      • Credit promo ends 29 November 2021 (“Promotion Period”), so I think it will include the credit unless it runs out earlier.

  • Does it work with War Thunder?

    • It does if you link it to your PC with a cable or airlink/virtual desktop.

    • +9

      back to your basement.

    • +2

      Where did this come from?
      Wrong forum mate?

      • Right forum as a lot of members are reading this thread. I was scrolling down the page to find more information about the deal. BTW, I couldn't fully understand what drazenm trying to say, although it does remind me of someone who complains everytime govenment spent money on things like building a sport stadium or money spent on fireworks and believe the money should have been spent on the homeless. Also agree with Gruhunter that drazenm should seriously get some help.

    • +1

      Get help.

      Seriously.

  • Stupid question.

Just bought the Legion 7 from eBay deal with the 3080.

Presumably that would be enough to run say Assetto Corsa in VR through this? Would only use the VR or racing games realistically.

Any better VR headset or worth jumping now?

    Would I need any accessories?

    • +1

Yes, I say anything above 1660Ti can

    • +1

I've used a few headsets and while I think the Index is the best for fov the Quest wins over all for it's cost and quality/ease of use.

Assetto Corsa is amazing in VR with this, of course you have to use airlink/virtual desktop or a cable to use your PCs power, the only downside of it is I seriously think that game is better with an actual wheel, but that's upto you, if you enjoy it in non VR you will love it in VR.

As for accessories, checkout anything made by AMVR or KIWI design, the only one I'd say everyone should get are the grips, having the controllers strapped to your hands is way nicer so you don't always have to be holding them.

      • Thanks for the info Narull. Which grips did you get out of interest?

        • +2

I originally had the AMVR ones (got the quest when it first came out), but recently changed to the new KIWI design ones, both are great I just sent the AMVR ones to a friend and he uses them.

The convenience of the KIWI design ones having the battery compartment is handy. The AMVR ones you have to take the grip off every time to change the battery in the controllers, that being said you only do it once every few months, they last ages, I just wanted to see what they were like plus had a friend who needed grips so didn't mind.

Both are worth it imo just whether you wanna save $10 for missing that slight convenience.

          • @Narull: Great, thanks for the info. It's these you're talking about I assume?

            https://www.kiwidesign.shop/products/q1-pro-2-pro-version-kn…

          • +1

@Narull: Yeh they are a good accessories to have. Just had a look at the new Kiwi ones.. does look convenient with the battery door though I like the elastic straps of the AMVR and with the white ones on sale @ $22.39 (black $23.99) not sure if it's enough to to sway me.

            • @bamzero: Cheers. Out of interest have you tried their head strap? I've literally never used a Quest 2 before, so am partly wary of immediately replacing the standard strap with something else, but I've read so many things saying it sucks.

              • +1

@Draycen: The standard headstrap isn't actually that bad so long as you adjust the top strap properly to help take the weight. That said I have replaced mine, if you get from Aliexpress they are fairly cheap and they are a little more comfortable.

I use the GOMRVR on mine, the one with the extra foam at the bottom though honestly don't think it makes that much difference over their original one (which is a bit cheaper too, you can see in the same listing). Looks like they have a new one with a cupped head support. (looking closer at some review photos, seems it's just the original design with the cushion removed, and the cup hastily slapped on to it)

Missus has the BOBOVR M2. Personally I preferred the comfort of the GOMRVR but she has no complaints about it, plus the curved head support base has room for when her hair is tied up. I see they have another version with a different cushion design, I found the original one pressed on my head in a way that was a little uncomfortable but maybe head shape has a lot to do with it. New cushion looks more comfortable though.

On a side note, that little face cushion fan looks interesting, wonder if it would help in any way. Sure can get sweaty though don't see it doing much for that.

              • +1

@Draycen: The AMVR ones with the elastic are nice because it's easier to put on (and they are cheaper) so both good really, it's just if you mind having to take them off to change batteries, they do fit VERY tight, so it is a bit of force needed to take them off. That's what actually made me decide to go with the KIWI ones because I was scared one day when taking them off to change batteries I'd break the controller (but I have a talent for breaking things so may not apply).

I've tried the official headset and honestly I didn't like it, not for the comfort factor it was better then the original strap (which as bamzero said isn't as bad as people make out if you know how to use it right), the issue I had with the official strap is if I'm sitting or laying down to watch something and I put my head back there is a good 5cm buffer from the official 'elite' strap, so your head can't go all the way back which is annoying as hell.

Personally I ended up going a frankenquest but while it's the best option imo (Basically a vive deluxe audio strap attached via 3d printed clips) it's insanely expensive, as much as the quest itself, I was lucky enough that a friend gifted me one as a present (and sent it from the US as they aren't sold in Aus anymore) but I'm in VR a lot so bad example there.

Something that I did also use before I went frankenquest was the AMVR battery attachment I was really impressed how much comfort this added to the normal strap as it has a big soft rubber pad to stop you feeling it added on and the counter weight from a battery plus the extra play time was great, honestly I woulda just kept it if I hadn't received my frankenquest (but I still use the battery attachment even with it) and that also depends if you have a battery or even want too have that much playtime.

