Don't forget the referral bonus.
For anyone purchasing this you will want to enable the referral credit before activating the device.

You can do this by contacting an existing Oculus Quest Owner and requesting a referral link from them. You can then follow that link and activate the offer on your Facebook account.

When you sign into your Quest 2 with the same Facebook account you will receive the $50 credit which can be used to purchase games and apps on the Oculus store.

You will need to remain friends with the refer on Facebook for ~90 so that you both receive the credit. The referral bonus is eligible for all new headsets regardless of where you purchased them if you activate the offer before signing into the headset for the first time.

You can message anybody listing in the Oculus referral system to start the process.

          • @CereaL: Still think it's courteous to give people a few hours to get back to you rather than just firing a bunch off at once. Most of the time there's not really a rush on this as you have up until you activate to do it and most people aren't looking at their emails all the time.

But yeah 48hrs is a bit long. I think a few hours is fair enough to give people a chance to reply.

          • @CereaL: The flipside is I've received about 6 requests over the last few days from different people, none of them responded after I sent replies within an hour or two mostly. Not sure if people are put off by the facebook friending aspect or they just have messaged a bunch of people and others replied quicker.

  • questions:
    1. if i buy this and get the $50 referral, what happen if i used that credit to buy some games and later return the unit to amazon?
    2. yes someone mentioned a way to signup without facebook account but can i create brand new fb account with real name but zero info just for this oculus purposes ? - i have already FB account with slightly different surname. it is against FB law to have 2 accounts?

    • The games get locked to your account, so even if you sell the headset or return it you still own the games.

Multiple accounts is a contested argument. Some people have done it fine, others have had their account banned. Guess it's a roll of the dice on that one. They're removing the need for Facebook accounts next year, so maybe they're not banning much anymore.

  • Stack with this deal for another $40 off if you have a targeted Amex and didn't already order like me:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/665518

  • How quickly does one get the $100 promo credit?
Understand that there's supposed to be an email notification, but do we only receive the credit when the device has been shipped out?

    • +2

I got mine right as it shipped

      • Cool, I thought that was the case.
        Thanks for the info.

  • Got it delivered yesterday. Not activated it yet. Activating it as soon as someone refer me. Can someone please PM me?

Paid game recommendation: Walkabout Mini Golf. It is not flashy in looks but the physics are pretty great and it is just a chill game to play with friends and chat away. They have released all the free course and have started their DLC with plans for many more courses to come. They will also be updating to give us avatars instead of floating heads in the future update.

Beta testing / demo game recommendation: Grapple Tournament. This is an amazing Unreal Tournament style FPS, the biggest downside right now is that the servers are off most of the time except free weekends until they finalise the game and release it fully. Still a lot of fun playing offline against bots, just don't forget to change the difficulty, and for when they do have their free multiplayer weekends. This is an instant buy from my when it comes out.

    • +1

Yeah walkabout is fantastic, I actually tried playing with a physical putter and it greatly adds to the experience if you can get the controller in the right position and grab both controller and putter handle at the same time. There are some 3d printable mounts you can buy to add a handle but the full putter gives actual correct weight so Im looking into ways to mount the controller/putter more reliably.

  • buy now or hold until black friday hmmmm….

    • +2

I did now cause even if they do an even better deal (dont think they will) its not like you couldnt talk to support and they wouldnt fix it up… amazon have great support =)

      • im thinking maybe shopback or cashrewards might do something special, maybe wishful thinking.

        • buying stuffs at amazon with amazon giftcards is eligible for cashback (shopback/cashrewards), correct?

      • exta $25 through shopback tonight :)

        • +1

Unfortunately “Orders with Amazon Promotional Credits applied will not be eligible for Cashback.”
Edit: Seems like it may mean if you purchase using promotional credits, if so woo extra $25 cashback should work :)

What is a starter pack for the Quest 2 we need to get?
I heard people say get Elite Strap but that seems expensive for $79. Is it really needed? Any cheaper alternatives?
Also, I don't have any router but have Wi-Fi built-in my PC - can this be used for Air Link or I need a cable? Which cable then? I have both normal USB 3.0 and Type-C in my PC.

    • +2

I wouldn't spend that much on an elite strap, plus they are notorious for breaking.
Jump back to here and have a read through, might find some of the info useful.

  • I've heard it's like a lens lottery. How do i know if i get bad lenses?

    • Probably only by physically comparing to another device. Also keep in mind that the headset is designed with averages in mind, so only 3 IPD settings for pupil distance, if you are half way between 2 settings like me then this can be a bit of a negative but still works ok. There is a trick to slide the lenses part way between two settings, which may help. Also, if you have an un/diagnosed astigmatism this may also cause some issues, this may be able to be corrected by addon on lenses.

  • hi guys,

if i buy from amazon, i will get $100 credit to spend in future on amazon au.

if i use the referral system, myself s add nd referral will receive $45 each?

can i use this and referral system with out facebook account?

    thanks

    • +2

To activate an use oculus, you gotta use your Facebook account. For referral to work you need to be friends with the person for them to send you the referral link. When you activate, both of you will get the $47 credit

      • thanks.

sorry I dont have a facebook account and not interested in creating one.

        any alternative?

