Qualifying Items does not include any Excluded Items. When used in these terms and conditions,

1) “Eligible Order” refers to a purchase on Amazon.com.au of any items that are “sold by Amazon AU” and excludes any Excluded Items; and

2) “Excluded Items” refers to any products on Amazon.com.au sold by third party sellers (even if fulfilled by Amazon AU or sold by Amazon US or Amazon UK), digital purchases such as e-books, subscriptions such as Prime video and audible, gift cards and postage or delivery rates.

To redeem the Offer, customers must purchase a Qualifying Item during the Promotion Period. Once that Qualifying Item has shipped, the promotional credit will be applied to the customer’s Amazon.com.au account and can be used as a discount on the customer’s next Eligible Order via the Amazon AU app or Amazon.com.au.

The Offer can only be redeemed once per customer. Offer is valid until the earlier of 11:59 PM (AEDT) on 29 November 2021 or while stocks last. The promotional credit will expire at 11:59 PM (AEDT) on 31 March 2022.

Don't forget the referral bonus.
For anyone purchasing this you will want to enable the referral credit before activating the device.

You can do this by contacting an existing Oculus Quest Owner and requesting a referral link from them. You can then follow that link and activate the offer on your Facebook account.

When you sign into your Quest 2 with the same Facebook account you will receive the $50 credit which can be used to purchase games and apps on the Oculus store.

You will need to remain friends with the refer on Facebook for ~90 so that you both receive the credit. The referral bonus is eligible for all new headsets regardless of where you purchased them if you activate the offer before signing into the headset for the first time.

You can message anybody listing in the Oculus referral system to start the process.

    • Add something over $100 sold and shipped by Amazon AU to cart and you should see the $100 automatically applied during checkout. That would obviously mean you have the $100 credit.

    Apologies! Didn't realise the rules

what are stuffs can i can do for FREE with this? (just buy the headset)
    i found:
    youtube, netflix, plex

anything else? any decent free game?

    • Not really - there's Google Earth ;) - although there is the occasional freebie through Steam or what have you.

The reason I want it now is it's wireless and you can play some PC games such as Alien: Isolation, GTA V or Resident Evil 2 (2019) in VR although often these are paid mods.

      • my laptop is not ready yet, just 1050ti gpu..

    • rec room is a good bit of fun, might be dead these days though

    • +2

Get a developer account activated and then you can sideload lots of free stuff from https://sidequestvr.com/

Even without a developer account you can also use sidequest to access the library of applab games, note that some are still paid but plenty of freebies/betas/prerelease stuff https://sidequestvr.com/apps/applab/0/rating

Not sure if it was announced already, apologies if so:

Oculus have their Black Friday special now which is $80 store credit. Combined with $47 store credit from referral (assuming you can get it), the "discount" works out better than Amazon in pure dollar figures: $127.

But it's very hard to compare value directly given that we aren't playing with money here and the various restrictions such as where you can use the pretend money.

So I guess Amazon works out better if you plan on not buying any Oculus products but Oculus may work out better for you if you planned on buying Oculus games.

    • +2

You can use the referral credit when buying from Amazon - Oculus Support confirmed here https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/pbxdd9/referra…

      • +2

you mean you can ^get^ the referral credit when buying from Amazon, ie total $147 here

        • yeah i didn't word that right, thanks.

      • Ah cheers!

    • +2

The thing I checked before buying via Amazon for the $100 promo was if there were items where Amazon AU was the Seller, that we actually wanted. However, with Christmas coming up there were loads so it was an easy decision.

Was just having another look at the Oculus $80 offer. I personally hadn't properly read the small print before, so thought I'd point out that this offer is only valid if you buy the Quest 2 AND Elite strap with battery. (I initially thought it was either, not both)

"Valid with the purchase of any Oculus Quest 2 device and Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery. Both products must be purchased in the same transaction to qualify."

Maybe it was just me that can't read properly!! :)

    • +1

The $47 Oculus credit you should be able to get via a referral regardless. You're basically weighing up $100 Amazon credit vs $80 Oculus credit so a no brainer really. You can also use discounted Amazon GCs to save a few more bucks as well.

Have had 4 people ask me for a referral from this thread, replied to all within a few hours but no takers so far. Either they are asking multiple people or the facebook friending thing is putting everyone off.

        • +1

Most likely hitting up multiple people. I did the same by mistake but did let people know that I've already used a referral tho.

If anyone is thinking the Occulus Link cable - definitely try out the Airlink (wireless connectivity) first - im lucky in that my AC Wifi 6 router is in the same room as my computer - so so far (about 10 hours of play of halflife vr) it has been perfect - I feel like I remember one or two small glitches but they are part of the VR experience!. I will likely get the link cable down the line to see how much better it looks.

