I can't imagine more than 4GB of RAM is going to help when you have to put up with that processor!

The main thing is you'll save Windows having to page out memory, which is always a good thing, and will take a bit of load off the CPU (and ssd). 8gb would be a nice improvement. 12gb if you got a cheap stick.

This laptop only makes sense if spending and extra $300 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/673480) means not putting food on the table or fuel in the car. If you must, don't go out for a few nights and get the better device.

      • Honestly, this laptop makes no sense unless your credit rating is totally screwed. HN have 24 Months Interest Free loans (easy to get, even for welfare recipients) and over 24 months; it would cost an extra $2.89 a week ($6.71 a week all up). I cannot see the IdeaPad being usable for 24 months for anything more than the simplest tasks.

That HP is an awesome deal and will easily be usable for any productivity / video / browsing beyond 24 months. I also know a mate purchased one of these HP recently (i5 11th gen), and HN charged him an extra $60 for another 8gb of ram.

So now we are talking $758 ($7.28 a week) for a 15.6" HP with i5-1135G7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Backlit keyboard. Just looking at HN website there is also this similar specs with a slightly better processor and faster ram for the same price link.

I really hope no one wastes their cash on the ideapad over the HP at that price point

        Edit: 1366 x 768 display on IdeaPad vs 1920 x 1080 on HP. It's a no brainer

You'd be better off buying a refurbished laptop from a few years ago over this. For this cash even a Gen 4 Surface Pro i5 is obtainable and will run much better

A refurbished Dell Latitude 5480 or 7480 (7th/8th Gen Core i5) can be had for less than $400 from eBay and is an absolute better buy than this.

That's a 1366 x 768 display resolution, if you're thinking of buying a laptop for Facebooking / Ozbargaining and watching YouTube that might be acceptable,

but if you intend to use it for productivity please avoid, spend a little extra on a laptop with a FHD display or buy a refurbished Thinkpad or Dell Latitude from eBay.

Athlon! Now there's a blast from the past.

Celeron and Athlon are two things that should have been buried in the past

      • Technically it's zen. Zen2 I think here? It shares zero DNA with the original athlon. It's just naming they've retained for thier budget lines.

  • Benchmark is not that bad. With a RAM upgrade it will be OK.

Similar to a used i3 laptop from a few years back. Too heavy for school though, IMO.

  • My 10+ year old Samsung Ultrabook has better specs than this 😬😬😬

I was gonna sell it for $200 :/

Granted it was 2k new, I paid 1k off Gumtree *cough"
