Is there a reason Gigabyte does 2x HDMI, 2x DisplayPort instead of 1x HDMI, 3x DisplayPort like everyone else?

  • +1

    Worth the extra over 5500?

    • -6

Definitely. 5500 is zen 2 versus 5600 being zen 3.

    • +4

5500 is based off the APU designs, which means it has half the cache of the 5600.

    • they're all pretty ass according to kliksphillip unless you're rendering

    • +4

Yes, 5500 has half the cache of the 5600, 5600 is basically a 5600X with a slight slower base and boost clock.

    • +1

5500 = 5600g APU disabled with lower cache

  • How reliable is Shopping Express?

    • +4

If your item is in good working condition, its fine but don't expect a top-notch after sales services when you have RMA issues.

But if you really need to get it from SE, perhaps pay with Paypal for a bit of protection or via eBay channel.

    • +3

I had good experience in terms of shipping speed and packaging. Don't know about customer service

      • +1

And that's what I said, I used to have good experience, when the item is in good working condition its all good. But, I had recent issues with purchase and I had to go through hoops and loops to get it sorted, took me a month to get my money back.

  • +1

Worth the $48 saving over the 5600x?

    • +3

Absolutely yes. If you're going 5600X then may as well go 5700X.

    • Lol nice edit.

      I got 5600x for $288

    • Yes definitely.

  • +4

Also the 5900x for $540.00 which seems like one of the best if not the best ever. Should be its own post but can't be bothered.

    • Hi sdfg… sorry to digress but I could no longer post in the other post about dishwasher. Can you advise how you went with the miele g5210 dishwasher? Any power button issue and wash and drying is good? So far no problems?

      • Haha, yes no issues so far. Very happy with it, although I'm sure I would've been happy with a different brand as well. It all depends on your budget and expectations.

  • I have an Intel Core i5-4460. It's obviously pretty old. Wanting to upgrade pretty badly.

I imagine I need a new motherboard for this CPU or the 5900x… would I need much else? Maybe a new power supply?

    • +4

      and DDR4 memory.

    • +3

yes you'll need a new motherboard & RAM, Intel and AMD don't use the same physical CPU design/socket.

Depends on what PSU you have already and how old it is. I've also got an i5 from that generation too, which I'm looking to upgrade as well, but i've already upgraded my PSU, due to it dying earlier in the year.

      • Thanks for this!

      • Intel struggles to keep the same socket after two years lol

    • +4

You will need a motherboard (cheap B450/B550) and a DDR4 kit (3200 is fine). You can get these parts for dirt cheap nowadays. Your PSU will likely be fine because the 5900X is a fairly power efficient CPU. One thing to note whoever is that the 5900X does not come with a cooler so you will have to buy a new CPU cooler or you could get a lower end CPU like this one which comes with a basic cooler.

      • Thanks for the information! CPU coolers are fairly cheap from what I know.

    • +3

Pretty much a new build at this point. The PSU would have to be at least 7-8 yrs old by now and the capacitors will fail eventually especially with the current and voltage requirements of higher specced CPUs.

Start noting down and collecting parts for a new build as OzB has been putting out some decent PSU + Case Combos posts recently. Mobo will need some research and I suggest watching a channel on YouTube called PC Builder as he goes into great detail and easily digestible.

    • MSI 850w 80+ gold multi-rail psu is on sale atm https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/WxZzK8/msi-mpg-a-gf-850-…
psu tier list for your consideration: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40/
if you're going for the next gen graphics cards you might want a bigger PSU.

    • I went from i7 4790 to 5600 recently and i can finally play warzone and apex without stutter and it feels amazing, i managed to build this system for a bit over $800 (keeping my 1070ti while i hunt for a 3060ti deal) https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/670909571405185043/… (amazon warehouse saved me a fair bit on the mobo and case)

Oh but the best thing is how quiet it is compared to my old one, I can barely hear it running most of the time

      • I had that i7 chip and its now running our home server. I bet it longs for the good old days of gaming however.

