Google Pixel 6 128GB $999 Outright or Repay with 12/24/36 Months Mobile Plan (Redeem Bonus Fitbit Sense (RRP $449)) @ Telstra

990

Long time lurker, first-time poster, please be gentle ;)

Was looking to replace my Pixel 4 for a few days and saw this deal come up on Instagram yesterday when I wasn't even looking for it. Google being Google

Everyone knows about how solid of a phone the Pixel 6 is by now. Very decent phone with an amazing set of vizor camera arrays, Google's Tensor chip and the not-so-fast and not-so-loved in-display fingerprint. At $999 Pixel 6, it doesn't look much like a deal, and that's when Fitbit Sense comes into play. If you are a Pixel fan and in the market for a decent smartwatch, I'd say this is a pretty good deal for you!

I can't say much for Fitbit Sense, though, since I do not own one. I've heard it is a decent smartwatch for active users, HOWEVER, you are required to subscribe to their service to get the most out of this watch - CMIIW.

  • You can get the Pixel 6 outright from Telstra and get a free Fitbit Sense (RRP $449) or, here's the caveat, pay it on 12/24/36 months plan with an additional mobile plan from $55/month. If your popular JB Hi-Fi Telstra deal has come or is coming to an end this month, then it is the right time to jump into this plan!

  • If you already have an upright mobile plan service with Telstra, you can add this device without adding/getting another phone plan - so that's good news!

  • Another caveat is they require a credit check I think? because I was asked to go into store and bring 100 points of ID as I was trying to get the phone on a plan. I'd assume this is not the case for outright purchase.

Sooo, that's the deal. I hope I have covered all grounds about this deal or at least almost all and I hope my first post is acceptable.

To take part in this promotion, you'll need to purchase the Google Pixel 6 from Telstra between 30th November - 25th December 2021.

You'll also need to submit your claim no later than 25th January 2022.

Please note: Claims are limited to a maximum of 5 per person. Business purchases are not eligible for this offer.

Redeem Fitbit Sense here. Creds to @PurrCharbel

And you can possibly price match with OPTUS for having a $150 off deal as pointed by @doweyy

YMMV, but you should be able to also claim a Price Match after purchasing(telstra.com.au) against the Optus(optus.com.au) store who currently have this listed for $848.16 ($150.48 off RRP) to get a $150 credit onto your Telstra bill from what I understand :)

Cheers!

    • What drains your battery? Does mobile network standby take a lot of your battery?

      • Currently mobile standby is sitting at 30% usage. I've been at home on the wifi all day today.

        • Although that's the last 24hrs, I don't really know how to interpret that

          • @danwylie: Mobile network standby shouldn’t take 30% of your battery

It’s a major issue right now and seems to be the main culprit for the battery life issues

            • @KenDiaMoi: Mobile network drain sits above screen on time when you go to the battery section. That's how bad the battery drain was. Also the battery settings is trash. It shows data for 24hrs and not when the battery was unplugged like other devices.

@danwylie download accuBattery. It shows the battery temperature as well and pixel runs hotter than most other phones.

Surely we should call this phone the Sixel…

    Spywares lol

  • I really really wanted to like this phone but as a few others have mentioned I bought it on launch day and sold my S21, 2 weeks later I bought another S21 and the Pixel 6 is sitting in its box. The big issues was finger print, I'm no idiot, I've owned a lot of phones, built networks, created circuit boards, so when I say it's bad it's really bad for me. Secondly and it blows my mind why but Google refuses to give up on gesture navigation and as such will under no circumstances allow the back and recents buttons on navigation buttons to be swapped, for a large heavy phone dislocating my thumb everytime to press back is a PITA. Lastly something people of smaller hands/phones should consider is even the smaller 6 is still quite large and heavy compared to most other phones.

