      No $500 trade-in bonus

    • +1

I think as per other comments, you keep the $500 bonus trade in bonus. But they will chase you up for the $$$ discounted from the price of the phone you were ment to send back.

      • +1

I heard that's also not what happens. And you get charged a 60$ admin fee as well as 500$ fee is removed. Someone mentioned it in the thread from reading the T&C.

        • My bad then, I know from previous deals, they would just ask you for the $ subtracted from the phone you were ment to send back.

        • no one has reported being charged the $60 admin fee or $500 bonus for not returning a phone from what i can read

          • @wearabloodymask: I have no idea, but I have heard that they just recoup the agreed trade-in figure via the CC.

            • +1

@gasman70: that is correct. previously i have not returned the phone and after a couple of weeks of generic emails they just charge you the value of the trade in. i wasn't charged the admin fee but others may have.

i doubt samsung would actually be able to recoup the $500 bonus from you

              • @wearabloodymask: There doesn't seem to be any real motive to do so. I mean, the bonus is just another hook really…..why would they want an old phone?

                • @gasman70: It could just be an incentive to recycle your phones and get chips out of them

        • asurion and Samsung are 2 different companies

    • +8

So many people asking this, so many different answers….. but I'm happy to share my experience…

The first round offer where $500 discount offered on S21, I did it all properly and sent in my phone - all good no problems. I did the same for my wife also.

On the second round, I did NOT send in my phone. I received a couple of reminders, then notification that my credit card would be charged the trade in value only. This did happen. They did NOT charge $60 admin fee and did NOT reverse the bonus $500 from Samsung. I repeated this process again and the same thing happened.

For the current promo, assuming T&C's have not changed, I would expect the same. For the record, I have just purchased the Z Flip 3 with a trade in of $470 for my S21. I don't intend on sending it in and happy to have that amount charged to my credit card.

      • Nice. Thanks for the response.

Damn shame the $500 trade-in bonus doesn't seem to be working anymore

        • -1

Damn shame the $500 trade-in bonus doesn't seem to be working anymore

          what do you mean?

          • @jamessong: Is it working again?

            • -1

              @gasman70: It has always worked

              • @jamessong: I, and a few others, couldn't get it working earlier today.

                I'll give it another go.

                • -1

@gasman70: Still not deducting the $500 trade-in bonus…and I am at the CC payment section.

      • I got my Flip 3 last time for about $100 more and my phone is worth 155 which I'm happy to keep around as a backup.

      • when did you successfully not sent the device back, is it recently?
As everyone is saying the T & C have changed, we could see the admin fee and non-return fee mentioned in T n C so there is no date mentioned. if you latest experience is within 4 weeks - its save to assume that its not being followed.

Hi all, just received the email respons from the tradein team:

'Thanks for your query, if you wish to not return your old device you will be charged the full trade-in credit (the amount you got offered for your old device). After this it will no longer be a requirement to return your old device to us. We hope that this information has been helpful.'

SO THAT MEANS NO $60 ADMIN FEE , NO BONUS WILL BE CHARGED
as describe by this @Miyagi said

        • Thank you for your information, this is super helpful - does it mean, in my case, if I did not return my old phone with trade in value of $80, they will only charge back $80?

        • Did you email them? What did you say? Do you have their email I'd? It's to keep a record for future purpose.

          Good outcome

          • +2

@Shad: sure, I had clearly state that from their online policy its not clear state that whether they will charge u the bonus or not, just said ' may '.
and they reply as what I post above.

            [email protected]

that's the email for those who needed.

            • @Grinderman: Hey, thanks mate

            • @Grinderman: Could you share a screenshot of this email by any chance. Just in case for future reference for others who decide to not return their old devices and are charged an admin fee

          • +2

            @Shad: Hi,

Thanks for your query, if you wish to not return your old device you will be charged the full trade-in credit (the amount you got offered for your old device). After this it will no longer be a requirement to return your old device to us. We hope that this information has been helpful.

Unfortunately, we do not have the exact time frame of when you will be charged, this is an automated process, and the charge should occur after 14 days has passed since you were sent your return label. To make the process as easy as possible please keep the funds available in your account.

Any bonus credit/vouchers will remain as it is. You may receive some reminder emails about returning your old device which you can ignore if you’re planning to keep that device. Any bonus credit will remain as it is.

            Regards,

            Samsung trade-up team

            [email protected]

            • @decio60: Hey any chance you could screenshot that email and the email you sent them about it? Would be really useful for future reference for others as well.

      • My concern is if this will damage customer's credit history, since Samsung kept your id.

        • actually I haven't asked about that part, but I think the reason why they kept ur id is just in case they can't even charge the trade-in value, because from the whole email they replied, they seem don't really care if u return or not, just keep emphasize that you need to make sure there are enough fund in ur register card for ur trade-in value and that's all.