  • Much gaming improvement over the 3600 I currently have? Any smarter option for gaming, or is this about the best I can do on AM4?

    • +2

What res do you game at and what GPU? If you've got something like a 3080 and/or want high FPS then it's probably worth an upgrade. I've also heard of people talk about just general latency improvements moving up to Zen 3 (i.e. Windows feels snappier) but I've never seen an article about it.

5800X3D is the chip aimed directly at gaming, not so good at any other tasks and can't be overclocked though. But the massive cache helps in games. But if you're running a 3070 or lower it's probably not worth it, hold off until AM5 comes out.

      • Thanks. Got a 3070 at the moment on a 1440p display. Not really desperate for an upgrade but was wondering if things would improve much with a better CPU.

        • +2

IMO: unless you play CPU-bound games that struggle on Zen 2 (I can only think of League of Legends), probably not worth.

    • About 20% uplift, I think if your gpu is up for it.

5800X3D is technically the best you can get on AM4, if the rest of your rig at relatively robust. I think this would be a decent jump again, but I think this is closer to $650.

    • +2

I went from a 3600 to a 5700X at 1440p. I see anywhere from 25-60fps increase - depending on the game. Windows 11 feels much smoother too. Definitely worthwhile at that price.

  • Is this a better buy compared to i3 or i5? The i3 can be had $280, this build with b450m for $355, i5 for $390.

    • +1

I think the best price and upgrade path at the moment is 12 gen Intel on the DDR4 platform. You'll have an affordable system with at least 1 upgrade to 13th gen CPUs once released.

If you're willing to pay for DDR5 ram then you might as well wait and see what Zen4 and AM5 have to offer later this year.

      • Is there any benefit of ddr5 ram to average consumers and video editors?

        • Results are mixed accross different workloads. Faster but at a pretty large cost.

          But Zen4 maybe different.

      • I always wondered who the heck upgrades their CPU every generation? Or do you wait until the next generation (13 in this case) is dirt cheap? By that point won't you already want to get a new CPU which will use another chipset?

        • I get the logic. I started with a haswell i5 build years ago, and bought an xeon 1270v3 for 90 bucks when that proved to be not enough. Since then, I had been happy with it until Minecraft 1.8 and elden ring. Not only did that Xeon saved me from spending 90 bucks on the motherboard, it allowed me to skip the 8th and 10th gen.

        • I wouldn't, but a reasonable strategy for someone might be to buy low end cpu with a decent motherboard and ram as it fits their budget, and upgrade to a better cpu later when they have the cash. If it can be an even better one because of a new a generation of CPUs is compatible, even better.

  • Thanks. Upgrading from 1600 to 5600, felt it was a good choice since next gen will be incompatible with my AM4 and I can't be bothered doing another full-scale PC upgrade.

For reference, my postage was $12.5 (Melb suburbs)

  • Finally experiencing CPU bottleneck after upgrading to a 3080, we might as well 'hodl' for CPUs too now. ;)

I do like the bargain, but imma also wait for the other 3D versions to come out, crush the dollar:cpu ratio in the range, then grab one for under 200. Maybe.

I'm only aiming to achieve 144 fps for 1440p so I won't really care about the next generation of new hotness unless their economy model can do that for less. YMMV.

    • There are no other X3D versions coming

      • Well, apart from the next generation

        • Apparently, there’s another generation coming after that one, too.

  • Damn it. Went to submit and you've edited in extras lol

  • The 5700X is a great chip. Bought it recently from PLE for $419 - so this is a great price. I went from 3600 to a 5700X and have seen an increase from 25-75 or more fps increase at 1440p. One example is Battlefield 2042 where I went from about 120fps on ultra to 150-160fps with a 6800XT. Definitely a great chip. Stays cool and runs at 4.7ghz easily with PBO. I have noticed a more snappier and smooth Windows experience too. Very happy with the performance of it - matches the 5800X when PBO enabled and it self overclocks.

