Have you actually tried getting a better router, and checking all ur cables and ur internals aren't capped with a lower cat 5 spec

i got 1gb and had issues when i first got it

the shitty Asus router i had wasn't solid enough to handle that much througput till i got something with a beefier CPU inside it now i sit at 940 down

        • +1

I purchased the google nest router from ABB which they recommended.
It was all working fine previously, but now am getting ~400Mbps speed on 1Gbps plan.
Tried all the troubleshooting steps with ABB support but they are useless and keeps telling me to reset the NBN box to check again & again & again speeds!
          IMO ABB is shit!

  • +2

    Any discounts for 50/20?

    • +1

This. My premises don't go past 50mbps

  • +3

It’s weird that Aussie BB customers are so loyal considering they’re always getting screwed over on these deals. I’m currently on a permanent deal with TPG for Home Ultrafast 250Mbps for $99 a month… if I change my plan or move I lose it.

    • TPG UltraFast is only 250mbps? I thought the UltraFast plan is always at 1000/40 mbps. That’s why the TPG plan is cheaper than others.

      • The 250Mbps plan is $129 on Aussie BB… for $99 I'd only be getting the 100Mbps with Aussie BB and I'm currently getting 300+ Mbps.

        • +1

That is SuperFast Plan on ABB, not UltraFast. You are comparing the TPG UltraFast (250mbps) plan to the SuperFast Plan on ABB, that's why I asked why the UltraFast on TPG is only 250mbps

          • @T-man: Yeah I think you’re right, TPG doesn’t do Gigabit plans…

            • @Sidog: TPG sells 250 and Gigabit nbn.

TPG NBN Home Superfast 250/25 $94.99.
              Typical Evening Speed of 200Mbps.

TPG NBN Home Ultrafast 1000/50 $114.99.
              Typical Evening Speed of 250Mbps.

Reasons why you are only seeing 300Mbps is that perhaps TPG isn't purchasing as much CVC bandwidth, your router isn't powerful enough, your using Wi-Fi or a bad ethernet cable.

              • @Twix: I’m also on HFC in my area, I thought Gigabit NBN was only for FTTP?

                • @Sidog: Nah Gigabit is available on HFC. Overall speeds and latency are not as consistent on HFC compared to FTTP.

                  • +1

                    @Twix: Interesting… I might do some testing.

      • nbn Ultrafast is 1000/50 best effort. TPG's typical evening speed from 7pm to 11pm is 250Mbps. In comparison Aussie BB's typical evening speed is 600Mbps.

    • I'm on the 250/25 plan on FTTH with TPG and am on a similar $84.99 a month permanent deal. I won't ever leave till 1000/50 is "required".
I get 260/26 regularly too, even in peak sometimes! Minimum has been circa 210/20.

    • Yeah that's a good deal

if ur getting 220 or above come 6pm then i'd not complain ever

      that's a very good price

I mean we still get (profanity),that price would get u 2gbit in EU and leave u with 30 bucks for beer..i paid 36 australian for a 500/500 connection in berlin it's bullshit here

If the govt wanted to help with cost of living, stop charging stupid CVC pricing

      • Has TPG got rid of their $99 connection fee?

  • +4

    Still more expensive than Superloop

  • +1

100/40 is normally $109, how could you get it for $79 with $20 discount (see title)?

    • Yeh wondering this too. Entering my address (FTTN) it lists:

      Starter NBN (12/1) $59
      Casual NBN (25/10) $69
      Everyday NBN (50/20) $79

But then Family NBN for $99 only lists “NBN Homefast” for the speeds instead of like the previous plans

    • '$89 on 100/40'

The prices In the title are the prices after discount

    • 100/40 is $89.
      100/20 is $79.

      • +1

        The title has been fixed.

  • +6

I switch between Superloop, ABB and FutureBB depending on the 6 monthly deal.

    • Good idea

    • Exetel are another option now since they are owned by superloop. Pretty happy so far.