'Any bonus credit/vouchers will remain as it is. You may receive some reminder emails about returning your old device which you can ignore if you’re planning to keep that device. Any bonus credit will remain as it is.'

          that is what they mentioned.

          • @Grinderman: Thank you, I just ordererd z filp 3 256gb black, even without using $50 and $100 vouchers, only paid 500+ for a pretty decent phone, time to go back to Android and replace my iphone Xs

      • Can I just say that when you actually were trading the phone, you would be given a page where it gives you 3 scenarios and how much you would need to pay in each of the scenarios.

Let's say the phone value is $140.

The first scenario would say if you don't return the phone. $140
The second scenario would say if the phone is broken. $140
The third scenario would say if the phone has defects and it becomes unacceptable. $140

If you are not returning the phone, clearly it is covered on 1st scenario and the website clearly stated the amount you would need to pay… that is $140.

        Not $140 + $500 + etc etc etc.

So I am confident to say if they won't recoup the bonus from you.

  • EDS code not working. The trade up id is also not working - I have used use it online while generating the same. Any pointers?

    • +1

I had the same. $695 off the phone with the trade-in but no additional $500 trade-in bonus.

      • +1

same, i cant get the $500 additional bonus with my s21 plus 256GB trade-in (valued at $600)

  • so if i use Card A for trade-in app and card B for purchasing the phone, when i don't return the phone, do they charge me on Card A or card B for the value of the phone?

    • They got your ID and address. They can just put it on your credit score + go to debt collectors.

      • +1

i think you will only have issue if they can't charge you back when you don't send your trade-in phone, like you closed your cc etc.
but if you tell tell them ahead that you changed your mind and they credited the amount successfully, then there's no issue on that.

        • Just emailed them. hope they reply ASAP. thanks

    • card A

    • They will charge you the trade-in value but the $60 admin fee plus whatever discounts they give you won't be charged.

So say your phone is worth $100 they will send you a reminder to send phone back or you'll be charged the $100.

Perhaps if you don't need the other phone just send it back. Otherwise if you're happy to get charged $100 then keep the phone.

    • Card A, i believe because that;s linked to trade in app.

  • It gets worse - eds code via chat not working, $50 marketing code not working unless i add something else and the trade up doesnt work either!

  • this thing battery is not good, right?

    • define not good?

      • maybe comparing with s20 range?
i heard the battery is smaller and then plus the screen is bigger/flip

    • +1

Terrible according to reviews. It's only 3300mah.

      • 3300mAH on 6.7" 120hz QHD screen

  • +1

    *Just for clarification:

Are Debit cards no longer accepted?.. to use a debit card will present problems at checkout?

    If so,
They should really bounce the debit card, and no allow you to proceed.

    • I placed today my second order with the same debit card and no issues

  • Is it true if we do not return the phone, they can put the debt money on our credit score?

    • Yes

      • Does it say this in the terms anywhere?

        • Maybe. It's common sense

    • but if they've charged you and you paid for it, why would they give bad credit rating?

      • I mean technically if we do not return the old trade in phone but we got the trade in amount deducted then we owe that much money back so they can put it against the credit score as someone mentioned above.

        • but say if you decided you don't return the phone (z flip 3) and you pay back that $500, i don't believe they can legally put bad credit rating at you.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that if you don't want to pay back that $500 (even if they do), you could always return that ZFlip3 back to Samsung for full refund, so it's like the purchase never happened.

          • @jamessong: Yep basically
            - send back the product; or
            - be prepared to payback the trade in value and possibly - although seems unlikely to date - the bonus amount

If you don't send the product back and they can't deduct the money from the payment method, they will send you a bill. If you leave it long enough/ignore said bill, will eventually go to debt collectors and the outstanding debt if not recovered can make it onto your credit report.

you can try and then tell us

Wasted my whole day trying to place an order. Tried everything. Browser, app, wifi, mobile data, vpn, multiple phones, imei… Trade in service unavailable and in the app trying to buy online payment doesn't get verified.

    • Have you used the IMEI before? I tried with the same IMEI and no matter what I did, changed the IMEI and no issues.

      • Tried 2, neither worked.
I didn't purchase anything with 1st but just did a valuation and let it expire. Today I revaluated.
After that didn't work tried another imei. That didn't either and hadn't used that before.

    • Same situation.
I have not used the IMEI before, but am tempted to try the eSim one on my phone to see if it would actually work. Like i highly doubt it, as the error banner comes up pretty much immediately.

      • Tried eSim. Didn't work either.

        • +1

After I used the 2nd IMEI that wasn't used yet, it worked fine, and it was on the same browsers/page that I had just unsuccessfully tried with the same IMEI. Can't help you beyond that sorry.

          • @steve0123: Turns out the devil was not being able to verify by card. Was able to verify and have a working Trade-ID.
But having spend the whole day, I am having second thoughts sending in a new-ish S21.

            Thanks everyone for the chat.

