One of the managers stopped me and ask “what benefit you can get from using gc to buy another gc”. I explained but he is still confusing. We really need to enhance the K-12 math education.

    • +3

Just say you get flybuys 😂

    • +1

      Keep you busy!

    • -5

Another manager argued with me about the T&C. I mentioned it says “cannot buy OTHER gift cards sold at Coles”, so it allows us to use the GC to buy itself. Then he said “I have the right to refuse the service to you, and you can leave now”. Then good luck I just try another one.

The store managers are my biggest enemies. Getting an average salary but behaves like the CEO of Coles.

      • +12

No offence but you don’t seem like a nice person in real life.

        • -8

Thank you, but it is none of your business.

    • +5

Thanks for letting them know!!! When they stop allowing this, i'll remember who to blame.

      • -8

Aha? Don’t tell me you think they (most of them) don’t know this bug. Also for these kind of discount events, never think about doing it later. Always treat it as the last time.

      • +6

        You are spot on, mate.

They obviously don't have a day job, and can go around stores buying up 100s of cards (by their own admission).

Then, they have the audacity to blame the store managers for doing their job, and claim that they are engaged in some fraud syndicate without a shred of proof.

The sense of entitlement is extremely high on this one.

          • @GiftCardHunter: You sound upset. Have a hug.

              • -2

@GiftCardHunter: We all love trolls. They are gifts that keep giving. Popcorn is all eaten, off to Coles to buy some more.

                • -6

@Coops1: Go ahead. I won’t publish anymore message and will continue the hunting. I think it is better to just earn money silently. I will never blame those people taking advantage of events. If you are really kind people, or super rich, do whatever you want. However, if you just feeling jealous, either because of no-stock, or you are too shy, then save your time to blame me and get your hourly pay.

@vinnychase: I am really happy to see that all shops I have visited have no stock. I am incapable, then what? Enjoy my night with $xxxxx profit. Don't want to say more and waste my time. I got no profit arguing with you. For me, your value is less than a $250 gift card.

                      • +6

@GiftCardHunter: No one here gives a crap about your profit mate.
People are annoyed with you for discussing inception with Coles managers. You know they have meetings, right?
This is EXACTLY the way issues are raised and action taken. You may well be the seed that permanently wrecks it for everyone.
So pretty please, get a clue and go about your business quietly.

@DoctorCalculon: I am not like you, and I got more money than jobs from investments and foreign assets. Getting GiftCards is just my casual hobby with my friends. Go and enjoy your job, salary, mortgage and loans mate. I can sleep and get money into my savings account (even if I am not a billionaire right now), but how about you?

  • +1

What do you do when the card is declined but managed to charge my credit card ?

    • Start to worry.

      • Already

        • The panic is real when the money is gone.

    • -1

High chance that the staff scanned the same card twice, or checked out a paid card. The only way is ask them to process a refund. Otherwise, neither your bank nor the card issuer will refund your money. I got one such error last night due to the double scan.

      • You are right ! Will need to go back to the store tomorrow as I got one card that has not been scanned.

    • Yeah I am on same boat… the salesman clicked no for signature verified and then it declined zz. I’m guessing it will automatically come back onto the card within 7 days?

      • Payment Declined + Gift Card Declined (for sure) = You will get money back (but up to 30 days later).
Payment Accepted + Gift Card Declined = You must ask for a refund. Money won't be automatically refunded.

        • Yikes. I am not sure which I fit in. So I paid and it got accepted, then the machine asked if signature is authorized? And the lady out no, then the machine went and declined.

          • @Bambini88: It depends on what's shown on your receipt. In your case, your money should be safe.

            • @GiftCardHunter: However you should never underestimate the ‘karen’ness and incompetence of the coles lady.

              • -4

@vinnychase: Then find someone who looks like a new employee. Oh, one thing, if you check out something over $1000 with new cashiers, the manager will get the system notice and come immediately, and then a fight begins. They will cancel all your scanned cards, if you have been paid a partial amount, they may be "nice" to sell you one gift card, and then give you a coles grocery gift card with the overpaid balance. Well, some other managers will bother to spend 1-hour processing the "18.7" refund and must be to the originally paid gift card, because of their incapability of using their own system (Coles, you really need to do more technical training to the staff). If this is the case, just smile, leave and tell them "it is for you, I am going to another store to get more". Really an interesting scene.

You can argue, damn or flip the bird. But don't actually involve in a fight. If you are asked to leave, then smile, leave and say "good luck to you and your family". Don't give them any chance to make you angry, or irrational and finally call the police.

