  • Good deal if you're looking Hoka shoes.

Any Brooks Black Friday deals coming up?

    • +1

Nothing much happening on the sale side for Brooks sorry.

      • What about Asics? Been a very long time since there’s been a sale on Asics.

      • I am looking for hoka shoes for pronating foot. Any that you recommend?

        • I have pronating foot. You can buy Arahi or gaviota. I use both and they are great

    • +3

Keep an eye on the Iconic, they have limited sizes and types of Brooks but between their regular sales and the upsized cashback from SB & CR I was able to score a pair of Ghost 14s for about $135 after cashback.

  • Says code invalid

    • What shoe?

      • +1

        Every shoe I've tried so far (Clifton7 & 8, Rincon, Mach 4)

Could be my PC. Will try again soon

        • The code is HOKA40. Its working on our end and orders are comming through. Not sure what the issue is.

        • +1

It says invalid when applied but the discount still applied for me in the cart.

    • After you get the message that says "Invalid Coupon" click on the button below the message that says "Redeem Coupon" and it will take you back to the shopping cart with it successfully applied. Weird website.

  • +41

FYI: The parent company that owns Hoka are the jerks who trademarked the UGG brand everywhere in the world, screwing a bunch of Australian companies in the process.

    https://www.deckers.com/brands

    • +9

Oh interesting. I didn't realise these guys owned Hoka. May avoid from now on

    • +27

Thanks for the heads up. Arsehole of a company. Will avoid purchasing anything from them now.

        • +11

This is like a company trademarking the phrase "g'day mate"… Then suing anybody in Australia that uses that phrase

      • +1

I get the hate towards Hoka but not sure it’s a valid reason to neg the running warehouse. They are just a supplier. It’s like negging rebel sports every time someone posts a deal for them.

It would be like negging coles because they sell youfoodz.

        • I'm surprised how fast Youfoodz recovered from that. Even the media seemed to forgive them quite fast. I wonder if it would have been the worse for them if they had mocked Indigenous, African etc

        • +1

The hate and negativity is aimed at Hoka more then Running Warehouse. But as a supplier, they could show some backbone and boycott any Hoka products.

          • +1

@The General: Running Warehouse are in for $$$.

Economics 101: If people stopped buying Hooka, they would stop stocking it, and hopefully bring some "ethical" brands.

    • +4

      damn…wish I didn't know that

    • +9

good to know, i was just thinking of getting some. not anymore.

    • Thanks. Great to support smart businesses

      • -1

All those clowns who upvoted this comment HOKA is the smart business

    • +1

      Thanks mate.

    • Heard about UGG brand, but did not know that Hoka is from those deckheads, no Hoka for me.

      • -5

        Sacrificing Hoka.

        You are an amazing person

        • +1

          Amazing persons are getting downvoted

          • @Sidor: Sorry if i hurt your feelings

    • +4

      thUGGs

  • $120 for some Rincon 3- you won't get better bang for buck right there.

It's a shame, I pretty much have all the sale versions i want in my rotation and would get some carbons but alas….great deal for those who need something.

  • +2

The GST amount was still calculated based on the original RRP for some reason which makes the discount less than 40%

    • You are right, for a $199.95 pair of shoes:

      199.95 - 19.995 = 179.955
      179.955 * 0.6 = 107.973
      118.7703 after GST

When I apply the 40% off code I get a total of $119.97 in my cart

      • +1

        Your maths is wrong.

        199.95/1.1 = 181.77 pre GST
        181.77 * 0.6 = 109.06
        109.06 * 1.1 = 119.97 after GST

        • +1

          …. Which is the same as 199.95 * 0.6 :)

  • 2 questions for @Tom Gibson :

    • Any deals coming for Altra or Topo Athletic? Would be lovely to get some shoes that are the shape of human feet :)
    • When is the store in Richmond, Victoria expected to open?
    • +4

No deals for Altra and Topo, stock is hard to get for those brands. Richmond shop will open Monday Nov 29th. Largest running shop in Aus!