    • that seems like a huge jump. esp for 1440p

    • What are your PBO settings for the 5700X?

  • +1

    Auugh I bought my 5600 for 285.

    • Same, share your pain. I purchased mine 3 days ago.
Reckon its still worth it over the 5600x at $310?, which it was at time I purchased the 5600.

      • Ah the 5600x was jacked up to 335 when I bought the 5600

  • was looking for 5600 too, centre com has it in stock in some places

    https://www.centrecom.com.au/amd-ryzen-5-5600-6c12t-unlocked…

  • Thanks. Purchased 5700x

    • At $140 more.. is the 5700x worth it over the 5600.. I'm not sure what to get

      • +2

        Can't answer your question, but I went from a 1700 to a 3700x now 5700x. I guess I like my *700 series :)

      • +1

for 98% of home users who just browse and game, no.

        • Got myself the 5700X … it will be the last time i upgrade the CPU for at least 3+ years.. a new GPU within that time should last me until Zen5 comes out

  • 5600 vs 5600X? Is the price to performance worth the upgrade for a new system?

    • 5600 vs 5600X? 1-2% performance difference
Is the price to performance worth the upgrade for a new system? not sure what you mean, they are same generation just need to swap processor.

    • The 5600 could be a newer revision chip that may run cooler.. use less power and be able to handle a faster infinity fabric speed

  • +1

    5600 vs 5600X are the same thing…

According to Gamers Nexus.. Your paying extra money for a letter.. nothing more.

Is the i5-12600kf + msi mortar b660m wifi bundle better value? Down to $539

  • with these low prices is it better to just go amd for new builders?

  • Need some advice, what do you guys think about this combo deal? Is it a good deal?

    i5-12600K + MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4

    • its a nice looking motherboard + specs. just check prices elsewhere to make sure the motherboard isn't cheaper somewhere else by buying individually

      static ice helps

Centercom inst on static ice so check separately.

  • can anyone recommend an atx mobo for 5700x

  • Thanks OP. Bought a 5600 + B450M mortar max for $351 including delivery.

    • didn't want the B550 for PCI 4.0?

      • +2

I did consider it and this video sway me to B450M
        https://youtu.be/BUBhGSZEaQg
For the same Mortar board the B450M is cheaper by $50-60. I don't have 2.5GB LAN. Only minor differences between PCI 4 and 3 in gaming. Most cheaper M2 SSD are still PCI 3. So the savings on the board can be put for a better GPU.

  • I'm hearing so many bad things about Shopping Express' returns process that I'm going to hold off for now.

Product Review is full of people bemoaning the lack of customer service from this store.

    • Ive spent around $30,000 with them over 10 years.. got heaps of office work PCs and upgrade parts… had zero issues with returns and warranties.. worst thing to happen was i had to wait a few days for a reply.. they even sent me a new PC case when the one i ordered was damaged during postage

Their postage is one of the fastest out of the Sydney PC stores.. 1 to 3 days is the norm .. if i need something asap i order from them

Just from my point of view…

  • +1

Picked up the 5600, great value for money

    • Great price for a chip that runs at around 60w and can be used on any AM4 motherboard

  • 3-4 day wait on the Ryzen 5600.. looks like both the 5600 and 5700x have sold out on ebay 15-17% off sale and they are sold out waiting more stock at shopping express… well the 5600 has anyways

The 5700X i ordered has shipped already but the 5600+Motherboard are waiting more stock

    • Was the 5700x cheaper via ebay? Can't see the price now that it's sold out.

      • Well it was sold out as soon as the sale started.. either they removed all stock for those two products or they sold out within a few hours… my guess is they were removed because the sellers non ebay stores (their own direct websites) still have stock of those two…. watch them magically repear in the ebay listing then the sale ends..
