When you sign into your Quest 2 with the same Facebook account you will receive the $50 credit which can be used to purchase games and apps on the Oculus store.

You will need to remain friends with the refer on Facebook for ~90 so that you both receive the credit. The referral bonus is eligible for all new headsets regardless of where you purchased them if you activate the offer before signing into the headset for the first time.

I should note you don't need a USB cable to use Oculus Link - you can use Air Link over your Wifi.
        https://support.oculus.com/airlink/

      • You can do it wireless now.

Airlink works really well providing you have decent WIFI at your house.

        • Airlink is a good option. I haven't had any luck with it though and have good wifi (and fixed Ethernet from PC to router), but that could be the wife hogging the wifi.

  • Is this the newest model?

    • +1

      Yes it is

What are the chances of this going on sale for Black Friday in combination with this $100 promotional credit? Promo ends at the end of the 29th so will last through Black Friday

    • +1

Then I'll buy another one :)

edit: just realised we can only claim $100 once :(

    • +4

I would wait and see. Even no sale on this product, there might be shopback/cashrewards offer to stack with.

      • +1

        Yeah, hoping for this too

    • They might sell out before then though.

  • Was there a referral link somewhere B4?

Wondering if it's worth holding off till Boxing Day…

    • And I believe many will be holding until the sign in with real FB account.

    • +1

I doubt it, the days are long gone when Boxing Day sales offered much that was worthwhile; the best sales are always in November these days.

    • +2

Black Friday is better than Boxing Day :-)
Boxing day in the past years have been underwhelming.

  • Does this stack with the 7% cashback for Amazon?

I'm still going to wait until the next Half Life VR game gets released before getting another VR set. Looking forward to the post on OzB in 2033.

Now this is a good deal, not like the previous "deal" where I got negged into oblivion for saying it was just the RRP- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/646641

  • I nearly bought one of these yesterday. Still sitting in my cart.
Now I'll get it with the credit

    • +1

What urges people buy something one week before Black Friday? I don't get it.

      • Because this is the official Black Friday deal?

        • +1

The guy above almost bought it before this deal started. At least this is how I understood his "Now I'll get it with the credit".

  • +1

Will using Amazon gc to purchase eligible for this offer?

    • Good question, does anyone know?
I got using gift cards, an extra 10% off.

      • +1

Bought with card + GC ( $139.95 from GC, rest from card). Received an email from amazon that the benefit has been applied to the account. So all good it seems 🤩

        • I ordered one but haven't receive any email from amazon about the $100 credit. Did you receive the email after the product has been shipped as mine hasn't been shipped yet.

          • @ZyGj: I received the "benefit" email at 11.45am, and the "order dispatched" email at 11.49am.

            • @hades: Thanks for letting me know! Did u select express delivery instead of standard delivery? My order still hasn't been shipped yet although it was placed on 21 Nov 2am :(

          • @ZyGj: Did you get an email? I have the email but don’t see credits in my Amazon account

            • @b0nd: No, I ordered on 21 Nov 2am, but still no email or anything from Amazon. I should also mention that the order hasn't been shipped yet (standard delivery).

        • Some members are mentioning in the thread that they are getting the $47 referral credit, does this stack or do you have to buy it from the oculus website to get the $47 referral credit?

        • Does the $100 credit needs to be spent in one transaction or can be over many transaction?

  • Already got the PSVR which gives me a bit of motion sickness.
Is this one better in terms of resolution and frequency?
    Less motion sickness?

    • Yes

    • +2

I think the PSVR supports 120Hz though not sure if all the games run at that. The Quest now supports up to the same but still depends on the game. 72Hz is the standard, though many support 90Hz now and some support 120Hz.

As for the resolution the Quest is much better and doesn't have any screen door effect which I've heard some say helps them avoid motion sickness.

      • +1

Thanks, not sure what screen door effect is, but I will give it a go.
        Hopefully less motion sickness.

