Anyone have any recommendations on cases and screen protectors ?

  • or buy the 128gb model for only $100 more

  • Does this phone support wifi calling please..i have very bad reception at my place and need a phone with this…

  • Thank you OP. Good find. After some thought as to whether I should get a 5G, I decided and went ahead and bought :)

The problem with 5G for me is that none of the MNVOs offer 5G on their prepaid services (which is what I primarily use).

      So no 5G on:
      Boost prepaid
      Woolies prepaid
      Amaysim prepaid
      Kogan prepaid

And for the network / non-reseller phone companies, it's on some expensive "Flex" prepaid services from Optus (not the bog-standard $30 for a month prepaid packs), and some expensive prepaid services from Telstra (not the bog-standard $30 Telstra prepaid packs). The only company that has been sensible is Vodafone, who offer 5G on all their prepaid services (and I do use their prepaid sometimes), but their 5G coverage I have heard is very poor.

(all the above is to the best of my knowledge, pls correct me if it has changed since I last checked)

Bottom line : unless you're paying more for phone services that you should (using postpaid not prepaid), and if you want decent coverage, then there are no suitable 5G prepaid services currently available. Unless and until phone companies fix this, it's pointless paying a single cent extra for a 5G phone, and every bit of phone company marketing about 5G can be completely ignored. At the moment 5G for normal prepaid users is basically just pure vapourware.

The logical progression will be for Vodafone to improve 5G coverage and offer it to resellers, and for Optus to add it to their standard prepaid offering plus make it attractive for all their MNVOs to offer it on prepaid. That will probably happen in 2022 and 2023.

And based on what happened with 4G, Telstra will drag the chain, adding it to their standard prepaid in 2022 / 2023, before finally being forced by market forces to open it up to their MNVOs in 2024/2025. If you think that's a ridiculously slow timeline, I would simply point out this is exactly what happened with Telstra 4G, where it took 4 or 5 years from the technology being rolled out, to being opened up to Telstra network MNVOs.

Bottom line : by 2024/2025, 5G is likely to be universally available. Until then, it's likely to depend on which phone company you're using, which makes it far less useful. Which just goes to show that it's the phone companies delaying 5G technology, not consumers, and not handset manufacturers. So personally I will wait until 2024 before wanting a 5G handset (and by then it will just be a completely standard feature, you probably won't be able to get a phone without it).

Had to give you an upvote for thinking aloud so detailed ( and writing it down for us to read also ).

P.S. I agree with your outlook, and as I am often lucky to get signal at all or a weak one, not hanging out

        for 5G at all.

      • Many thanks, nickj for your observations and advice. Your comments are excellent – factual, informative, logical and well-reasoned. Glad I went ahead with this rather than hang out for a 5G phone. I have added my upvote to ozhunter68’s. (Was out all day yesterday.)

Tempted, brought then cancelled. Asked myself do I really need a new phone. I do need spare phone but not so urgently. Do anyone know if there’s custom ROM for this phone?

  • Does anyone know if these 'UK' units come with UK or AU power plug?

    cheers

    • +1

Should be UK but will come with AU adaptor.

  • Mines been shipped already by bangood

  • Camera is really bad for this, any recommend for best camera phone with bargain similar price?

  • What's the estimated shipping date for these? Anyone can confirm?

    • +1

The zon is estimating 15 Dec for me

      • Has now been dispatched and estimated for 13th Dec.

    • Mine is still saying expected delivery of 17th December (The same as day of purchase) but hasn't shipped yet.

      • Now shipped, expected delivery date 18/12

        • Received last night 9/12. Pretty happy so far. Always had Xiaomi phones until I switched to the Oppo A52 (couldn't see the screen at all outside and the screen wasn't very responsive to touch)

    • I got the 6gb version of this back 8th Nov from this same seller and was supposed to be here on the 25th. Never turned up. Just asked for a refund.

Just ordered another from banggood with 1 week delivery and a bit cheaper and comes from the Aus warehouse. Fingers crossed

    • A week for me, sent about 3 days after ordering via DHL. (Should have been a day earlier but DHL delayed delivery by a day)

Amazon ETA was a week later, DHL initial ETA was few days later but still 4 days earlier than Amazon.

I think Amazon is being cautious with its ETAs over Christmas period, pretty much everything I've ordered recently has arrived well before they said it would.

  • I have my cashback from CashRewards rejected, because apparently Amazon has classified it under the "Office Products" category, which has 0% cashback.
    Anybody else has this problem?

  • Just shipped from UK today.

  • For me the estimated delivery date was December 14, but I received the phone today.

  • still waiting for mine…
could anyone confirm if a pair of ear phones is included in the package? and did it come with Android 11 or 10?

    cheers

    • +1

      Android 11, but no earphones.

      • Many thanks!.
does it also have a AU power socket adapter included? if you use it on a power outlet on the wall, will it hold the charger comfortably without it falling off?

        cheers

        • +1

          No, comes with UK.

        • +1

Doesn't include an adaptor. Being UK plug the adaptors are pretty chunky and charger is pretty lightweight so I don't think it will have any problem staying in a wall socket but it's going to stick out quite far, and then you have the USB plug coming out of the end as well. I use a UK powerboard that has been changed to an AU plug.

Unfortunately if you want 33W turbo charging you have to use the original charger and cable too (which would be nice if was a bit longer). Even using a different cable with original charger will drop back to fast charge. It will fast charge with QC3.0 but not at 33W (I think it's around 20W). Haven't been able to test any other types of fast chargers.

  • Damn this 1 week wait to unlock the bootloader. No point setting it up yet since it'll just wipe everything when I unlock it.
Those who've received, how are you finding it?

    • +1

I'm loving it. So fast and smooth after the Oppo A52.

  • Mine arrived today, more than a week after "doperst". This is despite the fact that everyone would have ordered on the same day. (It was available only on Black Friday, Nov 26.) Wonder why the difference. ???

  • Can someone please upload a screenshot of this deal from amazon? I bought the F3 (white) deal for $490.88 but they sent me a blue X3 pro instead. Was wondering if they would give back the difference if i kept the phone. Thank you :)