    • I absolutely hate this Pixel 6 phone, too many bad things about it other than the fingerprint scanner doesn't work most of the time. I just discovered another one coming from a LGV20, that is I can't save a screenshot AFTER its been taken into the "Locked Folder", I tried to save my egiftcards to it after I took a screenshot but no option to allow this to happen, I read online that you have to select "Locked Folder" BEFORE you take the photo, how stupid is that !!!

  • Saw this yesterday as well but dont know if the fitbit sense is actually worth that much…

Also it might just be me but i feel like the 90hz is not a huge upgrade from a normal 60hz screen for the pixel… other phones i have seen a bigger difference but for the pixel it looks pretty much the same to me (note 9 screen vs pixel 6)

Anyone bought this outright? I'm on Aldi mobile and keen to understand if this is available for those that aren't a Telstra customer and are there any fees

    • I am also wondering this.

      • Just tried purchasing without a plan.

It works if you just scroll all the way down, ignore the plan selection and just click Next. However, you are required a Telstra ID so I suppose you need to have a Telstra account?

If you're looking to port in from outside of Telstra service, I believe you can port in to Telstra and get this on the plan

  • Can anyone confirm if the phones are unlocked?

This thread has been soothing for me after buying the oppo find x3 pro today instead of the pixel for the same price (harvey norman voucher). I had a gut feeling the pixel fingerprint was gonna be a real issue and the battery might suck. Threads on the x3 pro are glowing.

Haven't opened the box yet. Was feeling unsure. I'm gonna go crack it now. Thanks OzB :-P

Apparently the Tensor chip is far superior to anything Oppo or Huawei or Samsung have ever done.

I do think the price will crash in a few months, people seem to prefer cheap Chinese phones with supposedly better features.

the amount of fan speech promoting Chinese phones on this forum is simply overwhelming

lol says who? Its slower than iPhone XS in outright performance for heaven sake!

In what way is the Tensor chip superior? It's less powerful, has a weaker GPU & chews up the battery more than Exynos & SD chipsets.

IMO, Chinese phones offer best bang for hardware buck but, always drop the ball when it comes to software.

    • +3

Nope it's not. The phone runs hot, drains battery fast, image processing takes time, simple things like using third party launcher makes the phone animation stutter while going home. Only thing it does is AI, NL and ML processing but then again Google could have done the same with Qualcomm. Tensor might need few more years to catch up to their competitors

      • Tensor dominates with language processing though, it's no wonder that they focused so much on the translation capabilities.

We got a few of these for work phones, and man is the battery life highly average. Far worse than the old S20FE 5G we had. Users are saying they preferred the S20FE. Ouch!

Coming from a Pixel and Pixel 3, the Pixel 6 is by far the worst one.

Like a lot of people are saying, probably not worth getting the Pixel 6. I've been using it for about a month now. My biggest issue is the OLED screen. The colour shifting is so very bad, pretty much seeing rainbow lines on anything with a white background. If you use dark mode, then it won't be as noticeable, I guess.

Fingerprint hasn't been too bad, I'm just used to it being on the back with other Pixel phones. However, the kicker with it is that you need Google approved screen protectors because the fingerprint scanner won't detect with anything else because of the technology behind it.

Haven't seen any battery life issues yet, but I also have charging stations ready at hand while I'm at work/home.

I've heard Pixel 6 Pro is better (in regards to screen, as the quality for that is better and different to the Pixel 6). I'd say do your research on pros and cons first.

    • Coming from a Pixel and Pixel 3, the Pixel 6 is by far the worst one.

It's a shame because I liked the idea of SoC, the performance and efficiency should be unbeatable in theory, just as it was for Apple. But it seems Google have dropped the ball…

Great first post, very descriptive and clear on details. Fantastic deal OP and keep them coming.

  • I got pixel 6 for 999 -500 (JB gift card) , sign 12 month 69 plan (pay 59 after online chat) . As I was with Optus at 55 plan (40 after discount) . So my total cost for 12bmonths + phone is 499+ 59x12 = 1207. If I pay 999 for retail with my current 40 per month , my total cost is 999+40x12= 1479. So I save 272 on the phone during 12 months. So next Balck Friday I will back to optus and they always offer big discount when you port in.

