20% off The Good Guys Gift Cards at Australia Post

4400

20% off on The Good Guys gift cards when purchased at Australia Post from 30 April to 13 May.

PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

Guys if you think it's taking a long time to put them through at Aust Post wait until just wait until you get to the other end at good guys. These cards have a sticker over the pin on the back of the card and that sticker is super hard to remove, the checkout girl at GG groaned as soon she saw my cards said she hates them. She scratched and scratched at that sticker and it wouldn't come off. In the end my Mum and I who both have long finger nails stood there picking off the stickers while the girl put them through the till after each card was put through the till the computer froze for 1.5-2 mins before it would allow her to swipe the next one, reckon we were picking those stickers off for a good 10-15 mins and we only had 6 cards.

TLDR - Consider taking a sharp scraping tool to GG with you to allow easy removal of pin sticker

    • +3

Mine worked with a 5c piece. It's like a strachie not a sticker that you peel off

      • Almost mine had clear tape over the scratchie part once that was dealt with was identical to normal scratchie material underneath

      • Ours all had super sticky clear tape over the scratchie bit, removing the supper sticker brings the scratchie bit off with it

    • +1

I think we should all be kind enough to pre-scratch the pins… They are only covered to stop people grabbing unactivated card details

    • My local post just scan the bar code … Where is the sticker ?!

  • +1

ok. found some at moorebank aus post. nsw. took me 10 mins. they accepted credit.

  • -6

Bah… how are you supposed to contact these damn AusPost shops :( They all list 13138 as the number and it never lets you talk to them :/

Also.. can u guys please keep chatter about what to spend the money on out of the thread?

    • +2

What i did is call them on the 13 number, and then tell them that you want to buy and check availability of the good guys gift cards, then they will do the calling to the individual post offices for you. The lady was also nice enough to ask the post office to put some aside for me :)
      Good luck!

      • -3

Yep just did that. Only 1 x $50 left!

Lol at the down-voters. This isn't a general chatter forum ffs.

          blitz, the champion of relevance

  • +1

Don't fret if you missed out on getting them the first day. 2 weeks and most PO are almost certain to order more in during that period (unless they think its too time consuming to process them individually and decide not to restock).

    • My local PO said they will not restock. TGG cards were all gone within 2 mintues of opening but there are many Best Restaurant cards left.

  • +2

I'm a fist person who went to the East Perth Austport but the lady said, it's already sold out. ohh.. it was sold out since the shop still not open.

    • +2

      Did you use your fists?

      • incredible hulk style?

  • +1

Has anyone's cards purchased today been activated yet??

  • +1

Shieeett I rang up and reserved the only one left at Moonah - $50 :(

    • +1

      Yea. you saved $10….. harhar

      • Yeh fck em I'll just not bother to pick it up now =D

  • I wonder if they will ever sell them on their website. It's still sitting on their UAT server.

  • None in West Perth and Cloisters (and I was there when they unlocked the doors at West Perth) so they either:
    - Never had any, or
    - The staff have pocketed the lot

Lots of signs up in store advertising that they are on sale, without any stock.
Also checked the Cloisters Aus Post shop … none there either.

Pretty f-ing dodgy, don't advertise (esp in store) if you don't have ANY stock.
Asked the guy at West Perth whether they could get any in and got this response "My boss is sick today, I'll ask tomorrow if she's back for you". Thanks Mr Helpful, sorry to put you out.

    • +1

Or customers had them put aside for them.

There was clearly plenty around Australia wide… don't be hating.

      • +1

Yer, I don't think there was a lack of stock. It's a great deal, clearly lots of people have recieved it etc, and I was told their trying to get more in.

      • +1

From most posts on here looks like WA got none. Perhaps someone can correct me?
I guess my post was cranky and informative. I'm not negging … it's a great deal.
Just don't waste your time trying West Perth or Cloisters.

        • +1

At lease 2 posts from Friday earlier in thread. Midland Gate store had some although I doubt there will be any left now.

        • My friend got 3 × $100 cards this morning from Nedlands PO. Still some when he left…

        • I'm pretty sure I cleared out Nedlands… both Broadway and Stirling highway. There were only $50s in Broadway.

        • There's none at Centrepoint Midland or Midland Business Centre or the Malaga PO

        • There's also none in West Perth business centre and Subiaco.