      • Super exciting times!

  • Ooh, this is tempting. I'm looking for a well cushioned stability runner, coming from Kayano 25 in US11, which always seemed a bit narrow in the forefoot.

Had my eye on the NB vongo 5, but maybe the Arahi is worth a look. Any input on sizing for Hoka compare to Asics?

    • I'm same US 12 in both - I have arahi 5 - decent mild stability shoe but not much life in midsole imho

  • Thanks OP. I got some Clifton 8s. The last pair have been awesome.

  • Which of these would be good for walking on paved surfaces?.. we tend to walk and explore a lot when we travel and it takes a toll on my feet/knees. The Bondi ones look very cushioned.. thought they might be nice for when we can eventually go overseas again.

    • +3

any hoka in that range is going to be well cushioned for lots of walking. Clifton or Rincon are both very light for the amount of cushion which saves your legs carrying around heavy shoes. Lots of people wear hiking shoes thinking that will save them on long walks but they are so heavy!

Just be aware hoka do run a little narrow , generally even narrower than Nike running shoes which are renowned for making narrow running shoes, so if you have wide feet look at the wider sizing.

      • Cheers! Ended up trying some at athletes foot and decided to grab the Bondis

  • Hi Tom,
In your opinion, do any of the Hoka line up match the New Balance 1080 v11 in terms of comfort?

    • The Clifton 8 is very close in comfort to the 1080.

      • Just ordered both the V11 and the clifton 8. Lets see how it goes. Any idea why the maxroad 5 was never imported to the AU warehouse? Thanks.

    • +1

Clifton 8 are really comfortable shoes, my absolute fav.

1080 v11 has half tongue and if you are someone like me with wider feet, this half tongue were it ends that part digs into my upper part of the foot, no amount of shoe less adjusting resolved it for me (1080 v11 was half size bigger than clifton 8 for me and both were wide size shoes). Also to note, I do use lightfeet support insoles, which does add little bit of height to your footbed and does make shoes little snug.

The issue with 1080 v11 was that where tongue is stitched at is bit higher than usual, and this part of the upper and the midfoot with New Balance "N" symbol is not stretchy at all, and it may be an issue with wider feet.

      • 1080 v10 is still my GOAT shoe. The Clifton 6 DESTROYED my arches. The worst blisters ever.
The clifton is far too soft for my liking too, I felt like I had to put extra effort in just to maintain my pace as the shoe is just too squishy.

  • i hear hoka is good for long distance runs - what's a good one that's comparable to asics nimbus? i wear insoles for flat feet, so need a neutral and also good level of cushioning to protect the knees in the long term.

asics are so heavy so i'd love something a little lighter that has all the same bang - if it exists.

    • +8

If your knees are hurting, shoes aren't going to make much of a difference. You're probably overstriding which creates more impact on your knees. Try to increase your cadence (say 180 steps per min) and land your foot vertical to your body alignment.

Saying that, Hoka Clifton's would be what your looking for.

      • +3

        cool re the Clifton's thanks.

i have a bad knee and my patella slides slightly on an angle - not sure if that's a stride issue. they say os good schlaters is a children's growth problem, but the giant AF bumps i have and eternal pain prove otherwise.

    • +1

+1 cliftons… or bondi for a little more cushion.

  • Do hokas run wide in fitting…I need 6e?

    • A bit of reading I just did says they run narrow. So much pressure, low stock in my size. Buy now, suffer later.

  • Thanks OP. Wish there were more wide options. I have clifton 7s, now I have clifton 8s as well.

    • Had Clifton 7s, now have Elevon 2s as well

      • +1

I had a look but no wide sizes available. What's the difference? The cliftons are my first hoka shoe and I'm hooked. So good. Walking on clouds.

        • Super cushioned for casual/recovery runs

          • @funk44: Hopefully they got wide ones next time. Hard to imagine more cushioned than they already are!

