I tried to use this card to buy gift cards on shopback.
I managed to link the card in SB's payment method successfully.
But when I try to purchase, it's a hit and miss
It went through earlier today, however when I try to get another one this afternoon, it was an error.
    Not sure why thou.

Fully activated card? Ie you gave the card enough time between activation and use? ~4.5 hours.

I linked two cards last night and successfully bought gift card.
I waited 6 hours after I bought the cards.

    • Yes, one of my card keep failing.

  • Can not card any of my card balances just getting system error, anyway around this?

Oh no. Money is tied up for 4 hours… 9000% better than a dropping stock market.

      • Going to drop again today.

  • Is there stock in Syd?I haven't been able to find anything.
Saw a very appalling scene in Coles Hurstville (Westfield). Few people had come with stack (20-40cards) in their hand to get billed.
Some of it was recycling old cards to pay for new. The person managing the shift said he had no idea where these cards come from as they hadn't put the cards up on the gift cards rack.

Lots of people "stole" the $0 value cards and pay 5 for each visit. This is extremely risky because stealing $0 things is also a crime, regardless of the value. A wise "abuser" will never do this stupid thing.

      • What if they just hide it in the store ? Is that considered stealing ?

        • Of course not. But they are taking cards home.

      • +1

The cards say that they have no value until activated.

How can you steal something that has no value?

        • No value but it is still the property of Coles before checkout. They are safe just because the store doesn’t want to investigate without a firm loss.

        • +3

When it comes to theft, legally it's not about value of the object, its about its ownership and the right of possession.
A 0 value card is still a product, an assets to Coles and Coles has never forfeited its ownership over the card when someone brings it home without paying it.

          • @TanedaR: You can still get charged with theft if your intention is to deprive the rightful owner the use of an item.

            • +1

@JIMB0: I am sure you "can" but in reality you never will.
Also when it comes to a crime, the police are the first to get a say on whether it is worthwhile to recommend prosecution. Our police are pretty well known for not pursuing petty thefts so good luck trying to convince them to charge someone who has stolen 0 value items.
I would also say it is a pretty bad use of tax payer's money and policing resources to do so either.

              • @truetypezk: I'm confused as to what your position is. Do you believe taking these cards out of the shop when inactivated is theft or not?

                • @OzBrogains: Of course it is, I don't think there is any grey area about that.
All I am saying is that if you decided to do that, you are less likely to get into trouble with the police than win a multimillion-dollar Powerball prize.

        • Because it has potential value when activated. That’s like saying you can steal a left shoe because it has no value without its right pair.

  • I get white blank screen when going to mybalancenow.com.au on wifi but works fine on mobile internet. Once page is loaded, balance checking on wifi gives error but no error when checking on mobile internet. Maybe those who gets error should try on mobile internet?

You need to tweak your blockers like uBlock Origin to allow those blocked dodgy elements to pass through. I had the same issue.

      • Yeah adguard dns was the culprit. Changing to google dns address works fine. I was getting garbled captcha as well when adguard dns is on.

      • Thought that must've been it when it loaded fine after disabling uBlock and Privacy Badger. Still loading fine after enabling both again though.

You can use this card at ShopBack. Just bought $1000 Ebay gift card for tomorrow Dell Ebay 20% discount.

    • If you get suspicious card activity or whatever(I got hit with that, can't add these MCs currently), you can buy special giftcards and enter those details to buy the SB cards.

  • Fly buys points eventually come through
I did not obtain fly buys every time as I thought they were not working but I obtained 3000 points after a few days

    • Did you do $250 individual purchases or did you do a large 5x$250 transaction? I'm reading that <=$300 purchases are treated differently etc and so just wanted to work out what YOU did to successfully get points and replicate it.

    • So far gotten about 4000+ Flybuy points so it is all coming in now. Have got a few receipts that I did not use my FB card with so going in today to get them re-scanned to the FB card. Need to do this within 7 days.

      • Do U have to go instore to get FB points rescanned?

        • yes

        • Need to go-to the same store you originally purchased at.

        • I had to travel to three separate Coles Stores in my area to get my Receipts done as I was told I needed to go to the actual store where I had done the purchasing. All done though. I already see 2,391 FlyBuy points loaded up from when I actually remembered to scan it.
You need to do within 7 days (I thought) but the Coles guy I spoke to said within 5 days (but I think he was wrong but thought I'd mention it here).

