    • It should as long as the terminal does not enforce chip. I believe some countries have made chip mandatory.

They specifically mentioned a 2.5% currency conversion fee.

      • -1

Damn that’s quite a bit of $$ gone in currency conversion

        • Better than quite a few cards out there!

  • Can I pay my VicRoad registration by the Coles MC GC ?

    • Sure. If you change to quarterly billing then you will be able to pay your quarterly bill with a $250 Mastercard.

  • any other ways to pay that $800+ in 1 go ?

    • I specifically asked this question at the Exhibition Street VicRoads hub when trying to pay for the rego last week (with a couple of Coles MC in hand), and was basically told no.

I presume they want to divert you down the quarterly billing path with the extra service fee if you want to go down the split payment path.

    • -1

If Bill Fairies accepts these cards, there'll be a surcharge, you could buy Bill Fairies giftcards and then use your Bill Fairies wallet to bpay an $800+ bill.

  • +6

There will be extra $2.5 overhead per bill if change to quarterly bill. Not acceptable by Ozbargain spirit.

  • Melbourne…stock $250

  • Bundoora square has a box of $250s but they're inside the storage. At a rough guess, maybe another 80 cards.

  • +2

    No $100 or $250 in

    Tooronga
    Malvern
    Caulfield
In the latter 2 none behind service counter.

    • You didn't go as far as Chadstone or Oakleigh, by any chance?
      Probably too late now.

      • No. Good luck. Strangely I was in Caulfield yesterday and there were maybe 40 $100 cards. Then 24 hours later zilch.

    • +1

Coles Tooronga has stock of $250 at the service desk, probably about 60-70 cards left unless they have more in the drawers.

      • Damn, I was there at 7.15pm tonight to get my Coles Mastercard receipts scanned for FlyBuys. I didn't check with the service desk. Grrrr.

        • Can you get points for these mastercard purchases?

Are you implying you can take the receipts back to coles and get flybuys points added to your account?

          • @slam: Yes you get points. You will need to go the store you bought it from.

      • Thankyou so much, you're a champion. Finally managed to get 5 on the last day. I had given up.

        • No worries mate, here to help.

      • At Tooronga - did they let you purchase some?

        • Yes I was able to purchase and there were quite a few others purchasing as well.

  • Coles Tamborine Oxenford Rd GC had at least 50 x $250 cards at 4:45pm today

At Ingle Farm SA (with two Coles) today during lunch time…

Coles (South) had no $100 or $250 on the shelf.

    Coles (North) next to Kmart:

    • 3 $100s on shelf
    • 0 $250s on shelf.
    • $250 available at the service desk. I secured three $250s, unsure if there are more. Success on the last promo day!
    • I haven been to a couple of Coles in Adelaide Metro today but no luck. Good to hear that you got some :)

  • -3

Does anyone know if these cards can somehow be used to pay the credit card bills?

    • +2

Question has been asked a few times in this (admittedly long) thread. The basic answer is no as you cannot pay a credit card with another credit card.
There are some ways to better use these cards to pay for things like car rego, tax etc though so I would probably start to think about how you would use the Coles Mastercard for things like that and the cash NOT SPENT on those items to be used to pay for your regular CCard bill.

      • -1

Yes, I already know that and paying the some bills, rego etc using this but I was specifically asking for CC as I have accumulated quite a few if this cards.
I understand it has been mentioned on this thread before, but is there any risk in pre-paying the tax to ATO (so as to convert the cards into cash via refund in my bank account) when I am more likely to receive some refund on filing the return even if I hadn't pre-paid anything to the ATO?

        • -1

Even if there is a way, it'll soon be blocked after someone mentions it. Wise debit card topup with a small cost was a feasible way mentioned in the same deal last year.

        • +2

You can't pre pay the ATO.
You can only do this if you are setup for PAYG instalments

        • -2

Why neg my comment? What wrong have I done?

    • Indirectly, yes, see my comment below. Instead of bank account, pay to your CC.

  • +2

I probably should add that if you bought a lot of Coles Mastercard gift cards to go back and claim your FlyBuy points at the store you purchased them from for the points as well. You have 7 days to claim.
Basically you get $1,156 points for 5 x $250 gift cards which represents a bonus 0.5% for you.
    DO IT NOW!!!