        • Think there is no option besides Facebook. Oculus is created by Facebook?

        • +2

          dont be Lazy, Desi.
just make empty account just for this. after you get referal wait 32 days then unfriend that person.
read this thread from page one you will find something that will make you happy

  • For anyone wondering if paying with an Amazon gc still gets you the $100 credit, it does. There is 3% off gc with Suncorp - not much of a saving but it’s better than the full amount plus the 0.5% visa fee.

    • +1

There is also an Amazon AMEX spend $100 get $20 (redeemable twice). As well as spend $75 get $5 amazon credit. Stackable.

    • Unfortunately “Orders with Amazon Promotional Credits applied will not be eligible for Cashback.”
Edit: Seems like it may mean if you purchase using promotional credits, if so woo extra $25 cashback should work :)

  • Does anybody know if the promotional credit needs to be used all in one go?

I've received it in my account, and I only want to buy something small now but don't want to forfeit the rest of my credit.

    • No, you can chew it away bit by bit.

  • +1

Received mine yesterday. Mind well and truly blown AND believe it or not I'm still waiting on the glasses protector so had to play without my glasses in 'old man blurry vision' and it was STILL amazing.

Currently looking at getting these grips as Kiwi Design have a 30% sale. These are US prices but even when converting to AU they're pretty well priced.

US $18.99 -> AU ~$27 (the same product on Amazon AU is $35)

(I used xe.com for currency conversion so actual amount will probably be a bit higher)

    • Was your device missing the glasses spacer? Or did you order some additional lens protectors?

    • as you just had it for few hours i am curious as why you straight away think that grip is a must to have? also have you check the shipping fee to australia ?

      also check this local shop
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/665867

      • I don't have grips but they would make it quicker to secure your hands rather than the included string loop. Also a bit of added protection for the controller (still no protection on the halo/ring section though, other grips have halo protection)

Looking at picking this up tonight during the cashback even though initially planned to hold out for Black Friday

Just to clarify how to maximise discounts:

Amex - to use both $20 do I buy an Amazon gift card directly from Amazon for $100 then use that and pay the balance with amex for the 2x$20?

    Shopback $25 cashback tonight

Oculus referral - do I need to get a referral before purchasing or just when signing up first time?

So all up $40 amex + $25 shopback + $100 Amazon — $165 back. Plus then $47 oculus store credit?

Thinking of using the $100 Amazon credit to get a USB C cable capable of oculus link as will run mainly from PC for racing games and maybe Alyx - any suggestions on a cheap one

    • Sounds like a great plan

    • +1

You use the referral when activating the headset. You get the referral through your Facebook account , then must use the same Facebook account to set up the new unit.

      • how exactly the activating process involving the referral code (is it a code? link ? or ?), where / at what stage do we put the referral ?

        • +2

You request a referral link, then connect to the referrer via facebook as a friend and they are then able to send out the referral link via their Oculus account. You must click that link before activating your Oculus Quest for the first time and it should then keep the connection on record so that when you do eventually activate the headset it will automatically apply the credit. Once you are facebook friends with the referrer they can send you the link via messenger. Convoluted I know, but it is what it is.

    • Amex - to use both $20 do I buy an Amazon gift card directly from Amazon for $100 then use that and pay the balance with amex for the 2x$20?
If you buy two $100 gift cards from Amazon in two purchases - the amex offer will trigger and give two $20 credits in a few days.

      • +1

or even better, use 2 different amex that have the offer, to buy 4x $100 gc

        • yes, great idea - sadly additional cardholders didnt get access to the offer. So I only got it on my primary.

    • +1

Also dont forget the spend $75+ on amazon gift cards for a $5 promo credit. Can get that at the same time as Amex offer if buying $100 gift cards.

      • but remember dont use that $5 promo credit when buying the oculus or you wont get 25$ cashback

        • +1

I don't think anyone has received the credit yet. T&Cs say 8 days after dispatch.

  • How do I get a referral?
Have the best day you can

  • I am moving quite far from family and friends in just over a week. I am purchasing one for my family and one for myself to play together. My understanding is if I make mine the main admin and then add their headset as the second account we can share some of the games?

    • I had 6 Oculus Go headsets on the same account sharing games, but I'm not sure if it is the same for the Quest.

    • +1

Yes that's correct. If you set up the Quest 2 as your main account (all your purchased the game), then set set up the additional account and log into the additional account. Under the App list (right corner) it will have App sharing in the drop down. From there you can access the family shared games.

I know someone else has posted a list of family sharing games but here's a website that will tell you which games are part of the family sharing and what isn't.

      https://casandchary.com/oculus-quest-app-sharing-list/

      • Thank you. Appreciate your replies and links

  • Stack with $25 off shopback?

    • Yes, it would.

For those still sitting on the fence - I also have a PSVR and I must say the tracking of the controllers on Quest 2 is rock solid compared to the PS Move controllers. The Quest 2 also has a very nice screen resolution.

    • PSVR sometimes goes straight to making me feel sick. Sometimes I can play for ages. Hoping this feels better for me.

