Everyone is having mental health issues.

    Can't wait for travel!

    • +7

I'd be happy just going to another state, doesn't have to be overseas.

        • All good, opening up soon…Apparently you keep it all locked up until case numbers reach the highest of all time and death rates are heading up like a rocket…and don't you just love how covid is just infections or death… nothing in between.

        • +1

You're an idiot is all I can say as a Melbournian.

          • -2

@jaygee: Jeez you guys are ganging up on me like VicPol when they see a 70+ year old granny without a mask!

  • +10

    Phuk et, I'm in!

    • Yes sir!

    • +1

      1 minute later….ah…. I'm done

  • Don’t forget to gift or sell your $25 hotel vouchers in the classified section. 😊

    • Bought some Jetstar hotel vouchers here - then flight was cancelled. Wasted my money.

Lost the vouchers when accommodation was cancelled & refunded. Was no prospect of changing bookings to future dates - too uncertain next flight wouldn't also be cancelled.

Can only use 1 $25 voucher per booking.

      • +1

Changed these many times, including diffrent hotels. They simply transfer the credit.

        • Notice you are an experienced buyer of Jetstar vouchers.

Good to know can be transferred to other bookings (had no plans & may not happen any time soon).

Just a warning to others that Vouchers are not refundable. No great loss - vouchers were bought cheap.

Was advised by Jetstar Hotels last week to cancel, resulting in loss of the 4 $25 vouchers. Remaining payment was refunded.
Was not offered option to put vouchers towards new accommodation bookings.

Will remember next time to change date of booking to well into future rather than cancel - to maintain the Jetstar Vouchers! Can change those bookings later.

Looks like there are still too many costly and risky hoops to jump through :(

Have to pay for multiple PCR test, other COA requirements, extra insurance, special hotel. The cost of these are going to dwarf any savings on cheap flights.

Hopefully countries can start opening up a bit more soon.

    • No more COA, 2x PCR, possibly no more quarantine for AU soon.

    • Have to pay for multiple PCR test, other COA requirements, extra insurance, special hotel. The cost of these are going to dwarf any savings on cheap flights.

That's a fallacy. You still need to pay those as well on expensive flights.

  • +6

I’m keen to hear firsthand accounts of people travelling internationally for tourism before I jump on a flight. Not for health reasons, rather to know if it is worthwhile or just a massive amount of red tape for a mediocre experience. How are others feeling?

    • Just got back from 6 weeks in LA everything prettty normal of course we had a exemption and hotel q and then home q when we get back t it SA but outside of that and PCR tests everything normal overseas

      • +1

Say that again….? Which quarantines did you have to do, and how long…?

        • +1

Two weeks in Sydney in hotel then fingers crossed two weeks in SA at home

          • +1

@Gristy: 1 month of quarantine for a 6 week holiday sounds awful. But you do you.

            • @juxjux: It wasn’t a holiday.. it was compassionate and compelling reasons and got cut short because wife ended up in the ER after the treatment we were there to receive so we booked some last minute flights back

  • Just insane.

  • +1

Correct me if I'm wrong but federally we can't leave?

    • Yeah, you're wrong

    • +1

NSW is going to allow quarantine free returns from 1st November, you currently still need a permit but they should be easier to get now, and will soon be scrapped.
Other states aren't, so will need to deal with each state differently as their rules change on a weekly basis.

Other states residents will be able to re-enter Australia via NSW, but then home state may require 2 week hotel quarantine to enter from NSW.

NSW knows it stands to profit as the countries only international port. Empty the hotel quarantine, then fill them back up with stranded interstate refuges unable to return home.
Any corporation wanting to get their executive teams face to face internationally are going to have to look at asking those staff to temporarily relocate to NSW. Any visitors to Australia will happen in Sydney.

  • +5

The likelihood that you loose all your money is 100% if the borders don't open before departure dates.

You're better off booking directly with the airline.

I'd wait a little while longer before booking with a third party provider.

    • From Jetstars website

Jetstar is now selling international fares to Fiji and Singapore and trans-Tasman routes from mid-December. Other international destinations including Bali, Japan, Thailand, Hawaii, South Korea and Vietnam are available for 2022 travel dates.

      • Jetstar website only has availability from April 2022
        Availability with scoot however.
Thailand is dropping quarantine for selected safe countries from Nov 1
I think Jetstar will move flights earlier if Syd border opens and Thailand drops quarantine.

      But sure…."science"

    • Damn those pesky scientists with their science and life saving vaccines!

    • -1

IVM, you mean the horse de-wormer right?

I guess you could argue the point with the Thai govnt about an exemption. Good luck with that.

    • What do people in your family or workplace say when you tell them this? Hasn’t anybody tried to sort you out?

    • Someone taking all those things instead of a vaccine wont be mentally cleared to fly.

  • +1

    Boom boom

  • Why isn't jetstar selling these?

  • +1

I won't be spending on international travel during such uncertainty anytime soon. Can't trust overseas airlines to have maintained their airplanes properly during the downtime either.

    • -1

more seats for me then :-)

    • ohhh that spooked me, yeh nup!

  • Hi Mark

    • Who is Mark?