          • @danielh: Yes, he is wrong. It's 7

          • @danielh: Do i go to the front counter?
I didnt realise could get flybuys so i bought 5 cards but still have the receipts

            • @mmd: Yes front counter/service desk with your receipts and fly buy card within 7 days of purchase and at the same Coles you purchased the cards.

In Coles Crows Nest there were plenty of $250 gift cards at 11am yesterday. They even put them on a separate table next to the service desk, decorated with balloons. Coles North Sydney also had $250s at around 10:30am yesterday, available from Service Desk.

All other shops in not so wealthy suburbs had none of $250. Coles Miranda, Caringbah, Kirrawee, Sutherland, Kareela had none of the $250 today at 6-7am. Seems the stock isn't replenished.

Also Coles Miranda in Westfield seems to not stock these gift cards at all, which is surprising. They don't even have a special section for them on the main gift card wall. The previous time the same promo ran it was the same story with them.

  • Anyway to pay off credit card bill with these somehow? Even calling up and getting to process to earn points on credit card seems ok.

    • You can use a credit card to pay off another credit card.

      • Can or cannot? I'm pretty sure that you cannot use a credit card to pay off another credit card

        • With a normal credit card you can take out a cash advance and use that to pay another credit card.

You cannot make cash advances with prepaid credit cards.

        • +1

          Sorry I meant ‘cannot’

          • @OzBrogains: But these are prepaid though, so perplexed why it can't be used to pay another credit card.

  • Can anyone confirm if it is possible to pay for multiple Coles MC using the Coles MC at a standard checkout? I know it works at a self checkout paying for one card in a transaction but just wanting to know if I can buy multiple cards in a single transaction at standard checkout and use split payment and pay using the Coles MC.

    • +5

You can at a human checkout, if the human let's you.

I don't do it myself because I don't like being rejected.

      • +1

I was rejected this morning to pay with this gift card. Then I asked if I can pay for it one at a time, but also got rejected. She said if you want more fuel vouchers this way, I can only do 3 for you. She also said if you buy 5 and come back later to get more, other staff will reject you.

At least they are doing their part to let more people to get the cards by making up new rules.

      • Do legit purchases first as you may be targeted by a staff member who does not let you buy any (after mentioning doing split gift card payments).

  • Oh, I thought you could not inception these new style Coles Mastercards? The old style = YES though.

  • No $250 or $100 cards at Colonnades SA. It's interesting that there is no in store information that the discount is on. They didn't even put the banner up above the gift card display. It's blank.

  • +2

Anyone seen these in Melb for sale?

  • Should be able to pay the ATO with these. I have a big tax bill coming up.

  • Ok so I agree that you get flybuy points when buying 5 gift cards.

But what if you buy more?

    • +3

You still earn Flybuys points if you buy more than five gift cards during this deal.

  • Does this purchase earn bonus flybuys points? Like the earn 2000 points when you spend more than $80?

    • No.

I've been trying for a few years and have never got any bonus Flybuys points offers to stack with any purchases of gift cards at Coles.

For those who have a HIVER card, especially new people. I just received my HIVER card this morning and my account had $5000 already transferred into it from last week.
I activated it and used it successfully at my Physio ($79) and then I decided to go to my local Coles to purchase 5x$250 Mastercards.
When there, I had to use the staff check out and the girl loaded in the 5x$250 cards and I just tapped the HIVER card and the claim was NOT HONORED on the POS terminal.
I got the girl to reduce the amount to 3x$250 in case I had some sort of $1000 limit and this was also NOT HONORED.
I then gave up and paid for all 5x$250 cards with my Amex.
Anyone with a similar story. Happy to also know of success stories (please indicate if via Self Checkout or Staff plus if it was a new card or not).
Next time I will try to self check out.
    So far it is:
    | NEW | OLD
    Self | ??? | ???
    Staff | FAIL | ???

      Here is my experience: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12272710/redir

I just tapped the HIVER card

Visa payWave limit is $500 per day. This is why you got blocked.

In any case, their limits are not really transparent. Any other banks I have dealt with, they don't have any of these stupid daily limits other than for tap and pay (to prevent fraud if your card is stolen).

