Looks like my previous comment didn't go too well with some trolls

I think it’s because people believe you’re missing the mark on this. This isn’t about the credit card. It’s about the voucher. $1500 over 3 months is fairly easy for anyone. As long as you pay the balance back each month to zero and cancel once you’re satisfied you meet the criteria for the GC it’s more or less a free gift card. Do this twice a year and you’re credit record stays in good shape(from my experience and research). Otherwise, yeah you would be right, it’s a stupidly large yearly fee.

    • +1

That's very common dude. Not really a surprise

      • -5

You're right. Seen It too many times here

  • +2

Sorry amended 👍 first year churn and burn card for y'all doin it 😎

"Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria."

  • +4

From memory, they have the highest number of questions for a credit card application.

    • +15

True. From Westpac 60 second approval being the best experience I had to ANZ asking 99 questions

Though sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze 🤣 but man they pushing it 🤣

      • +8

They disapproved my application for unknown reason, but back of my mind I think the reason was my honesty :)

        • Sometimes the truth hurts haha and they got hurt

Maybe this time U will be successful!

But could be a number of things.

          Current liabilities

          Income

          Outcome daily expenses

          Current credit

And X amount of credit enquiries don't help either.

        • U were honest on application for credit, tutt, tutt

        • +1

I got rejected for a card a few years ago, when I told them I had 200k in savings, wasn't impressed.

      • I had to go into a bank, and guess what? They still rejected me, apparently the photo copies of my payslips weren't good enough from their own bank!

I fully flipped, and they approved me. Worse bank to deal with in approvals.

Amex was a pain only once, I gave them remote access. Basically I log into my bank through a portal and they see my work payments and I got approved instantly.

Unfortunately my payslips have my name on the outside, information on the inside to protect.

        • I fully flipped, and they approved me.

Oh THAT's how one gets them to overturn a rejection!

          Just get angry, folks! lol

  • +4

the black has always been 180,000 points no annual fee. no need to give pointhacks the referral if the deal isnt any better. (can get an $800 gift card) is misleading marketing because it implies the gift card is additional to the points

    • +5

The black is definitely a better deal, but the platinum has slightly lower spend requirements and would be more likely to be approved.

      • Sorry didn't quite get that. I am new into credit cards.

How black credit card is better than platinum?
Didn't know you get complimentary insurances I thought it was always rewards points system and company likes Amex has always specials deals for their users.

Any other recommendation or insight will be great help?
        Thanks in advance!

        • +2

The black card gives you $800 in gift cards and platinum only $500. If you have good credit/income then black is a no brainer.

People who are churning cards don't care about how many rewards points you get per spend, extra insurance etc. The idea is you spend the minimum, get the bonus reward and close the card.

          • @Aureus: Cool thanks for the explanation.
But won't they blacklist me if I close it after claiming the gift cards only and they not gonna issue any credit card again in case I ever need it again and affects the credibility?

            • @sahilk: Yeah I wanna know this too, since I have the anz rewards black and intend on churning.

The hits you'll get on your credit report might raise eyebrows, if you get rejected from any.

Generally there's exclusion periods (eg: 18 months) before you can apply for another ANZ style card, so by that time they probably won't care.

            • @sahilk: I guess it is possible, but never heard of that happening to anyone. If you have good credit history and income you can churn fairly often without issues and keep an excellent credit rating.

              • @Aureus: Cool! Thank you for the information.
I will apply for black and will see how it goes. The plan would be to get this $800 gift card and close it straightway :)

          • @Aureus: What's the link to the black cards with referral? I have to go to the USA for near 2 grand. May as well get 800 for it

    • +1

Just because it's better doesn't mean everyone can use it. They may have it already or been rejected so this deal is fine grumpy bum

      • that's me! just got rejected on that offer a few weeks ago… what's my chance of getting approved for this ?

    • Can the points be redeemed for cash instead?
Just did that with the HSBC card

      • Not cash but the $800 can be used to pay what you owe on your credit card

        • Yeah I meant as a credit.
It can come up as credit?

  • The ANZ black rewards is a much better offer. Great find.

  • +8

They rejected my card, then approved it, sent me the card, and received a rejection later a few days later. How bad is their backend management?! I had to explain my financial situation 2/3 times to different guys. The only reason I proceeded is that they made double credit checks for a single application. Such a shit experience from ANZ!

