Tesla is promoting slave labour in China.

    • +6

We're all slaves you just don't see it… people work for another tomorrow but fail to live for their today.

      • +5

We may be slaves in mind. But we are not bonded and forced into labour camps by the nefarious Chinese communists to work against our will. The Uygurs are slaves in mind, body but never in soul.

    • +4

People who work for a boss are all wage slaves.

    • +1

I believe whichever tool you used to type this comment, comes from china as well. Just saying

      • Made by slave labour……………..

    • They learnt from Steve and Tim.

Electric cars use more fossil fuel than petrol cars.

A reporter asks where the charging electricity comes from.

    Oh my…. Wait for it.

    Awkward. https://t.co/wcMNhHVSK9

If people really cared about the environment then nuclear plants would be built, all rich people want is for everyone to spend their money, also the batteries in these things would be dead within 10 years-ish, car from early 1900's car still working fine, so which is more environmentally friendly building 1 car or swapping the car 10-20 times over 100 years.

    • +2

the car running on solar after 1 year

    • Yeh I see cars from the early 1900’s driving around all the time!!

      • I see you missed the point, 1970's cars from 50 years ago you see them don't you, point is the battery tech is useless after about 5-10 years, more then oil and gas to make it go… making these cars even more likely to add to tech waste problem.

    This or 1999 Toyota Camry?

      Go the Nissan Cube

      • Too boxey

      • +1

My favorite design. Just brings a smile.
I have always wanted to see them bring out an e-Cube

      • Micra or gtfo

    • I wouldn't drive cars from last millennia, 2000 Camry would be my choice.

    • Ford Telstar TX5. Comes with bonus Rust.

  • +1

Won’t this car kill our weekends?

    • +1

No, Scomo has gone thankfully, but in the USA on autonomous drive it has killed a few emergency workers

    • We will be working weekends in casual jobs to pay for fuel, to get to work in our primary job, to pay for food thanks to Putin. Bring back Tony Abbott, at least he had the guts to shirt front him.

  • +2

Wow, so much hate and so many misinformed people.

The point is: if we want energy independence, and protect the climate, EVs are the way to go. Same as many other things there are shortages right now, meaning current prices aren't exactly bargains. I don't see this post as a bargain, but as a PSA, as such I'm happy that it came up. Easy enough to ignore.

As to EVs: same old, same old: people speculating about battery replacements. Do you ask about the cost of an engine & transmission replacement when you buy a new petrol car? Both are most likely going to happen well before an EV battery dies. In most cases by that time, it is not economical to fix, unless you can find a decent second hand one, same with EVs and their batteries.

Right now EVs are not for everyone. They already make a lot of economic sense for people who drive a lot. Think 30'km a year. Long before the battery wears out they will reap savings compared to an otherwise comparable petrol car. Taxi, Uber, or similar easily drive those distances.

EVs make a lot of sense for people who want to right thing for future generations by supporting an emerging new industry to grow in scale, and then to be able to reduce prices so later everyone can afford one. Look at Solar panel prices for an example on how that worked, all the people who now get them dirt cheap, should be grateful to those who forked out top $ in the early 2000s.

And EVs make a lot of sense for people who enjoy a quiet drive with impressive acceleration, at a price no petrol car will match.

All the others, the people who drive less than 15'km a year, or can only afford second hand cars anyway now, or who haven't even gotten around to install solar panels on their house: wait a few years. Wait for shortages to go away, wait for more manufacturers to sell in Australia, wait for second hand fleet vehicles.

    • If there are any doubts about electric cars, sit in a traffic jam on a summers day and open your car window and breath in.
It's all about evolution, the current ICE vehicle uses the same method as the first Benz. Pump it up and ignite it.

      • People do exactly as you suggest, daily. Strange ‘point’.

    • Gee, if only we had a few unused car factories in Australia that had the capacity to make cars….

