  • What's your recipe for espresso martini with this?

    • +8

      Light version
2 parts Mr Black to 1 part cold brew/espresso

      Version with a proper kick
2 parts Mr Black, 1 part vodka to 1 part cold brew/espresso

I was doing all different espresso martini recipes using other things but then started using Mr Black and havent needed to look any further. People are really impressed with the foam it creates so will always have a bottle of this on my bar cart.

Your proper kick version is pretty much the same as my version that my drinking friends love. For the vodka, I use Vanilla vodka for an additional flavour layer.

For my husband who is a sweet-tooth, I use the same recipe but add two teaspoons of condensed milk prior to the shake - makes a Vietnamese Espresso Martini

      • Thanks.
I’ve had a few at fancy nights out, and they were borderline petrol. And coming from someone who’s no.1 drink is coffee, and no.1 alcohol is vodka.

But I had one recently at a winery, and it was extremely drinkable. The waitress said it was down to the fact they use vanilla vodka. Not that simple

If you have Patron Cafe left over or recently got a bottle through the 1st choice restocking….and you love a strong boozy espresso martini, this is my favourite espresso martini recipe

      x1 shot patron xo cafe
      x1 shot mr Black
      x2 shot of espresso
      touch of simple syrup

      • ^ This one for me!

This was the exact ingredients I was meaning to try (hadn't worked out the ratios). I prefer tequila based espresso martinis, and I think simple syrup is the way to go for sweetness, so this was my exact plan! (I was was adapting a recipe given to me that used an aged rum base)

Will try your recipe, cheers! :)

      • Patron XO Cafe, 700ml
        Brand: Patron XO Cafe
        $147.14

Wow, it's not cheap. Does it ever go on special anywhere? Oh,and what's simple syrup?

        • +1

Those are jacked prices, since Patron XO has been discontinued.

Bought for $76 a week or two ago:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/700500

          • @caprimulgus: Wait why is it discontinued? It's the only Patron worth buying lol.

            • @CheapCoffee: I believe it's because they are trying to focus / realign their brand as more of a fancy tequila brand, rather than this lower end stuff that people take as shots! lol

I agree with you though - definitely my favourite!

Maybe they are just getting us to panic buy and stockpile, and then they will reintroduce it later! Lol

      • Haha, that's a long way from a martini! But does sound like a pretty tasty long black.

Anders has a pretty good recipe for an espresso martini using Mr. Black.

      • ^ cognac sounds good too! will try! cheers.

      My go to is:
      1 shot of espresso
      1 shot of vodka
      1 shot of kahlua/Mr black
      1 shot of Bailey's

The baileys gives it a creaminess and most people that try it say its one of the best they have had.

    • My recipe is

      1 part Mr Black
      1 part vodka
      1 part espresso
      1/2 part agave syrup

Quality vodka and espresso of your preference so there is no part of the recipe detracting from each other.

absolute heaven w/ double shot poured over a big bowl of bulla vanilla icecream.

This deal reminds me a comment from friend about Bailey.

"What's the piont of mixing coffee with liquor? One part makes you sleepy while the other part makes you sleepless 😄."

    • +2

For the ultimate experience, use vodka instead of liquor, and use redbull instead of coffee.

      • Pretty much cancel out anyway!

      • Party all night and pay for it following day. :P

For the True ozbargainer looking for a discount (not to try) its currently 60$ for 700ml on Amazon (putting it at less then 10$ per 100ml that this deal has it as).

Actually - for the true Ozbargainer - Buy the Espresso Martini Bundle at shop.mrblack.co - it's $85 - upgraded to a 1000ml of Mr Black and also comes with 700ml cold brew concentrate. Then add the 200ml small bottle, and use the TRYMRBLACK discount code - you get a discount of $13, bringing your total to $97 for 1200ml of Mr Black and a free cold brew concentrate. Works out to be $0.005 cheaper per ml, and you get a freebie too.

I have too much time, and ordered this last Friday. lol

        I appreciate this.

Do you mind sharing your cold brew setup?

I've gone from Kmart to Haro and now to a Toddy.

        • I cold brew in a French press

      • Bought, cheers

    • Looks like the same for BWS too. Might pick up some tomorrow and save the delivery wait time.

  • Amazing drop if you like your espresso martinis. Takes the fuss out of having additional bottles of vodka kahlua etc etc.

  • +1

    https://discerningdrinks.com/cart
    $41.30 here + $9.90 shipping = $51.40

  • Can someone comment on the difference b/w this and Kahlua?

    • +1

Kahlua is much sweeter, this is better quality.

    • People use Kahlua for the sweetness - IMHO Mr Black and simple syrup is the better way to go.

    • This shits all over kahlua. Richer coffee flavour, less sweet (but still quite sweet IMO).

As the poster below said, run with this and make up any additional sugar with simple; gives you the opportunity to use an infused spirit like vanilla for example too.

  • I still prefer kahlua with a dash of oat milk in my espresso martini’s. not sure if this mix is just too strong but it did foam up very nicely

    • +1

How does this compare with Mr Black and Patron Cafe? I found that mr black really nails the cold brew coffee flavour, whereas patron cafe is fairly sweet, but over-roasted

      • This is a tequila similar to Patron which is sadly not produced anymore…If you are a fan of the patron cafe then this an alternative to that instead of mr black which is a vodka.

        • How does it compare to the Patron? It looks a bit el chueapo…lol

But if it's 80% as good as Patron, then could be a good replacement!

Might have to buy a bottle to use for shots, and keep my Patron stockpile for cocktails / savouring!

          • @caprimulgus: I’m not sure, I’m going to get two bottles this week…there’s 30% shopback at first choice 😃

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/702058

          • +1

@caprimulgus: Just picked it up and it’s like a watered down patron…doesn’t have that thick liqueur texture. It’s more like mr black a bit watery. 😬

Probably won’t be getting it again, but $45 is almost half the price of patron $76 so I wasn’t expecting it to be good. I’d say taste wise only 60% of the patron.

            Also this one I haven’t tried - https://sesiontequila.com/collections/sesion-tequila/product…

            • @ne-us: Cheers mate - appreciate the feedback!! :)

That Sesion one looks like it might be more promising!

  • id buy it just for the empty bottle but sadly out of bloody stock.sad as f

  • Since we're talking coffee I can recommend Jumping Goat. I personally prefer the Coffee Vodka but the Whisky is good too.

I normally mix Mr Black, Jumping Goat Vodka, a few teaspoons of sweetened condensed milk and fresh full cream milk.

  • Available again for anyone interested.
