Looking at T7, but people say it intermittently disconnects which defeats the purpose of a extended laptop/server storage… anyone with experience?

    • +1

USB is unreliable garbage. You'll have more luck crawling along at USB2 speeds but that sorta defeats the point.

    • +1

I have one of these for my work laptop for a few months now. I run all my virtual machines directly from it, and never had a problem

    • According to some, updating the firmware should fix the issue. I personally haven't experienced it myself

    • +4

The fix is to download the latest version of Portable SSD Software 1.0 for Windows here https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/t…

Install and open the app and install the new update for the drive, it should fix the disconnection issue.

The one that comes with the drive also said version 1.0, but this new one is also version 1.0, but if you check the properties of the file it's version 1.7.4.3,

  • +2

Are there any 2TB PCIe 4.0 drives that will be included in this?

  • -4

    AfterPay, yeah nah.

    • you can pay everything off in one go, so the few extra clicks are worth it for the discounts

      • +4

Saving a few bucks isn't worth having an Afterpay transaction on my financial history. May make you look like you're not financial secure or responsible.

Sure, you can try to justify it to the lender that "It saved me $20, only reason I used it". They might believe…

        • +1

So afterpay is same as credit card? They will assess all financial criteria?

          • -4

@CyberMurning: Credit Cards are normally used by adults, who have passed financial checks.

AfterPay has no checks, making it appealing to youth and those with poor credit.

Which do you think looks better on an application?

            • +1

@PainToad: It's pretty common for people to use them just for deals. Considering the volume of transactions they say they process, a good chunk of which are just people looking to take advantage of deals, and the amount of promotions they run, I'm not sure if solely using them would be a valid reason to look negatively at someone's application.

            • +3

@PainToad: You have to be 18 or over to use AP, this shows how little you actually know how this works.
How is someone who is 18 a youth ?
I am amazed and your anti AP posts, just because it does not suit you, does not mean others cannot use it in a manner that is much more beneficial than any CC.

              As you were.

              • -4

How is someone who is 18 a youth ?

Of course 18 is still youth. faceplam

                1) the time of life when one is young especially 2) the period between childhood and maturity. 3) the early period of existence, growth, or development.

                • +1

@PainToad: No 18 is an adult, you are in the legal system as an ADULT ergo the term.

                  • -3

@[Deactivated]: What you are arguing about is trivial. 18 is a youth, next you'll be saying 18 and 19 is not a teenager.

                    • +1

@doowhydiddi: I spoke of in legal sense, which is what they were referring to initially, you have to be 18 which is the legal age of an Adult here in Australia, thank anyways I mean you're trying to make claim something that is not viewed in the legal sense, which is what we are talking about here.

          • +1

@CyberMurning: Oh no it's way worse than a credit card. Afterpay is for people who aren't eligible for credit cards.

I doubt a record of using it and paying it off will have any negative effects though, could be wrong.

            • @Diji1: something that goes to our credit record but doesnt have credit check ? i am confused how this is even legal….

        • Once the afterpay loan is paid off, it's gone from your credit score

          • @greatlamp: And yet the payment will show in your bank statement forever.

        • +14

As someone who works for a big 4 bank in home lending, this is partially correct. If at the time you're applying you're paying back afterpay transactions it'll be listed as a liability the same way a credit card does.

However, it doesn't make you look financially irresponsible at all… If you have the income to repay both debts it won't affect the outcome of the loan. If you prove there's nothing owing to afterpay it doesn't even need to be included on the application as a liability.

I can't speak for all banks, but if your bank came back to you and said "Sorry you have afterpay so you can't have a mortgage/ loan" I'd be shopping elsewhere

          • @chombah: My bank told me it's better to have no credit history instead of a "good" history. It shows you don't need credit for small purchases that you really shouldn't need to go into debt for.

My guess it depends how the deep they need to go.

The last 12 months, the banks have been giving money out to idiots who have no place owning a house because of government handouts, super cashing in and super low interest rates.

Bet that will change with cost of living increasing, upcoming interest rate increases and potential for negative equity if the market slows/crashes.

            • +2

@PainToad: Yeah, 100% having no other credit cards or loans if going for a mortgage is best, it means the liability doesn't need to go on the application.

But if say you had a credit card with a 15k limit that you used just to earn points and paid back every month, your broker/ bank can ask you to close it ask for evidence and remove the liability from the application if it hurts your outcome.

