REDMI10

Low price on this popular Redmi phone and beats the recent Amazon UK deal as this is the better 8GB RAM variant for a lower price.

This is the official Global Version and in my opinion it's the perfect phone to get if you want good hardware and features for a low price. The AMOLED display is bright at 1200nits, Snapdragon 732G offers good performance, the large 5020mAh battery lasts a long time, there's Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD, NFC and 108MP camera products pretty good photos - especially when the Google Cam mod is used.

Featuring MIUI 12 (Android 11, OTA to MIUI 13 / Android 12), 6.67 AMOLED 2400x1080 120Hz Display with Gorilla Glass 5, 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128GB UFS 2.2 Storage, Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G Octa-Core CPU, Adreno 618 GPU, Widevine L1 for HD Netflix/Amazon, NFC, IP53 water resistance, 108MP+8MP+5MP+2MP rear camera, 16MP front camera, Dual SIM, 3.5mm audio and a 5020mAh battery with 33W USB-C fast charging.

Running the same processor on my Poco X3 NFC.
Been running well past 2 years no problem

    • Yup, I ended up the x3 for size reasons, otherwise the note is slightly better phone.

Is this the one where you can have 2 sim cards and one sd card in it at the same time?

    • +16

Yep triple slot. SIM + SIM + MicroSD.

  • From memory the Redmi Note 8 Pro is still quite good and not really an upgrade with this one?

Not sure where you're getting your specs from. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is inferior to the Note 10 Pro in both as well as most other factors.

          Note 8P vs Note 10P:

          • 4500mAh vs 5020mAh
          • Mediatek G90T vs Snapdragon 732G (AnTuTu 279355 vs 295442, GB 1622 vs 1780, 12nm vs 8nm)
          • 60Hz LCD vs 120Hz AMOLED
          • 64MP 1/1.72" vs 108MP 1/1.52" main cam

Looking for a replacement of my V30+, still no alternative found. Wireless Charging, IP68 and Optical Stabilizer ……

          • @cameldownunder: Hey same, V30+ gang rep.

            • @Skinnerr: aside from this xiaomi not having wireless charging or ip68 (and larger size), would be any worse than v30+? because it's proving hard to find something other than say a US-model LG g8 (with the quad DAC intact), which is similarly compact like the v30+?

              • @mtrkr: I went from v30 to the velvet, just because it was the last LG phone available. I like having wireless charging, ip68 and all the other things you'd expect from a high end phone yet at a fraction of the price. My LG phones seem to last forever too.

                • @Yeahyeahok: Im thinking of doing this - https://www.screenfixed.com.au/repairs/lg-v30-plus-battery-r…

Any thoughts on replacing the battery?

                  • @Skinnerr: V30 was a great phone but bit outdated now. The camera was a let down even when using the gcam downloads for it. Velvet is good but it's on the bigger side, can be picked up really cheap for what it is

                    • +1

@Yeahyeahok: Ehh it does everything I need, except for its battery life. Plus the quad DAC with my array of wired headphones is the cream on top of this best 'phone' ive ever used.

I almost feel obligated to email LG and write an impassioned plea to implore them to reconsider making phones again!

                    • @Yeahyeahok: I got my partner the V30+ she loves it, been the longest phone she's used, but im starting to look at replacement for when the time comes, was looking at the Velvet or the V60, how is the battery life on the Velvet?

                      • @binary101: Battery life is good, only thing is this phone is massive in size. It's very thin but the screen is huge. I've had zero issues with it performance wise.

                • @Yeahyeahok: yes, the LG phones are pretty well made - still have a v20, used as a good sounding DAP. The problem with LG's velvet is that LG removed the quad DAC, so won't sound as good as the v30 (or v20 for that matter)…

Hey, I always wanted to purchase this phone, but I am just worried about security part of using Xiaomi phones. Are you aware of any solutions?

    • +20

      Doesn't Google collect data though?

        • +9

Don't understand what you saying. Obviously with this phone, you can choose not to register/login a mi account, but do you have option not using gmail/android play without a google account ? I could not see any risks from xiaomi, but google does collect your data.
Furthermore UK and EU's carriers do sell Xiaomi

        • +4

Are you specifically saying that Google or Facebook collecting data is fine? But Xiao mi is not fine?

          • -2

@astarman: No. I am saying the level of the data collection, terms and condition of how they use collected data is different.

          • +1

@astarman: Wait what we are saying here is that…we all know our data is being collected but we can't be choosy about it… If we don't like ccp collecting our data we are some how silly for preferring google or facecrak with collecting our data?

I'm in no one's camp (I have xiaomi band with Google link for instance) but some may be ok with Chinese companies having your data and some may be ok with murican ones…

I don't think anyone here is under any illusions that either way someone is doing this… Preference of one or the other doesn't mean someone can't voice a concern of one over the other… 🙂

            • +2

@scud70: The only real risk of Xiaomi is that if the CCP actually do need data from you, Xiaomi will likely let them walk right in and take it. That's the real risk of companies based within their jurisdiction.

They all collect the same amount of data but most of them cbf with most of em tbh. So unless you're some high level diplomat or are related/are in regular contact to one, not really a risk for yourself 🤔 at least not the extent it was being painted

              • -1

@confidantduk: Yep completely get that, but Jo blo is ok to ask is this going to be collected by ccp or muricans or whatever… No one should feel they need to defend one over the other.. Just my view..