    • Thanks for the advise. My PC is nowhere near my router so I suspect I may have to go down the cable route, but will test first.

I guess though, unless I'm totally misunderstanding, I could simply go stand nearer to the router right? As long as I don't need access to my PC for keyboard/mouse/etc. So I'm thinking I can run Half Life Alyx on my PC, then go to the front room which is by the router and play from there. (and wake my family up by screaming)

      • +1

You absolutely could - its all worth testing, but basically the idea is you want as little latency (length of cable/ wifi having to go through walls and co) between your computer > router > headset, So if your computer is say in another room connected by Ethernet that should be fine - but if it's connected to wifi - you can imagine the signal has to go from the headset (your movements)> pc then to modem > headset (visuals back).

https://www.roadtovr.com/enable-oculus-air-link-quest-2-guid… its quite easy to setup! Well worth a try for free :D

You may be tempted to go for the cheaper cables - but a friend of mine did and it works (but has alot of issues)

        Cheers

        • +1

Much appreciated. Yeah my PC is on ethernet so we shall see.

I'm keen to try things like Elite Dangerous and Assetto Corsa, both of which I'd be using a joystick and wheel plugged into the PC, so I'd probably need a link cable for that. But hey, worth a try first for sure!

I guess the other potential option is a WiFi extender.

Fun/nerdy times ahead. Although to be honest, the fun/nerdy times have always been part of my life!

      • +1

I'm looking at using the $100 credit to buy both of these to give 7m(!?) link cable.

        cable
        extender

        • +1

Neither of those two cables are sold by Amazon AU, so you cannot use that $100 credit.

        • just use air link if you need that much…?

    • Im quite a bit away from my router, (couple rooms away) works fine… sometimes it gets slightly chunky on airlink. but its no big deal.I think you'll be fine if your PC is cabled and your headset is wifi 5ghz. (wifi six may even make the 2 on wifi a non event)

  • I want to buy two Oculus Quest 2's (one for each of the kids for Christmas) so by the sounds of it, you can only get one $100 credit per transaction. So is my best bet to open a separate amazon account to make the second unit headset ? Then how long until you get the $100 credit back ? I assume it just sits in your Amazon account until you are ready to make another purchase ?

    • +1

Yes, a few days (for me was around 2 or 3) or after they dispatch it will hit your account

  • VR veterans, I have an original Rift which I rarely use because it's cumbersome and while impressive, the pixels generally leave me wanting to play / watch things on my regular monitor.

I'm thinking this is worth picking up for the wireless convenience, and from what I've read, it's visually a step up from the original Rift. Can anyone offer their experience/thoughts on whether it's worth the price to upgrade? Also should I pick this up, or the Rift S if I have the touch controllers already?

    • +2

I had the CV1 as well, and Quest 2 is a nice improvement! Only thing I feel is the comfort is not as nice as CV1 which in my opinion is the most comfortable headset Oculus has made so far (light and well balanced). But the features and resolution of Quest 2 are far better. Being able to simply pick it up and put it down any time even mid game (and without wires / sensor setup) changes how you use it, it becomes just another mobile device, like a phone or iPad. I can't imagine not having one anymore.

Just to add, I wouldn't get a Rift S as it's a discontinued product and doubt it's getting any updates anymore.

Don't forget to do the referral if you do plan on getting one.

  • +3

Just a reminder to those putting in for referrals, give people an hour or so to get back to you. They may not be near a computer / device to see the referral request straight away. I for one always get back to people within an hour or 2.

    • +1

Yes and I must put my hand up and apologise. I contacted 4-5 people in quick succession rather than giving people time to reply. (I did at least go with the person that replied first though)

      • +2

Yeah I think everyone should have the opportunity to get referrals and reply to them. Only thing I'm not sure is if the referral algorithm is affected by the referee receiving a referral request and then their account gets put to the end of the queue so to speak when the next referral request is generated. Because then the referee is at a disadvantage especially if they do actually respond to the referral but get no message back (because like you say the referrer has spammed multiple people at once). But I totally think it's fair if you haven't heard back within a couple hours to generate another request.

        • Do you know how to get notifications for the referral messages? I've been unable to get a referral yet because the two times deals have come up it has been weekends and I've not checked OzB, get online many hours later to see I've missed out on a referral or two. Would be awesome to get an email for it, then I'd act on it instantly as it would. come up on may phone.