      • are they now using the superloop network? also is it still ppoe?

        • Fair as i'm aware yes using Superloop network. Yes it is PPPOE

          • @kulprit: so good network but annoying ppoe (IMO)

            • @Irishness: You just put it into the router or modern once and done with it. But yes I agree it's unnecessary

              • @kulprit: thanks yes I understand how it all works just unnecessary as you say

    • Not a bad idea, I never really hear the name Launtel pop up much here. But that is who I am with, can really help with getting on some of these deals. They charge per day so you have the option to pause the service, this allows you to always have a backup connection if things don't get setup quick enough. But I guess it also depends on what NBN tech you have, as I can have more than one service active at a time. This works well if you say got a new game and need to download a bunch of data you can have a second connection that is 1000/50 (if lucky with FTTP) download all your stuff for the day and then swap back to the 100/20 etc.

I only came across them as I was with ABB but the day 1000/50 speeds came out for some reason weren't available from ABB for my address right away, so while I still had ABB I took advantage of Launtel's free 7 day test to see what speeds I would actually get. Have been with them ever since.

Also like the way they do the static IP, rather than be charged "extra" per month for one can just lease one for a fully refundable $100.

    • How to switch and avoid the router/ modem cost? I'm currently on optus and I want to start this switching between plans after 6 months. I have an optus $75 50/20 plan. Which I think is not so good. How can I use the same router.?

  • Do they do credit checks?

    • +2

      legally they can

But if you have to ask this, maybe you should instead be looking at sorting out the issues that warrant worrying about this instead of looking at high speed fibre plans

      • That's right. Thanks

  • +3

Just signed up to More NBN (CommBank 30% off promo) 100/40 for $76.30 p/m (12m, no contract), with a free government sponsored FTTP upgrade.

My discounts with ABB ended just this month.

    • +2

I just became eligible today for that free upgrade :)

      Very happy.

With More too, has been a blessing, their included static IP fixed a issue I was having for a month or two with new ASUS Routers.

    • Is there a way to find out if your address is eligible without submitting to the ISP? My suburb is listed but it says "X-South" and I dno if that's ours or not

      • Check NBN Check Address on Google.

        • It just says "You are connected to the nbn™ network". Does it come up with something else if you are eligible for the upgrade?

          • @MeesusEff: Yes, certainly does. Mine updated with this today, Good news! You may be able to upgrade to nbn™ FTTP.
We’re extending fibre deeper into selected areas. Your location may be able to upgrade to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) if you order a plan based on nbn™ Home Fast or higher

Last week or so it was saying it will happen soon.

You can also register for updates.

Have you seen contractors putting ropes or fibre in?

FWIW, my suburb wasn't on any announced upgrade list.

            • @scuderiarmani: Ah damn, yeh I did register for updates before but it's just boring generic stuff so far. Our area is pretty small for residential so they must have just focused on the business end, sad.

              • @MeesusEff: They had half a dozen announcements…. the majority of FTTN people will be upgraded though, eventually.

In my experience it's much better than the initial FTTP rollout, that was VERY political. Avoiding areas that'd have huge uptake…..

                • +1

@scuderiarmani: The good thing about doing it this way is they get all the people that are actually interested in getting better speeds done first.

                  • @MrSober: Yeah I actually quite like this method.

Have the ability for most, but opt in if you want it.

Wish it was always like this tbh. Tonnes of people don't want or need fixed line services.

    • I'm currently an Aussie BB customer and bank with Commonwealth, I've thought about this more offer, how are they so far?

      • First month in and great. Constant 50mbps via EOP and WiFi on HFC. It's all self service on their online portal. Thinking of bumping up to thr 100/20 for $69

    • +1

More (profanity) me around and couldn't connect my internet. Worst customer service ever. Went straight back to abb despite the lack of discount

      • Whilst I’m very tempted at More’s price, something tells me I’m going to regret leaving ABB. Never have a problem with them and always consistent Gigabit speeds.