Trust me the bank wants the loan approved, most important thing is being able to afford it. But as I said if you've recently used afterpay we will ask you about it but won't ruin the outcome (In my experience)

              • @chombah:

Trust me the bank wants the loan approved, most important thing is being able to afford it.

I thought the most important thing was getting the customer. If being able to afford it was the most important thing, banks wouldn't of been giving loans out to people who can't afford the upcoming interest rates. Or allowing people to over pay for shit boxes that are a negative equity ticking time bombs.

            • +1

@PainToad: This is an absolute lie, no credit history means you cannot apply for services that banks offer, your bank told you something that would make potential customers, not customers?

              OK.

            • @PainToad: The problem arises when you have an active afterpay, from a lenders point of view it is credit, but there is no limit visible to them.

If you close a credit card, it will naturally still appear on your credit record, but it's closed - the liability is gone. Same with a repaid afterpay loan.

Don't go applying for afterpay if you are in the process of signing a new mortgage. After that you can do what you like.

          • @chombah: This depends on the bank. Some require afterpay to be there with the limit, some ignore afterpay altogether, some just put the balance owing (which makes no sense compared to how other credit products need to be treated), some score you poorly on qualitative credit rating sections if you have afterpay (as it is linked to people defaulting on credit cards at a higher rate). There isn't one answer on this. However, for most, it isn't an issue as most don't have material limits on afterpay.

        • Yea, nah don't worry about it. You'll add to your pain by worrying.

    • +2

      Beforepay, nah yeh

        Username checks out

    • There's a lot of hate for the BNPL sector globally for good reason:

      • ABC: 'A downward debt spiral': Global calls to rein in buy-now, pay-later companies

They're not regulated and only follow an industry "code of conduct"

  • Trying to add the MX Keys to cart and it keeps erroring out with "Failed to perform their action". Anyone else?

    • Just adding to cart and not using the code yet right?

Maybe they are currently or just updated the listing so its bugging out.

  • +4

Dunno why people are such luddites about afterpay. I love the price of the 5600x, would get one but AM5 is so close

    • +3

Australians hate it when the Jones' next door are having a good time. They'd rather grumble like it's still 2017 and Afterpay is still this mysterious thing with little information on what it is. But young Billy thinks it's great but he's only 21 and he can't possibly know better about his own money than a Boomer.

  • With so many choices for portable hard drives, not sure which one to buy. Need a decent hard drive with 4-5TB. Need to back up phone data and some video editing back ups (work purpose). Can anyone recommend which one is better? Seagate expansion or one touch? There is also a deal going for Toshiba Convio basic 4TB for $105. Please help.

    • I would suggest to invest in a portable SSD. If you drop a portable HDD, especially the smaller usb powered ones (which are basically laptop drives), you could lose your data.

  • Do you have to have after pay for this deal??

    • +8

Umm, yes? As well as eBay account, which is quite surprising…

    • +2

I'm going to go out on a limb and say with Afterpay being in the title, description and half the comments, that yes, Afterpay is required.

  • any ssd deals?

  • Is worth the price paying for Nintendo Switch OLED, instead of the Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing? It's just OLED display on the switch itself right?

The Animal Crossing (AC) version uses the new processor as well, which deliver more power but with battery consumption?

    • +3

Oled is worth the extra for sure

    • +2

Not even the price of a new Switch is worth it. Get 2nd hand.

    • +2

If you plan on using it as a portable then oled is worth it, it’s a bigger screen with nicer colours. Comparing the two, the screen size jump feels bigger than it actually is.
But if you plan on playing docked, there’s basically no difference.
I was looking at 2nd hand, but prices still close to $300, so i don’t think the saving is really worth it.

      • 2nd hand OLED for $300 is not a bad deal. Here is WA 2nd hand normal Switch is $300.

        • I should have been more specific, I was meaning standard v2, I can only wish 2nd hand OLED were going for $300. 🙂

    • I suggest if you want a Switch either OLED or AC edition pull the trigger now. Never if Australia and the rest of the world put sanctions on China will cause chips shortage again.

    Great price on the 5950X

  • +4

    Searching link is here: https://www.ebay.com.au/e/coupon-offers/15-off-top-picks-aft…

I'm using the discount to finally get a PS5 1TB SSD… plenty of discounted options including the Samsung 980 Pro & Firecuda 530.

  • Is it worth upgrading to a 5600x from a 1600 af or will 6 cores/12 threads be outdated once games are strictly developed for PS5/Series/PC?