    • Does this need to be at the store you purchased from? Or could it be any other coles.

      • Store you got it from.

        • Thanks mate, I'd pressume you need to go up to the service desk and talk to them to get them to scan the receipt and your flybys card.

          • @slam: Yep. Had to do it in three separate stores last night.

    • Oh I didn't scan my flybuys because I thought you don't get points on gift cards?

      • You do not earn any Flybuys points on any purchases of gift cards issued by Coles Group at Coles (e.g. Coles Group & Myer, Coles Express, Officeworks).

You will earn 1x point per $1 spent on purchases of Coles Mastercard gift cards at Coles, as they are actually a third-party gift card (i.e. they are not issued by Coles Group). Coles Group allow InComm and Heritage Bank to use the Coles branding on these gift cards under licence, but these gift cards are not issued by Coles Group.

        • What about Bunnings GC? Do you know if these earn FB points?

          • +1

            @SydneySwan: Probably.

I bought a Bunnings gift card from Coles last year and earned Flybuys points on the purchase of the gift card, but that was before you could earn Flybuys points at Bunnings.

I'm not sure whether this is still the case now you can earn 1x Flybuys point per dollar spent around Bunnings too. My guess is you still can, because Bunnings gift cards are not issued by Coles Group, which means you may be able to double-dip.

      • +1

I've been occasionally been told by Coles staff when these promotions are running that FlyBuys points won't be awarded. As per the above, this is incorrect. Thankfully I've ignored their "advice" :-)

        • +1

Was told the same, knew better. Rather than argue I decided to say: can't hurt to swipe it though, right?

    • +1

Down side of this is crap bonus offers for the next while. I have found I get more points waiting for a bonus offer than scanning for stuff like this.

      • +1

You need a new FB card…

        • I already have 3. Plus, what kind of offers do you think I might get after 10k worth of gift cards?

          • @bigspike: So far just a $100 spend one for this week.

Went to a local Coles yesterday afternoon. There was a stack of $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards behind the service desk. Staff behind the counter said "they're not for sale" when asked.

    • +5

      Lol thats a new one

    • If that staff isnt the manager then I would ask for manager. It’s good to know the reason why they aren’t selling it just for the sake of my curiosity haha

    • Because they want to keep them for their own to rinse and repeat.

    • I went to a store where there were none available as the manger had ordered them all to be removed from the shelves. Not sure what the reason was.

      • +3

At this point I strongly doubt this deal will ever return.

        • Not for the $250 cards anyway

          Maybe the $100's

          • +1

@SaintSteve: People will go crazy for $100 too. Any deal with a multiplier profit effect is a occupational hazard with these folk. But yeah the absence of the $250 card may reduce the entropy(failed yr11 chem so not sure if i'm using that word correctly but i'm using it like you'd use the word chaos)

        • +5

          I think you’re right.

I know I previously predicted (twice) in this deal that the next deal will take on 19 October 2022, but after talking to staff and seeing some of the antics in this deal, I’m very doubtful…

          • I visited one store over the weekend and had a chat with the self checkout assistant whilst I was waiting for my gift cards to activate. They mentioned that store management was very concerned about the number of people who purchased Coles Mastercard gift cards (particularly $250s) using cash, because this is a red flag for money laundering. They also complained about the number of people waiting outside the store at opening time, then getting cranky with the staff for not restocking the gift cards overnight (even though this is not how gift cards are restocked at that store… or pretty much any Coles store…).

          • When I visited a different store on Monday evening, the service supervisor on duty remarked that they never wanted to see this promotion happen ever again, due to some customers being quite rude. This included:

          • Customers complaining about not being able to purchase more than five cards, even after trying to recruit other people to purchase more cards on their behalf (and this store was trying to enforce a five-per-customer-for-the-entire-sale rule)
          • Customers complaining about not being allowed to do split payments when purchasing Coles Mastercard gift cards
          • Customers complaining about not being able to use Coles Mastercard gift cards to purchase any gift cards (including more Coles Mastercard gift cards)
          • One customer lecturing staff (including the store manager) the reason using Coles Mastercard gift cards to purchase more Coles Mastercard gift cards is actually a fantastic idea and then getting frustrated when the staff seemingly don’t get it…

My guess is that if this deal was actually Vanilla Visa gift cards again (rather than the new Coles Mastercard gift cards), it would not have been as popular (or as chaotic), because the “rinse and repeat” method would have been largely unavailable.