  • CAVEAT EMPTOR

  • Hopefully QLD will reopen their international borders soon

    • They're open. Just currently have to hotel quarantine for 2 weeks is my understanding.

  • If you do make it to Phuket just be aware that the tourism industry has been decimated by the pandemic.

You might get accommodation on the cheap but just know the nightlife, activity just isn't what it was before. Youtube Phuket sandbox to see how tourism is getting phased back in.

Yes they need our tourism dollars, but tourists need to adjust their expectations when going there this time around.

    • Plus I read in the newspaper there is currently an alcohol ban?
Thailand is a pretty warm destination without a cold beer.

    • If people are going for the whole Bangla road scene then obviously they’re going to be disappointed but there are great deals to be had for resorts that might never occur again.

  • +1

Damn I could do with a holiday to Thailand after the last 2 years.

But I have 2 young kids, I think we’ll hold off another couple of years.

  • -1

As tourism is down, you may expect crime against travellers increasing, e.g. Swiss woman back in Aug

  • +1

Can't see any flights for the price listed, let alone Jetstar even flying during that period.

  • +3

Currently an alcohol ban in restaurants and pubs. Only half a holiday really.

    • better off waiting a month or so until more restrictions are relaxed

Traveling to Thailand during Covid-19: What you need to know before you go

      What can visitors expect?

Restrictions imposed on 13 high-risk provinces were further eased on October 1.

Museums, art galleries, historical sites, ancient monuments, spas, cinemas, pools, tattoo studios and sporting facilities have been permitted to reopen under strict public health measures and limit the number of visitors at 75% of normal capacity.

Affected areas are Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Chon Buri, Chachoengsao, Ayutthaya, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Narathiwat, Pattani, Songkhla and Yala.

A curfew is in place in these areas from 10 p.m.-4 a.m. Restaurants in these areas are open to in-person dining, however, they are not permitted to serve alcohol.
Interprovincial travel has been allowed to resume, including domestic flights to and from high-risk areas. Full updates available on the Tourism Authority of Thailand website.

Entertainment venues — including bars and nightclubs — throughout most of the country have been ordered to close.

Masks are worn at all times in public, both indoors and out, while temperature checks are the norm. Those who do not wear masks face fines.

Areas within driving distance of Bangkok have been able to benefit from domestic tourists prior to the latest restrictions, but other normally popular destinations such as Phuket and Koh Samui haven't been as fortunate.

Visitors to these destinations will find empty beaches and heavily discounted accommodation options.
In Phuket, many shops, restaurants and hotels in the southern beaches of Patong, Kata and Karon have closed due to the lack of tourists.

      • +5

Wow with those conditions I'm actually tempted, there won't be drunk bogans everywhere. I can live without alcohol for a couple of weeks… doesn't seem it's the same for many others

        • +1

Not a big deal going without alcohol, but in a hot and humid place when you are letting your hair down and relaxing, its nice to have a beer. It isn’t necessary to have 20.

A cocktail on the sand or by the pool feels decadent and lovely.

          • @mskeggs: looks like dec 1 alcohol & entertainment back, themindsettraveller article below has more details

"Mr Prayuth said Thailand would also allow entertainment venues to reopen on 1 December and permit alcohol sales."

      • Depends what you want from it. The beaches and boat trips should be nicer than ever. A rare opportunity.

Not everyone is there for getting drunk in gogo bars.
The outdoor masks…the place is built of flexible application of the law in tourist areas with the occasional small bribe.

  • +4

For Australians, from 1 November, all you need is a negative test 72hrs prior to travel, and a negative test upon arrival and you are free to do whateverrrrr you want ! yay!!

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-58838189#:~:text=Thailan….

Now, for insurance, AXA offers Australians covid insurance for Thailand - so go WILD EVERYONE!!!

    • Only NSW can come home though, everyone else has to work out how to get home from NSW.

    • Looks like you'll need to prepay a 7-day stay in one of the designated SHA+ hotels too.

(edit: price isn't as bad as I was expecting .. found prices starting for ~$25/day .. but it means you don't have the flexibility to travel around in the first 7 days that you had in the past)

      • +1

You’re allowed to travel anywhere within phuket and the surrounding items you just need to stay at one hotel for the 7 days.

        • ive been to phuket. possibly the worst place ive ever been. i love thailand tho

        • I would stay in Aonang for 7 days; but not Phuket.

But relatively low vax rates: Pass

"It has fully vaccinated around 33% of its almost 70 million people. Half the population has received one dose."

No entertainment venues with alcohol open until Dec 1 I suppose would be an issue for some.

  • AXA quoted me 1,690 Baht for travel insurance for a 69 year old Australian holidaying 16 days in Phuket. Over 74s cannot be insured.

The insurance excludes 3 southern Thai provinces and injuries caused by brawling and intoxication. The insurance includes cover for COVID-19.

If you are double vaccinated, you need a negative PCR test before departure and another negative PCR test at the quarantine hotel.

Providing your test is negative, you are free to leave the quarantine hotel after one night. You can visit the rest of Thailand, but you do not have travel insurance for those 3 southern Thai provinces.
