First time posting a deal

Tontine Wifi-enabled electric blanket is 50% off at Spotlight currently and can be combined with the $40 off purchases over $100 code to bring the queen down from $300 to $110 or the King size from $320 to $120. Edit: Have to be a VIP member which is freeto use the voucher.

I used a picture of the voucher in store to purchase.

I haven’t used it yet as I won’t be getting my king size bed until next week but I’m hoping the wifi functionality works well for preheating.

If you want a similar concept on the cheap: Buy a cheaper blanket with actual shifting switches (i.e. doesn't reset when powered off) and some cheap smart plugs.

    • ^this
Have used a cheap goldair electric blanket plugged into smart sockets for many winters, and it's been great to turn it on and off remotely and scheduled. Obviously can't adjust the heat settings, so that would be the only real benefit to getting a fully smart blanket.

    • wont always work, I have a shifting switch, but it still has a built in timer which turns off after a set time.

  • if using the spotlight website to buy, please screenshot the checkout page showing the discounted price. I placed an order in December, the price showed in checkout as $112 when I clicked confirm order.. but charged me $169.. because apparently, the voucher I applied expired when I was checking out. I was going to return all items once they arrived as you cannot cancel orders. But, some items have (still) not arrived. I am still fighting them now for a refund.

  • Can this be controlled by Google Home?

    • From the photo of the packaging, it uses an app called Tuya Smart. I searched this app on Google Play, it does mention:

      • Voice control via Amazon Echo and Google Home

    • Yes! Once you connect Tuya Smart / Smart Life with Google Home, it works for turning on and off the blanket. However, Google Home doesn't have the additional function of changing the heat setting. That still has to be done via Tuya Smart / Smart Life.
However, I think it google will at least remember what heat setting you last set it at!

  • Anyone know if this works with Alexa?

    • There's any number of idiotic scenarios that could be imagined if one is motivated enough.

    • If someone wanted to set your house on fire there are easier ways to do it.

  • Thanks been wanting to have a reasonable pariced wifi controlled electric blanket for ages

  • Thanks OP !

  • Thanks OP.
    Ordered 1

  • Thanks OP. I reckon we'll save money eventually on using this vs fan heater

  • Perhaps a silly question but does this require2x plug outlets or just 1?

  • +5

    Thanks. Got it and installed.

    • There's two controllers for both sides of the bed which can be controlled independently using the apps as well
    • Each controller needs a power outlet
    • connects the Truyo or the Smart Life app, I use Smart Life for another device so used that
    • Connection is similar to how Xiaomi products are connected, only 2.4ghz is supported
    • Works with Google home. Can turn it on in the device control section as well and with your voice using hey Google
    • Seems to use around 0.2kwh from early testing
    • How's the cable connection on the blanket? Is it big/does it stick up a lot? I find my current one can be annoying in that respect.

      • +1

It's about 1cm tall with rounded corners and placed on the edge of the bed, I think it would only be an issue if you were sleeping right on the edge of the bed.

    • Does it make a click when the power is turned on/off?

My wife is a light sleeper and types to bed before me. I'm finding the bed too hot if I leave the blanket on 1 for a few hours so would love to turn it off before or turn on later. But if it clicks it'd be a no go.

      • +1

No, I couldn't hear any clicking. It does make a very faint buzzing if you put your ear close to it. It's that high pitch noise all wifi devices tend to make

        • Wow that's nice.. Thanks for checking!

    • Regarding the 0.2kWh usage, what were the operating parameters? Were both sides on? What heat setting?

I remember an earlier comment mentioning a power usage of 50W. Just trying to do the math in terms of the power usage :)

      Thanks.

      • +1

I just did another test and on medium with both on it was about 50w so maybe that's right.

    • Does the smart life app allow you to schedule different warmth settings (high, medium, low/sleep) and different timers or can you only schedule when it turns on and off?

      Thanks.

      • So one thing I've noticed is when you use the automation options like Google home or assistant widget to turn it on. It turns it on with the medium setting, no way I can see to change that.

Using the timer in the app, you can set multiple timers, and repeat on set days. But no way to customise what setting. So I assume it is also on medium.

      • No. It can only schedule to turn on (med with 1hr timer), or off.

See my comment below for detailed review.

If you wet the bed will this electrocute you?

    • +1

I'd recommend not to, but it is machine washable. Even Amber Heard could use it.

      • But will the electricity affect me

      • Is it machine washable, really?

  • Wow this is some Internet of Shit hall of fame material

Bought this blanket last week. Here is some review:

    The Blanket

The blanket has 2 separate controller that operates independently.
When you turn the blanket on, it defaults to Med and 1 hour timer.
You can then select between High Med and Low, and select the timer between 1 and 10 hours.

    Tuya App:

The app can only use 2.4GHz WIFI. It doesn not support 5GHz Wifi.
The app can turn the blanket On or Off, select between High Med Low, and change count down timer between 1 and 10 hours
The app has a scheduler that can either set to one off or day of the week. The scheduler can ONLY turn the blanket on or off. It doesn't not have the ability to set the heat level or count down timer. When the scheduler turn the the blanket on, it is default to Med with 1 hr count down. (A bit of disappointing that it cannot set the heat level and count down timer)
The workaround of having a longer count down timer is to set multiple schedules. i.e. turn on blanket at 10PM and turn on blanket at 11PM, and then you will have your blanket running for 2 hours.

    Google Home:

When link Tuya app to your Google Home, it is recognised as a Switch. Therefore you can only turn it on or off through Google Home. You can't change the heat level or count down timer through Google Home.

I bought one too and will be returning mine due to
      - the limited automation capability (can only turn on/off as described above)
      - big ass controller with short cable so stick awkwardly off the side of the bed
      - loud buzzing noise from the controller (can be heard distinctly across the room). Coupled with the short cable, its actually keeping me awake at night!

Really disappointed with the build and quality of the controller and functions. Cannot imagine paying $300 for something like this!

Just a followup to this blanket:

You CAN actually set the scheduler to different settings AND longer countdown timer. You just have to use the SCENE function.

You can even set a timer to come on when the weather drops below a certain temperature… Pretty cool.. (pun intended)..

The only problem I have with mine is that the controller keeps lighting up and the bright blue light makes it feel like an U18 disco. I had to cover it with 4 strips of strapping tape to stop it.