I'll bow out to bamzero's knowledge of other third party head straps but I'd say give the basic one a go first and just make sure you adjust the middle top strap so it's holding the weight of the quest, that's what many do wrong.

                • @Narull: Thanks for the detailed reply! Great community here folks. (I already knew that as have been using OZB for years, but it's still worth calling it out!) :)

                • +1

                  @Narull:

if I'm sitting or laying down to watch something

Downside to the 3rd party straps too, the adjustment knob on the back pretty much rules out resting your head back comfortably.

Also reminds me, worth mentioning that wearing over the ear headphones is not really doable with the 3rd party straps either. The BOBOVR is supposed to be better for it but I still didn't have any luck with my headphones.

I find it easiest getting the AMVR grips off by just gently wiggling till they let go rather than trying to pull them straight off. Luckily is only every 6 months or so in my case anyway.

                  • +1

@bamzero: You can try resting the back of your head against a thick soft pillow.

      • Thanks mate. Have a wheel set up which I haven't used in a few years so this may get me back into it!

  • +1

Is it possible to watch YouTube or Netflix? I don’t play much games

    • +1

Yep both have apps you can use to watch things with, friend of mine doesn't use hers for games at all just watching movies in bed.

    • +1

It's also easy (and free) to watch your own content with your friends (if they have headsets as well), via BigScreen VR

  • I've tried out some older wmr stuff, how does this compare? I'm assuming i can use steam vr with it?

Are these okay with glasses? I found wmr stuff make me nauseous after a while due to the screendoor effect and the fact that everything is very slightly out of focus with glasses.

    Very tempted on this one.

    • if your glasses are narrow enough you can wear them under and use the glasses spacer which pushes the headset out a few mm. Otherwise you can buy 3rd party drop ins. I bought the Reloptix lenses and are very impressed with them and they are cheaper than some other options and magnetic so you can drop them in when you are playing but remove when others in household are playing.

      • Thanks, that's pretty great actually. Good to know they exist.

  • +1

    Thanks op. I jumped ;)

    Merry Xmas to me :p

    • did you remember to use a referral to get bonus credits for games/app purchase

      • Ahhhh nope. Dang

Can I still do. If someone walks me thru it I’m keen

Sounds like someone needs to send me a referral who owns an oculus

      • I thought you could do it before activation?

        • Yeah I’m confused :/

          • +3

@britta: Referral should be applied prior to activation of device not when you purchase.

So you're fine just send a few requests through here (where it says random referral links) and someone should get back to you.

              @dins: On it!!!

            • @dins: @dins how do I get onto that referral link system?

@siegey: Click on the link below

                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/oculus.com

Then in the grey box titled REFERRAL LINKS click on "Referral: random (119)". I will allow you to PM a random referral. Just ask them kindly to provide you a referral ;-)

If you are trying to add yourself to the mix in the grey box click edit and tick the box "Allow referees to contact me via Private Message"

                • @britta: Thanks @britta! I meant how to become one of the random referrals hehe

                  • +1

@siegey: Yeah saw that after, updated my first comment ;-)

          • +2

@britta: You can still do the referral now. It will apply when you activate the Quest (you do that when it arrives).

Thanks been looking to get this but was waiting for Black Friday, now just can use the credit on Black friday for the other stuff that's hopefully on sale Cheers op.

    • +2

According to here the $100 cashback is the black Friday deal.

      • Ah, good find!

  • Are these ok even if you don't have a PC?

    • Yes they are mainly for standalone use from what I can gather. Already have the PSVR but hardly use it because it's such a nuisance to set it all up and dealing with all the cables and move controllers and what not. So want to test this out for the convenience factor.

    • +1

yep the native games are standalone. It is only the PCVR games that obviously require a PC, some software on the PC such as SteamVR and either cabled or a Decent Wifi setup close to where you are playing from. Half Life Allyx is the only thing I have played quite a bit of via the PC

  • Is there anything special with the oculus link cable? Looking around it just seems to be fancy USB C to USB C cable.
Considering getting this to try out MSFS 2020 in VR via cable as suggestion say the link is better than desktop wifi

    • +2

I think the official Link cable is using the more expensive fibre-optic wires, not copper wires in those cheaper 3rd party cables.

    • +3

As edfoo said the official link cable uses fibre so it is lighter, but I tried it and ended up returning it because it's barely noticeable, don't waste ya money on it mate just get a good normal cable.

  • can you use this for to watch netflix - serious question

    • +1

Yes there is a netflix VR app for it. I havent tried it but its not in HD apparently which is the biggest complaint against the Netflix app

      • +1

The quality of Netflix on the quest is disappointing but watchable. Amazon prime is better. Unsure about Disney+. But you can watch your own movies in hd or even 3d and it's generally a good experience.

        • Can you watch Blu-rays/3D Blu-rays you own or do they need to be digital versions or something.

