I put the code in, but instead of being sent to the next bit to put the temporary access code in it just said:

          Account Locked
To keep your info safe, we can't
          complete your request and we've
locked access to your app. Please give
us a call - safety first!

          • +1

@WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Jeez that sucks, hope you're able to get it resolved without too many problems…

          • +1

@WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Force stop the app, go to storage and clear data. Try again but let the app autofill the sms code.

If you have an iPhone then I don't know how to translate what I just said, but you should be able to do it.

I got past the SMS code and it asked me for the 6 digit access code, however the original temporary access code they sent me doesn't work.

After trying several times it seems I'm possibly locked out. Going to wait 10 mins and try again. Based on what others have been saying, I cbf calling them if I am going to have to wait a long time on hold.

Edit: yep locked out now, they sent me an sms saying I need to call

            • @bonezAU: i got a message seems you shouldn't be here or something..
i have access code next time, but cant login..
didnt prompt to insert temporary code.. lol..

          • @WoodYouLikeSomeCash: Did you figure out why they locked your account?

Next thing they will ask for scanned copies of your IDs.

  • Previously registered for the app when applied for a credit card. Now the application process keeps pointing me to the app to apply for the savings account. But I can’t see the same 20k points offer via the app.

  • No Samsung Pay it seems, otherwise wouldve kept account open after claiming offer.

    • +1

Pay on the go with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay

      • Will try to add once the card comes in, cheers

        • you can add it before the card comes, already did mine

        • Did anyone manage to verify the Apple wallet for virgin money?
It says I’ve to call them to verify which looks to be around 1hr+ from the comments

        • when the card come in? just registered and there's no card in the Manage cards section

      • What can use Google Pay? What retailers accepts? Haven't used before

        • lol

        • +1

Try at all retailers that accept credit cards.

Don't bother with those showing "Cash Only".

  • Do we need to wait for actual debit card or can start spending with apple pay?

    • believe you can spend directly using Apple pay, but unclear if it will be part of your $100 spend within 30 days

      • it does count

        • Where is the debit card section? Does it only show up after the funds are loaded?

          • +1

@gamesnepal: it was in the manage cards section (if I remember correctly)

  • So does this stack with referral bonus or best not to use that?

    • Apparently it does stack according to others posting above.

  • +3

Couldn't verify my ID, wow never had that before.

    • +1

Same the first time. Just applied again from scratch using same detsils and it worked

    • same

    • Same happened to me. I had to start from scratch and provide two IDs.

  • +5

Could never activate my account, tried calling helpdesk, was on wait for over 2hrs. Finally gave up. One of the worst customer services among any financial institutions.

    • +1

I just got through in 6 minutes, perhaps the OzBargain post hasn't helped call traffic (when you called), just a thought :)

    • Try Qantas, you will be glad that you don't have to wait for over 6 hours.

  • Could not verify my ID using my Australian driver licence even after trying like 5 times, received 5 emails to complete ID verification.. tried using my Foreign passport with valid visa and it worked in the first attempt. Never encountered this before with other banks

    • It does a live ID check via government records, if there is even one space, one character different, a different line of text (over 1 line or 2 lines) it won't be able to automatically ID you as it needs to be a 100% match.
Just set mine up and I made this mistake, when I corrected it, bingo!

    • I entered my passport with Australian visa first and then my drivers license from Australia. Only then, was my account verified.

  • +13

I did this a few weeks ago. Opened debit card account, transferred and spent $100 and a few days later had enough points for $110 worth of gift cards. I used Google Pay and had it all before the physical card arrived. You can transfer it to cash but less value.

Also note that Virgin Money Points are NOT Velocity Points.

    Please use the referral links.

    • Can you stake 20k points with extra 5k points by using the referral link?

      • +2

Yes, the referral link that you click on to sign up states you get 5000 for referral and 20000 as a new customer

        • No, it seems only 20000 regardless: "That means your friend will receive a referral bonus of 5,000 Virgin Money Points and you’ll receive our welcome bonus offer of 20,000 Virgin Money Points when you spend $100 or more with your new card in the first 30 days"

    • Oh no, just saw the referral links. OMG :(

  • Time to sign up all my family….!

    • Yessss, wifeey…where are you?

  • Thanks, just signed up! I also noticed that the application process/interface is exactly the same with BOQ

    • +1
      • No wonder, their app is also exactly the same. Just different colours.

        • +1

          The app works well though.

      • Nope, only partly, it's joined between those also NAB's personal home loan / personal saving account got sold to Citi, so it's no longer one single bank business.

  • Absolute shitshow.

Logged into a device you don't normally use email.

Omg I just tried to signed up and signed in on the same device

    • +1

Just signed up now, it was a very smooth and pleasant experience.

Are you sure its not user error?

      • -2

Actually cause my phone is rooted.

Added it to magisk hide and the error went away.

        It's not an account lock

  • I hate Virgin Money and pretty much all Virgin products.

Every time they launch one it survives 1-2 years and then gets sold back to the provider, “sorry we’re closing this down”. Then there’s a new product.

I think I’ve been a customer 4 times over the past decade or two and it has happened with every one.

Use and abuse it if you can but if you’re looking for something that’ll last then go elsewhere.

    • +3

Use and abuse, no need to complain lol

  • I signed up no issues, access code received in less than 5mins. Husband still waiting for his access code after an hour. Anyone else with this issue?

    • Nope, amazing experience so far. I've even paid something with it.

  • Gotta say, this is too good to be true!

I just signed up and everything was very smooth, I'm all set and was able to transfer money in via PayID and paid for something with it using the virtual card, all under 10 minutes!

