  • great value! i need to cancel some of my other amaysim sims first

    • So if one cancels previous amaysim accounts, does this deem one to be a new customer and could you port your number to them which i ported to them previously

      • mostly they will not allow to port from their own number…

you can try porting from amaysim -> any other network -> amaysim…
(i did this for the redbull $10 -60 days plan)

        • +1

port to gt mobile, they will give you free sim card.

    • if you don't mind a new number then i think they voucher will work if you order a new sim. i did that with the last amaysim promo.

  • Is amaysim on optus or vodafone?

    • +1

      Optus

      • -1

        optus… no data reception anywhere
        I struggle to use over 50mb a month…

        • +4

It's the next best thing to Telstra. Of course everywhere has black spots. I know someone with 4g telstra mobile and the vodaphone network is the only one that gets reception inside, go figure. Use what works for you but honestly optus is the best mobile network that won't charge an arm and a leg.

        • i came from 3/vodaphone to amaysim
optus's network is far far better, and i believe only bested by telstra

        • Exactly they do not have 850MHZ network which is much better than 2100Mhz counterparts.
Even Vodafone speeds are better. Optus 2100 is lousy

    • It's Optus, but my wife, who was with Vodafone, is wanting to go back to Voda after a month on Amaysim because of massive data connection issues (3GS). (I've gone from Optus to RedBullMobile (Voda) with my DesireHD and can't say it's got any worse for me.) We're in Collingwood, but trek around the city to the outer suburbs a bit, but not much further in general. So I'm about to move her phone from Amaysim to RBM - it's cheaper (marginally on the one month plan, but a fair bit if you prepay for a year), and seems to work better, which surprised me.

      • +6

That's actually also because of the phone you have. A 3GS does NOT support the UMTS/HSDPA 900MHz band (Optus "yesG" - 94% coverage) and hence you can only roam 3G on the UMTS/HSDPA 2100MHz Optus 3G Network - which only has 80% coverage!

Also i'm NOT talking about GSM 900MHz (2G), which the 3GS does support!

        http://www.optus.com.au/aboutoptus/About+Optus/Network+Coverage/Coverage+Maps+(old)/Network+Coverage+Maps

It's one area where Telstra are smarter than the other networks where they will take ages to "approve" a phone for use on their network if you buy a contracted phone from them. Rather than letting "any" phone be sold on a contract with their network like the 3GS (which only roams 3G in metro) is with Optus and their partners.

        • Yes, except that as I said, it's almost entirely metro stuff, and it's just not as good as Voda was. And the phone worked fine on Optus for a couple of years initially.

    • +1

how could they enforce the "one connnection per person, per phone" condition? I mean, what's stopping people from buying several and activating them one per month until August 1?

      • +2

I'm sure if you asked Amaysim that question they would tell you they have some database.

  • +14

Will I get to talk to the girl in the photo?

    • -4

Girls with hair tied up = fail; I'd rather have the sim lol

      • +3

        Fail?

        That's a bit harsh.

    • +2

I would rather "see" the girl, imho pretty girl =/ Intelligent conversation

  • -1

I got two of these last round and had much superior reception than the first of the redbull deals im using now. So many drop outs that it is a burden to use. I must activate the second rbm by mid June which takes me to mid Sept. to go amaysim and activate by Aug1, would be within the second rbm period but im very tempted to get this and waste the poxy rbm-almost non existent- burdensome coverage.

  • so is the 3g any good if you are in the city (mel) in a highrise building. currently using the discount telstra ones and they work great.

only need it for data for my tab so no use if the data is not very good!

    • You could ask around to see how other people fare with the Optus network in that highrise. I've generally had no problems, but there are always exceptions to the usually quoted order Telstra > Optus > Vodafone.

I must admit I am a little biased because their systems made a mistake in my favour and gave me a second month of unlimited after the first ended (this was the Cudo offer from last year). :D But I also had reception in country areas where I expected none so that was a pleasant surprise. Also I think their AYG is good value for low usage so I have recharged with that.

