    • Its not, its RRP so looks like Click Bait

This comment did not age well 😂

    • -1

      Can you find cheaper elsewhere?

  • +1

Not a deal its a RRP.

Seriously mods are just leaving it up for shits and giggles.

  • By the way the Tesla specific tyres cost $400 each lol and if you don't get them then your driving range is reduced due to higher rolling resistance.

    • What tyre brand?

    • +6

Good tyres in large diameter (19inch and above) have been around that price for a long time lol nothing new
We are not talking about 15inch tyre for ford fiesta here

    • Not a bad price if this is Run Flat Tyre

    • +2

My BMW tyres are like $600 each… runflat 21 inch. And the front and back are differently sized so yay. Honestly $400 is a deal.

    • +2

This is misleading, there is no tesla specific tyres. It should instead be pointed out that teslas come standard with rims larger than most people would be used to and if you want a decent brand/model tyre, it will cost $$$

  • This or the new lexus nx450h+ ?

just went to the lexus dealer and the new lexus 350 or 450 is fantastic and well refined

All the Tesla hater and negative image from the media is nothing new.
Telsa is based on word of mouth, and millions of people will disagree with you, this model y will be the number 1 seller in Australia this year, other car brand have 6 months head start, but won't beat Tesla in term of sale number.
BTW, I order another one, the performance model. Can't wait.

        • elon is a complete douche since he came out with "everyone back to the office" and the fling with amber turd i'm not on his side anymore, i was wrong about him, douche

          • +2

@MrBillions: Huh, what a stupid reason to hate the guy, I agreed with him, get back into the office or get fired, you're hired to work in the office before COVID.
If you don't like it, quit, and find another job. Most people who work from home are slackers anyway.

            • +2

@kml22: They're slackers at the office too though.

At the office, simply turning up from 9-5 justifies their pay to them. At home they at least have to work 50% of the time to show they're not slacking.

            • @kml22: that's so short sighted….

1hr * 2 daily is better invested in work

the office chicks chitter chatter all day

no thanks, i'm more productive at home and go into the office with a purpose instead of putting hours down where I can do the same at home

            • @kml22: Oh look, another jealous person who doesn't get to work from home or understand productivity. What you do for a living? Sell mobile phones?

        • so sings the Apple fanbois lol

Lexus is boring as bird dropping, the same old massive ugly front grill, which they haven't changed for years.
If you like classical music, go for Lexus, although I reckon Lexus have the best car audio of all cars.

      • Lexus is boring as bird dropping, the same old massive ugly front grill,

Lexus seems to be quite popular with Asian boomers that want to upgrade from a Camry.

What Saudi Arabia has in oil, Australia has in uranium. Yet all these "Chernobyl, 3 Mile island, Blinky the fish" zealots won't entertain the idea of abundant energy with net zero emissions. Go figure!

    • -4

Bill Gates has invested in a new zero waste Energy Nuclear Reactor start-up as he believes renewables cannot replace base load power requirements of major developed economies.

Gates also wants people to eat his fake meat.

  • LR confirmed in Australia for 2023… that is all..

Went to Tesla showroom today, never been there before. 95% of visitor's cars were Teslas. Assume there will be a lot of model 3s on sale soon. I was considering Model Y. My first impression - cheap looking/feel interior - very plastic. I imagine it's hard to operate during driving with no buttons, just the touch screen. I will book a test drive soon to try anyway. I understand both people who like it and dislike. I can see now who is Tesla targeting and their business model. They won't be the biggest car producer but they will be selling for higher margin to narrower group of people. Similar to Apple vs Android.

    • +1

      don't understand your theory
Do you seriously think there will be that many people swapping model 3 for model y? I doubt it.
Most would have been there to either just check it out out of curiosity or because they are considering buying another Tesla.

      • Maybe you're right. This is only my assumption as there were not many non-tesla cars in the parking lot (maybe two).

    • +1

If Tesla is the Apple, then which makers will become the Android? Other manufacturers have years of head start before the rise of Tesla, but they were all content with the status quo. We all be very happy if all other manufacturers start selling cheaper EVs with more features and better build quality than Tesla's. But I am not hopeful.

      • +1

Most people will be still buying ICE cars. Simple.

Android will be the more practical/cheaper cars.

        • Very few people is still using the "normal" mobile phone.

      • +2

        BYD

    • remember when apple launch iphone? it had one button vs gazillion button and everyone said it's not going to work…..

  • At what income does a 74k car become reasonable?

    • IMO at the one you can easily save to pay by cash.

    • +1

Well, I only get a car when i can afford to pay cash and able to buy a few of them without stressing my finances out. If not, forget it. Monthly car repayments taking up to >30% of monthly income is nuts to me really unless it's for business. Get something cheaper or put the money to better use.

    • At least 100k?

Circumstances change if it’s a car allowance, salary sacrifice, novated lease, part of your package etc

      • Dunno.. I make that and I don't think it's reasonable to drop 74k on a car..