I also checked out the rewards, $100 coles gift card for 17955 points. If you get 8 points per $1 spend, that works out to a cash back of 4.456% assuming you value $1 Coles gift card as $1 AUD.

That's surely not gonna last! appears to be too good to be true!

    • +4

It is 8 points per transaction, not per dollar.

      • +1

I knew it, 8 points per $1 would be too good to be true, I wonder why they did it per transaction, this is a first.

What’s stopping me from paying my bills via Bpay in $1 increments then, or even $0.50 or $0.10 increments, apart from the time investment of course. Hmmm…..

        • +1

Because they will lock your access to points

          • @archiexyz: Fair enough. Too much effort for me anyways.

            • @techlead: I scheduled $1 payments to my super and HECS daily, they were not happy

              • @archiexyz: I think some share investment accounts have BPay. You could transfer say $5k in and out. Maybe that is high enough not to trigger alerts?
But yes they do have automated detection of gaming behaviour

              • @archiexyz: I can imagine haha. 8 points per transaction is pretty bad though. They really should do a per dollar rate, but I reckon, it might be too low for it to be palatable

    • Do u get a virtual card or physical card?

      • -1

Both. Virtual when I first signed up then a few weeks later the physical card.

    • Hi where did you find the virtual card? I can only add it to Google pay, but would be graat to use it on online purchase. Can't find it, help please?

      • I have the iOS app. You can find your card by going into the account, then clicking the three dots at the top right hand corner then select "Manage card" from the selection. Click on your Go account again and you will be presented with an "Add to Apple wallet" option.

Tap that and follow the prompts.

        • Yea OK, sorry I thought you meant you can view the card number/expiry and ccv and use it for online purchase.

edit: looks like with some merchants you can pay with google pay.. Guess I'm stupid for not knowing!

  • Where do I get my own referral code?

    • +3

Under Rewards (4th tab). Scroll down, for me the first offer is where you can click into and get your referral code.

      • Thanks so much, found it.

  • Does it matter what I spend the $100 on can I just buy a prepaid Visa/MasterCard from Coles?

    • From T&Cs in the description above:

Excludes direct debits and BPAY payments.

  • +2

There is no credit check or credit rating impact for this yeah? Cause it's a debit card?

    • correct

  • 8 points per transaction? Split payment 0.1AUD at WWS? Beem it? Will these work?

    • I think 8 points only applicable to some of their partner offers? Do we also earn points on all other purchases?

  • Where did you guys get your account username/number? I can't find anything, and I can't request it for some reason.

    • you talking about the referral ID? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12002052/redir
IIRC phone banking app just uses your mobile number as user ID and your access code as password

    • login with your mobile no.

      • I think I had the international app installed instead of the AU one.

  • Does paying water and internet bills consider 'direct debit' or 'bpay' payment?

    • +1

If you pay them via direct debit or bpay, they will be considered as those. If you pay them with the 16 digit card number, expiry and CVV then you will be making a debit card purchase which counts towards the $100 / accrues points.

      • Got it, thanks :) Another silly question - where can I find 16 digits numbers and CVV? I can't seem to find these details in the apps.

If I go 'Manage cards', I only can see the last 4 digits of my card but could not find 16 digits numbers nor CVV.

        • No idea sorry. I can't get in to the app since signing up yesterday, and I don't fancy a 2+ hour wait on hold

        • Pretty sure you need to wait for physical card to arrive unless you want to make a purchase using Apple Pay

        • I registered successfully. But in Manage card there's no card. Do you have to wait after registration for the card to appear?

          • @OrangeBJ: On my IOS Virgin Money app, I click ' Activate your card', then 'Go Account' under 'Manage cards', I could see a virtual debit visa card but this card is useless, need to add it to Apple Wallet in order to use it. If you don't see it on the first page, you also can access it through "Profile', and then 'Manage cards'.

As Jholiday mentioned, need a physical card (CVV+Exp date+16digits no) for online purchases. Not many websites have Apple Pay option.

Not sure if added into Google pay available for online purchases or not.

  • Has anyone got their rewards points? When do we get it? I've tried reading T's a Cs but can't find anything

    • +1

Simply spend $100 or more with your card in your first 30 days (purchases must settle) and BOOM! You'll receive our welcome bonus of 20,000 bonus points26

Wait for it to settle /not be 'pending'

  • +2

    Terrible! Waste of time!

    • App froze first time I used it
    • Wouldn't accept my SMS code
    • Locked me and advising me to ring them (people are saying it takes an hour or more to get through)
    • Sent me another 6 SMS codes
    • Not won't let me enter any SMS codes
    • +1

      Is your phone rooted?

    • Took us 45mins to get through when we tried last night to solve the access code not received issue. Just had the phone on speaker and ate dinner while waiting, so wasn’t too bad.

    • I use their app on Android every day, multiple times a day as I use it for my small business (as a personal account) and never have any issues.
Not sure what's happening with yours, I hope you've had better luck since posting this.

  • +1

"Offer expires on 12 May 2022"

But in t&cs it says 30/4

    Just fyi

  • +1

Well day 1 after signing up went well. I set up Apple Pay and it kept declining despite having funds in there and couldn't figure out why, so I did a Chat via the app. They replied 7 hours later. Turns out there was an outage with their 'debit card system' today, they gave me 1000 points as 'goodwill'. Maybe OzBargainers crashed their system.

I just paid $100 off my ZipPay account using Apple Pay. An easy 21,000 points!

    • How did you verify your card for Apple Pay?