Edit: just after I hit Post, I got an email from Amaysim saying that national calls on AYG are now 12c/minute down from 15c/minute, no flagfall. IMO a big difference from the inflated prices on monopoly money of other carriers.

Don't even bother with this, Amaysim offers bad communication and service. Been with them before, not going to make the mistake of going with them again.

  • anyone know the sim provided is a micro sim (pre-cut & pop out from a normal sim) ?
want try out in an ipad for a month…

    • Last time not micro

    • Yes their sims are able to be turned into a microsim

      • how? is it a pop-able one? or you mean by a template from www and a stanley knife? thks

        • pop-able.

        • perforated for micro-sim

  • Meh, I'd rather go with the telstra $10 pack with 3gb, no call and less a gig, least u have the signal strength to brows the net, painful enough with my optus plan, anything with optus, forget about it. Optus only work in one location, which is under my bed!

    • can share the link for or where to get the $10 3Gb pack pls? its $30 at telstra site.

      • If this is the Woolies or Coles one that was last week.

  • Im on optus at queens park sydney and it works fine , good data download speeds.

  • If only this was on offer at stores. =)

    • +1

Why? They even mail it to you for free.

      • The problem is…I don't just my card to shop online. Ever. =)

        • I think I paid with Paypal the last time, but not sure this time about Living Social. Amaysim doesn't have my CC details, because I didn't want automatic recharge or anything like that.

  • is it only for the 1st month?
    how bout afterward??

    • You get put on As You Go. If no recharge, no outgoing calls or SMS. After a period of no recharge, account gets cancelled.

  • -3

$10 to get my credit card details? no way!

    • +3

so you prefer paying $100 rather than $10 as the others do for the same thing? go ahead…

  • so, where can i buy this deal? and if i use over the limit ,would it charge me more? . cos i going to buy it. please help

    • +1

Where can u buy? Umm maybe the link :S

    • and if i use over the limit ,would it charge me more?

YES - they have excess data usage. It is NOT prepaid, they will not cut you off when your data runs out.

However you can pay it prepaid.

    • Since you prepay, what happens is when you exceed the data quota, there is no money in your account to pay for excess usage so effectively you are cut off. Provided you haven't given Amaysim your CC and authority to charge it.

But believe me, 4GB is a lot unless you are watching Youtube or downloading all the time. I checked email and websites quite often during the day, and allowed updates of apps when I had it and I consumed about 1/2 GB in a month. That's one thing that will help, don't let your apps update automatically; do the update when you are on WiFi. A FB update for example will cost you 11 MB.

And don't be panicked by people who talk about the 1MB or 10MB session rounding. I left my phone on all the time and didn't observe huge consumption due to this.

  • I want Coles to make a special offer for recharge vouchers again!

  • already? Woollies just finihed one.

  • Please help didnt use livingsocial before. How do I get my SIM. I am waiting for my voucher. What happens after I get my voucher? Thanks loads in advance. Regards,

  • Maybe I can couple this with the redbullmovile thingy I got last month and switch between the two for approx 3 months for $20?

  • Anyone know what happens when the 30days ends?

    • It reverts to 'Pay as you Go'. No contract either way.

  • Can the sim be used in android tablet?

  • Is it $10 for the first month and then $39.95 for the remaining months?

  • I ported my number from Lebara to Amaysim just yesterday (it's still in the process of being ported over)…though I didn't ask for any credit (and it seems to have been allowed)…
    so, my question is:
will they allow me to use this voucher on a SIM (bought elsewhere) that I have just activated (my first Amaysim account)? Does it matter that I don't use the SIM that comes in the post with this deal - and so I have 3 days to activate, does this mean that I can use this voucher, as I am a new account with Amaysim?

    • I think you should contact Amaysim to ask.

