  • What are the odds you can substitute this for a smaller better quality tv for a similar price, eg Sony Bravia 55”? Can’t fit such a huge tv in my living room!

    • Let us know if you manage to do this.

      • +3

Just asked in store. Joondalup WA, he said only the 75” is applicable, not even the smaller version of the same model lol. But he said they also got the $900 gift card promo -_-

  • Would you be able to use the Telstra plan as a replacement for NBN for the 2 years? Would the hotspot signal coming from the average phone be able to fully replace that of the NBN modem?

I know that the drain on the phone battery would be high so would keep it charging. Can anyone recommend a cheap sim card modem in case I choose to keep my present Kogan sim in my phone?

    • +1

Insert your Telstra SIM into an Optus e3372 (or something similar), stick it in the back of your router, and you've got yourself an NBN alternative.

      • Thanks mate. I didn't even know they had usb ports until now!

      • Read your comment.
Currently have been using my older Samsung phone permanently plugged into USB power, for wifi hotspot. (Usually use disposable Kogan/other cheap data Sim)
I just pulled out of spare room, Archer D7 router I got given and it has two USB ports on the back labelled USB1 and USB2.
Doesn't seem to have a simcard slot, but willing to buy this E3372 you mentioned if it will work with this router???
        Can you please help

        • Your best bet might be to search Whirlpool for specific guidance on your D7 router. On my router (RT-AC68U), it was a simple matter of enabling 'dual-WAN' and inserting the e3372.

      • I've found the Telstra Pre-Paid 4GX USB Modem gives better speeds than the Optus e3372, but never have tried this plugged into my router.

        • Do you think this would hugely different results than putting the sim into a spare phone and using that as a permanent hotspot?

  • Does anyone know if this plan can have the international package added to it (for unlimited international calling) ? The critical information summary doesn't mention this. Thanks

    • It doesn't come with it but you should be able to add it on by paying extra.

    • No option to add.

    • I listened to the recorded message while sitting at a desk at Good Guys just now, and I'm almost sure that one of the conditions was that you could NOT add the international package.

If you don't need a sim, then basically pay for the tv over 24 months interest free.

    • +2

How is paying $1896 for a $1500 tv interest free?

  • Anyone meeting issues for Telstra mobile broadband or NBN now? Mobile seems alright.

  • +2

Anyone has any experience using this sim plan as a home broadband? For low usage users, 300gb/ month is decent. Presumably it’s not against Telstra’s T&C?

    • I also consider this to replace NBN. Thanks

  • If you want Telstra 5G and are willing to pay over and above the budget offerings like Aldi Mobile (4G Telstra Wholesale) you may benefit from this deal. Really the cream you'll pay Telstra for signing on for 2 years (! 2 f'n YEARS !) pays for your so called "free tv".

Nuthin' for nuthin' in this world, that's the reality.

    • +3

Big reason to go with one of the big providers is because of the smartwatch eSIM service. None of the resellers offer it.

  • Would it work if you're with AldiMobile?

  • +1

Going to see a whole lotta these on Gumtree once people view it in a dark environment haha.

    • +1

      Bad tv?

      • +1

If it uses an IPS panel (which I'm very confident it does), yes.

  • Can anyone confirm if they were able to signup a new service and transfer their number from an existing Telstra service afterwards?

  • +2

Great deal, I got one and you get free postage. I am not so fussy about the display so it suits me fine, and looks ok. Way better than my 10 year old LG tv.

    • +1

      And that's completely fine.
As long as you're happy with it, who cares about what the videophiles have to say :)

      • +2

exactly many years ago I would of been one, but now I don't really care as much…. and why spend $3k plus on a TV anyways… I may as well get this and maybe a nice soundbar to go with it.

    • +1

Same boat here. Gonna go in over the weekend to sign up i think.

      • +1

Just fyi mate since I did mine today. Don’t expect to be ready ASAP, they told me they will contact me about the tv “soon” after the sim is successfully transferred.

        • Thanks for the heads up!

        • FYI - Got mine delivered yesterday!