I guess we’ll see in four months whether Coles ultimately brings back this deal (or something similar), but I’m definitely not holding my breath.

      • This would not surprise me. As I mentioned above about 40 disappeared from Caulfield in 24 hours.

        • I saw 60x $250 cards disappear from one store in the space of five hours, but I don't think it was due to store management wanting the cards removed…

  • One of our locals had 250s all the way to tuesday night, the other was out of 250s on the first day.

    The card works at Ozlotteries!

Deposited funds cannot be withdrawn by customers. If you have accidentally deposited funds or require the funds back to your account, you can request a one-off refund by contacting Customer Support.

      • Are you saying that any winnings will go back to the same card automatically?

    • Turn your $250 into $25,000,000

  • +3

Yesterday night around 11:30 PM went to Coles no $250 left, only a few $100 on the shelf. This morning around 10 AM went back to the exact Coles. The $250 card is full of stock. Don't understand why they are not letting people to buy it lol

    • +2

      People were inceptioning them

    • probably wanted to go home lol

If someone has heaps of cards and wants to convert them back to cash: Wise (formerly Transferwise).

Add $99.73 to use up a $100 card, add $249.33 to use up a $250 card. Once all added, do a transfer to your regular bank account, $0.57 fee.

Wish I'd realised that a lot earlier than I did, would have bought a lot more cards in that case.

    • It works maybe due to the issuer change.

    • Wow that's great

    • Brilliant!

      What option do you choose?

I selected Add money and Entered $249.33 as the amount, But it says $0.90 as the debit card fees.
I tried with $249.1 and it added 90c to round it up to $250.

Just want to confirm if you are using a different method to net extra 23c from $250 card?

      • +1

Yes, debit card is the correct choice.

Once you add the actual card number the fee reduces to $0.67, bringing the total to $250 exactly.

        • Yep, it worked fine. Thanks!
Used two cards, got blocked on the third, hehe.

          • @HappyPanda: Wonder what the cool down period is before more than 2 can be used.

          • @HappyPanda: I put my own Australian bank details as recipient, and then press send. I am trying to do AUD to AUD, but it says " sorry, you can't send between these currencies right now".

        • Mine says card not in AUD and they charge extra $8.

    • Got through a couple of cards but they have blocked me using more cards now hehe. Good while it lasted

      • Try again tomorrow. I believe they have an overall cap for the day, not user specific.

        • Be careful. I did this last time. And they deactivated my account after a while

          • @vinnychase: Did they give a reason?

            • @team teri: Nope. No email. You get logged out of app and when u try to login it says your account has been deactivated

              • @vinnychase: Wow, thanks for the warning. Too late for me though, I cashed all my cards already. I'll just have to wait and see.

                • @team teri: I had a bit more scale than you maybe?. Actually on the same day they deactivated my sister and mum/dads accounts which i was using for cash out.

          • @vinnychase: Yeah same thing happened to me, wasn't able to sign up again either

          • +1

@vinnychase: Not again! I am still reeling from the ~$600+ scam from special.com.au gift cards and no response on my chargeback yet

            • @knobbs: I didn’t end up losing much money but did lose an amount which I couldn’t be bothered following up on cause everytime I cashed out I would immediately transfer from wise to normal bank account cause I had ptsd from a similar scheme on PayPal

      • Any one been unblocked, used two cards and cannot use any more.

        • I still have pending topups. Got on chat with wise and basically said money laundering checks are going through. So need to wait 2 business days

    • Doing it with "a lot more cards" is a pretty certain way to get your wise account closed.

      • Which still is puzzling me as to why they would care. Surely the fees they charge cover their cost and perhaps create a small profit.

        • +4

I'd say most likely raise AML alarm bells.

          • @Craze: Other than that I think card fraud might also be a concern. After they have sent you the money they have no recourse to get it back should a dispute arise.

    • does this still work?