    • +1

No one knows what's going to happen in the future.
If your GPU is around gtx 1080 tier or lower you probably wont notice a difference in performance in most games.
But if you upgrade your GPU you probably wont see a difference either so you have to upgrade your CPU some time, whether you do it before, after or at the same time as a GPU upgrade is up to you.

    • Thats a huge upgrade, if you can do it without changing your motherboard I would.

If you need to replace your motherboard I would switch to Intel, the 12600k will be 15-20% faster than the current AMD range due to the single core performance

  • +1

Hmm… looks like samsung T7's aren't included under AFPYDY code…. are there anyone else having same issue?

  • +1

I am trying to buy T5 but it says “this code cant be applies to your order” even when I chose Afterpay as a payment method. Any advise?

  • +1

First time using Afterpay. What a waste of time. My credit record is clean and I don't even have a loan or mortgage.

Sorry, we're unable to approve your order.
Afterpay takes a number of factors into account when making a decision to decline an order and given this we do not approve all of the orders that are made on the Afterpay platform.
    What can I do?
Please return to the store of purchase and use an alternative payment method to complete your order. This doesn't mean that you won't be able to shop with Afterpay ever, we hope you will try us again in the future.

    • Wait a couple of days and they will send you welcome emails encouraging you to spend and how much you meant to them.

I had a similar experience right after I signed up, could not buy a $50 item from JB and this was after account was setup and app showed I had $600 to spend. When I received the 'welcome' email, I created a case requesting info about why the first purchase did not go through, all they could say was "number of factors" without being able to explain why.

I think the only factor is disconnected process where they approve an account before they approve the spending.

      • I tried again last night. Still the same error.
So went to buy elsewhere, spend 10 more but I'm happy without dealing more time with this AF BS.

    • Had the same BS. What a waste of time. Pathetic systems in place on their backend. Ended up using my partners.

  • Is Huawei Matebook D14 good choce fo r$790?

  • Still trying not to upgrade from 3600 to 5600x. I'm about to install an aftermarket cpu cooler so now is the time.. But there's no real world benefit to gaming. But.. It's so hard to keep saying no

    • I wouldn't bother with such a small upgrade. Maybe to a 5800x.

  • Aaaw animal crossing or oled ?

    • oled

    • Depends if you want to save the extra money or not.

  • Can a partial payment with ebay gift cards be done?

    • I should have just edited this into my post ;p

    • Not attractive since 12400f is $244.8 with discount code.

      • +5

Not denying that the 12400f is good value, but the 5600x remains pretty attractive for existing am4 users looking for an upgrade.

Plus am4 boards are affordable enough to mostly make up that price difference in comparison to intel boards, especially at the lower end

      • <6% better single core for worse or same multicore

      • +1

The 5600x is better value because AM4 boards tend to be cheaper than a 12th gen compatible board.

Cheapest compatible 12th gen board is $142 as per PCPartPicker

        • +1

Probably wouldn't want to touch that $142 option with a 10ft barge pole either. Cheapest good B660 is the MSI B660M-A PRO, $220 delivered from Centrecom.

But you can pick up the well regarded MSI B550M PRO-VDH for $150, and it includes wifi as well

    • +1

It is if it's not a whole platform upgrade 😃

    • Excellent prices for excellent CPUs, I am still rocking the 3700x which suits me fine as I don't game and I love the lower TDP.

    • Should I pull the trigger on this and get a new B550 board?

Not sure if I'll be able to flog my 3600 and B450 board, they've been on Gumtree for a while.

      • Why get a new board? My b450 is fine with 5600x and OC'd RAM.

      • +1

Do you need a B550 board? Most B450 should be able to run the 5600X, and unless your GPU is the 6500 XT, PCIe 4.0 doesn't mean much in the real world

    • Bought a 5600x when it was down to $360 in Jan, that was a great price this is in another league…

Very competent card, needs a decent tower cooler at least.

  • Any way to get the Logitech MX Keys cheaper without using the AfterPay ?
I have been waiting for it for so long.
I bought the MAC version in the previous deal but it wont connect to my Dell XPS Windows 11 via Bluetooth. The dongle had to be used to other device. Hence had to return it.

Any changes it might come cheaper around Easter ?

  • Price gone up $140.16 with MX keyboard

Only had 3 left when I checked out

  • how do i get this without afterpay? Im applying for a homeloan and they don't look too fondly on BNPL?

  • MX Keyboard delivered by Amazon although its an eBay item from Harris Technology so that's weird
