Great little esports/student build, yes the 6500xt isnt a great gpu but can you really argue with that price.

  • +17

    Are the components current?

Built 12 months ago. Should be new. /s

Goodbye high yield investment - hello 12 month old builds

        • But if i HODL on this build. Will it be worth more? That is the question.

    • +5

      You'll game like you're in 2012 (with that 6500XT).

      • +1

That's an upgrade for me! Still partying gaming like it's 2008 here!

  • +5

This is actually quite smart as the 11400 has an encoder, making up for the 6500xts lack of one

  • @BPC was this inspired by me?

    • +1

Would I be able to use Pro tools with this?

    • 699?

  • +1

Would def upgrade the gpu but overall it's nice to see prices coming down.

    • But whats the max GPU that little 450W PSU can take? 3060?

      • +2

11400 use ~100w, mobo/fan/hdd/ssd/ram use say 50w, lets say everything less GPU use 200w, which is definitely over estimated.

EVGA 450 bv have 12v35A = 420w, you will be able to use any GPU that is around less than 220w.

I'd say it's 99% safe to use 3060ti/6700xt, or lower(100% safe) for current Gen, previous gen then 2070 super or lower should also be fine.

you could also slightly lower the power limit of your GPU, and by then 3070/3070ti, rx 6800, rx 6800xt should all be fine to use…. but why buying a high end card and manually limit its performance.

6500xt too weak the others are just fine, $699 too good to be true

    • True, I saw this prebuilt earlier and want to post it here, but thinking most hate this 6500XT so much, hence might not really be a good deal …

      • +1

It depends on your needs. The 6500xt is ~20% faster than my rx 570, and I can pretty much play anything- not just esports stuff. The 6500XT will easily handle current gen 1080p titles.

        • I’ve got an Rx570. What’s your plan?

          • +2

@WhyAmICommenting: Step 1. Sell on eBay for $300. I don't understand why they go for that much haha.
            Step 2. Buy a 3060 or something for $500.
Step 3. Use it for 5 years like the 570

The critical thing for me is just because gpu manufacturers and game companies keep trying to convince us that ray tracing, DLSS or whatever the next gimmick is is worth $$$$, that doesn't mean we have to buy into their propaganda. Ray tracing so computationally demanding and the gain in details and realism is entirely not worth it for me. Check out this screenshot of ray tracing on hitman 3:
            https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/22276635/H…
Ah but guess what, I lied, that is just hitman 3 on the highest settings at 1080p running @ 60 FPS (which the rx 570 is easily capable of), it doesn't even have ray tracing yet. All they did is get the scene and mirror transpose it onto the ground with some skewing. That is so computationally cheap and it looks just as good as RTX to my eyes. Granted it is "baked in" and not real time like RTX, but how many games have such dynamic scenes that require redrawing the reflections constantly? As for DLSS, that is just some fancy low res downscaling coupled with some blurry anti aliasing. I can't even look at it.

        • Could it handle triple screens on iracing?

          • @BigTacoBandit: Hmm. Triple screen res represents about 6 million pixels and 4K is about 8, so you're almost displaying 4K. With the fast motion in that kind of game you would really notice low framerates. I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRjG7XIEJdw&ab_channel=RichD…
The CPU and GPU in the video are a good 30% slower than in this deal. The guy gets 200 fps + at 1080p medium looking settings, and he claims it can give a playable experience at lower settings with triple monitors. Given the 6500 is a bit faster you might get away with it. That being said, the 6500 standalone is a very bad idea and you should spend a few hundred more for better bang-for-buck.

            Me, to me

    • Haha I slap my face twice and then refresh the page again, still showing $699, so it is real!

  • Is this any good for me to replace my current HP N54L Microserver used solely for PLEX?

    • +6

Overkill but $699 is a bargain.

Still rockin' my beloved n40l. Top 5 OZB purchase of all time.

      • +1

The lil N40L's punch above their weight that's for sure. Mine still rolling also…

      • +1

Using mine into a shield pro for 4k encoded content, works a charm

      • +1

Microserver owner represent. Still got my 2 rocking along.

        • Yup ran for 6 yrs on 3TB WD Reds and hope for another 6 years on 8 TB Toshiba NAS drives (running Plex+Truenas and with excellent uptimes). Keep mine mainly for 1080p content. Have plenty of PCs to upgrade but that form factor and how much you can pack in so good. Use with modified BIOS for full speed SATA and the eSATA to SATA cable to stick in the extra HDD. 120GB SSD for TrueNAS OS drive.

Have a spare N40L in case one of the parts finally carks it (maybe the PSU). If all goes well might reach 2030 with the N40Ls and then they get a well deserved retirement.

          • +1

@amaslam: I even bought 2 sets of the drive caddy so you fit 2 extra 3.5" hdd in the cdrom drive bay. One for each n40l.

    • +2

Wow, I've still got my N40L what a brilliant box that has been.

I assume you're not transcoding your Plex streams on the N54L? (Unless you slotted in a low profile NVIDIA card) I've heard that the 6500XT doesn't encode, so probably not the best for a decent Plex box.

But the CPU will destroy the N54L.

      • +3

I am also still rocking my N40L with 3 x 12TB drives and works great as a PLEX box

  • Will it (I mean GPU) run Cyberpunk 2077 in 1080p with all bells and whistles with decent frame rate?

  • Just checked few benchmark game testing on 1080p with Ultra or high quality, most AAA titles all can't go over 60 FPS, is that acceptable or not?

    • +8

      Acceptable…for under $700

  • Could you put a GTX 3060 or 3070 to get more gaming out of it? Would the other components still get the job done?

    • I think the 450w psu would be the only issue

    • Yes, apart from the PSU. You would want to bump up to at least a 550-600W bronze or higher.

  • good price

  • +1

Similar build but upgraded GPU RTX3050 and case for $999 https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/kp-tribe-lite-siren-vorte…

  • Is this a better buy than this Ryzen? I won't be gaming but will set it up as home lab with multiple VM.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gaming-PC-AMD-RYZEN-5600G-16GB-3…

    • Bit bigger SSD but overall less storage and shared video memory. I wouldn't have thought so. Both are OK, would be included to go with the posted deal here.

  • +5

The number of people complaining about this GPU are surprising. This GPU is able to run Forza Horizon 5 at ~90FPS at high graphics 1080P.

To me at least, that's pretty good, especially when the entire PC altogether costs only $699.

    • The issue is inconsistency, it sometimes performs worse than a 1660.

      • No clue why that is, but fair enough is it really is the case. I thought the inconsistency was due to how intensive recent games were. I realized the Cyberpunk performance was terrible, but just though it was a Cyberpunk thing.

Regardless, for $699 this is still an excellent PC.

      • According to Techpowerup the performance is bang on with a 1650 super at 1080p. Price aside it’s still 8% faster than a 1060, which is worshipped in comparison.

    • Forza 5 is a very easy game to run. Other Triple A games like cyberpunk 2077 won't even hit 60fps on low or will do 60fps around medium. Might as well buy a console at that price unless you play esport kinda stuff a lot. Low capacity ssd is also a dealbreaker since you'd have less than 200gb to work with after OS+other needed software, would rather they got rid of the HDD and upgraded the ssd in return.