  • +2

There are some ISP are very easy to switch between ISP. My experience ABB is the easiest one, you can leave or disconnect anytime and they will refund you the unused credit, Superloop is very easy to disconnect too but they will not refund you the credit (so better disconnect by the end of your billing cycle). Other ISP is fine too, just some of them need 30 days notification ect. If you are happy with your current ISP, you can stay. For first timer switched between ISP, ABB is good option as they have the best disconnect policy. My NBN is FTTP if that’s matter.

    • Really? Superloop were more than happy to refund me when I churned to Telstra a few days after a new billing cycle.

  • I'm with ABB on 1000/40 - 1 month free .. AND .. I received this email, does that mean I'm eligible?

    • Highly unlikely they'll stack

    • Email t&c's says New Customers only. Maybe if you sign up under a different persons name?

      • The check is based on the address I imagine, so yea doesn't work says code is invalid.

        • A ‘new customer’ is defined as an individual who has not had an active broadband service with Aussie Broadband in the last six months or hasn’t been an authorised contact, residing at the same address as the primary contact ,on an active broadband service with Aussie Broadband in the last six months.

Probably not, unless you had a different enough name to make it seem feasible.

  • How does Aussie Broadband compare with Launtel?

    • No experience with Launtel, but Aussie is highly regarded as the best, or if not right up there.

Customer service is definitely top notch.

      • Agree with this.
Tried several RSP’s and nothing comes close.

    • +2

In the past I had great experiences with ABB, but last time I was connected with them I was lucky to get 60% of the advertised speeds with them. Origin through ABB I was actually getting slower speeds on the 1000 plan than the 400 with Launtel. With Launtel I get around 85-100% of advertised speeds. Telstra I get about 110% of the advertised speeds (too expensive, only with them for the 2 months for $1).

All at the same address on FTTP, using the same equipment. It probably depends on your area as I think some people still get good ABB.

      • Thanks, this is helpful.
I currently am with Telstra NBN but would like to change. If I would like the Launtel 1000 plan, would the Telstra Smart Modem that I currently have be sufficient or is there an OzBargain recommended product?

        • Telstra SM is suitable for Gigabit and compatible with Launtel.

    • First time I have seen Launtel mentioned,

I have been with both and currently with Launtel, I made the switch only because at the time gigbit speeds came out ABB wasn't able to provide at the time. Wanted to test out what speeds I would actually get so signed up with Launtel on that 7 day free trial to see(not sure if they still provide this), have been with them ever since.

You can take advantage of the pause feature if you are looking to get cheaper internet for a few months, and then un-pause after the discount over. But only if you have the modem that allows more than one connection at a time.

  • …..and here I am on my crappy NBN Fixed Wireless connection paying $95 per month for an average download of 15Mps and average upload of 1Mps…………..

  • +1

An existing customer deal would be nice…

  • +2

I swear the frequency of these deals alongside the lack of existing customer deals and increase in frequency of downtimes is just a motivator to leave them.

  • Just read your current providers T&C with regards to disconnections and refunds. Superloop (my current ISP) bill to the end of the month with no refunds in lieu. So need to end at the end of the month to tie in with new ISP switch. Bit of a pain for $10 saving.

  • Ah well … they lost me as a customer already. As a competitor was the same price as their deal now. It's sad that we need to do the switching game all the time.

  • Very lousy service provider, I called to schedule a disconnect which was three week weeks away and got a confirmation email to confirm that, but then the service got disconnected an hour later.
After calling to find out I got asked to order a new service through the app and the person confirmed that everything is good to go and just wait for nbn to activate the service, this didn't happen until the next morning and I rang them again to find out that the request wasn't submitted and he had to resubmit it.
    Very unprofessional and incompetent.

  • NBN is After a rate increase,,,awaiting ACCC for approval

  • Those on 12/1 - 25/10 - 50/20 get no EOFY Offer. Thanks Aussie Broadband!