      • Thanks. So I just need to slide the card into the Coles POS terminal next time and enter in my pin number (and before that possibly select Debit transaction or something like that)?

        • FYI all. I went back to get another $250 x 5 Mastercards and when I tried it, I inserted my card and selected the first option on the POS terminal and I was REJECTED as I was capped to $1000. I repeated it for the 2nd and 3rd option.
I then dropped it down to $250 x 4 and was also REJECTED as I had also spent $79 earlier that day on the card. This was also repeated on the 2nd and 3rd POS option.
I then did the maths and I ended up SUCCESSFULLY getting $250 x 2 cards on the HIVER card (via the insert card into POS terminal and use option #1 method). I had to get the remaining $250 x 3 cards on my other normal CC.
What I should have done was to work out the remaining cap on the card (in my case $1000 less $79) and done a partial payment for $921 for (4 x $250) and paid the discounted difference on another card.
Tomorrow I will simply get 4 x $250 cards for the discounted price of $925.20 and then do it on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to almost max out my $5k yearly cap.
I'm annoyed about the $1000 limit though as it means I cannot use this card to purchase anything substantial, even if I had the cash in there. I also had already updated my daily transfer limit to $5000 a few days back so this transfer limit obviously had nothing to do with the $1000 hard daily limit.

          • @danielh: A new UPDATE:
Went back again to process 5 x $250 cards at Coles.
At the self check out I did 2 x $250 cards with no issues (selected "1. Visa Debit" as the POS option) and go it with no issues.
I then decided to see what would happen if I did the remaining 3 x $250 cards with a split payment ($537.40 on HIVER and $156.50 on Amex) as I was assuming that I had a $1000 daily cap.
The $537.40 HIVER payment went through with no issues and for a bit of curiosity, I decided to process the $156.50 on the HIVER as well to see what would happen and IT PROCESSED!
Not sure why I had an issue yesterday but checking my HIVER account I can see that I spent $1,156.50 today.
I will try to do the whole 5 x $250 in one shot tomorrow.

            • @danielh: Just continue with splitting between an amount under 1K and then pay the balance. Staff can split the payment for you without you purchasing the cards separately. Should work fine both insert +pin or Apple/Google pay. Don’t bother with 5x $250, I don’t think it will work for payment over 1K in one go. Too many failed transaction may lock your account due to suspicious activity.

            • @danielh: How do you do split payments, $537.40 and $156.50 at self checkout? I am surprised that your local Coles still have $250 cards in stocks today and you are planning to go buy another 5 tomorrow.

My local Coles only has $100 cards left. This morning I saw someone has 2 $250 cards and 3 $100 cards in hand lining up to pay when manager came around to ask where did he got those $250 cards because they knew they run out of $250 cards a day ago. Then manager asked the person aside and I didn't hear what they said but that person didn't buy eventually. Checkout girl said all Coles stores have been told to watch their stock level and strictly implement 5 cards per customer group.

Also, my local Coles also has a new rule today that only one transaction allowed whether you buy 1 card, 2 cards, 3 cards, 4 cards or 5 cards.

              • @bbking18: I had my self check out re-routed to the staff pos to do the split after my self checkout test failed. My Coles has the $250 cards at the desk and so I just need to ask for 5 of them.

                • @danielh: Very lucky. My local Coles still have $100 ones until yesterday. But new rule was in yesterday that have to pay in one transaction and no split payments allowed.

            • @danielh: Looks like I can self check out with 2 x $250 and then do 3 x $250 with HIVER for a total of $1,156.50. To do it I had to slide the card up into the POS terminal and select the first option "1. Visa Debit" and of course enter in my PIN number.

FYI Coles Camberwell (VIC) the Well is now out of stock of the $250 cards. They have $100s still though.

          • +1

            @danielh:

Join the club, mate. I am just as peeved. There is no reason for transaction capping like this, when you are using your card with PIN. They even cap Apple Pay transactions to $1K as well.

I was told during my chat session that there is no cap if I select CREDIT and enter PIN, i.e cap = available balance of your S1 account.

            • @DoctorCalculon: Hiver doesn't seem to know what it is doing with the limits — we're all getting provided with different information. Time to complain.