          • +1

@WeiKaiLe: I'm not entirely sure as I've always got email notifications when I get a message so I just keep an eye on my emails now and then. Maybe check these two settings areas and make sure email notifications are turned on for the things you need:

My Account / Settings / Edit / Messaging
My Account / Settings / Subscriptions

Also I guess it's worth checking your email address is correct in:

My Account / Settings / Edit / Account

            • @pixxelpusher: @pixxelpusher - Thank you! I tried looking for it on mobile and couldn't find it but thanks to your reply stating it was working for you I checked it on desktop and easily found the setting. Hopefully I won't miss out next time on a referral.

              • @WeiKaiLe: Ah yes I should have said I was looking at it on a desktop browser. Good you found it and hopefully all working now!

      • +1

Apology accepted Draycen… I've had another 3 people request a referral from me but none of them have taken up the offer. :(

  • If anyone wants to send me a referral link, it would be appreciated. Mine just got delivered and I’ve had no reply from anyone after submitting a referral request yesterday morning.

    • Send another one or two. The referral needs to be applied prior to activating device.

    • In case no-one else has already sent you one I have just PM'd you.

  • I hope this isn't against the rules (potentially hijacking a deal thread?) in which case just say and I'll remove my post.

But, I'm a glasses wearer (short-sighted like a mole) and from what I've read I'll need either glasses protectors or custom lenses. Custom lenses are out as I can't justify that.

Is anyone able to recommend lens protectors to stop glasses scratching the Oculus lenses? I've found a few on Amazon but thought it was worth asking the question.

    • +1
    • +1

I saw on Amazon some lenses with values stepped in whole numbers (-4.0, -5.0 etc) so while may not match your prescription exactly are probably close enough.
From memory they were around the $60 mark but shipped from Amazon global so guess not going to be valid to use for the $100 promo credit. I'm told they increase the experience a lot over wearing glasses.

(If you have the time to hit up the previous posts and flick through the comments, you'll find pretty much every question here has already been answered and then some that you haven't thought of yet :D There was a bit of discussion about lenses in one of them, someone 3d printed the rings and got some cheap "close enough" lenses for like $10 as a DIY alternative)

      • OK great, I'll check that post out. Cheers.

  • +2

I just got my Quest2 - very happy.

So I am a complete noob when it comes to using some of the Ozbargain functionality.

How do I add myself to the Oculus referral list?
Do I just edit the Referral Link - and then Select the
"Allow referee to contact me via Private Message" box?

    thanks

    • I just ordered one, will like to know that too.

  • Damn, just bought this a month ago. Might pester Amazon to see if I can get the credit….

    • mmmm my original order is return eligible too

  • +1

Been on the fence for a long, long time. Finally pulled the trigger!

  • Be careful when using the extra credit on Subscribe & Save items. You don't get the extra 10% off if you use the credit from this deal.

    • Which items are those, sorry?

      • Subscribe & Save items.

    • +2

Yes you do but it's just that the 10% S&S discount and Amazon promo credit does not show up seperately, hence the confusion.

      • Are you sure about that? I just bought a item that was $1.42 and $1.28 S&S and it looks like I got charged the $1.42 when using the promotion credit.

        Order Summary
        Item(s) Subtotal:$1.29
        Delivery:$0.00
        Total Before GST:$1.29
        GST:$0.13
        Total:$1.42
        Promotion(s) Applied:-$1.42

        • +2

Yes, I'm sure. Amazon combines the 10% S&S discount and the promo credit and considers it one big combined discount. I've tested it out so many times.

  • Just got my dispatch notice and email about my $100 credit.

    • When did you order? 27 hours ago for me, and still not shipped. Although apparently it's going to arrive within the next 27 hours.

      • 11:05pm last night QLD time.

      • Ordered Sun 1:20pm. Shipped Tuesday 1:20am. Due to arrive by Tuesday 8pm. (Perth times)

    • Me too. Ordered yesterday AM and it shipped yesterday and is being delivered today. Have received my $100 promotion confirmation email from Amazon too.

      Bring. It. On!

  • do I have to use the $100 in one transaction or can I use it like a gift card?

    • +1

Can use pretty much like a GC except only on items sold and shipped by Amazon AU and it expires on March 31st.

      • +1

        thanks

        • No worries! 🍻

  • Okay, just bought it. who can be my referral peeps? need a hand here

    • Raises hand.

    FYI
this was the cable i bought for mine, works well, massive long as well.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08RNC2N9V

    • correct me if im wrong but the cable isn't needed with that link software ?

i literally just bought it … arrives Thursday … so yeah … just in time before the weekend :D

      • you can use airlink, but it drains the batteries in a reasonable time, where as the cable charges it while it uses it.

haivng now used both, i like airlink, - but if you aim to have decent sessions id highly recommend getting a cable, specially when they are as cheap as the above.

the oculus is also fantastic for watching movies, also handy to have a cable for when you stream these, again for the battery.

