So maximum of $2,250.00 per flybuys account worth of gift cards.

    • +2

Think it’ll equate to a maximum of $225 Flybuys dollars.

  • -2

So it is like 20% off basically?

    • +17

      More like 10%.

      2000 FlyBuys points = $10.

      • good math. (positive)

      • Close to 9%, you get $110 for $100.

        • +2

You spend $100, and you receive $10 worth flybuys point. Thats 10%. However, if you paid $100 and received $110 Apple gift card then yes its ~9%.

  • TCN 15% off then wait for 10% off sale would work better.
    Unless you’re going for BTO.

    • +1

How often does TCN 15% come around? Looks like once a year during Christmas.

      • +3

The current pattern is once a year around Black Friday.

    • So it’s better to wait for TCN promo because:

      1. You can get 15% off instead of 10% (equivalent)

      2. You can use TCN card at JB HI-FI which may have cheaper prices on some Apple products than Apple Store

      Right?

  • Can apple store price match retailer?

    • +3

Yes but 10% max off RRP, except iPhone.

      • -1

        what you meant except iPhone?

      • Serious?! Didn't think that was possible.

        • +1

You cannot get Apple to price match through their online store.

You’ll either need to go in-store or call them on 133 MAC.

          • -2

            @WookieMonster: what's 133 MAC?

            • +7

@ozmaxz: The phone number (133 622) where you can call Apple and purchase items over the phone.

              That is handy if:

              • You want Apple to price match an authorised reseller and then pay for your purchase using an Apple Account Associated Balance, and/or
              • You want to price match and you don’t have an Apple Store near you or don’t want to or cannot go in-store.

PS - Woolworths has 10% on some gift card.

What kind of gift card on Woolworth?

    • +10

OP cannot specify at the moment, but my guess is that it would likely be some TCN or Ultimate gift cards.

Actually, OP could specify, but then mods would step in and remove that information, as Woolworths Group considers that “confidential information” and their lawyers would send OzBargain more letters asking them to remove that information.

You’ll need to wait until Monday 5pm AEDT to find out what Woolworths’ deal is.

      • +1

        Great, thanks for clarification

      • +3

        TCN or Ultimate gift cards.

        It ain’t these.

  • -1

2,000 points you redeem, you can get $10 off

  • +2

30x will never come back :(

    • Yep.
They 20x is selling pretty good - no point to try 30x.
The next up one might be 10x to see if sells as good as 20x.

      • Waiting for 40x.

        • Waiting for 60x.

    • -1

I think it will be back. They want to their revenue keeps growing to prevent their share price drop. Neflix is an example. But probably 2nd half of the year, just before new iphone release.

  • -4

    $50 = 10,000 FB Points
    $100 = 20,000 FB Points
    $200 = 40,000 FB points

    Not

    $50 = 1,000 FB Points
    $100 = 2,000 FB Points
    $200 = 4,000 FB points

Please correct so people don't get confused :) Cheers

    • +3

Uhhh OP is trying to explain the number of points you’ll earn on a given denomination of Apple gift cards, not the equivalent value of Flybuys points in Flybuys Dollars.

For example, they’re trying to say a $50 Apple gift card will earn 1,000 Flybuys points in this deal. They are not trying to say that 10,000 Flybuys points is equivalent to $50 in Flybuys Dollars.

      • +1

Got you but might be very confusing :) Thanks for clarification

        • Yeah, it is a bit confusing. I would simply say:

you will have 10% of the Apple gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Flybuys points

However, I am not the OP this time around!

  • So can I use this to buy from the Apple Education store?

    • Yes

      • Is Education store only for Uni and not school?

        • +1

Technicality aside, it's practically accessible by everyone

          • -1

            @feihong: More details please

            • +2

@Ehty: Officially speaking, the only people who are eligible to access the Apple Education Store are:

              • A full time or part time student aged 18 or over with a current student union card or student identification card and studying at an accredited Australian university or other Apple approved institution, or
              • A lecturer or staff member at an accredited Australian university, or
              • A teacher or lecturer working at an Apple approved and registered education establishment within Australia.

If you go into an Apple Store to purchase an item and ask for education pricing, you will almost always be asked for evidence of your eligibility.