        • I could not see any in Carousel PO on 30/04 either :(

  • +3

Beware, when I purchased the cards today I was alerted that if you try to use them before they are activated they will lock up. Best to wait the 24hrs.

  • +1

Picked up $500 worth of GG's giftcards from Ashfield PO in NSW (first thing in the morning @ 9am when the PO opened). 2 other guys behind me picked up the remaining cards from the shelves…so I assume that there's no more remaining (unless the PO has more at the back).

    Excellent deal by the way!!!

  • +3

Great deal. Just pick up enough to buy 2 ipad's at footscray post shop. ^^

  • +1

pick up $750 worth of TGG cards at Gladesville(NSW), the guys behind me took all the remaining 50s & 100s. went to St Ives (NSW), picked up another $1000 worth of cards, still 8x$100 & more than 20x$50 there when i left 1.5hrs ago, good luck and fantastic deal!! thank you!

  • has anyone found cards around the northern suburbs of Melbourne? no luck for me :(

    • +1

May be helpful to mention which ones you have tried. I posted above that there were 350 left at North Melb PO. But that was at 10.30am so don't know if it's still avail. Maybe call and see?

    • +2

I got cards at Heidelberg West post office, and left several hundred dollars of $50 cards there. There's also post offices at Ivanhoe North & Eaglemont that I was going to try because the post offices are in quiet locations (but I got all I need already).

I bought more than I need in the end (unless I decide to buy a new camera in the next 24 hours). I'd be happy to give them to you at cost value if you can't find any. I have about $350 excess. PM me if you're interested.

  • +4

on another note, I had no problems getting some restaurant cards at 20% off :)

  • Does aus post make any money from this or lose money?

Maybe its their community service for ozbarginers as they made a lot of money from postage fee from internet shoppers

    • I imagine it would have been an Australia Post covered promo… Maybe, just maybe, they split the costs with TGG stores, but I highly doubt it.
It would have been to drive awareness of gift card availability (and other services) at Australia Post, like any other marketing campaign.

I'm surprised they didn't have a limit per customer though, could have done the same job with a hard limit (not that I'm complaining).

      • I would think that there is some kind of sharing arrangement. The good guys reap a huge benefit from this, the post office carry a big variety of cards.
I don't know what the usual revenue share from gift cards is, but there must be some benefit to the retailer who sells the card, otherwise why bother?

  • anyone know if you can use these at other retailers? some gift cards work fine at other shops, just wondering if these would be included :D Also LPO has quite a few as well

    • No. only at the good guys.

  • None left in Perth CBD :(

  • Let's get a list going. All gone in Springvale, Springvale south, clayton PO, Vic

    • They let you order more?? Did you pay up-front for the ordered ones?

      • nah, there was a line so didn't bother lining up to ask.

    • All gone at Waverley Gardens, Rowville and Dandenong too.

I went in before 10AM at all of those places. Someone at 9 bought the whole stack.

You snooze you lose I guess.

I wasn't really expecting to get lucky. After the AMEX Connect deals, it's pretty hard to get hurt about missing out on a bargain.

  • Thanks op. Bought $600 at southland wa this morning and ordered $800 coming in next week. the lady at the counter was very helpful.

    • Can you put back order on this?

  • Grabbed $800 from Belmont Forum at about 0915.

I left $300 there for some lucky bugger..

  • just picked up $2250

    • where from?

      • from melton LOL

  • I just picked up $1000 worth of vouchers from PO Brunswick (415 Sydney rd)
There was about $500 worth of vouchers left.

  • +1

think Auspost will have it biggest turnover 30 April ever today. IMHO

    • and the biggest one day loss ever

    • yeah, I don't think the guy serving me was used to running through $1800 through his register, even after he printed the receipt, he double checked it all with me, and made sure with me that it was all alright

  • -1

Picked up $1550 of vouchers at 9:30am in northwestern Sydney leaving ~$3000 of vouchers which guy behind me took entire lot.

Went shopping and selected some items, tried to use at 12:30pm, no dice - not yet activated.

Getting a Sunbeam Cafe blender for $168 (http://getprice.com.au/Sunbeam-PB9500-Blenders-Mixers.htm) and a 32gb IPOD for $292 for starters. No new IPAD in stock.

The Web site http://giftvouchers.com.au/BalanceEnquiry.aspx is handy - vouchers are now active, after I've come home :)

  • +2

I ordered while on the UTA server and obviously the order didnt go through. I did contact telephone support and it will go live online today. Just don't know what time..