        • +1

Thanks for the heads up. No point trying it either then.
We do have until the 20th, but would prefer to sort this out well before xmas….

          • @sphinxy: I've got a feeling the problem is on their side. We probably got registered on a server that isn't syncing up with Samsung checkout side.

I tried reusing a used IMEI, got error at checkout.
My mate did the exact same thing 10 minutes before me, all good for him.

            • @aaronaldo: How unsecure the trade-in service is. I randomly started changing digits and for some I got an error "unfortunately your trade offer has expired" and then I did find one where the trade-in value of $250 was applied. I closed the page (and now can't remember what digits I used) but it seems like either my IMEI is ineligible (I bought phones from ebay, maybe some employee stock ?) Or the latest trade in codes are not available for lookup.
              The error message is misleading.

              • +2

@archieduh: Okay….i just tried my eSim and…..IT WORKED?!?! What?!

                • @sphinxy: Congrats. Happy for you.
I don't intend to return my phone anyways, and hoping I still get the bonus. As that is a risky gamble anyways, now trying to console myself thinking that.
Do you intend to trade in a phone? if yes-which one?

                  • +1

@archieduh: Yes, I'll be sending the phone as intended. I dont agree to trade dishonestly :)

Pixel 5. I also got it off ebay second hand. Definitely getting more for it with the bonus credit. I tried the P6 but returned it as it was too big and heavy, but had then already handed the P5 to my wife. I enjoyed that phone so I got a used one off ebay and i was going to wait until next year for the P7, as I do like the pixels.

I'd always wanted to try out the flip as i like the small form factor and I wanted to marvel at the innovation of it.

                    • +1

                      @sphinxy: Great.

I have an S21 and would have gotten this for free.
Although I put in the comment that I didn't intend to send my phone anyways - that was just "the grapes our sour" kinda thing :)
In the morning when I saw the deal I too thought it might be a nice phone to try and getting it for almost free would have been nice.
But now as I can't obtain (still trying as I type this). I think I have a decent phone, and maybe there will be a deal on Fold next year like this for me to try…

  • So I had my iPad trade in code working. Added the phone went to the checkout then decided I wanted the 128gb instead so i removed the item from cart and now the tradein code won't work as its been used.
So I deleted the trade in app and reinstalled it, got a new code but now I get the trade in error that a lot of people have been getting.
Then I decided OK, I'll trade in my phone instead of my iPad but I now also get the same trade in error.

Live chat doesn't seem to pick up at all, not sure if I should give up or not.

    • Make sure you select online when prompted to generate the trade in code

      • I made sure each time

    • It won't work again. Had the same issue

      • Finally spoke to live chat, she just referred me to email the trade team.

        • What’s the email address of the trade-in team?

            • @morphio: I emailed them and they told me to reinstall the app which did nothing. Then they said to email samsung support who told me to email then again. Wtf.

              • @samplegetter: That's terrible :(

I'm forgot to also mention the code for my 2nd device somehow started working after live chat tried to use it. I think she did something as it wasn't working previously. I ended up from wanting the bespoke version to just the 128gb. $139 after trade in is just such a nice dollar amount.

  • Already purchased the phone but I accidentally entered my trade-in ID wrong and was valid which makes me wonder if someone else uses your trade-in ID who gets charged? Seems like a bit of a loophole if someone else can use an active trade-in ID.

    • There's nothing stopping someone from brute forcing a trade ID code. Doesn't seem to block IP from too many incorrect attempts.

    • They can always track the pool trade in ID with your order and once the trade ID used they will notify the owner of that trade ID and if the owner reports, good chances that the order will be cancelled.

  • Finally purchased the phone: $254 including a new cable so I could apply the $50 credit (traded a s20 plus 128gb)

    • how to select the cable? during checkout they give recommendation but only cases and charger. i tried to apply case, but $50 credit doesnt work.
if i apply charger it works but i dont need charger so further saving is better

      • i just selected the accessories and just scrolled through to find the cheapest item - it was a $15 cable

        • ah saw $10 cable but sold out, and at the end i just pick a charger somehow price reduced again to $16 from $20-ish

    • Thanks for the tip. Found a crappy random A20 phone case for $7 and applied the $50 credit voucher.

  • When I key my cc info it won't validate it. I have tried 3 Cc and 1 debit card. Anyone know who to fix this?

    • Clearing cache (or even storage) and try again while not connected to WiFi.

      • Cheers that worked
Now I'm where it says buy now but it's giving me a price of $819 with trade in. When does the $500 get applied

        • $500 bonus discount applied at check out.

  • damn the EDC code doesnt work

  • has anyone experienced after login to shop.samsung.com only see a white blank page?

I've tried Chrome, Edge browser on desktop, clear cache, tried again, still blank page; try mobile browser, the same. nothing, just blank.

can't track the order, can't make new purchase, very frustrating.