P.S. So do it one by one. You can also refuse them because you don't need to surrender your paid cards. Use it immediately (after 4 hours), immediately, immediately. Think about what "Special Gift Card" did last time.

          • +1

@Bambini88: It depends on what's shown on your receipt. In your case, your money should be safe.
The sad story is they are initially trained to NOT accept any transaction without a pin for gift cards. But we can actually rinse it with any pin (1111 works), and this will be a pin transaction and will go through. The only thing to be careful of is hiding your payment card.

  • Coles Cambridge Gardens (Western Sydney) had about 30 left about an hour ago.

  • does anyone know if we can add this to our phone wallet like google pay and just tap with it and will show u the balance ?

    • +1

      Nope.

I tried earlier tonight and it did not work.

      • +1

As someone mentioned above, if you are keen to add it to your digital wallet, purchase the Special Gift Card. However, it narrows down the spend scope.

        • -1

Western Union has the apple pay option, not sure if you can send an international transfer with prepaid cards.

  • What are some ways to straight up convert these to cash. I know you can just use them to pay bills and stuff but I'd personally just prefer to just convert it to cash that can sit in my savings account.

    • +1

I also want this, but it seems impossible (really hard) because it does not support 3D Secure 2.0 (I forgot the official name). The previous version of Coles Mastercard can be loaded into some prepaid cards, which allow you to withdraw cash, but nothing to discuss anymore now since it is out of date.
If you really want cash, there are always ways, but they are just too annoying.

    • +2

      Sell them for money

      • +1

Lol, imagine the response someone would get if they tried to sell them on Ozbargains for 240 or 245.

        • +1

Risk of being scammed. Only a tiny profit. Potential tax issues. Plus there are endless stocked $250 available. This is a dead-end.

    • -1

After all the rinsing and repeating I overpay my council a few thousand via aus post then request a refund to your bank.

    • Buy something with the gift card/s.
Refund the purchase onto a different card (i.e. debit card).
You might need to be friends with the cashier.

      • I was told that is money laundering when I recently got another EFTPOS terminal.

  • +1

Does anybody know Coles will restock these cards in the further days? 😭Store nearby all OOS. 😭In Melbourne. Thanks a lot!

    • It depends on their initial stock, you can ask the manager. If they have 1000 but only displayed 100, you will see a “restock”.

  • +1

Anyone got some good ideas to use?
I can't seem to pre pay any bills as they all need full payment online.

    • Maybe Bill Fairies, there'll be credit fees, buy from Bill Fairies if they accept them and then use Bill Fairies wallet to Bpay your bills.

      • +3

Sniip is another one. Again, there will be surcharge involved for CC/DC payments.

  • Didn't even had a single $100 or $250 at my local Coles nor could I find it in online all over Adelaide.

    • Yes I had the same problem! Adelaide got screwed with no cards.

    • Found some $100 in Northpark last night, there were still quite a lot left.

      • could you find any $250s anywhere on the first few days?

        • +1

Yes, got some $250 on the first day but couldn't even find $100 yesterday apart from Northpark.

Please share if you find any in Adelaide Metro :)

          • @birdnw: I got 5 from colonnades on the first day but that was all, everywhere I looked was sold out! Yes we need some South Aussies posting where they are and complaining to staff that we don't the stock like the other states. The shelf space was tiny, I think only 30 cards were allocated to the store?

    • +1

Same issue. Some stores without any of the promotional signage up either.

  • +4

As at 7.30am Saturday, 18 June…the following MELBOURNE stores have NIL stock of $250 cards -

    Heidelberg
    Bulleen
    Burke St. North Balwyn
    High St. Kew
    Westfield Doncaster
    Mont Albert
    Box Hill
    Collingwood

Staff advise….unsure, when new stock will arrive.

Perhaps, others who have also called around to check stock,
please comment, as this saves us all lots of time driving around & to avoid calling the same stores bothering staff.

Those, who have overly bought the $250 cards, please now let others have a chance to buy.
Afterall, Coles will have this sale again before Xmas.

    • Friday afternoon no $250 cards but some $100 at
      Caulfield,
      Malvern,
      Tooronga.

      • Chadstone was sold out on Day 1 (unless staff were hiding any remaining stock).