        • Ahh well. Beauty of it all is we all got choice.

          • @pogichinoy: You're not wrong there.. Would love to own an EV one day though.

      • +1

Free to do what you want with your money but i would never be considering a 70k car if i was on 100k. At that sort of income, 30-40k car max.

  • +10

I love how people pick on Tesla’s because of the price, but ignore that many people buy cars in the price class.

It’s cheaper than a XC90, Touareg, x5, x3 hybrid, E-class, A6…. Like I get it, it’s a lot of money, but maybe you don’t realize what that car next to you on the road actually costs?

    • -3

I believe everyone understands there are more expensive cars out there
Its the fact that this is being posted as a 'Bargain' when its just RRP and is clearly Click-bait. Clearly the mods are turning a blind eye to this stuff and everyone can see.

What you will find is there are not brands out there charging $80K+ for a base model car where it is rated as the worst quality build worldwide. The Tesla has hundreds of YouTube video showing the crap quality build of the car as well as independent reviews.

"Study: Tesla likely the US’ worst carmaker for reliability and build quality"
      https://thenextweb.com/news/study-tesla-likely-us-worst-carm…

Not to mention paying $80K for a rear wheel drive car with VINYL Seats (there is NO leather option)

      • I don't think this car is aimed at people like you : )

        • -3

For $80K I would buy the Hyundai IONIQ 5 any day of the week

Watch any YouTube side by side review of a Tesla Model Y vs Hyundai IONIQ 5 and all the reviewers say they would pick the Hyundai IONIQ 5 due to the Tesla Model Y poor suspension that borders on undriveable.

Guess its easier to attack people than discuss the poor build and quality issues of a Tesla

          • +5

@[Deactivated]: Youtube this, youtube that. It's pointless until you actually drive it yourself.
You are also forgetting that Ioniq 5 is near impossible to buy at the moment unless you are willing to wait stupid length of time.

            • -3

@keejoonc: Watch the Telsa "Tear Down" video and you will see how they rate it as one of the worst build of a car they have ever seen. They rate it as a Kia built in the 1990's

The only technical advantage Tesla has over other electric cars ATM is the smaller more powerful electric motor (due to battery alignment within the motor), battery cells and HVAC pump.

As both the Germans and Japanese have been making electric bullet trains for over 20 years, this advantage in the motor will disappear within 2 years.

Japanese and Koreans have been the leaders in battery technology and this will also disappear within 2 years.

In the end you buy a car for its "drive and comfort" none of which the Tesla Model Y is rated well on.

Add to that the Model Y only comes with VINYL seats and I would get the Hyundai, Kia or Toyota Electric SUV for $80K before a Model Y. I just couldn't bring myself to part with $80K for a car with cheap VINYL seats. Each to their own.

I am also planning to test drive the Model Y over the school holidays and will see if the poor ratings in the 10+ video reviews are true.

              • +4

@[Deactivated]: You seem to be very stuck with the vinyl seats.

Do you realise even entry level Mercedes use Artico leather, which is just a fancy name they came up with for man-made leater a.k.a vinyl?

Don't know what review you watched, but most reviews I watched said it handles and drives well for a SUV weighing 2t albeit the ride is firmer than expected.
I will see if it's any worse than my X3 with 21in rims.

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: Agree. The dislike NPCs strike again…
Upvoted to try to counterbalance their idiocy and incapacity for debate.
            Cheers.
Edit: keejon excepted, as he's been presenting his arguments.

      • +2

mate, leather is so 70s. no thanks

        • -1

If you have been in a full VINYL Seats car, you will soon realise that the inside stinks on hot days.

I would prefer a natural product like leather compared to a oil manufactured artificial rubbish. Not sure how that is so 70s. Each to their own I guess

          • @[Deactivated]: you said you prefer ioniq 5 (I prefer it too), it doesn't have leather

            • @jmel: The Hyundai IONIQ 5 spec sheet clearly says leather seats

              https://www.hyundai.com/content/dam/hyundai/au/en/models/ion…

              Upholstery/trim
              ● Leather appointed seats
              ● Leather appointed steering wheel
              ● Leather appointed centre console armrest w/real stitching
              ● Leather appointed door armrests w/cloth inserts & real stitching

          • @[Deactivated]: I'll be the judge but other people who actually own and used the car for extended period of time (doesnt sound like you have) seem to say this material is not like the crap vinyl material and doesn't have any of the issues you are calling out.
Infinity is also using polyurethane for their "leather" seats now so many manufacturers are going down this path as the "green" and "vegan" movement takes hold. I would prefer natural leather but i wouldnt consider this a deal breaker if it doesn't have any practical issues.

            • -2

@dji1111111: Leather is a natural product whereas Vinyl is man made synthetic from oil.
So tell me again how Vinyl is the new 'green and vegan'?