        • +2

Just as it sounds, being able to see the gap between pixels as if you're looking through a screen door :)

  • My 11 year old has asked for one of these for Christmas and I know nothing about them. Having a read the comments not sure that’s it’s a good idea. She wants to use it to play Roblox but she doesn’t have a Facebook account (and won’t be getting once anytime soon). Don’t want to waste the money if she won’t be able to use them.

    • There isn't a native Quest port of Roblox so you'd need to play via PCVR. I imagine Roblox isn't too demanding of hardware requirements but you'll still need a VR ready PC.

    • +3

There has been a fairly high age recommendation for VR (I think due to potential unknown impact on eye development). Just googled and they say 13+. Might be worth holding out until they decouple from facebook/meta.

      • +2

It's not just eye development, it's also brain development as VR does tend to mess with spacial awareness.

    • +1

Device still currently needs Facebook account to activate (like yours for example) but anybody can use it for pcvr (like roblox) using their own accounts. Hopefully FB account requirements is removed sooner but my secondary account made just for this has been doing ok for 2 years now without issues.

    • I would be pretty hesitant about buying for an 11 year old. I've experienced some very odd after effects myself especially when I first started using it, some disassociation from my physical body even hours after use, a feeling like your limbs are not quite where you expect them to be, slightly offset etc. I think I'm becoming more used to it now though, a bit like getting your sea legs. It's not even just about the eyes, it's a whole brain thing and spacial awareness issue, especially for kids who haven't yet formed the full pathways in the brain for this.

I'd also be careful with driving after using it at least for the first few weeks, it feels like I've had a couple of drinks. People report bumping in to things more in the real world as they had this feeling they could just walk straight through them even with the headset removed.

It may also make you question the real world a little as well, a lingering feeling that it's all a simulation.

In saying that I do allow my kids to use it for very short sessions. Usually around 10 minutes. It's also the best bit of tech I have bought in a very long time, similar to when you get your first PC or console as a kid, magical almost.

      • Didn't even think about VR sickness. I spent about 30 seconds on a VR rollercoaster and still feel sick thinking about rollercoasters in general. And that was 2 years ago.

        • +1

The trick with rollcoaster VR games is to lean and move your body/head in the direction that the simulation is sending you.

      • +2

For those downvoting my comment above, keep in mind that this is just my personal experience although also backed up by others. Naturally not everyone experiences the same.

    • +1

I think the general recommendation currently is 13+ due to possible disruptions to coordination and brain development.
I only found out because of this video, and haven't looked into it myself much further, but I'd say definitely look into it yourself before you buy if you have concerns.

    • Why can't she use your account?

  • +1

Do you have to pay extra for software to be able to sideload and connect the PCVR Steam?

    • +2

No but you will need to set up a developer account (not too much required) and PCVR can be done via built in Air Link for free or USB cable.

I had already purchased Virtual Desktop before Air Link became available though and still use it as I find it easier and more reliable.

      • It's easy to set up a dev account but make sure you read the details about non disclosure agreement.

        • Someone downvoted this for whatever reason so perhaps I should clarify. The creation of a developer account means you are also bound to a non disclosure agreement about certain aspects of the program that may be made available to you. I'm simply warning people that there may be legal implications if you break this agreement.

    • +1

No, you can use Oculus Link or Airlink to play PCVR Steam games

  • Bye bye my dollars and the reality :P

  • Followed the link to Amazon. Can’t see anywhere on the listing about the free credit deal. How do you access the deal?

    • +1

There should be a banner at the top of the listing.

  • +7

Anyone know if the Amazon credit can be chipped away at, or whether it has to be used in one go?

    • It's goes as a balance that can be used in multiple transactions.

  • Been looking at this for quite a while, thinking of pulling the trigger now. Do people find the 128gb sufficient or would it be better to get the 256gb?

    • +1

128gb should be fine for most unless you download lots of media. Even if you have lots of games, installing them is easy/quick enough. I bought 256gb (mine) and 64gb (everyone else) and 64gb was fine. Of course 256gb is still good in case you want to futureproof. And for PCVR you don't even install games on the Quest itself.