    • Sorry not answering your question, but keen to know how long did it take for your Hiver card to arrive? I applied on Monday 13/6 (PH) and yet to receive in the mail. Will probably not get to stack further with this promo ending on Tuesday.

      • same here, been waiting about a week now

      • I applied Thursday 9 June and got the card Friday 17 June. Six working days later.

        • I also applied on 9 June and still haven't received the card. My local Coles run out of $250 cards already.

          • @bbking18: The only other thing I can tell you is that your expiry date on your card will be 06/25 so you can at least activate your card in the app but without the CVV number you will not be able to add it to ApplePay (which you actually need to call their 1800 number to verify the card in the app as opposed to the automated SMSes from other finance institutions). I was thinking that you guys could at least try tap and go with the lower $500 limit but not sure how well that would go when trying to explain to the 1800 number operator. :-)
Also was hoping that the HIVER app would allow tap and go but that is a fail as well.

            • @danielh: Thanks. I definitely miss out using Hiver card to pay for these 10% Coles MC this time. I used my Amex to buy them already, 5 on Wednesday and 5 on Thursday. Yesterday I went to my local Coles and they run out already considering they had heaps on stand on Wednesday and Thursday, like half of the gift card shelf. I don't want to spend too much time driving around because I think by now most of Coles probably run out.

Hiver has a total cash back of $250 each year. So I might use it pay for something else once I receive my card. Obviously they might reduce 5% cash back any time.

              • @bbking18: Please note my post above about there may not being a daily limit so you might be able to process multiple sets of 5x$250 gift cards in a day. I would probably make sure that you have sufficient credit in the account NOW and also just lift your daily transaction limit to something like $5k early in preparation.

                • @danielh: Thanks, Danielh.
I think there is a daily limit for tap and go, but not sure. I contacted CS via secure message to request to increase my daily spend limit from $1000 to $2000. They replied advising to activate card first. But I haven't received my card yet. I have already increased my daily transfer limit to $5000 which can be done in app. I will definitely make sure I have enough limit before going on shopping. Cheers.

        • Just now waiting to see if I get $250 added to my account in early July. If so then I'll transfer it then retire the card for 12 months and start again then.

    • You had a very patient operator.

      • +2

She was pretty good. I also helped her out by helping an elderly customer load up his shopping which she was going to do but I was closer.

  • Today, 2pm Friday 17th, Coles Warners Bay has their normal shelf 'stacked' with $250's. Plus they have an extra display which is a large clothes airer, in the middle of the room, with the $250's pegged out on it.

  • I still can’t check balances.

Dusted off an old laptop and that didn’t work.

Tried calling the number and that doesn’t connect any more.

iPhone connects but I can’t click on the traffic lights as the image hasn’t loaded correctly.

    Anyone got a solution?

    • What's the issue? I have checked balance with no issues

      • I can’t verify I am a human.

I’ll try on the laptop again later.

        It’s driving me crazy.

    • @heretosave forgive the foolish question - does it matter much if you can't check balance? I am in similar situation not didn't think it was too important. New to this so trying to get a feel for what's critical and what's not.

If you are concerned about the cards, all the more reasons to move the balance on quickly, eh? And if so, where would you park them?

      • Yeah cause you end up with small amounts on each card.
I like to write that amount and then use it at Coles or Woolworths to finish them off.

        • So much easier using them all up in one go pre-paying utilities or other bills etc.

          • @Coops1: True. I bought discounted cards at Woolworths which left $25 on it. Now I need to use that in full.
Keep telling myself it’s free money so it’s worth it.

Coles Cranbourne Park has lot of 250$ Gift Cards Available. Bought 5 before 1 hr

  • +1

Saw like 30-40 $250's at my local just now. They all stared at me, and I caved and bought one more. Have a few utility bills to pay, so I figured why not. I still cannot believe how many Coles is putting out there. Keep in mind, they're not just losing $18.70 for each $250 card. They likely pay something to Mastercard as well (maybe 1% or 2% or the card value).

    • Suburb? Cant find any in my local coles

      • Any stores restocked?

    • I too fell for their stares today. Thanks Coles.

    • IIRC someone mentioned in old thread that this would be a loss leader for Coles, although I'd imagine their sales revenue (not profit) this week would be through the roof due to the weight (price) of transactions made.
