Hi All,

I have got my Sony X90J 65" TV via the education store offer last month and really happy with it.

Just spotted Amazon is having a promotion on the 65" only and the price was reduced to $1,759.99 thus would like to share it. Hope they have enough stock for anyone who is interested.

PS Please don't forget CB (Home Entertainment 4%) for Amazon AU at CW/SB and utilising the Amazon discounted GC

    75“ price won't drop ☹️

    • Successful price match at Sony online store last month for $2.5k less $30 for subscribing to newsletter.

    • Reply I am after a 75 inch

    • +1

that 75" deal for $1979 (+$36 cashback) was crazy

    • I got my 75 inch x90j for $1899 from Sony ebay factory seconds with a 5% off coupon. Delivery pretty quick by DHL.

      TV was Brand New!!
They must of been clearing old stock to make way for 2022 models or something.
Virtually zero DSE too, this is a great panel, super stoked. It's replacing a 58inch Aldi Bauhn QLED. And this is much much brighter.

VRR with ps5 is nice too, however does disable local dimming, but can be remedied by putting the black level setting to high.

    • I ve got 75 one new in box in Melbourne just sitting there. Going with the delayed frame TV instead.

      • Thinking of selling? I want one!

  • How does this compare to say the LG C1?

Also, I have a PS5. Is the VRR compatible with this TV?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +2

The LG C1 is an OLED, much better panel. Not really an apples for apples comparison.

    • There are reports that local dimming is turned off if you enable VRR which will substantially hurt this TV's picture quality.

      • This is correct.

        • After the latest fw update (v6.5770 AP) when yours goes in to game mode can you change the picture mode? to standard or vivid. I'ts stuck on game with vrr support and it's darker…This would be the local dimming issue?

          Thanks

After the recent Sony e-store education sale of $1495 for this TV, I am not willing to pay anymore over that price for this TV.

    • +5

      I see

    • The Edu sale was rare as hens teeth… Not the norm. Just wait another 12months for the sale on the 2022 version in 2023..

Only 1y warranty on these, which shouldn't be an issue if Sony had good quality control … but I suggest doing your research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwlRfdOyLqs

      ACL so warranty doesn't matter

      • Warranty does matter, ACL is useless when Sony will only offer you a 30% discount to buy next years TV model, as they either have no stock, or refuse to honor ACL after 2yrs.

Also, they seem to stop carrying parts for older models, probably on purpose and I bet supply chain issues will make this worse.

Dont take my word for it though, Google it, I've been researching this TV for weeks, I found countless posts about Sony and consumer law and their bullshit 'upsell' tactics for all the people who had their TV die at around the 2y mark, did not find any stories of anyone who refused the 30% upsell offer upon failure and actually got anywhere.

        • +3

ACL is literally the law. Just because they offer it doesn't mean you need to accept it. I've had TVs replaced after 5yrs with very little work, they always try to get around it but state the law and they then accept it knowing if they don't the fine they will receive it greater

          • +1

@DoesntEvenMatter: There are countless threads of people 'stating ACL to Sony' and getting email responses offering 30% discount on a new TV and stating spare parts were not available for older models after 2 years. Not sure what else to tell you. DYOR.

@OzByte: Lodge a case with fair trading?

I recently had MS deny my refund request for digitally purchased BF2042.

Game was not working as advertised. Launch server issues and game was essentially a steaming pile of horse manure.

Lodged a case with fair trading. Got refund in a week.

I am not saying fair trading will work in your case, but worth trying.

ACL is the law. That beats 'something you read on the internet'…

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: im curious about this. how did you go about claiming a warranty? did you go to the reseller that you bought it from, or the supplier direct (lg sony etc) what type of warranty does say a $3500 tv have, who/how do you determine the life of a tv, comparative to the cost of it? genuinely interested in case my tv shits itself

            • +1

@Crown3d: I went through the supplier, one time they game me a credit to the store I bought it from another they sent me out their new current model after 5 or 6 years. Read up the ACL TV product guide to determine its value and expected life expectancy

    • Mine (65") sometimes just wont turn on the "tuner/AV" system - the GOOGLE part is on, but cannot see/hear anything on the channels or on the HDMI inputs.
Netflix/etc works….. but needs full reboot or power out and on again to get anything on the HDMI.

Problem is that its so random, how would I get SONY to agree that there is a problem? say 2 times in 20x turn on.
Been this way since new - bought last Nov.

      • First is let them know. Might be a known issue and will send you a file to update with or send out a tech and then try and get it on video. Once you have that can start a repair or replace claim. The thing with your system is that it could be the amp and not the TV that's the issue. Is it eARC compatible

        • I guess so….just didn't think they would care on a "random" issue…..however - good point, could be a known quirk/bug.
The Amp is eARC - Denon X1600h……could be another bad HDMI cable - replaced them all on install of TV in Nov. (Amazon various types around $20).

However you're right about letting them know I think.

Just odd that the TV is on - but its not - only the smarts (Google) and so randomly - just odd.
I'll give them a heads up and see.

This is the Samsung Q80A ?

    • No, this is the Sony x90j.

      • apologies i mistyped. I was making comparisons between this Sony and the Samsung Q80A in overall performance. So I was actually asking "This or the Samsung Q80A?".

        • +1

easily the X90J imo if the prices are the same

          • @daemon: any reasons please? My use will be in brightly lit living room, most of the time will be sports, movies, TV shows or casting from a laptop.

            • +2

@jianh: The 80A in that size I believe is a ADS panel while the x90j is a VA panel and would be the brighter screen you'd want in that room

      • Have a x90j in a bright room, it casts a lot of reflections and I have to crank up the brightness and gamma otherwise it's too dark playing non hdr content. Almost the same as the vivid preset.

Had an older samsung UHD previously which did not have this issue.

I've always bought samsung but thought I'd give sony a go on the x90j as the price was really good for the tv. It's pretty good for the $ but like everyone else says sony's software is still not there. The TV in general been pretty stable but I don't use any google or streaming.

Sonys australian customer support is very, very average which seems to be outsourced to the usual place where monkeys read from scripts/ login to your tv then never call you back…And other crap like asking for a video of the TV exhibiting a problem then apologising they can't receive emails larger than 2MB, wtf! :-) etc.

    • Dude, how did you get samsung and q80a from this post ?

      • I mistyped. I was actually asking "This or the Samsung Q80A?"

        • Sorry I thought you were joking around or … :-)