          • @spikiii: Ahh, I haven't got my call back yet, but I'll wait until tomorrow and call them back.

Thanks for your heads up haha

    • Just went in today to sign up . smooth process , ported in within minutes of finalising everything.

The guys at TGG said , tv order will generate in system, and they expecting stock next week so I should get a call from them to arrange delivery then. (also confirmed delivery is definitely included as part of the promo)

For those who want to check the image quality, please find these two pictures from the display one instore:

    • I don't suppose you looked at off axis viewing or did a tap test for the panel type? In layman's terms, was the colour washed out when standing on an angle?

      • +1

Sorry I forgot to take photo. The colour did decay a bit but I am not sure if it is because of the light reflection in store.

      • Can you explain what the tap test is for? I've seen you comment several time about VA vs IPS.. why is one better than the other?

        • +1

If the picture flickers when you tap the screen, it's IPS (in-plane switching).

You can also tell by standing off axis and if the colour doesn't wash out, it's IPS.

          https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/ips-led-vs-va-lcd

          • +2

            @[Deactivated]: So in short..

IPS = lower contrast, wide viewing angle
VA = higher contrast, narrow viewing angle

Then my understanding is.. for a living room situation, IPS would be better to accomodate the off axis viewing where as for something like a home theatre setup, you'd want VA since you'd most likely always sit at the optimal viewing angle, and its usually a darker environment so low contrast would be more noticable?

            • +1

              @buckethat: Spot on :)
Keep in mind that VA panels are getting better at off axis viewing angles such as Samsung's 'Ultra Viewing Angle' layer used on the QN90A.

  • Anyone had issues attempting to signup & being rejected to apperant bad credit?
Rang telstra & have no issues with them ~ tried to apply for the recent JB deal..

    • Did you ever get the original $59 deal few years back where you could cancel without ETC?

      • No, I was on one of the orgional $65/month with bonus $500 GC, I stuck out the phone plan period though.

  • Is there any way to get this on a company account?

  • I'm currently a Telstra Pre-Paid customer, which is excluded in the T&C for the offer. What would be the easiest way to be eligible? Cancel pre-paid or port out to port back in?

    • For interest/insight - ported to Vodafone yesterday morning, went into the store today to sign up. Took awhile to complete however the credit check passed and at the end he said I'd just need to go to the sales team to complete the deal and organize the TV. After waiting quite some time they came and told me that there was some issue relating to a 'flag' and that they'll call me when the deal has actually been processed. I can only imagine it's due to me having ported to Vodafone so recently, time will tell. I have read online that back end processes around porting aren't as quick as what the customer experiences on their end so perhaps it wasn't fully complete. If I'd known the deal was extended I would've given it a few more days!

  • I signed up and the rep said that the bonus is either the tv or a 1k gift card

    • Wow we were told $800, I'll try and get the $1000 one for my wife

  • Signed up my wife and I, 1 of us got the TV, the other a $1000 gift card.

    • How did you get $1000? We were told $800

      • $1000 is what was advertised in store, ending 4th June

  • Question - on this mobile plan, can we transfer from the physical sim issued to an e-sim?

    • +3

nevermind, answered my own question. Just did the transfer to esim successfully via the app :)

Also - pics of the display unit on the floor: https://imgur.com/a/wquH0sl.

i'm no videophile… but it looks very decent for the price.

      • Could you please share about this esim migration thing? What's the app and does it need to be a certain smartphone device?
        Thanks

        • +1

I just did it through the Telstra 24x7 app, just make sure before you do it, your phone is connected to Wi-Fi (as it'll need it to validate you new e-sim i think?)

You can transfer your plan 24/7, by using the My Telstra app on the eSIM-enabled device (I'm on iPhone 12 pro but should work on any e-sim enabled device) you are transferring your service to.

          In the app:
          Go to Services
          Select your mobile number
          Tap on the 3 dots
Choose the Transfer or restore option and follow the prompts.
Your service should be back up and running in moments. Switch your phone off-and-on, or in-and-out of flight mode to trigger network connection.

