If, for example, a shop is not classified as a retail merchant by the card scheme, it will not be treat ed as "eligible retail shopping" for the purpose of this promotion

No idea how you'll know if a place is elligible until after the fact :/

    • +1

Same. I have opted-in in the app but after reading the terms & conditions twice I still have no idea where I can and where I can’t spend money towards this cashback.

      • +1

Reminds me of these equally opaque and difficult to achieve credit card rebate schemes from when I lived in Singapore!

    • +1

well, most people aint gonna spend $500 just becuase of the cashback, but if you do and you get it, then winning :)

  • +1

Targeted :( where did you find it?

    • +1

Once logged into Citibank app, on the summary page under the credit card balances there was a banner for this offer.

      • Can you still see in after you opted in?

  • Citibank app doesn’t work on the new Pixel phones rip

    • Same issue here. Do you get stuck on the initial blue screen?

I installed the app on an old phone and they have a message in the app saying to uninstall Android System WebView to fix it but it didn't work for me. I have been pulling my hair out trying to fix this, I wish they put the message in the play store rather than in the app that isn't friggen workin.

      • +2

Mine won’t even get to the blue screen. Open app, flashes, and immediately closes.

Don’t get me started on the lack of GPay, either …

        • So not worth getting Pixel 6 then?

        • Developer mode on? Coles Mobile Wallet app which is run by Citibank recently does exactly the same thing on my phone. Flashes open, immediately closes. Read on the Whirlpool forums that Citibank have implemented new 'security' features. Turned it off, app started working again. Annoyingly.

          • @aleayr: Nope. Considering it’s a brand new phone, I would hope developer mode isn’t on …

    • +2

It's not really a pixel issue, the app hasn't been updated to work with the new android Webview. I think they're slowly rolling out an update, mine started working again today.

      • Yeah. I just tried and still not bloody working. Just as well I have my iPad mini 6

      • I got a message from Citibank saying the issue with Android phones has been fixed. Can't confirm nor deny as to get it to work I installed the app on my old $30 Alcatel 4.5 (Android 5).

    • Citibank fixed this with app update late October.

      • Nope. Still not working on Pixel 6 Pro. If you’re on Android, just check out the reviews of everyone else complaining about the same thing.

  • Is Amazon included ?

I saw in the citibank bank briefly but after I opted in, it was gone and I couldn't find it anyway. Never received email from them.

Had a chat with citi rep but he has no idea either…

citibank still no google pay :(

    • +1

      They are so, so crap.
No G Pay, app is a dog's breakfast and doesn't work on Android 12, and terrible unclear offers like this one.
Only have a card because I have it fee free as a backup to an Amex. Otherwise… Can't believe anyone would pay

      • lol same. Fee for life card, shittiest service ever

      • Works fine for me on my Pixel 3 (running Android 12). But yes app doesnt feel as smooth as previous, but does work. And in fact opted in no issues.

  • Thanks for posting. Looks like it's not targeted but limited to the first 10,000 primary cardholders.

  • How do u opt-in? Are we supposed to get an email for that? Or any link to opt-in?

  • I just installed the Citibank app on my iPad and saw the offer, so opted in.

    • Thanks for the link, easier to find using that

  • opted in, now to see where is eligible.

  • opted in, but too vague to understand if it will be a deal finally

  • is charges from ZIPpay considered as retail?

    • No; that’s a third-party payment processor

      • My understanding that PayPal is a third party processor, zip is a.merchant and classified as retail and personal in my stg credit card

        • That’s St George. Citibank may be different.

          • @kerfuffle: I will ask the rep if my past Citibank charges are retail.

            • @jimwh: Asking a Citibank rep something Imo is seldom worth $100.

        • Paypal transactions do not have a merchant classification (whatever the acronym is) or its always "payment gateway" there isnt any way for a bank to know what business the merchant does. Thats why every bank that gives extra points for certain busines types always says 'except paypal', its not that they hate paypal, they just dont know.

I recall AMEX said "we assign all paypal to retail shopping"

  • Done, opted in.

Will try to do my Xmas shopping in that week (up to $2,000).

    • Don’t forget $500 or more

      • Yes, correct, transactions > $500 in one or more transactions on eligible retail shopping.

Get myself some new work clothes and a bike for my son.

        • Good point I actually misread it. I thought each eligible transaction had to be over $500

          • @grasstown: So, we can do small-2 transactions in that week but will only get 5% if the total spend is between $500-2000?

            • @hanofee: I plan to do a 2000 spend so won’t need to find out

  • So vague…eligible retail….so many questions…does that includes eBay or Digidirect. Almost a try and hope for the best…

I got a different offer. My available balance as cash at 0%p.a and a one-off 0.9% fee. And a $200 gift card. Pretty sweet.