    • +1

I had the same problem where they took so long to review my application and ended up doing double credit checks (and still being rejected). I raised a complaint with them about the double check and got them to remove one of them from my credit report.

  • +1

How much in minimum income requirement? it only says Have a good credit rating

    • +1

It's usually 35k to 40k for platinum cards.

      • Thanks mate also do you know about varying income, every week, how many payslips do they need dating back to ? with combank it is 2 payslips.

Also do you know if they consider casual or something like non-contracted part time hours worked as income?

        • +1

That's the painful part of ANZ's credit card application. They require 3 months of payslips. However, if you don't work full time, I believe they will ask you a lot of questions.

Do some search on OzB, and you will find that many people have bad experiences with the assessment team.

          • @me1stt: Made a call to them after application.
Was too long wait on the phone. (BUT LESS THAN COMBANK 132221's wait times)
Although the guy was really very helpful, He said he referred application to supervisor and they'll access it within 3 business days
He said outcome is likely positive. My income is not really that much high NOR is my Credit score that good, btw 639-763 (depending on bureau.

IDK to me it seems like ANZ rejects all the people with six figure incomes, while approving all the ones with less than 60K income, and with sh*t credit scores.

Seems like they only want those people who are likely to max out CC most. Also supported by this comment

          • @me1stt: I take my word back, the supervisor/assessors are really on an insane nature. They require too much information to that point where an employee feels like they are harassing employer for information. I am in more than good enough financial position for this card, but it's their assessor who just really like to harass customers asking too much stuff. Didn't have much issue when applying with Combank's low Fee Gold CC, But this ANZ banking corporation is just insane man.

I can assure you even a full time Employee is not at ease of getting approved from ANZ especially if they changed their employment position from e.g. Casual/part-time to Full time.

      • Isn't it 75k for platinum cards? AMEX platinum deal on here is 60k at the moment.

I'm on 40k and less than 60k and looking for offers. Going with the HSBC with $600 cashback until something better shows up, or when I get pay rise next year.

        • AMEX credit card tier is a bit different I think.

Westpac platinum requires 30k, and Citibank requires 35k.

  • any mastercard offers? I need something to replace my Visa on Amazon!

    • +1

I use the bundll (BNPL) virtual mastercard. That way I can spend between credit card offers and pay off using card I intend to churn.

    • use coles mastercard and is free

    • +1

      Bankwest Zero Platinum MasterCard.

    • +1

Way around that is just get a ZIP account and pay it off with your Visa card each month (that's what I do). Currently there is a promo of getting $30 credit if you have someone refer you. You and the referrer get $30 each.

      • And that payment to Zip via ANZ CC count towards the eligible rewards transactions ? (aka earn you reward points)?

    • tried VISA … Debit for Amazon? works.

  • +4

DINKS (Double Income No Kids) both on six figure salaries, low debt. 99 questions and was refused last time. Won't bother again with ANZ.

    • It's because theyt can't make any money out of you.

      • Not an issue by any cards running through the citibank system. It was just a waste of my time.

        • That just proves that citibank is hopeless in catching the people unlikely to make money

    • Not at risk of going into debt enough.

    • How many credit cards opened/closed in the last 12 months?

      • Maybe 1? Probably none. Definitely not a high churner.

    • Genuine question, why would you need a credit card when you've got two 6 figure salaries going for you? Is it just for the extra bonus stuff and intend on cancelling it after that or is it to improve your credit rating? I don't understand the system.

      • +4

Points to travel. If you are going to have to pay for something, might as well get free travel points doing it.
I put everything on credit and pay it off fully at the end of the month. Doesn’t cost you anything extra if you consider the annual fee as “buying Qantas points”.

      • +2

Look up credit card churning, points hacking. Lots of articles written on it. It can be an easy way to earn free flights. There are a bunch of other perks that if use them carefully. https://flighthacks.com.au/point-hacks/

      • +4

Not speaking for scratchy, but two 6 figure salaries doesn't mean you are rolling in cash. Could easily be all going to the mortgage(s). Also, I think the more you earn the more you spend so it is all proportional.

