Repeat of this recent popular deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/655622

This time both the 3200mhz (16-18-18-38) and 3600mhz (CL18-22-22-42) are priced at $89 plus shipping plus 1% surcharge for Paypal and card payment.

3600mhz: https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/g.skill-ripjaws-v-16g…

For those wondering about the differences between the two, this answer from Reddit user "RiftbladeMC" seems to shed some light:

"There are 3 things which effect ram performance:

  1. Latency. This is how long it takes to retrieve data from the ram. The latency can be calculated by CAS/MHz*2000.

Both 3200cl16 and 3600cl18 have 10ns latency.

Tie.

  1. Bandwidth. This is the total amount of data being transferred. This can be calculated by MHzchannels8.

3600MT/s has 57.6GB/s bandwidth.

3200MT/s has 51.2GB/s bandwidth.

3600MT/s wins by 12.5%.

  1. Infinity Fabric. The Infinity Fabric is used for every single data transfer inside the processor. On Ryzen the infinity fabric performs best when at a high speed and the same as the actual ram speed. Since ram is DDR the effective speed is double the actual speed.

With 3200MT/s ram the infinity fabric is at 1600MHz.

With 3600MT/s ram the infinity fabric is at 1800MHz.

3600MT/s wins by 12.5%.

3600cl18 wins in 2 out of 3 categories and is tied in the other category."

  • Is this ram any good for Intel i5 9600k cpu?

    • I believe the i5 9600k can only use speeds up to 2666hz, no?

      • Can go over that speed with a Z motherboard and turning on XMP in BIOS; I'm running 3600/C16 with an i7 8700 and Z370 board.

        • Yeah I have Z390 motherboard and currently, I have manually overclocked HyperX Fury to 2800 CL 14. Will there be any significant benefit in gaming using 3600Mhz ram?

@powerful9990: RAM speed doesn't matter as much for Intel; it's Ryzen that really benefits from higher speeds.

I bought a Crucial 3600/C16 kit late last year from Amazon as it was a good deal and I was planning on moving to Ryzen… which I'm still yet to do. Might end up sticking with Intel for my next upgrade though; they're getting competitive again.

            • @MiscOzB: Heat on Intel is crazy.

              • @Richardc: True, and I'll definitely be considering that. I'd be pairing with a 3080 which is plenty of heat already haha.

Another option is the Aegis 16GB 3200/C16 for $79 https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/g.skill-aegis-16gb-2x…

Surprised no one's posted or mentioned yet. Buy 2 of them and it's cheaper per GB than yesterday's deal for 32GB.

    • To be fair, yesterday deal is 2x16GB modules while the one you linked is 2x8GB so you need to use 4 DIMM slots to get the same capacity.
If you only have 2 DIMM slots or you want upgrade options without replacing the whole RAM set then yesterday deal is for you.

Also it's slightly cheaper if you buy 4x individual 8GB modules ($2 difference overall)

    • Chance of falling is higher with 2 sets of cheap ram.

    • Factoring $12.50 delivery = $91.50. Still a good deal but these days for $10 more, you get RGB.

Yep, I've seen some better value deals since I posted that comment, like the Crucial kit linked below.

upvoting for your explanation in Ram

  • What 32gb kit should i get for a 5950x?

Currently have 16gb corsair rgb vengeance 3200mhz

prob a much better option, $16 more for defo micron rev e which you can defo overclock much better than whatever garbage ic's they put in these

although if your just setting xmp or need ram this is fine and a good price

    • ShoppingExpress had these in non-RGB for $100 last week, and 3600mhz C16 for $117.

      • Yea, and with + shipping.

        • Actually I got free shipping when I bought 2 kits, but that promotion is over now

Shipping kills the deal. 30 bucks to WA? What are they, hand delivering them?

    • -1

It's not their fault you live on the furtherest state away from them

      • Would still only cost them under $10 to ship it though…

      • state-wide shipping should remain the close to the same price, with the only difference being in later delivery times.

Just found the 3200Mhz kit of this on eBay for $95 shipped with the code SPENDNSAVEMORE https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184422005065 Not sure if free shipping requires eBay Plus though.

Agree with @abjsdhasehasee above though, worth the $10 extra for the Crucial kit even if you don't want RGB (could just keep it turned off).

Thanks, the shipping costs killed it for me.

      • that kit says its 3200 c16 in the title but also if you scroll down says its a 3200 15-15-15-35 1.35v kit which is a terrible bin but still a bin of b die.

although theres a 99.9% chance you get 3200 c16. but if you somehow get the flat 15 kit thats bdie

  • great informative post. thank you.

  • Is this ram any good for a 3200G?

  • Performance wise 3200 cl16 is the same as 3600 cl18.

    • It's not. 3600CL18 will allow for higher 1:1 infinity fabric speeds, which reduces inter-CCX latency, I/O latency, and cache latency. There's also the added bandwidth and potentially tighter subs.

CAS latency is actually not even top 3 for most influential DRAM timings in games. tRFC, tFAW and tRCD(RD) are.

  • New to this. I already have a corsair vengeance lpx 16gb 3600mhz. What will be the impact on speed if i combine these ?