  • Anybody having trouble installing and running the PC Oculus app? I keep getting the error message when it is checking Oculus app status, it can't reach Oculus service. I have tried to remove my previous Oculus Rift drivers, switching off background VPN and antivirus apps, but still no success :(

    • no issues with the PC Oculus app. Just tested it.
Check if you're AV is blocking the oculus service from accessing

      • I am running Kaspersky antivirus. But I have tried installing and running this Oculus app on my other older PC (also running Kaspersky antivirus), and it launches fine in this older PC. With my current PC, the app is stuck on the "Checking the status of Oculus app" for a couple of minutes, then errors out with "Can't reach the Oculus service".

        • if you manually run OVRServer_x64.exe in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime.
What error message does it spit out?

also you're not trying to access it via RDP right?
otherwise it'll give you that error as well

          • @iamtezr: Lots of info on the screen, those with error that I could see are:

            • @edfoo: sorry unable to help as i've never experienced this before but reading through the oculus forum some others were having similar issue due to the Oculus software and incompatible usb drivers causing this issue.
              https://forums.oculusvr.com/t5/Oculus-Rift-S-and-Rift/Oculus…

Others have suggested trying to source and older version of the PC client. Someone did post a possible fix here https://pastebin.com/ZCgyygE7

Otherwise i'm out of ideas and you'll probably have to contact oculus support for further assistant.

              • @iamtezr: Thanks for your help. Have to keep troubleshooting

    • Do you have a pihole or adguard home or other adblocking in place.

      • i have pihole running and was able to access the PC Oculus app.
Check if ovrserver.exe isn't being blocked.
I know some AV blocks that causing issue with Airlink from connecting.

Oh right… do you have a AMD card?
I remember a while back the AMD drivers was killing the oculus app and people couldn't access it.
Probably same thing is happening again.

        • +1

Pihole etc is going to come down to what lists you have installed - many specifically block stuff that is part of social media tracking and data collection.

          • @BaryGusey: yes you're right. The ad list that i was using from steveblack blocked only portion of social media and probably none of the data collection therefore it probably worked when i had enabled it for testing.
So yeah, best to temporarily disable pihole and test to see if that's the culprit.

      • No pihole or adguard.

Wonder anyone can give me a hand on referral. I sent 2 request links so far but haven’t got reply - one sent last night and one this morning. Also don’t want to spam too many people .. getting the oculus in next couple of hrs and would like to get the link as soon as I can.. anyone have good suggestions? Thanks!

    • PM'd you

    • Thanks all. It seems the post works much better than that link.. I have already paired with someone now so if I haven’t replied to you, sorry about that. Again, thanks all!

  • Does anyone have any recommendations/links for comfortable accessories (face cover, controller grips, case) for the Quest 2?

    • +1

I bought this case. I bought one that looked the same earlier in the year for my work and it was decent, so I got the same for myself. It won't fit a solid headstrap, so keep that in mind if you're going to upgrade that part.
      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002629248695.html?spm=a2…

    • For case, depends if you're planning to get a headstrap for your quest or not. If you're using stock then the above case is fine. I had it before upgrading.
If you're getting an elite headstrap then i would recommend getting the oculus case (only case that fits it). Works great but the zip are bad, I feel like it'll break but had it since launch and still holding out.

If you're using stock maybe a back pad like this for extra comfort.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/AMVR-Padding-Pressure-Comfortable-…

For grips or cover i use these and can't fault them at all. Doesn't block sensors and works perfectly fine.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Esimen-Controller-Protective-Acces…

For facial i do recommend the VRCover full facial interface. Was great when Oculus were giving these out instead of the included Silicone cover.
Silicone cover are great for those sweaty session but the VRCover are really soft like Bose Earpads on your face.
      https://vrcover.com/item/fitness-facial-interface-and-foam-s…

This page shows a replacement headband with built-in battery and associated case, etc. These got good reviews on MRTV.

    • +1

Bobo VR are a hit and miss. Some people love them, others just don't find them comfortable and annoyed with the antennas.
The new one M2 Pro that comes with the magnetic portable charger are great.
Ive got the M2 not the pro and find them to be comfortable. Just have to set it up correctly.
Otherwise it's one of the highly regarded aftermarket headstrap apart from the Vive DAS headstrap mod which will cost you about ~$200 if you can find stock.

For VR Accessories and especially headstraps review. I recommend watching VRCauldron. He does a lot of reviews so you can get an idea of what you might or might not like or want to purchase.
      https://www.youtube.com/c/VRCauldron

  • Would like to use my $100 credit for a Case - any one got a link for good one please ?

    • Are you planning to get an aftermarket head strap?
As some of them won't fit in some cases.

    • +2

The box that comes with it is not too bad as a case for mine! 😂

      • +1

        same 😭😂😂😂

        • +1

          🍻😂

Also didn't realise the head strap on top is actually velcro and adjustable lol. Once that was sorted it's ok but might need a better more comfy one down the track. Other than that no complaints really.

      • +2

haha yeah i've seen many that used the supplied box as a carry case.

How about add some straps to it?

        • Haha noice! 😂