    • Burke St. North Balwyn

just out of curiosity, does the specials apply here as well because as far as i know it's a "local" coles and has different ranges etc. I didn't realise the typical catalogue specials apply there

  • +1

It is time to finish the 3-day card hunting trip and enjoy my weekend.
If you are in ACT, try Coles Kaleen (Manager noticed the card rinse, but you can still use a normal bank card), and Coles South Point (nice staff that allows you to buy more than 5 in separate transactions, just double check you are not scammed). Both has 100s of $250.
Be quick! People will rush the stock up once they woke up. Remember it is Saturday now!

    • Gungahlin just sold out last night XD

    • Nope all gone as well

  • Looking at buying TV from goodguys for under $900.
    Would this work.
    Get $250x4 coles Mastercard
Then buy $1k ultimate gift card in woolies
Purchase tv at goodguys via cashrewards 12% cadhback?

    • +1

The first 2 steps work for sure.
However for the Cashrewards. It really depends on what item you are buying. TGG can easily give you 20% off or more when you negotiate the price for large appliances. You can try it first, and go back to use the Cashrewards if it failed.

      • +1

Negotiate in store. Get discounted gift card from somewhere and pay it that way. The unionshopper had tgg gift card for 6.5% off.

    • +1

Someone said in the Cashrewards forum that you can only used two Ultimate Gift Cards/ Gift Cards online at the Good Guys.

      • You can buy something and return it straightaway to swap the Ultimate giftcards into one TGG giftcard. I did it last time.

        • -1

Extend your answer, you can also use the MasterCard GC from Coles to buy an Apple computer, then return and refund the money to a normal bank card for cash. I don't know if this is technically legal. If anyone wants to do this, take your own risk.

    • Purchase tv at goodguys via cashrewards 12% cadhback?

Not sure about CashRewards (CR) but over at ShopBack (SB) usually even IF you can pay with GiftCard (GC), that alone will invalidate your CashBack (CB).

      Get $250x4 coles Mastercard
Then buy $1k ultimate gift card in woolies

So you can certainly double dip this way, but maybe not so much triple dipping 🤷‍♂️

  • My council rates will be about $2300 this year. I'd love to pay them with these cards (assuming I can find some more). Still not sure I can pay in split payments though. Any idea how to consolidate them into 1 card?

    • +2

You can pay in instalments of any amount as long as you pay the whole lot before the due date.

    • +2

For my council rate, over at their website’s Online Services I am able to input my Property ID, then input Amount, and Pay manually.
It states any and all payments incur 0.47% surcharge, so just make sure in the Amount part you input the correct amount including the surcharge. Just do that 10x with $250 cards and you’d have prepaid the total amount.

$250/1.0047 is the formula in my case, just replace the last 3 digits with whatever your council surcharges you and input the result in the Amount.

  • Quick question: are these automatically active and spendable after the 4 hours or so we have to activate them manually?

    • +1

      Automatically

  • +1

So i tried and bought 2x100 using the same coles mc gc…and it went through. Later on the cashier notice that in the receipt it says ‘3rd party giftcard’. She said she should have asked me not to use giftcard and she would me in trouble. I quite feel bad about it☹️ But then again I’m like if they dont want people to do it maybe put it in their pos or do other means to prevent it.

    • +3

3rd party gift card is the activation section for the card you bought. If you look at payment section, it only says Mastercard.

      • I see what you mean. Maybe its because it requires signature which The cashier did not asked me to do…maybe because the cashier was upset I used a gc lol

        • I swiped directly and I didn’t even sign the card. The cashier didn’t ask anything

        • -3

Why feel bad about this kind of things? You got refused, then smile and just try another shop. There is really nothing to "feel bad" about. Don't be shackled in the trap of "being a good person". Nobody cares, and nobody remembers you got such an embarrassing situation. I got refused by many shops and asked to leave by lots of managers, but now I am enjoying my weekend with a case of used gift cards.

    • +2

What is the "feel bad" you are describing?

I feel pretty damn good when I look at all my free $18.70 gift cards 😆

Personally it sounds like a them problem 🤷‍♂️

    • +1

You can enter 1111 as the pin, then it goes through. Do it one by one and tell them you just want 5 receipts, DON'T split the payment. If you split the payment, the manager will come immediately, blame you, ask you to leave right now and warn you do not come again. Then you will feel worse.

P.S. The reason: If you checkout 5 $250 cards and tell the staff you want to split into $250, then $250, …… even the manager whose math is under the K-12 level and had a hard time understanding "what benefit you can get from doing this" will easily notice this unusual activity. Don't ask me how did I know this.

  • +2

Melbourne central plenty of $250 at service desk