        • what's the battery life like anyway??

no one seems to have that question in this forum yet ..

          • @CereaL: about 3 hours - but it really depends on what your doing.

        • +2

I'd try a 20000mah powerbank in my pocket. I imagine having the freedom to move without a tethered cable would be handy.

        • i dont get it. why we need a cable? it is not like we are walking around with this, right? i saw on youtube we just have to nominate a small square playing area.

          • +1

@CyberMurning: As well as being a standalone headset, the Quest 2 can also be used to play PC VR games via cable or wirelessly.

            • @Gravy: sorry noob here but i meant why we need long cable, not like we are actually walking around while in VR, right? i mean for example there is a game that need us to move forward, we dont actually walk forward, correct?

              • @CyberMurning: It's better to physically turn around in VR so having a slightly longer cable means you can have some slack and can step over it when you turn around.

A short cable tends to pull on you and feels uncomfortable, it also tends to wrap around you when you turn around.

Also, despite what you see on youtube, you do tend to physically "drift" around a bit and subconsciously move even if you think you're standing in one spot. I've come out of VR and found myself standing in a completely different spot to where I started.

I'd say 3m minimum, but depends where your computer is placed.

    • You mentioned it charges it while in use? This feels like a stupid question but does that mean you could technically use the Quest 2 for as long as you liked? (Whilst you had it plugged in using this link cable).

      • Don't think there is a cable (not even the expensive Oculus/Meta official Link cable with fibre-optic wire) can supply enough electricity to power the Quest 2 indefinitely, however it can prolong the play time more than the 2.5 hours you get from the headset battery.

        • That's interesting, I wonder if there is an adapter that can add an external power supply in so that enough power can be supplied?

Check this thread, the official cable is meant to supply 3amps. https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/efrca1/usb_c_s…

        • +1

I've run it for 8-10 hours at a time without going flat while plugged in. Can't start from dead flat though, you'd need 10 minutes of charge before it will sustain on the charger.
Definitely need spare batteries on hand for the controllers though.

May also depend on the game being played I guess.

    • From the description this has to be wrong "Our cables are 1.7 inches thick, which is more flexible and lighter, and some cables are 3 inches thick"

Curious to know, is it much thinner than other USB cables? The one I use is about 4mm thick.

  • +4

Received it this arvo and tried out Eleven table tennis and The thrill of the fight (can purchase both with the referral credit) and got to say pretty impressed.

Super easy to set up and get going unlike with the PSVR which has been just sitting there gathering dust for years. Table tennis especially was very realistic and good fun. Highly recommend well worth it at this price. Cheers OP!

    • +1

Glad to hear you like it. I will open mine tomorrow. Looks like you had a blast.

      • +2

Only got to try out for a couple of hours but surprised how seamless everything was. Worked straight out of the box. I can see this taking off hugely next few years. Time to load up on FB shares! 😂

Btw good luck with your exam tomorrow champ. All the best!

    • +1

Be sure to enable 120hz support for Table Tennis, it makes it even better. I think the 120hz first needs to be enabled in experimental settings for the Quest in general, then enable it in game. You may need to adjust detail settings in the game to get rock solid 120hz, I think that's what I needed to do.

      • Ah good to know cheers bud. I think I turned it on in the Quest settings but didn't check game settings. It's pretty insane how realistic it is.

        • +1

Yeah, it's certainly a game that gets a lot of wows whenever I show mates. The GUI looks like it was made by interns though but is getting an update soon to match the quality of the rest of the game. See https://uploadvr.com/eleven-table-tennis-ui-redesign/

          • @Gravy: Awesome as long as the gameplay remains solid I'm all good! 😄

      • Just wondering what settings you have selected champ. I set 120hz and maxed out rest and it made things worse lol. Went back to default! 😄

        • +1

If I remember correctly you need to set it for each location and make adjustments to lower the graphics quality a bit, there is a frame rate counter that will show you if it is getting 120hz where you adjust the graphics settings. Just play with settings until it hits a solid 120hz.

  • Hi, very new to this, but how do I use the referral system that is shared at the top of the post?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/oculus.com

I've put in a request, but unsure as to how to proceed.

Any help or info is greatly appreciated.

    • read from page one someone already explained

    • +2

Flick a couple of msgs off… I sent 6 msgs got nothing then the next 3 I sent, I got a response from each.. felt bad but I did the right thing and msgd responses 2 and 3 back thanking them for their time but someone else got in first.

      • +2

Probably best to give people a few hours to get back as a courtesy before sending another one off. There's no rush in doing the referral, as long as it's done before you activate you're all set.

        • I still haven't got responses to my first ones which were over 48hrs ago…
