Is this a credit card or just a bank account? Seems like a good deal if its just a bank account and no credit check associated.

    • +1

Transaction account with no monthly fees

Is this Virgin Money points or Velocity points?

    • +3

      Virgin Money points.

      • How much are 20k Virgin Money points worth?

Edit: nvm just saw the updated post title

  • +3

Did this recently, then referred 2 friends, easy $150

    • Do the referred friends get joining bonus as well?

      • +2

Yup, they got 20k and I got 5k points

  • Does this work for both 'Go Account & Boost Saver' and 'Grow Saver'?

    • It's just the Go account. You get a online saver with the account too

      • Am I missing something here? The link takes me to a page where these are the only two options to choose from: ''Go Account & Boost Saver' and 'Grow Saver''. Is a 'Go account' different?

        • +2

Go Account & Boost Saver is transaction account and online savings account.

Grow saver is online savings account only which won't be eligible for the deal

          • +5

@spritz: Thanks. I'll open a 'Go Account & Boost Saver' account to get the bonus. Might want to update the post to make this clearer as it would be easy to choose the wrong one as the link takes you to a page with 2 choices.

  • how much can you get with the bonus points, $50 giftcards?

    • +3

Gift card conversion is better. Just over $100 worth of Amazon gift cards, depends on retailer

      • awesome thanks

      • +4

With 20,000 points I ordered a Woolworths $100 gift card and transferred the remaining points as $9 cash out before closing my account :) which is so easy to do in the app - you don't even have to call :).

            @Swiftz: Free $100 spend…?

          • +6

@Swiftz: Nice arithmetic skills. Did you finish school?

          • +1

@Swiftz: What the? No, you simply use your Virgin Money bank account, as you use your current bank account to buy essentials or whatever you like.
Do you have no intention of spending $100 in total within the next 30 days? If so, I'm not sure how you survive (AKA food).
You get free cash or a gift card just for using your Virgin Money transactions account, that simple.

Good account to use for Menulog payment: 2,000 Bonus Virgin Money Points (Worth $9-$10) on $25+ Spend at Menulog @ Virgin Money (App Required).

I think it's more like $10-$11 worth if I remember correctly.

does google pay spend count or do i need to wait for the card in the mail?

    • +2

      Wallet transactions do count

Two IDs are required. How can customers with only int passports sign up for this offer?

    • I just used DL

      • Don't have DL crying

        • Sorry meant to say that was the only form of ID Ineeded

        • Qld at least have an ID card you can get if you don't have a driver's license.

          • @Daabido: When financial institutions are asking for DL during the online sign-up process, I don’t think you can load an ID or proof of age card instead (correct me if I am wrong).

    • always happens with bank and ID verification for a friend of mine who is in a similar situation

    • +1

no, you can just verify with a passport. I just signed up, no issues with just my passport as verification.

      • oz passport or international passport?

  • Can you buy gift cards with Virgin money points? What will be the equivalent gift card value for 20k points ?

    • +2

Gift cards are the best value per point. $100 coles/amazon etc gift card is 17,955 pts

      • That's actually not bad. If its 8 points per $1 spend, that works out to a cashback rate of 4.456%. That's better than the HSBC card!

        • +1

It is 8 points per transaction.

          • @gamesnepal: Yes, Per transaction. I tested it, $0.01 Bpay counts as a transaction lmao At $0.01 per 8 points, the yield goes off the charts, but I don't have time to take advantage lol. Time poor unfortunately

            • @techlead: Who do I send the Bpay payments to?

            • +1

@techlead: I just scheduled a whole bunch of 1¢ BPay transactions so it’s automated, I wonder how many until they catch on and ban me.

                • @76F: Yea, no worth my time doing that.

              • +1

@glennm: I'm very sure they will pull you up for that, no gonna waste my time trying that. I"m happy with the initial $100 or so from the points.

              • @glennm: Hope they banned your ass.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you

                • @payton: Like most people on this post, I plan to close the account once I get my $100. How are they feeding me exactly?

                  • @glennm:

                    once I get my $100
                    .
How are they feeding me exactly?

                    free $100. derp.

  • +1

thanks did one for mum and dad, already claimed mine from last months deal

  • Similar to last deal but this getting much more upvotes. Very good deal.

  • +2

yup confirm this is legit. got mine 20k points converted to $100 coles giftcard. then used to top up my opal at coles which give me $10 back (spend $100 get 2000 flybuys)

  • Can you only access your banking via the app?

    • Yes. App only, there is no browser based Internet Banking.

