I have placed an order earlier and a bit tempted to cancel it and try Pickup options. But I remember seeing a comment before in here noting they might trigger the one laptop per year limit and not able to order again…

Curious what you guys did to get same day pick up. When i tried to play with the AOC site, i can only see available for pick up are the default ones. When i try to customise, it only gives me the delivery only option.
@ozricoy: Only default configurations are held in Apple brick and mortar stores, anything customised is built to order and shipped.
@hotdogwater22: they have some upgrades too, just need to play around with their store to find the combination that the specific store has available.
@ozricoy: @ozricoy - That is right, customised isn't available for click and collect. I'd imagine they have to manufacture that stock first.
@StonedWizard: Kind of correct. They hold one other option with either upgraded RAM or upgraded storage per line. So you can play around with that to see what that option is. Everything else will be BTO.

Yes I checked out as guest and it went through (have recieved my ready for collection email). Going to pick it up after work then cancel the other due 11/11.
You’ll be fine I did exactly this. Pickup is available same day. Once I have this in hand I’ll cancel the other order. Just checkout as guest and if you’re super paranoid use a different email id / phone number from your original order. They can’t link the two orders that way.

I got the base spec 16 M1 Pro in Space Grey. I had a M1Air 8gb prior to this and it was plenty powerful even though I used it for coding and photo/video editing. Honestly unless you’re into 8k multiple stream editing / Pro res you won’t be able to tell the difference. Only reason why I sold the M1 Air was the screen size. I need all the real estate I can get.

FYI I placed an order for the base 16 inch model at 10am and picked up at 11am. They only asked for my ID (I’m a student tho so wasn’t too concerned about that, just letting every know).
Did they specifically ask for your student ID? 🤔 Or a drivers license to prove your identity on pick up will do?

I’ve picked up an iPad in the past using the edu store they don’t ask for student id just a regular government id for pickup to make sure they’re handing it over to the correct person.
Is anyone else getting the mag safe cable? I understand you can’t fast charge the 16 without it. I couldn’t find it when ordering the 16 but was impatient maybe I missed it.
The mag safe cable is included with the order whether you get the 14 or 16 inch MBP. The optional is the magsafe extension wire.

Yes, I used Mum's CC (they get reward points and I don't) and my invoice had Mum's name, a little annoying since I'll be claiming it on my taxes.

these are questions that you should ask yourself.
do you need the extra storage? do you find yourself carrying around a portable ssd/hard drive, and would like the peace of mind of having the extra storage on hand ready to go. will you use the MacBook long-term and would prefer the extra storage, instead of picking an external ssd down the line.
do you travel alot, and require faster charging or is your MacBook always docked at home. or do you just charge overnight whenever your battery depletes at the end or the day. for a $20-30 upgrade, i'd personally pick it up. my only concern would be the size of the charger which may limit portability.

@edfoo: Ah okay…..yea true! Even JB has the 10% off sometimes; most likely early December it might come back. But they don’t do any custom builds (like upgraded ram or cpu) at that discount. I tried with JB 2 years ago and they refused to give me the discount for an upgraded RAM.

For those concerned about apple audit. I’m under the impression that if you head to the teachers union website you can just sign up and become a union member. The cheapest subscription is about $60 a year. Not sure if it works because I haven’t actually pulled the trigger but I guess it could be a solution if they audit you? What do you guys think?

Best chance to not get audited is to just click and collect at a local apple store to eliminate the risk of them asking for proof before shipping out the product

The click and collect was open on Tuesday. I canceled my pre-order (ETA 11/11) and did a pickup at Fountain Gate. If it didn't/doesn't give you the option to pick up now it's because that configuration is sold out, I don't think the customs were able to be C&C also.
@bluebear_74: I was reading in the comments of this thread someone said not to cancel the pre-orders or else they wouldn’t qualify for a second purchase (aoc store has a limit of one computer each solar year?). Did you do it through the AOC store?

Agree. The idea of screen protector on this laptop is silly. It's not like you will be constantly tapping and swiping on the screen, like you do on an iPhone or an iPad.

My order has been shipped today but will come to Melbourne from Sydney on 8th. Pick up was an option for the last couple of days but I did not want to cancel, get the gift card balance back and then place another order.

I’ve had 18-25 November since ordering a couple of weeks ago. Still in processing stage. My experience with apple is dates are reliable and don’t normally change unfortunately.
I had 25 Nov to 3 Dec, but got a surprise your order has shipped email last night. Its sitting in China as of now.
I just noticed apple charged my card on Friday but the order page still shows “Processing” with estimated ship date of late Nov-early Dec. (BTO 2TB 16” max)
Good sign that I’m pass any potential audit? Assume they wouldn’t charge otherwise.

Yes, I did do it C&C via AOC. I've done it the exact same way with a M1 MBA a couple of months ago and no questions asked. They simply check your ID, scan the pickup qr code and hand over your laptop.