    • $200 GC sounds nice. Only got $100 a few times so far

    • For 0.9% and 200gc you need to pay it back in 6 months.

      • Oh, the $200gc is only available for ready credit not credit card.

    • They offered me that but I never accepted, the minimum was too high. They tried again with a different offer and I bit.

We have noticed that you have not used your Citi Lending Account ending in xxxx in a while.

To get you restarted, you have the opportunity to receive a $100 eGift Card from your choice of Myer, JB Hi-Fi or Woolworths when you spend $200 or more on cash advances or retail purchases between 1 November 2021 to 31 December 2021.

  • Fingers crossed Westfield gift cards via concierge are classed as retail

  • Thanks!

  • Do CitiBank have some kind of strict lending criteria? I've tried twice in the past to get similar cashback cards and been rejected despite making well above median a year

    • Citibank are notorious for being polar extremes. I find if you are able to get Citi once before, getting it again on other cards later wont have issues. Where as if you were declined, will continue to get declined with no reasons given. Ive been bless to be on the approved train and was able to do few times the Citi, Virgin Monday, QF money train.

  • i didnt have error with my new update.

    for people with error.
Important Notice : Some Android users may experience issues with the Citi Mobile® App after the recent upgrade from Google. We are working on it, meanwhile please uninstall 'Android System WebView' app from your play store to continue using the Citi Mobile® app.

  • Citibank is the Harvey Norman of credit cards. I won't touch them regardless of price or offer.
Horrible company, horrible service, horrible fees.

    • While I don't think they're great, card fee free for life and letting me pay rent without fees for rewards points is kind of the opposite to horrible fees

    • +1

Well, there’s no fee and u missed out on a lot of deal this year if u just search Citibank on ozbargain. Best credit card of the year for me

  • Also got a separate promotion from them to spend $3000 between 1 November 2021 and 31 December 2021 to receive a $100 eVoucher. I guess the 2 offers can stack and earn $200?

    • It would. Also your offer seems to count any spending including bills when I got it earlier this year

  • Annoying that they make another offer app only.

They seem to be obsessed that everyone uses a mobile to deal with them.

  • Is there a way to actually find out about and confirm this "card scheme information" by doing some testings?

  • +1

Doesn't come up at all in my citibank app - odd.

    • +1

It was on the main page near the bottom, not on the rewards tab

  • Assuming you can't buy wish gift cards

"Eligible retail shopping includes spend made online and instore from merchants that are classified as retail (excluding supermarket and petrol)"

    • +2

Could possibly buy them from Big W or BWS?

      • How would they know if you purchased a gift card?

        • That's not what the question is. They wanted to know where you can buy Wish gift cards at a retailer that isn't a supermarket or petrol station.

  • Is there a way to confirm whether I've opted in? I think I've opted in but there is no email for confirmation, and the offer no longer available in App.

    • +1

Yeah I had the same problem, there's nowhere to check. Doesn't surprise me though, their website is garbage and so is the app.

    • I received an sms today to say "Thanks for opting into your Citi Cards Cashback offer. Don't forget to spend $500 or more, in one …"

  • +1

I think this is expired now/reached the 10,000 sign-ups. No sign of being able to opt-in in the mobile app.

    • Guess they reached the 10K cardholders cap

  • Confirm I could still opt in as of 5 minutes ago

  • Where does people see the banner in the app? I’m using iOS but the app is so buggy and unable to log in until after several attempts. And once logged in, I couldn’t see any banner in all of the sections. Maybe I’m not targeted…

  • So does each transaction have to be a minimum of $500 tog eg the cashback?

Or you can do multiple transactions to reach the $500 amount?

    • Spend $500 or more on eligible retail spending (excludes supermarkets and petrol). In one or more transactions online and in-store between 24 Nov - 1 Dec.

Pays to read the OP …

  • Thanks Op. So where are people thinking of spending $500?

    • Gift card?

  • I hope purchases at Myer is counted

  • +7

Spoke to call centre. Although they insist there is no "list of qualified merchants" they were able to confirm on record that purchases from the following retailers would "definitely 100%" qualify for this rebate.

These are the retailers I specifically checked off with them as I know I'm very likely to make a purchase in that period:
    - Microsoft online
    - JB Hifi
    - Harvey Norman
    - Amazon Au
    - eBay

    • eBay - so directly using your credit card and purchasing from any seller? Might be interesting esp. with the current Bing Lee/TGG/other promos going on.

    • Thank you for sharing!! Now time to go shopping for the latest Apple Watch.

  • Did anyone get the confirmation?

  • Just got a text and an e-mail thanking me for enrolling into the offer (if anyone was after a confirmation)

  • Completely forgot about it till the sms just now.