However, if you make a purchase through the online Apple Store and opt for either delivery or click and collect, you will almost always not be asked for evidence of eligibility before the order is dispatched or ready for pickup. I don’t think anyone on OzBargain has ever been asked to verify their eligibility, but you’ll need to remember that Apple reserves the right to ask. That’s why the previous commenter said “it’s practically accessible by everyone”.

If you opt to click and collect from an Apple Store, they will ask you for ID, but this is simply to prove that you are who you say you are. I have never heard of any Apple staff in Australia asking for ID and evidence of eligibility before handing over your item(s), but as I said before, Apple reserves the right to ask.

    • +4

You’ll need to be mindful of the fact that you can only redeem a maximum of eight gift cards per transaction on Apple’s online stores (including the Apple Education Store).

You can get around this by adding gift cards to your Apple Account Associated Balance first, and then using that Balance (in conjunction with up to eight gift cards, if required) to pay for your transaction.

However, if you are going to a physical Apple Store and want to purchase an item at education pricing in-store, you cannot use your Balance as a payment method. I’m not actually sure whether there is a limit to the number of gift cards you can use in one in-person transaction, but I suspect it’s also eight.

      • -1

Not happy Jan. I have a friend in the process of getting me apple gift cards at 5% off to use on purchase of around $3500. They can only get one at $500 a day and subsequent ones at lower value. They thought there might be an 8 gift card limit so I went on chat and I asked apple and they said no gift card limit per transaction. We decided to stick with the 1 a day as it was easier to keep track of and just in case.

Sounds like you can get around it with that balance method but still annoying that you contact apple to get you the correct info and it's incorrect.

        • There is a limit of 8 gift cards unless you put them into your iTunes/Apple Store account first and then use the credit for the purchase. The credit is then deducted when the item is shipped.

I had a 4 week wait for a custom MBP and used both GC and store credit. I was surprised that the GC were redeemed immediately but store credit was deducted just prior to shipping.

      • You can get around this by adding gift cards to your Apple Account Associated Balance first(support.apple.com), and then using that Balance

Be absolutely sure before you add those precious gift cards to your Apple Account Balance. Once you do that, Apple will not allow you to transfer them back to the original gift cards, even if you plead with multiple advisors over an hour long phone session.

      • +3

Another thing to note is that when going to a physical store you can ask staff to consolidate gift cards. The new gift cards have a cap of $3000 which gives you an potential balance of $24k if you’re using 8 gift cards. I’ve done this a few times at different stores

        • That is awesome to know! I was not aware of that.

        • -1

I assume you said $2.4k there

          • +1

@FunDeal: No, consolidate up to $3000 per card, max of 8 cards per transaction = $24k.

        • you can ask staff to consolidate gift cards

Do you need to purchase anything at the store before they will allow you this courtesy?

  • +5

A PSA from the previous Apple gift card deal at Coles:

Please check the packaging for evidence of tampering before you purchase any Apple gift cards.

Another OzBargainer purchased Apple gift cards where the packaging was previously opened and the sheet with the gift card code was replaced with a sheet with an invalid gift card code, which meant the OzBargainer ended up purchasing gift cards that were not actually in the packaging.

    • 😮

  • -3

    Does the ATO accept these?

  • Says a limit of 5 gift cards per Flybuys account. Variable load cards are also shown, so best way would be to add $500 to four variable load cards and then $250 to a fifth variable load card.

    • I knew someone would eventually bring this up.

I think this is a case of Flybuys completely butchering their terms and conditions.

The limit of five gift cards per account should actually be referring to the fact that you can only buy an absolute maximum of five gift cards in one transaction, because that is a limit set in Coles’ checkouts. (Staff reserve the right to sell you even less than that in one transaction.)

However, the limit across the entire promotion should be 45,000 points, irrespective of the number of gift cards you purchase across the entire promotion. For example, in a previous Flybuys x Apple gift card promotion (which specified a limit of a maximum of five gift cards per customer), at least one person purchased 15x Apple gift cards during the promotion and received bonus points on all 15 cards, because they had not exceeded the points limit.

If you want to play it safe, you should stick to the variable load gift cards, but my experience with previous Apple gift card deals at Coles is that they are very hard to find.

      • +1

I would agree and think the 'but up to a maximum of 45,000 point can be collected per Flybuys account' note is the one to go on, what it has been in the past. Obviously the variable load card will get you there the easiest.

  • Possible to pay Netflix subscription with this card?