      • How ridiculous, and the app having terrible ratings combined with the stories of hold times on the phone are the icing on the turd cake.

        • +1

There are lots of bugs with the app. They should have a look at the user experience that Up provides.

  • +7

Those 5 security questions were a bit overkill…

  • If you sign up now, do you get a referral code straight away to sign up others?

    • Yes, you do.

      • Where can you find the referral link, I looked at my emails and in the app?

        • In the app, click on Rewards icon (the little shopfront), then there is a tile for "Earn 5000 bonus points by referring a friend". Click on that.
Under the title it says your code is XXXXXX.
          (Note: instructions from Android app)

          • @gtrain: I haven't received any bonus points after referring multiple family members. Has anyone received their 5000 points yet?

            • @rguan: Yes, today, a random referral.

            • @rguan: Yes, I have. It only happens after they've made the deposit and spend. Within a few days after that.

  • +3

would be interesting to see whether Revolut counts as a purchase lol

    • Can you actually do that before you receive physical card?
It seems nowhere in the app you can view the full card number.

      • +1

You can't view the card details in the app, but you can add to Apple pay and make a transfer to Revolut using Apple pay :) Not sure if you can do the same with GogglePay

        • How do you do the transfer to Revolut using Apple Pay? Revolut just has my bank account?

          • +3

@JHoliday: When I click the 'Add money' button in the Revolut app, under the box where you enter the dollar amount there is the payment method and a 'change button'. So I think you should be able to choose Apple Pay as an option there, and pay that way.

        • +1

Thanks. Confirmed you can do it with Google Pay. Will see if I get points.

    • +2

it does :) I only did a single transaction of $100 with revolut

      • Just did that cheers!

How long till the bonus pts show?

        • Did you successfully top up Revolut using Apple Pay? I keep getting error message.

          • @me1stt: Yeh, I followed the steps in the comment above. Just change your default card in Apple Wallet to Virgin Go and it should work

Now I just dunno how long the bonus pts take

            • +2

@BargainsGrabber: From memory you'll need to wait until the transaction clears, then the bonus points should appear within a day or so. I opened my account on a Sunday and was able to cash out the bonus points on Thursday. Good luck ! :)

  • +2

Unknown error at step 7 when hitting submit. After a few tries it worked, thanks OP

    • I am also getting same error, did you try some other way to get it work ?

      • +1

No, just waited for error. Then hit submit again. Took maybe 4 tries hitting submit

  • +2

What about Beemit transaction? Is it counted as spend?

    • Love to know this too

    • Card doesn't have EFTPOS so can't transfer between cards on BeemIt

      • Revolut transaction worked.

  • signed up 40 mins ago, still yet to receive the temporary access code via sms. does anyone know how long it takes?

    • Couple minutes for me. Came from same phone number as the verify phone. Make sure it's not hidden in those text messages

    • +1

I got my temporary access code straight away but don't know my customer ID

      • +2

I wasn't asked for. Just my mobile, then temp code. Sure you have the Aussie version of app?

        • +2

          I wasn't thanks very much :)

  • +9

I locked my account by mistake and had to call them to unlock it. Over 1+ hr and counting to get to speak to somebody…wouldn't trust my money with this purely based on this experience

    • -1

Just signed up and tried to login to the app now my account is locked?

      • +1

Ditto. On hold for 75 minutes so far.

        • -2

gets worst, call got disconnected after about 90 minutes. 100% non trustable as a bank!

          • @zooter: Yep, 90 minutes - got disconnected.

    • +1

Shoulda cleared the data in the app. That fixes this.

Got the same thing. But reset the app and logged in.

    • Same BUT it only took ~1 minute on hold calling at 9.01am. I entered the code carefully on the second two attempts so I think it was a problem on their end but idk, maybe my fingers are getting too fat.

  • -5

Can you make more than 1 account under the same name? different number, email etc.

    • It’s linked to your ID.

    • And you can't invite the same family member or friend twice if they are already signed up.

    • @kehuehue, you know that you are opening a legimate bank account, right?

      • Yeah idk had a brain fart. Thought i could use passport for verification and then DL smh lol

  • +5

Easy to sign up, worked perfectly.
Not sure why people are getting locked out, possibly because you get 2 codes sent through on signup, a verification code and a temporary access code, both 6 digits, may have put the wrong one in?

    • When accessing the app and going to “Existing Customers” -> Entering Phone Number and then clicking next it asks for a verification code sent to the phone number not a temporary access code.

      • Yes, they send you through a verification code via sms after you download the app and put in your mobile number.
Put that in then you input the temporary access code on the next screen.