  • +2

I just bought vouchers worth $950.

Might be a very stupid suggestions but people who are having issues getting the card - is there an option to get blank gift cards from Goodguys store and get it to Auspost to activate?

    Cheers

    • how do u plan to smuggle em out of the building

      • I dint think I needed to smuggle them out. The blank cards have no value on them and will not cost retailer anything. I did it once before after asking the sales person who did not have any issues - for a marketing artwork.

        • +1

sold.. now how do we convince the Post Office lady that we didn't smuggle them in

        • @knackers
"found them hidden behind some other gift cards"

        • The Auspost staff do not have any idea of what is on the gift-card display. An external company stocks them and also manages the re-fills - at least that is what I was told. The auspost staff behind the counter do not have any idea of the stock levels or availability.

    • +3

      LOL, now that's an ozbargainer!

    • +3

Might as well bring austpost catalogue and ask them price match and activate there with 20% off?

      • TRUE OZBARGAINER!

      • Price match their own gift card? That's a classic!

    • +2

This will work. I've done the same thing when Dick Smith was giving 5x AMEX bonus points. I got some blank wishcards from woolies and got them activated at dick smith.

They are the same card and Auspost systems will not reject.

      • +1

Don't bother taking gift cards from the Good Guys to try to activate at the PO. The cards issued at the post office are EFTPOS cards which require swipe and pin to use while the cards sold at the Good Guys are not and will be completely different in packaging and appearance.

Under the latest offers on the GG website, they have the Uniden DECT Cordless Triple Pack phones (Model Number: DECT1535+2) for $68, which would make them $54.40 with vouchers, with bonus 4 year warranty ;)

Also the Canon Powershot A2200 is $78 ($62.40 with vouchers) with bonus camera bag.

They have Xbox points now too…price match with EB at $23 makes them $18.40 :D

    • Do they have psn cards??

      • +1

        Yep.

        • thanks now i just need to find a 50 dollar card left somewhere

  • has anyone still got a screenshot of the catalogue?

Is it in the physical catalogue too?

    • Yes it's in the physical catalogue.

    • +2

My PO had a very large amount of Cats right inside the door. Can't take pic of it though as its at home

      • +1

        PO combined with pet shop?

      • +7

ha ha, "large amount of Cats", did you eat them melmacc?

        Alf eats cats - funny

        • HA! Rofl 80s Reference you get bonus points

  • It is easy. my 3 y/o son always takes a few of those colorful ones out of woolies without activating them. it is worthless to them. but i doubt if auspost can scan through the system for cards not ordered by themslves. someone care or dare to try?

  • Wow. Somebody should add up all the purchases mentioned so far. Looking to be in the hundreds of thousands… looks like the big winner of the day is the government (considering 10% GST on transactions) :-)

    • The govt gets two slices of the same pie? GST on the gift card, and then GST on the actual purchase. Is this right?

      • No, GST is not charged on gift cards

  • +1

Picked up 6x$100 worth at Chatswood, Sydney.
    Sold out now.
They say 24 hours for activation.
Went to GG straight away to check - not activated yet.
Googled the 1300 number on the card.
Found this website, where you can check your card balance.
    http://www.giftvouchers.com/BalanceEnquiry.aspx
My cards showed up with $100.
I rang the phone number on website (international no. to save on the 1300 no. hehe)
They told me if it shows on the website, it is activated.
So mine are activated 2 hours after purchase.
    Great deal, thanks to OP.

    • Bad news.. I just ring them… they said my cards never been purchase…
even i wait 24 hours, it wont be activate,,,
Suggest me to go back to AUSPOST and solve it

      • At least you have the plastic cards that all of us are dying for. Bring it back with your receipt.

      • Sorry to hear that…mine were purchased just after 9 am today and have just now gone live- tried just about midday nothing all good now Yippeee

    • thanks for the link! now its time to redeem.

      • oh crud! ipad sold out.
        ;{

  • Do they do smart phone?

  • +1

I just used this 20% off at an AusPost in the Melbourne CBD. No need to wait for April 30!

    • +8

    • 2013?

This list might be handy for some people. A list of major ( ones likely to have the GCs) post offices and their local number: http://www.sayaksilverjewellery.com.au/pdf/List_Of_Retailers…