              • @[Deactivated]: Dont argue with me over dictionary terms mr keyboard warrior. Green and vegan because they are typically described as vegan leather.
Not hard to work out why it's called vegan yourself, is it? Or do i have to spell that out for you too…Geez

    • +2

I reckon the 75k povo trim is a great price for a small EV SUV

      • +1

In the day of 45k for HR-V hybrid and 47k for Civic, 42k for top spec Corolla Hybrid, 72k for full EV SUV is indeed not out of place.
Whether someone wants to spend that kind of money on a car is dependent on their income and personal preference.

  • +1

Can’t do a ski trip easily with a EV car is the biggest deal breaker for me… Australia hasn’t got the infrastructure ready for EV:(

    • +2

Plug into any wall socket overnight at a hotel

      • Roll of the dice to find a wall socket, if it's available and not already used.

Also standard wall socket gets you about 10km range per hour?

So 100kms if you charge it overnight for 10 hours.

Better to find a fast charger somewhere and drink some coffee at the same time.

      • Bonus if you can find one with higher amperage.

Look for those Clipsal industrial plug looking ones (56 series).

    • 6 years ago I saw some chargers in chalet parking around Perisher. Some more now based on charger maps. Waiting time might be interesting tho :)

    • use a fast charger when you are 3/4 the way to the destination.

    • +1

That's nice…you should create another post about it.

      • The review was published today. One way to assess an EV is to compare it to competing EV's

        • How's the EV6's availability?

          • @Magicmannn: Both are available this year

            https://www.kia.com/au/cars/ev6/features.html#update

            https://www.hyundai.com/content/hyundai/au/en/cars/eco/ioniq…

            Whereas Tesla says
            "Order Your Model Y
            Estimated Delivery: Feb 2023 - May 2023"

Which means lets take your money now and deliver in July 2023

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: Where does it exactly say it's available this year?

Tesla only asks you to pay $350 to place the order so I don't know what you are complaining about when you say Tesla will take you money and deliver the car next year.

          • +1

@Magicmannn: Based on posts on Whirlpool, it'll be a long wait. Some people have been quoted wait time of 6-18 months.
Some dealers supposedly are putting massive mark up on the car and selling them well above RRP.

    • +3

This guy…. Smh. Hyundai and Tesla each to their own. I don’t know why you’re wasting your time here trying to convince people of how bad Tesla is. Fairly certain anyone who is putting down 75K+ on a car knows what they are getting into.

      • He really hates Tesla based on the number of posts.

    • And they are not cheaper than Tesla!

    • +3

we get it, you like the EV6 and you like leather..

  • +3

ETA has blown out till at least Feb 2023

  • -2

    Not a Bargain, RRP

  • +2

Absolute bargain for the tech, performance & practicality…can't wait to get my hands on one!

  • -2

Could someone enlighten on the saving on electric cars vs petrol/hybrid? I am listing some of the points i could think of
    - Electric cars cost approximately 2x the petrol car (excluding luxury/high end cars) e.g camry/corrolla - let say the car last approximately 15 years, I can buy 2x petrol car vs 1 electric car
    - Insurance cost higher
    - ~5-7 years down the track, battery packs will cost around 30% value of your car to replace- there goes the petrol savings!!
    - Unplanned trips/unexpected urgent matters when you are low on charge- huge emotional stress!!!

    • Well put

  • Telsla makes nice cars.. but these are just so unaffordable ..

  • +4

ha. in hindsight, this was a bargain. Price now increase by $3500 just now, ~$78k driveway now for NSW.
Title should be modified or deal should be expired.

    • And I thought Tesla price will only ever go down over time.

      • +2

More price increases imminent. Compared to the US, we're still 10-14% cheaper.

        • +1

Yeh. Cant believe how “cheaper” it is in Aus!

      • Historically speaking (with model 3 as an example), its been only going up.

$TSLA shared been coming down tho. :)

    • I guess it was a bargain.

  • Oh dear …

Tesla accounted for most fatalities involving advanced driving systems, says US safety body report
    https://www.drive.com.au/news/tesla-nhtsa-adas-crash-statist…

    • Ah shit, here we go again

    • +1

Tesla consistently rated as either the worst or in the bottom few for reliability. The stats are out there, even if they have good consumer brand support.

It feels good to save the planet and be virtuous.

  • +3

    Just gone up $4k ???

Did they figure out they can just ask for more?

Elon can get stuffed he is a douche and I'm not playing along with that and I won't be buying and this is a comment from a shareholder.

Can I change my vote to downvote please

    • "…In Australia FSD Capability costs AUD$10,100, while Enhanced Autopilot will only set you back AUD$5,100"

      Sounds like an Bargain

      • The best cost money.

      • also when u order base model RWD, adding enhanced AP will make u skip luxury car tax. since it is still under the tax bracket. so yeah be wise when ordering.

Tesla fully ditches radar as Model S and Model X transition to Tesla Vision
    https://driveteslacanada.ca/model-s/tesla-fully-ditches-rada…

As Tesla Vision (its just plain video cameras) has been shown to fail in rainy conditions and fog, this cost cutting measure to remove radar is not good.
