    $15 Amex cashback (targeted)

    All microwaves need to be:
    1. Physical buttons, not touch
    2. Not wifi killers
    3. Instant start (ie. one button press)

Finding this info is too hard which is exactly why i haven't bought a replacement yet.

    • What do you have currently?

      • +1

Some old POS which is ok in all these regards but is a bit small, has a broken light and needs the door whacked hard when closed or it won't start.

But that's better than paying $ for a new microwave with an annoying design.

        • Im using some +15 year old Panasonic job I got from the Salvos that I'm using till it breaks. How's that for cheap lol.

I have this. It kills wifi, you have to google how to turn the sound off because it plays a tune at 300db when it finishes cooking and has 30 second instant start increments.

    • I have the bigger version. tbh, I'm not a fan, but I also don't really care that much about a microwave so whatever.

      1. All touch. Including a slider control to change the time which seems kinda nifty at first but is actually kind of annoying
      2. Kills the hell out of my wifi. Like, there is a unifi access point on the other side of the room, and this thing nukes the connection to the google home in between them. Never had that issue with my Sharp.
      3. Yep, instant 30 seconds button

I'd also note that it attracts fingerprints like crazy, the preset reheat/defrost/etc options are so far out of whack, and the jaunty little tune it plays instead the the standard beep wears thin pretty fast. It also seems less powerful than my previous Sharp, but that could be because it's trying not to burn the hell out of everything.

On the plus side: it looks pretty slick, the turntable is stable and easy to remove/clean, the interior is easy to wipe out (some kind of coating) and it doesnt seem to generate much heat.

      • Hmmm… interesting. I had never considered that my Neochef could be the reason I've had so many issues with my 2.4ghz wifi

        • +1

Try and change your wifi channel. My NeoChef puts out interference on channel 3 upwards so I changed it to channel 1.

    • +4

      5GHz wifi is not affected.
2.4GHz wifi can be affected if you're on the same channels as the interference. You can try changing channels (1, 6, 11) to see if it helps.

    • Also CBA Awards, $20 back when spend $100. Most likely targeted also.

Whats an inverter and why do ppl microwave it?

    • +1

It can vary the amount of power. Think analogue output rather than digital.

    • why do ppl microwave it

      Because it tastes good?

The Breville the Quick Touch Crisp Microwave is still available from the good guys from this deal for $214-

Probably a better deal for most people if it is still in stock at your local store.

Have had mine in regular home use for 3 years, no complaints.

We love the tune. I have no idea why it makes people so mad.

      • +1

I find the tune fine. What annoys me is how it keeps repeating every 30 or 60 seconds. It's like the electronic version of "are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet?" :)

        • That's pretty normal for microwaves though - so you don't forget food in the microwave and it goes gross.

          • +1

            @theguyrules:

That's pretty normal for microwaves though

The Sharp microwave in the office doesn't do it, and neither did my old Panasonic.

so you don't forget food in the microwave and it goes gross.

I dunno about others, but I only microwave food when I'm hungry. If I'm hungry I won't forget about the food I'm heating up because I'm hungry and I want to eat it. :)

At least give an option to disable the repeats.

Never microwaved food when drunk and then passed out, only to find it the next morning?

The Sharp microwave in the office doesn't do it, and neither did my old Panasonic.

Well I suppose you've ben lucky then. I do wish that things with alerts/sounds would let you customise them.

              • @theguyrules:

Haha, can't say I have! I imagine if I'm passed out I wouldn't hear the tune anyway.

I do wish that things with alerts/sounds would let you customise them.

Yeah, they already use an obscure key combo to disable the tunes. They could just add another obscure key combo to disable the repeats.

                • @eug: Also note that the reminder is to ensure that you don't leave food that's heated and steaming in the microwave to accelerate rusting

                  • @Butterfly Gocha:

Also note that the reminder is to ensure that you don't leave food that's heated and steaming in the microwave to accelerate rusting

That doesn't sound like a valid reason as the microwave has to be built to withstand normal cooking use. Food will release plenty of moisture when cooking. If it can withstand 30 minutes of cooking, it can withstand 5 minutes of standing.

Other microwaves don't have that "feature".

    From the reviews o_0

Nice notification music/easy to use/big enough
The door is easy to open compare to the one with button, all buttons are in touchscreen form, the microwaves is big enough for 2 people, the largest plate from Kmart can fit in!

    • 2 small people perhaps. I mean tiny, 2 tiny people.

    • +2

i have this microwave and can confirm the notification sounds is very annoying on this microwave…

i can also confirm that the microwave cannot fit 2 people in it, it wont fit 1 person even if you cut them up.

      • 1 person even if you cut them up.

I would always recommend that anyway for more even cooking, and do multiple batches.

  • This is the black/white version, if you want only black you can price match at TGG.

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-neochef-25l-1000w-inverter…

  • I have the 1200W 42l at home, and honestly, the old sharp which was 1000W heats up faster and hotter

  • Can anyone explain the difference between the variations. According to the LG website there's one with a knob, one that you slide with a finger and one with a less blacked out glass.

You've already answered your own question.

      • Surely that can't be it? There's a $100 price difference between some of them.

        • It is. There are other 'forces' affecting the price.

  • +1

I've got one. WiFi is slightly affected, Bluetooth quite badly.
I have a mesh point in the room and also channel selection would affect the (lack of) interference.
Cooking power is good, 'music' is slightly annoying. Touch controls are handy for a quick 30s or 2 minute reheat, not so handy for anything more complex.

    • +4

I have a mesh point in the room and also channel selection would affect the (lack of) interference.

Yup, it doesn't kill the entire wifi range but a good chunk of it.
This is the interference put out by mine. The interference by mine is on channel 3 and above so I set my 2.4GHz network to channel 1. All my IoT devices still work while microwaving so I guess that took care of it.

      • How did you get those graphs?

  • Any thoughts on this one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/699293

  • I have the 43L Neo Chef inverter with the physical buttons and I can't fault it. Glass touch would piss me off no end.

    • Admittedly it isn't detecting my finger tips well. But will detect a larger contact area . Minor gripe

  • Always go for the version with the knob! Much more tactile. The knob also receeds when you need for cleaning.