        • True, but when you pay off a mortgage you're not losing money, you're just reducing your liabilities. I guess it just wouldn't make sense to me to put all your money into your mortgage and then incur intrest debt on credit cards instead. But I see what you're saying!

          • @Castcore: Who pays interest on their Credit Card? Put all your spare cash in a offset and then pay the CC in full once a month.

            • @tomfool: That was just in response to the above comment about people who are not necessarily rolling in cash and put all their money into their mortgage. If it's just a mortgage offset account then it's the same as just having the cash.

But yeah, most people have said that's what they do (what you said).

      • +1

Sign up bonuses are great. Plus you get tons of offers regularly especially on Amex cards. You can keep switching from one bank to another but eventually you do run out of cards to churn. I never use debit cards or cash. All expenses are made using credit cards and I repay the enitre amount before time for all my credit cards.

      • +1

How do you not know about the frequent flyer program?

If you accrue enough points you can travel around the world in business class etc..

The only way for us plebs to do this is via cc ff point offers.

        • I'm only a student so it hasn't exactly been a priority for me and I doubt I'd even be eligible for a lot of these.

I've thought about getting a credit card just to get a credit rating and hopefully make it easier to get a loan in the future, but I haven't really looked into it all that much.

I'll have to sus out the frequent flyer stuff.

    • I should also add my credit score was ~840 (very high).

      • +2

Maybe that's the problem. Credit score of 500-600 and haven't been rejected once.

  • +4

same experience here. six figure salaries only 1 credit card and have home loan with them. yet got rejected. never again with them

    • Move your home loan and I am sure they'll approve you

      • I had the opposite experience, applied for CC with them and was declined. Few months later moved my home loan to them and asked for the same credit card and was then approved.

    • -1

Prob cos u have a home loan with them… Duhhhhh

  • I can apply for the Black at the end of the month, I've been waiting to cancel my AMEX.

I hate cancelling AMEX, always good offers and a great card to hold.

    • +1

If there's one thing I see constantly, it's stores saying they don't accept American Express. How good is it? Whats the best part?

      • +1

You're right! I can never use it at half the places I visit.

But you get good credit bonuses! ATM Vinomofo $60 back on $299 spend
They and Boozebud ages ago, and many other places which normally it stacks with codes + cashback.

      • +1

It's honestly pretty annoying.. But like Adelv said, they often have pretty good deals.

      • Holding an Amex is massively overrated on this site.

I earn my 100k bonus velocity or Qantas points as fast as I can every 18 months and close immediately (to restart that clock again).

    • Why cancelling it?

      • Just in order to flip every 18 months, the pts bonuses are huge these days and it converts to Krisflyer pts well.

  • Stupid question but presuming every time I apply for credit card that would effect my credit checks/points or whatever they call it?

    • For a limited period of time (around 12 months from memory).

    • It will recover till the time you cancel this card end of the year and apply for a next one.

    • from my experience (Someone with little to no Credit history) gets a credit score boost upon just a few days after getting approved for any credit cards (the more the reputable bank bigger the increase e.g. AMMEX a higher increase likely than compared to like BANKWest which is not that popular). Only things that have dropped my Credit score are utility companies(Telco and ISP), and ZIP (And they dropped it by quite a lot).
Nevertheless from research I think your score will be back to the normal (if it went down, especially if it went down a lot) after 3-5 months.

  • +2

Last time I got this card I met the minimum spend and spent the next few months trying to chase up the reward.

After multiple CSR promising me that I had met the requirements and that the GC would be sent to me, someone finally came up with the excuse that paying my car rego "wasn't eligible" and told me to pound sand.

I would probably avoid this deal, but if you do apply for it be sure to only spend on retail purchases.

    • Better option is to buy gift cards.

    • +8

I had the same situation but made an official complaint via AFCA (https://www.afca.org.au/make-a-complaint). Once the complaint had started an ANZ customer service rep contacted me and I had the giftcard in a days.

      • +2

My experience in dealing with HSBC's complaint against AFCA, is no useful at all. Feeling like AFCA is slack as well.

    • +1

One of the things that you won't earn points on is clearly documented under the eligibility criteria as "government charges", which Rego fits under.

So yeah, it pays to read the T&Cs.