    • +1

It’s only possible to do that if you were paying for Netflix via iTunes before Netflix removed that as a payment option (which was a few years ago, IIRC) and you have continued maintaining a Netflix subscription ever since.

      • +1

As WookieMonster said, if you were in before they canned it, yes. Was always an insane move from Netflix considering Apple apparently take a 30% cut of the fee from Netflix. It used to be a lot more viable when you could get cards at 20-30% off too, but these days not so much…

  • +1

Hopefully 8% cash back in 3 days again. I need buy an iPad Air 4 for my nephew.

    • Is there any reason to believe this would happen? Any idea how frequently cashrewards up the cashback on for Apple?

FWIW The iPad Air is very likely to get an update on the 8th of March if you want to wait and get the latest model.

      • That's just my wish.

My nephew just started college this week, I will try to use his uni email to order an iPad Air 4 with free air pod 2 for him before 7 March. That will be fantastic if buy them with discounted apple gift cards plus 5%-8% cash back.

I missed the 8%Cashrewards deal last month.

  • do they still do 15% off itunes gift cards? or is this the standard for the all in one apple gift card?

    • +2

You’ll be hard-pressed to find App Store & iTunes gift cards being sold at third-party retailers these days, as Apple stopped selling them directly to customers in early July 2021 and third-party retailers have been replacing them with Apple gift cards over the subsequent months.

If you read section 2 of the Apple gift card terms and conditions, it actually states that App Store & iTunes gift cards can be used to pay for products at Apple Stores (e.g. iPhones, iPads, Macs), so I would be incredibly surprised to see them sold at an upfront discount these days (assuming you can find them still being sold!).

      • +1

Great thanks, I didn't realise both cards could now be used to pay for Apple products which makes sense no one is discounting itunes cards anymore. Oh well, time to find alternate ways to get cheaper Netflix, Disney, Kayo and other things that were charging from my itunes account.

If you have a JB Hi-Fi store near you that sells Apple gift cards, you could purchase TCN or Ultimate gift cards from Coles or Woolworths or BIG W when they have promotions, and then use TCN or Ultimate gift cards to pay for Apple gift cards at JB Hi-Fi.

TCN or Ultimate gift cards are treated by JB Hi-Fi as EFTPOS or Visa cards, so they are not blocked by JB Hi-Fi’s checkouts for this kind of purchase, plus you’d be hard-pressed to find a staff member who would deny your request to use them as a payment method for Apple gift cards.

I mention TCN or Ultimate gift cards, as they are sometimes sold at a 10% of 15% upfront discount, or they are sold with bonus Flybuys or Everyday Rewards points where you’d get 10% or ~17% or even 20% of the gift card’s value to returned to you in the form of points. This week’s gift card deal at Coles awards 1000 bonus Flybuys points on the purchase of any Ultimate gift card (up to five gift cards), so if you get a $30 Ultimate Teens or $30 Ultimate Kids gift card (which is redeemable at JB Hi-Fi), you can get ~17% of the gift card’s value returned to you in Flybuys points…

          • @WookieMonster: Do we have any ideas/options/loopholes to combine those 5*$30 ultimate visa gift cards to make single jb gift cards but need to be online not in store???

            • @R n b: I’ve had a think about it, and I’m struggling to come with anything besides go in to a JB Hi-Fi store.

              • You cannot consolidate gift cards on the Ultimate gift card website. You cannot even exchange Ultimate (Teens/Kids/Home) gift cards on the Ultimate gift card website for JB Hi-Fi gift cards at the moment.

              • You cannot consolidate multiple JB Hi-Fi gift cards into one JB Hi-Fi gift card through the JB Hi-Fi website. That stopped last year.

              • You may face problems trying to use an Ultimate gift card to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card through the JB Hi-Fi website anyway, because JB Hi-Fi has a history of randomly cancelling some gift card orders through their website if Ultimate gift cards are the payment method used for the order.

              • You cannot use multiple Ultimate gift cards in one transaction using Apple Pay on the JB Hi-Fi website.

            • @R n b: One way of doing it is buy something equivalent to your gift card then wait a day or two, return it for a full refund. They will refund you in JB Gift Card. (did mine with return of iPhone 13 mini).

              • @cloudie9: Does jb accept Change of mind????

                • @R n b: According to their web site

Unused & Unopened, packaging in good condition (product not faulty) - eg change of mind.