          • +1

@dins: I can think of several ways tou can try to make that happen:
            1. If you can play the discs on your pc then you can use your pc to play them to your headset via pcvr using virtual desktop, airlink or usb-c cable.
            2. If you can rip the videos, then you can play them directly through your network using bigscreen, skybox or pigasus. You can even sideload other players like kodi if you are so inclined.
            3. If you don't want to rip them, you can try if you have a shared bluray drive in your network. Very doubtful it will work though.
I'm sure there are others out there with better ideas.

            • +1

@Kyx: Cheers bud much appreciated! 🍻

  • Does this stack with the $80 as from the occulus website?

    • +2

      I guess not

Offer valid October 26 , 2021 (10:00 a.m. PT) – December 26, 2021 (9:59 a.m. PT). Valid with the purchase of any Oculus Quest 2 device and Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery #at www.oculus.com only#, while supplies last. Both products must be purchased in the same transaction to qualify. Not valid on prior orders or purchases and non-transferable. Not valid for cash or cash equivalent. Limit one (1) discount per transaction. Savings automatically applied at checkout. Software sold separately. Offer may be cancelled or modified at any time without notice. Void where prohibited.

  • My purchase of an Oculus Quest 1 must be the only time I've ever been an early adopter. I won't make that mistake again.

    • +1

You shouldn't feel bad as you can still use it and it's still a good device. As long as you enjoyed it 🙂 I was planning to get one before but they were OOS. Even if the Quest 3 is made available soon, I've thoroughly enjoyed my Q2 and would happily buy a Q3 again if mine breaks or becomes obsolete.

    • Electronic are a depreciating asset.

      Why was it a mistake?

  • Is there a database/chart showing minimum cpu gpu ram to play pcvr?

    Mine is laptop:
    i5-9300H
    GTX 1050Ti
    8gb ram

  • I am interested in these but have yet to try VR. Are there any stores that demo this sort of stuff? Specifically I am based in Canberra.

    • +2

Just buy it and return it if it's not for you, great returns with Amazon

      • Good point.

      • If non prime member also can return?

        • @ChiMot as a non prime member, I don't know if you're eligible for free returns…. Best thing to do so you're 100% is speak with customer service and see what they have to say…

Alternatively get prime for the free first month… Take advantage of the other specials happening, and then cancel.. if you have any issues, least you'll be covered :)

  • +1

Stating the obvious probably but I have a PSVR and this is attractive as per previous comments on wires and set up. I have to factor in game purchase of course and possible repurchase of games such as Beat Sabre. How are price games on this compared to PSVR? From what I can see more expensive? Do they do deals etc like PS? Better games perhaps so that offsets cost.

  • +3

Received the $100 Amazon credit and can confirm it doesn't have to be used in one hit. So you can chip away at it until March 31st on items sold and shipped by Amazon AU.

    • +1

yup, I bought so many things today with it.

    • Did you get the $100 credit after the Quest 2 has been shipped? I am asking because I ordered on 21st Nov 2am but I am yet to receive the credit and my order still hasn't been shipped as well.

      • Yes after shipping.

        • Thanks. One last question: did you have express delivery for it as my standard delivery seems to be not shipped yet.

          • @ZyGj: Do you have Prime?

If not maybe the Prime orders are getting prioritised me thinks.

  • Is there a decent amount of free content or will you quickly find you have to shell out? I'm not particularly interested in gaming.

Following from, that will using it with a Mac (M1 MacBook Pro) have any limitations (I'd imagine it excludes Windows games unless running them in Parallels Desktop or the like)?

    • No unfortunately macs are not supported by Oculus. If you had an older intel Mac you could run Windows via boot camp on it, but with M1 macs that’s not possible. I guess once you set it up you might be able to stream media via the network from your Mac.

      • It’d probably work in parallels though on the M1.

  • Bought one! Used the Suncorp 3% discount so bought a $500 gift card for $485.
    So in my mind that's 479 - 3% - $100 = $364.63 (but I have a feeling my calculation might be slightly off)

Don't miss the $100 promo credit small print everyone. It can only be used for items SOLD by Amazon AU. (I confirmed with them directly via chat to be sure)

Already have my referral waiting to go (thanks @chillipaste!)

    • +1

Do you see credits in your account? And can we split $100 into multiple purchases?

      • I'm 99% sure it's only after the Quest 2 has been shipped, which it hasn't so far. I'll report back!
Someone else confirmed they'd got the $100 and that it could be split between purchases though. (@dinns and @ismellpennies)

        • +1

Mine is shipped, delivery possibly this afternoon.

        • Just to confirm, I received the $100 promotion confirmation email from Amazon about 1 hour after shipping confirmation.

      • Yes you can chip away at it don't need to use all of it in one go.

  • Anyone ordered and got an email? If yes, then do you see the credits in your account? I have the email but no credits

And was wondering if it needs to be used in one go or can split $100 in multiple orders

    • I pulled the trigger sunday. the charge is pending, so i'm assuming once the charge clears I will get an email. Fingers crossed