  • Clifton 7s for $114 seem pretty good for walking shoes.

    https://www.runningwarehouse.com.au/HOKA_ONE_ONE_Clifton_7/d…

    • +1

      How u get $114? It's $143.97 for me. Cheers

Shame the Speedgoats aren't part of the sale.

    • +4

Not once you apply the 40% discount code!

      • But when you add Gst it is not

        • +1

$170 from Hoka vs $138 from running warehouse.

          Can you math bro?

  • Are these suitable/comfortable for people with flat feet?

    • +1

      Yep, especially for flat feet!

      • Thanks! Any recommendations on their models for this?

        • +1

          Bondi/Arahi/Clifton are the popular ones.

I would suggest u go try all of them in a shop e.g. Athletes foot.

Or u can read some reviews in previous hoka posts.

I am slowly converting all my shoes to hoka.

      • I was under the impression that a minimalist/barefoot running shoe would help strengthen the arch muscles for people with flat feet.

        • +1

Or on the flipside they will exacerbate any problems you have, potentially causing further injury especially if you ignore the warning signs and push on through!
Unfortunately there are different schools of thought and neither are necessarily a one size fits all!

          • @Tj1999: I have gone down the minimalist walking path with vivobarefoot shoes and I freaking LOVE them, but still wear a variety of shoes for running (~40km/week). Next move is to some more naturally shaped shoes like Altra and Topo Athletic, because normal shoe shapes are bending my big toes in ever so slowly.

      • Really. what type of shoes are they??

      • Not really. Why would you say "especially for flat feet"?

    • +1

I found the cliftons didn't work well with my custom orthotics, but not sure if you're not using orthotics.

      • Yeah, I have custom orthotics.

      • I removed my orthotics in my hoka

  • Can anyone say how the Hoka Clifton 8 size compares to Brooks Adrenaline sizing? I've seen above the Hokas run narrow…

    • +1

I got the same size in both and Hoka is definitely a little more narrow, but I didn't feel I needed a bigger size.

      • I went the wide. hopefully now they're not too wide.

  • which specific Hoka ones are best for plantar fascitis? Have Brooks Adrenaline 16 but heard the Arenaline 20 onwards changed to neutral or something? Any in the One One range?

    • +3

No shoe will fix your plantar fasciitis. Lots of of very long and deep calf stretching, along with regular spiky ball massage under your foot will help.

    • +3

Bondi 7s and regular stretching have borderline fixed my fasciitis. Also wearing crocs slip ons (not those standard croc) in the house on tiles has made a huge difference.

The Bondis might be ugly but your life will be so much better. I have hardly any pain anymore. Get them.

  • Hoka ATR 6 are they covered by 40 % off?

  • +1

Why had I never heard of this brand until 2 months ago, now it's everywhere.

Do they have a competitor to the 4E - New Balance 860s.?

    • Pretty reputable but mainly make limited variety of running shoes. Not mainstream like nike/new balance which make much more everyday/fashion shoes too

    • +1

Their schtick is high stack heights and big rocker geometries. The fact that they look like dad shoes has also got the hipster crowd wearing them casually on top of the usual old folks. Good marketing on their part, shame about their parent company.

      • Good enough for Bill Clinton to wear casually back in 2019 : https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2019/07/23/22/16413778-7278209-…

      • Yeah it feels like yet another instagram / hype / zeitgeist thing, suddenly everyone has to have a pair.

I love my NB 860s - best shoes I've ever owned as a flat footed wide guy. Dying for price cuts so I can buy a spare pair.

        • +1

I mean, podiatrists and orthopaedrics are raving about Hoka. Every time I looked at a podiatrist / ortho online [both UK and American], they all recommended Hoka when recovering from various foot injuries.

The podiatrist I had for my ligament injury also specifically mentioned Hoka.

Now I have it, I can't not have it, it's just better. A shame about the parent company that owns Hoka [and ugg], but I'm not going to compromise on my feet over shady trademarking practices of the parent company WRT UGG.