100% refund in first 30 days

  • Can any of the gift cards on offer be utilised at the apple store? So buy the cards , get the points, then convert the points into gift cards to use at apple store.

    • If you’re referring to gift cards available via the Flybuys Rewards store then no. Apple gc is not redeemable via Flybuys store however there are others like TCN Gift, which can be used at JB Hifi or eBay

  • Wohoo just in time - getting a new iPad!

  • Is this offer available for the $500 apple gift card?

    • +2

      Yes, because:

      • It is pictured in the Coles catalogue alongside the $30, $50, $100 and $200 denominations, and
      • It is not listed as an exclusion in the fine print. (The only exclusion in the fine print is the $20 denomination.)
      • Thank you 😊

  • I have some TCN/Ultimate gift cards from previous deals. Am I able to go to JB HIFI and buy apple gift card with my TCN/ultimate gift card? Will staff allow this?

    • +6

The sales system will let you do that, because:

      • TCN/Ultimate gift cards are processed through the Visa or EFTPOS networks, and such are treated as cards (not JB Hi-Fi gift cards), plus

      • JB Hi-Fi has not set up bank identification number (BIN) checks in their sales systems for when you purchase gift cards.1

Staff should also be fine with you using TCN/Ultimate gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards, but don’t go overboard and (for example) try to buy $1000 in Apple gift cards in one go, otherwise it may trigger fraud concerns from staff.

When you go to pay for the Apple gift card, tell staff you’d like to pay by card. If you tell staff you’d like to pay by gift card, staff will select gift card on their sales system, but you’ll get an error as soon as you swipe or tap, as the system can only handle JB Hi-Fi gift cards if gift card is selected.

Generally speaking, the only grey area with TCN/Ultimate gift cards at JB Hi-Fi is whether you can use them to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards. JB Hi-Fi’s head office issued a directive to all stores in Nov 2020 to stop customers from purchasing JB Hi-Fi gift cards using TCN/Ultimate gift cards. However, not all staff currently seem aware of this restriction (or don’t care about it), so YMMV.

      1. Some retailers (e.g. Woolworths, BIG W) do this to stop you from using some EFTPOS or Visa gift cards to purchase some gift cards.

      • +1

        Thank you.
My gift cards are $50 or $100 denominations. Am I able to buy one $500 apple gift card and pay by these gift cards in one transaction? Or do I have to split transactions?

        • My local JB Hi-Fi stores don't sell the variable load Apple gift cards. The highest Apple gift card denomination I've seen is $200. Having said that, it could be different at your local stores!

The sales system will allow split payments when purchasing gift cards at JB Hi-Fi, but this is at staff discretion (and they may wonder why you want to do split payments when purchasing a gift card).

  • are the $500 giftcards hard to find?

    • +1

In the previous deal at Coles, I visited four different Coles supermarkets multiple times throughout the promotional period, and did not see a single variable load gift card.

(There were plenty of $50 and $100 cards, and very few $200 cards.)

      • +1

        interesting! thank you..

also is it easy to add cards to your Apple Account Associated Balance?

  • Will I be able to use red coles gift cards to buy these?

  • Planning to buy a MBP, with the apple back to school offer, total cost comes to around $2000. Can buy the apple gift cards from Coles then use them to purchase the MBP (with the back to school offer). Should I buy 4 $500 gift cards since there is a limit of gift card you can use in a transaction.

    • Yes - as long as you redeem the Apple Gift Cards to credit your Apple ID first.

      Easiest way is to
      1. open the App Store app,
      2. tap your profile pic at top right,
      3. tap Redeem
      4. scan each of the 4x $500 cards such that you have a balance of $2000 on your Apple ID
      5. checkout the laptop and ensure you sign in to your Apple ID, selecting the option to use your Apple ID balance to pay

  • Anybody tried to use the vanilla Visa card to buy these at Coles?

    • no problem at all, I used them to get Ultimate gift cards from last week's 1,000 pts per card deal (grabbed x5 $50), paid with x1 $250 Vanilla (need signature)

      • thanks!

      • Unfortunately, I was not allowed to check out with Vanilla.

The self-service checkout assistant was ready with a screenshot of the Vanilla gift card T&C, which said they cannot be used to buy gift cards at Coles.

I will try again 9pm tonight when hopefully another checkout assistant might be around..