    • This! My line can only do 65 down, so the best plan for me is 50/20, somehow I’m left out. Go figure

  • I am with tpg. Would change to this require a new modem? Don’t use phone as I haven’t even connected phone to modem for 15 years.

    • I've churned from many, just did my parents from tpg to superloop, no need to change. Maybe just reset modem and at most maybe need to login to the nbn network on the modem level.

    • Login to your modem, look for the WAN config settings and change it from PPPoE to Dynamic or IPoE.

  • I’m with Aussie, phone customer service has been great but they are terrible at responding to faults etc you log through app or email.

Previously I was with sloptus, for me the service was surprisingly much more reliable (but may just be chance) but customer service destroyed my will to live.

I’m thinking of trying the mate offer now, anyone been with Aussie and mate interested in your experience.

    Thanks

  • +2

Man i keep forgetting to cancel my AB and go to another provider. 99 for 100/20 is so steep. I keep dreaming they'll give a customer discount. Nope.

    • I've had reminders in my calendar to call and cancel every month but just keep ignoring/forgetting.

Time to finally go to Superloop/Belong/Exetel and save $20 p/m. Screw this loyalty.

    • just do it 😂. i did 2 weeks ago and now paying less for more bandwidth

  • A ‘new customer’ is defined as an individual who has not had an active broadband service with Aussie Broadband in the last six months or hasn’t been an authorised contact

nice! when i’m done with “More” (cba) offer will head back to abb again 🙌

    • I'll have to stick out a few months extra by the looks, switching to FTTP next month so I believe i have to stay with them for 12 months from that pt.

No issues though….. though I believe they don't offer gigabit….

  • No real saving if your already on a Superloop 100/20 plan at $79/month.

  • Im with Belong at the moment, with their $70 for 48Mbps, they also provided free modem.
I wonder why not many people use belong?
And also, do we need to buy modem for this deal?

    • $70 for 48Mbps isn’t cheap for the people keep switching ISP. I paid around $75/month in 2021, only few months speed 100/20, most of the time 100/40, 250/25 and 1 month 1000/50. Internet speed hardly drop below 98Mbps.

    • Same boat as you. I've messaged Belong asking them to give me a better deal otherwise I'll leave for ABB and use the Belong modem; no need to buy a new one.

      • I ended up leaving them and use superloop now. Hahaha

        • Yep, they replied generically giving me nothing so I'm finding a new ISP asap

  • More NBN is better. 100/40 for only $77.

    • wouldnt say thats available to everyone, no one in my family has commbank lol

      • It doesn't cost much to get a Commbank transaction account to get the deal.

    • How does that make it better?

      • So they can sign up for More NBN and get 30% off. $77 a month for the 100/40 plan.

  • -3

Aussie are among the dearest providers. They discount $20 that brings the price down to many other providers. I'm with tangerine that's $10 cheaper at full rate. My startup discount was cheaper than Aussie. They are no better than most others. If support is a big thing then they provide a bad service to need support. I've never rung tangerine and get near on on full speed every night

    • +3

You realise it's not always the ISP's fault when your connection is bad?

      That's where support comes in.

That's where companies like Aussie are highly regarded.

You should be grateful your line is good…. has virtually nothing to do with your provider.

      • +2

        Exactly right.
People are quick to shit on their RSP when it’s most likely caused by their garbage hardware.

        • Confirmed for two years with telstra is actually the worse ISP to deal with.

          • @digitalerr0r: I didn’t have a single problem with Telstra’s NBN service, excellent ping times (looking glass will confirm) and always consistent speeds. Their only problem is the price and customer service.

    • +1

Lol you are comparing Vocus network (Tangerine) to AussieBB own network.

Vocus are bad when it comes to international streaming, and international online gaming :)

AussieBB is top notch when it comes to international, sorry to burst your bubbles. Tangerine is cheap because Vocus is crap at international hence the cheaper price. If you dont use international, and only use domestically (in Australia, Australia website) then any RSP/ISPs will work the same meh.