          • +1

@spikiii: If no success, just visit a Telstra store and the staff will help you.

      • IPS, thought so.

  • Considering making the purchase. Can i get everyones opinion on the best 75" tv between $1500-$2000 before I commit?

    • TCL P725, worth less than this TV but is considerably better (VA panel and Android TV).
If you want to spend more, go for the C725. This TV is not worth $1495, $1000 at BEST.
It's no coincidence they're letting you choose a $1000 gift card or this TV.

  • Has any one tried swapping the tv for something of equal value?

    • +1

Highly doubt they'd allow this - they probably bulk order the TV to get further discount for this deal.

  • Can you choose a future port-in date or the service will commence on the day you sign up?

    • I think you need to activate the service in store and then the staff will also create the order of the TV

      • Ah thanks. I was half hoping it's possible to sign up but only activate the service later on.

        • I also wish I can activate this plan two months later when my current mobile broadband contract expires:)

  • Anyone know if you can add data Sims to the account for tablets etc?

  • The deal seems to have disappeared off the TGG website. Still running?

    • +1

Just called a store (Bayswater Vic) and apparently the deal is being extended to the 15/6. No confirmation online as yet.

TVs are on backorder and will take a couple of weeks.

      • +1

Went into the store today and all promotional material has it ending on the 15th.

  • I signed up last week in store and the TV was delivered two days later. Now the moral dilemma is that my port in hasn’t been completed yet and I tried to chase it up with Telstra the the store itself to no avail. Telstra agent was clueless as expected and tried to sign up for a new plan after wasting an hour of my time and the store said there was an error that should telstra would fix the next morning.
I feel I have done what I could and if I just shut up now nothing will happen. My exsiting mobile service still works despite receiving confirmation of the port out. What would you do?

    • Mums the word

    • Just keep the TV and don't stress.
      You did what you could.

      • Damn party is over. It just got activated not long after my post.

        • +1

          You jinxed it.

    • And your thoughts on the actual TV ?

  • Signed up on Saturday, my service hasnt been ported yet. Got a call from TGG and said that theres some issue on Optus end with releasing my number and that it's an issue with a lot of the customer who signed up.

    • Had you followed up with them at all or did you just wait for their call?

      • they followed up - there was some issue with my port in, another Optus customer had the same issue apparently. Had to redo the contract. Still waiting for it to be activated

  • Was anyone able to get $10 monthly credit recently on jb hifi/good guys plan? Telstra agent took some convincing from me then said system didn’t allow him to apply it. Was he BS’ing me?

    • It was a one-off $10, not monthly. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12226958/redir

      • Oh thanks for pointing that out. I somehow missed that and wasted an hour with the telstra rep and kind of didn’t believe him when he said he tried but the system didn’t allow it. Oh well! At least I feel better now about not getting the credit. Cheers

  • Confirmed extended till the 15th in todays email.

  • So I signed up at TGG, got my new sim, and the number ported over within 30 mins. Chuck out the Optus SIM, pop in the Telstra SIM into my Poco F3 and… No VoLTE.

    Sigh…

  • I transferred 2 plans over today. Got the TV and $1000 GC. Sales agent said the $1000 offer was coming in a few days and hadn't been advertised yet, but is available.

    • Lets hope the $1000 GC is for a 12-month plan

  • Does anyone have experience or suggestion if Telstra mobile data speeds are crap after signing up to this service plan?

  • +1

Missed this deal by a day! Any chance Good Guys will give me this deal if I walk in today?

  • Anyone else having issue with running a chromecast on this TV? Has it working for a day in HDMI1 port but it no longer works in that port, I have it in HDMI3 and it's fine. HDMI1 works for my Nintendo switch though.

    • no issues with chromecast on mine, I have it on the HDMI1 port. There is also the inbuilt one ont he TV which works fine for me too.

  • Anyone who has this TV, the whole screen goes black for a split second, audio is fine. Is this a fault?

    • Don't think ive noticed this, is this issue happening through a HDMI connected device or on TV channels?