    • +1

128gb holds a lot of games as the majority are small. Obviously 256gb is better if you have a cash tree, but otherwise it is probably not worth the extra dollars.

In saying that, there are some very big games coming out, Medal of honour is meant to be around 41gb.

  • Damn! I bought one on Friday from Amazon. Does anyone know if there is any hope they would honour this deal if I contacted support?

    • you can return and buy again
thats what they tell me usually

      • Yes. Can cancel if not yet shipped, or return if shipped. In the reason just choose found cheaper option.

        • Do they ever contact you and offer to match the price rather than continuing with the return?

          • @stillsinking: If coming from same seller maybe?
I initially ordered mine from Amazon US and it was taking some time so I cancelled and reordered from Amazon AU when it became available.no issues though I still got charged and money returned in a couple of days.

    • Let me know if you have any success and I might try myself.

  • -3

Pretty expensive for a porn device 🤣

    • +1

Some of us pay for our porn

  • So I have an existing Oculas Rift account (not a quest account) and it is not linked to my Facebook.

Am I eligible for the referral bonus?

Can I access my Rift games on quest?

I have a 1080ti - if I connect the quest to my PC can I run steam games?

    • Yes, probably not unless it's crossbuy, Yes

    • You can access all Rift games via PCVR but not their native Quest version unless it's a crossbuy game.

  • The biggest thing holding me back is that I wear glasses.

I know there are some solutions. (Prescription oculus lenses, spacers for glasses).

I’m wondering why can’t the oculus itself make the adjustment.

    • Are you near or far-sighted? If near then you might not need the glasses. I suggest you try without glasses if you have access to one, or can return it saying you can't see video properly/not comfortable with glasses. But I like your suggestion though not sure how that can be implemented in the device. Have vision issues myself but fine without glasses.

    • "I’m wondering why can’t the oculus itself make the adjustment."

They tried to cut the costs of this device as much as possible. Hence design decisions such as the cheap strap, and the 3 preset IPD positions.

    • Ive got the Reloptix inserts and they are great. Magnetic so I can take them out for other family members

  • Can someone tell me if a 1650ti would hold up via air link/pc link and be decent enough for games to be playable? Would want to be able to play semi demanding games like blade and sorcery.

    • +2

Not sure if 1650ti will play it well, maybe? But there's a native Quest 2 version though that doesn't need your pc. I tend to play native quest games due to convenience even if their visual quality might be diminished compared to pcvr.

  • Can anyone recommend a good cable to plug into PC?

    • Above guys recommend Air Link which is free

    • +3

If you don't want to or can't use airlink which is free I'd recommend KIWI design, they do a bunch of quest accessories and their cable is good and long and has a signal amplifier built in. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08M65G48F/

  • What Quest 2 accessories can we use that $100 Amazon credit for?

    • +2

Checkout anything by AMVR or KIWI design, they make the best accessories imo, personally I love the hand grips, having the controllers strapped to your hand is so much better so you don't have to be holding them always.

      • I know about those brands, but their items are sold by their own resellers, not by Amazon AU, so not eligible to be claimed for that $100 credit.

        • Ah my bad, I thought fulfilled by Amazon was okay, didn't read that bit sorry.

Guess the only things could get accessory wise would be the elite strap or elite strap with battery (which are a lot more comfortable than the basic strap) and the official link cable (but I don't recommend that to anyone, massively over priced).

    • +1

Also just note the $100 credit can be used for everything shipped and sold by Amazon, not just for Quest 2 accessories

      • Correct, but I rather spend the credit on Quest 2 accessories because like Narull has mentioned above, those 3rd party accessories (controller straps, head straps, link cable etc.) are definitely worth buying

      • Does it have to be spent in one transaction?

        • +3

No, it's just like normal Amazon promotional credit. As many txns as you want until it drains.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it's always been like this for me

  • +1

My prediction is, come Black Friday it will be $50 cheaper, which will also include the $100 Amazon credit.

    • I think it will just be $50 cheaper but no $100 Amazon credit.
