  • Got mine today, thanks dessytek!!

Anyone have issues installing an OS? Trying to install windows 7 via USB and get an error on creating a partition, windows 7 setup cant continue as the partition cant be found :P Tried deleting it, formatting it and making again, just can't continue past that section.

Gunna update the bios and try again.

    • Are you using NTFS?
I installed windows server 2008 today off USB no problems.
Anyone know if there is a downside to installing ESXi5?

      • The USB is NTFS yes, used the official USB tool from:

        http://images2.store.microsoft.com/prod/clustera/framework/w…

The official error text was: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition. See the Setup log files for more information."

When using shift+f10 to open cmd prompt and use Diskpart to select disk 0 (the only drive available) and create a partition I get: "Virtual Disk Service error: There is not enough usable space for this operation."

I have no idea what is going on :P I realise this should probably be in a tech related support thread but though someone here might have had a similar issue and resolved it.

Updated the bios with same error and tried installing in IDE and AHCI mode. The filesystem of the internal drive is RAW at the moment which I think is standard if no OS is installed?

        Thanks :)

        • Do this…

Use the command prompt and run diskpart and then type:

list disk (take note of the size of the disks…)
select disk 0 (assuming your HDD is disk 0 from the list disk command before)
clean (note this will clear all partitions from the disk. Be careful)
Reboot and Windows setup should see the disk

        • dude, Disk 0 looks to me in this case like the "X" drive or windows installation virtual disk, at least for Win7 considering the error message… to me seems like your HDD isn't recognised yet or connected properly - try re-checking the cables (SATA ones can be feisty ones at times…have had a few faulty ones) and rebooting + check the HDD is recognised — if not in POST, but in BIOS if necessary. If the HDD's are ok, do a CMOS reset (i.e take the battery out), AND power-drain the pc (i.e disconnect from power and hold down power button for at least 10 secs (some mobos have the green light if power is connected; at least wait till this is gone…maybe a few more secs to make sure) and just try to install with as unmodified BIOS as possible. I've found this has worked for the same issue for mevbefore, and once windows is installed, I can go back into bios and change advanced settings like memoery timings, hdd transfer modes, etc, etc without problems. Hope this helps…

    • Thanks to everyone for the help :)

Couldn't get it too work so ended up opening a spare computer, using it's DVD drive to install the OS.

Since the microserver didn't have a sata power connector I ended up using the spare computer to power the drive with the microserver sitting on top of it with the sata cable running to the mobo, was a funny sight :P

Now I need to order another one :)