If you do not wish change providers every year, There was another promotion at JB, not sure if it finished. 0 on pixel 6, and 24 months at 69 monthly plan with Telstra. I think you can easily get 10 per month discount by port in from other providers. So 59 x24 =1416 for 24 month . As current cheaper 60 -80 gb Sim card plan will cost you around 40 roller per months. So you basically pay 19x24=456 for pixel 6 .

JB always have similar promotion, you may get better deal olat boxing day

Pixel 6 is good phone, under display fingersracn getting better after the recent update m the battery was not good at first two day ,but get much better after that. I am heavy user, and 8bhave 20-30 left at end of day. The Charing speed is slow, it ok from 0-50, but very slow after that, and 90 -100 will take almost 1 hours.I switch from OnePlus 7(still smooth and like new, 20 W charge much quicker than pixel 30 W, just camera let it down).
Pixel Camera is way better than OnePlus .

Please re write the deal using half the words used.

Set an example by posting a deal? Oh, that’s right; you haven’t posted anything since 2017.

  • Is the Pro battery decent at least or meh as well? Additionally how is the camera on these? I keep seeing mixed messages on that front.

    • I heard it's pretty okay which will last the day with 10-20% left depending on usage. But it's best to not expecting iPhone level battery life. I suspected it's due to Tensor being 1st Gen powering some sort of beast specs Pixel 6 Pro has.

  • $55 a month is adsurd when you can get deals from smaller vendors for less than half that. Kogan, belong, tpg, catch connect etc.

$15 for 18gb. Why pay more?

  • Credit check keeps having an error. Ridiculous that it's needed for an outright phone.

    Guess can't buy it.

    • +1

Have you got any Telstra Plus points? You can order it on the Plus Rewards website for 5000 Points + $984 and there's no credit check from what I understand.

The Plus store is also available for the free bonus.

      • Thanks @doweyy
Unfortunately don't have any points and need the whole amount for tax deductions. I guess we could try calling up Telstra and buying over the phone.
        Cheers!

  • There's also being able to collect 50,000 Telstra Plus points on top of the Fitbit Sense and price match with Optus (currently $100 off).

    • How did you claim the 50,000 points

      • The Telstra offers page at https://plus.telstra.com.au/offers says "Points allocated within 14 days". Still waiting.

        • damn must be targeted, nothing coming up for me!

          • @sleepyowl: No it’s not. I can’t see it on the desktop but it’s there on the mobile. Scroll down the page to the picture of the wifi booster for 70k points and then scroll to the right

            • @soan papdi: Ooooh awesome, thanks dude!

I'm actually really tempted now, still burning I missed out on the Telstra Day $100 off

            • @soan papdi: Hey bud I just spoke to Telstra in person and they informed me the points are only for selected plans, not outright :(

              • @sleepyowl: Scratch that, spoke to the online team who confirmed that it is available for outright? Guess the retail stores have different options

                • @sleepyowl: Is this confirmed? I bought outright and am keen to know if I'm eligible to get the 50,000 points :)

                • @sleepyowl: Thanks, we'll chat and see how it goes. Fingers crossed!

            • @soan papdi: Would you happen to have a screenshot of this special? Thanks.

Just picked up from Tesltra store, unfortunately run into error on the pixel offer page, is it working for anyone else? It says to try again in a few minutes.

    • +1

@reubenb87 I have the same problem - purchased on Saturday and been trying off and on ever since to put in the reward claim but continually getting the message to wait and try again in a few minutes. Has anyone successfully claimed since Saturday?

      • +1

Good that i'm not the only one, I've raised a case in the help yesterday, but haven't received an update yet.

        • +1

I send them an email too - haven't heard anything back either. I will reply back if I do hear something

          • @ShaViva: I've done the email as well, at least then there's a record that have submitted.

      • The form has been fixed, once refreshed you should be able to fill out and do the claim.
