob the better option. They seem to be one of the cheapest at the moment, and I'd trust them a bit more in terms of warranty issues.

  • Thanks for the feedback guys :)