            • @scud70: There are choices but people shouldn't be blinded into thinking Chinese companies are collecting more data than an American one.
Or how the company uses the data

              That's just being delusional lol

          • +2

@astarman: you have no choice with google collecting data, it’s part of the android license, even with gps turned off they are allowed to collect tower data ……. but you do have a choice if you want the extras from xiaomi, samsung, etc ….facebook …..you have the choice not to use facebook ……but android …..google own it and collect data if you aren’t happy go apple.

chinese govt is less likely to sell your data than google or facebook …. and they probably aren’t that interested in the boring stuff you do ……

    • +1

Here we go again … Xi, blabla, CCP blabala …

    • +2

Not related to Xiaomi (don't be distracted by blackmailing China). 'mericans are much "better": Google, Apple-yeas they are doing secretly, FB, Amazon, Tesla (if you are rich or have Twitter),etc, know all about you, finances, communication, behavior…because it's done via the apps & can be requested any time by AFP/CIA.
If you are famous like German chancellor Angela Merkel or suspect, they can wiretap your communication.

    • what security, the commie stealing your government's intel? through you?
Install the miui EU ROM once you get bootloader unlocked

    • We literally have an anti-encryption bill here and are part of the 5 eyes. Find a solution for that first.

    • +3

Google 'xiaomi debloater'. It's a Windows app that you install, connect your phone via usb, and then can uninstall all the xiaomi bloat / apps that you don't need or want. Because it's done via usb/adb, you can uninstall system packages that you normally can't uninstall via Android.

People have made lists of what is safe to remove, and what apps are known for tracking (again, Google for an up to date list).

Works for most xiaomi phones. Hope this helps.

  • Does anyone know if Xiaomi resolved issues with its virtual proximity sensor? I bought this device at launch for about the same price, but sold it a month later because I could not cope with the sensor: the phone was turning on itself in the pocket, and the screen unlocked during the call, causing my cheek to press various on screen buttons.
Other than that, it was an excellent phone, I really loved it.

    • +2

      @Crimzic
I do not have that issue on mine BUT it can not be fixed with software updates it is a hardware issue.
I have heard that Xiaomi are using sensors from a different company now.

  • Does payment in USD affect anything? Like will I get an extra charge if I use PayPal or my bank card?

    • +1

Better to use your credit card and let your bank convert, rather than PayPal who have high x-rates

      • Thanks. No idea what it cost till the transaction shows up 😂

    • Depends on your card.

Chances are yes, you will get charged a currency conversion fee.

      • did you get covid-19?

      • Looks like it cost me $381.xx

    • the only good thing with Paypal is it has a few extra features if things go wrong, I guess, but some cards have them too. Always check what, if any, conversion fees your card has as well

  • Upgraded to MIUI 12 for my Note 7 and it's been a worse experience. Cannot easily split screen, apps close when the phone gets too warm. Cannot use split screen while using screen gestures.

Think if you want a better user experience, would have to load a new ROM.

  • +3

Xiaomi don't resolve the issues they create as I have posted b4 the MIUI 13 android 12 update stuffed my note 10 pro I've sent emails to Xiaomi support and on all forums and no bloody help or reply to anything 6 month old phone that was perfect b4 there s''::'t miui update Don't DO IT .

    • +4

I've had mine similar time to you and have found MIUI13 has created some performance issues. Frustrating!

I'm wondering whether a factory reset will take it back to MIUI12? That could solve the problems you're having.

      • +1

A factory reset will not downgrade your firmware.

        • +3

Can just reflash an older version.

    • +3

MIUI 13 broke my RN10P so I got rid of it. That's the issue with Xiaomi/MIUI, great hardware, average software & you could be left months with a buggy/broken device. My RN10P would overheat and shut down using GPS after about 10mins, when it was 20deg. On MIUI 12, no issues even when it was 35deg. Flashing a custom ROM rectified the issue but that shouldn't be required.

      • Thank sinners007 I've been looking around for a down grade for this but there's nothing definite that I can find Xiaomi and the MIUI is a massive problem &the internet forums are full of these issues after the s:::t updates .

  • @spock
What issues and what ROM are you on?
I have the global ROM and no major issues

    • Might be better to directly reply to @spock instead of this thread itself. Or send him a DM

    • Miui 13.0.8.0 now but it was the 13 update that had the android 12 in it think it was 13.7.5 . Major issues cannot send or receive MMS , volume issues, camera ,poor battery life non of this was a problem before miui 13.

      • @spok
Miui 13 on redmi note 10 Pro goes only to 13.0.4 AFAIK
Not sure where you got 13.0.8 from.

  • +3

Load pixel experience on this and you have a banger of a deal.

    • yes, good idea and also the note 11 pro is just $10 bucks extra.

      • +3

Hi which one is it the note 11 pro? can you share the link? I tried searching for it but couldnt find it. thanks

        • +1

I assume it's the redmi note 11 pro 4G … but have to apply the discount code to make it 10 usd bucks cheaper.
Not sure I would compromise that vs.5G version.

      • +2

The Lineage OS site gives you step by step instructions it's pretty straight forward.

        • Thank you.

For reference, here are some other alternative phones at this price range, I think with these deals they are slightly cheaper.

Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696597 - Gain 5G, but worse camera, best processor out of these three. Difference in screen (lower refresh rate, but higher colour-depth and contrast, bear in mind higher refresh rate affects battery life).

Poco X4 Pro 5G - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/693089 - Gain 5G, similar camera, slightly better processor, better screen touch refresh rate. From what I can tell, this phone is kind of like a Poco equivalent of the Note 10 Pro. Both made by Xiaomi.

It can come down to personal opinion, they all look like good phones to me at this price. Personally, I picked the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE, but if you care a lot about photo quality, def go with one of the other two. I think they have one of the best, if not the best camera at this price range, with the next step/price point up being Google Pixels.