      • Thanks greenpossum …
Amaysim said that I would not be able to use the voucher for this number as the SIM that is sent out needs to be the one used. However, I can always get the voucher, use it with the new SIM (and a new number). Am thinking of porting my primary number over from Virgin (all of my 2 eggs in the same basket - bit scary :) cos Amaysim don't inactivate your account for ages (and will extend it if you ask them) if you aren't using it (I travel a lot so that suits me). The only thing I don't like about Amaysim (not that I have used them as yet, so this is theoretical), is that we pay to pick up voice-mail (Virgin voice-mail is free).

  • I just realized that it seems once you redeem your living social voucher, your AnySIM card is activated. Hmm, i don't need it right now, but i have redeemed my voucher. Bad…

    • How is this possible when you haven't got your sim card?

    • Is this true?

      • As seen in the email i got from AmaySIM:

We just need you to BPAY your balance before we can activate and send out your amaysim SIM. Here’s your BPAY details – easy!

You’ll be able to use your 4GB of data and UNLIMITED standard talk¸ text and access to social networks (Australia wide) as soon as you get your SIM!

The amount need to pay is $0 and they indicated the card will be activated before they send it out.

        • thanks Saturday. I need to port in my own number on 15/6/2012, how can I do? If I redeem the voucher now, it will be activated before they send it out. Does it mean the sim card is on the way to me, and I can't use the port in number for a few days, because it's activated. If this is the case, I will ask for a refund within 5 days.

        • I got a similar message what do I do? How can I pay a $0 balance? Will the SIM not be sent if I dont pay anything?? Confused please help?

    • What makes you think that? In the T&C somebody above quoted:

      • SIM card must be activated by August 1, 2012

which implies nothing happens until you get your SIM in your hot little hands and then activate online. At that point you can port a number you already have or use a new one of theirs (you get some choice in the actual number).

It's always confusing when there are two merchants involved, in this case LS and Amaysim. You redeem the LS voucher for an Amaysim SIM that will come in the post, and then you activate the Amaysim SIM. That was the case in previous group buys.

  • Why is Amaysim sending me

"We just need you to BPAY your balance before we can activate and send out your amaysim SIM. Here’s your BPAY details – easy! Amount: $0.00"

I selected amaysim "Prepaid" pay by voucher or BPAY. How can I pay a $0 balance.

    Anyone? Thanks loads in advance.

    • have you got your sim yet?

  • I joined Amaysim last night (BEFORE I read about this great deal).. not wanting to have an account (or supply myu credit card details) that rolled over a new credit when I get low, I opted to pay by BPay. So I got a $0 balance - it worked. They ported my number and have given me $0.01 balance today - so I guess that means that I can receive calls, just cannot make them. Works for me as this is my 'secondary' phone number.

I called them today and asked them some stuff - they seem very reasonable and very generous.

    hope this helps

    Michelle

    • Hi Michelle, Amaysim have been good to deal with AND they've just dropped their per-minute rate on PAYG, which I'm on. Bonza! 12 cents per minute.

  • good one..

  • Hey anyone know when does the voucher expire? (I know the sim activation expires by 1st Ausgust)

When make a purchase (using the voucher), and im porting an old number. Should i select new or old? I dont want to port yet, but in a months time. And does the porting take place now, or is this for sending out the sims?

    cheers.

    • The voucher would be useless after Aug 1 so there would be nothing gained from delaying redeeming the voucher.

After you receive and activate the SIM, one of the options on the web form is whether you want to port an old number.

  • "DEAL OVER" :web site

  • Got my SIM card today. I just checked my amaysim account online and found it is shown as "Your expiry date: 04 Jun 2012". So basically it is about 26 days unlimited calls for me, not exactly one month.

    • umm saturday,
how much did you pay via bpay?
i tried $0.01 in netbank (CBA) but it told me, the biller wants a min of $1.00

      quote:
Biller Code 7179, Customer Reference Number 4169406487: The amount you have entered is below the minimum $1.00 accepted by this Biller. Please enter an amount higher than the minimum accepted.