    • If Japan can't do it that should tell you something, plus producing fuel also results in supplying 98% of the worlds sulfur which is used in a stupid amount of things. You're only making new problems, plus batteries don't last all that long currently, your just making even more waste…

      • Please educate yourself about how long batteries last and what their CO2 balance is. When talking about waste many forget to include the tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. Sure, it's not as visible as a 400kg battery, but 20 to 50 tons of CO2 do a lot more damage, and that's what your ICE emits over its life expectancy.

Public transport in Sydney is more expensive than driving a hybrid Toyota Camry.

    • My diesel i30 has the same running costs as a hybrid camry.

      • Diesel = More harmful particulates unfortunately.

  • Waiting for more competition so build quality can be improved

  • +1

    Nice.

  • +6

Can we now post every item we see at RRP as a deal

    • +1

That’s not the point. Most EV cars are around 6-10 months before you could get your hands on. These are in Aug. similar to PS deals I suppose.

    • Sure, only if you can get lots of up votes.

  • Are Tesla cars sold in Australia made in US? Or China?

    • Model S was California and the Model 3 from China.

    • China.. like everything else

      • +6

The Shanghai-built cars are made better than American-built ones lol. You cant be mad they're made in China, not like we do it anymore…

        • +4

My Daughter-in-law is made in China.

  • +2

Big tesla fan and what they've done for the EV sector - Waiting for my tesla 3 to be delivered which seems to be atleast another 3-4 months away. But … how is this a deal! :D - this is just RRP isn't it ?

    • Yes. I did put a post in the forum, unaware of this post.

    • I'm more interested in the $TSLA bots that Elon is working on.

It will send the stonks 🚀 🌕.

  • Bought one. Why not?

  • +2

A delivery date of August seems pretty optimistic for an order placed now.

  • +4

I'd rather buy two Corolla hybrids and still have enough change for a few years petrol.
The acceleration speed makes almost no practical difference in real-life driving.

    • +1

Go ahead and buy your boring Corolla, which you will drive 10km under the speed limit to annoy people.

      • +3

The newest Corolla actually looks cooler than the boring Tesla and actually has working door handles that are not stupid.

      • Most speedos are incorrect anyway, as per Australian guidelines of 10%? (or 10KM/H

      • +3

        I wouldn't mind a Corolla GR

        • Me either, GRRRR

    • +1

No idea why the likes of you keep harping on about the cost difference. Nobody buying this car is doing it purely based on petrol savings. Your analogy would only make sense if there was a tesla model y available in petrol engine and it was substantially cheaper.
Some people just get very offended by how others spend their money.
Corolla is not even anywhere near the same in terms of size of model y! Why stop there? Just bloody buy a yaris and save more money.

      • Great idea.

        • +1

Great man. Happy for you. You can take the money you saved to your grave
Please be consistent and make sure you don't spend a single dollar recklessly since that seems to be your sole goal in life. Must be really fun lol

  • -1

I don't think this is a deal (since only RRP) but upvote anyway :p

    • At least the price for this is RRP, unlike Graphic Card which before was way over the RRP and people keep posting it.

  • +1

    Bought one.

  • +1

Finally!! Saw this a few times in Europe.

Not my cup of tea because I prefer a larger SUV like the X but great to have more variety in the market.

  • Most new this was coming, so here it is reflecting the times we live in…

*** For sale: Confirmed order reservation with email for Y-RDW model, with delivery Aug-Nov 2022 ***
You can only dream now ordering and getting one this side of Xmas and I'm negotiable on the deal.

Reason for sale: The entire world would be reduced to ash in just over a month.
And before you ask, NO! I don't believe 5G cause Covid… I'm not crazy!? Muhahahaha!

    • +9

      You ok bro?

  • -1

for someone that has no knowledge/that much interest in tesla sedans, what exactly is the Y?

a tesla SUV perks my interest but this is not it is it?

edit: the SUV is the model X - when is that coming to Australia?

    • +1

      what exactly is the Y?

      S 3 X Y

    • +1

The model X is the large SUV which has been in Australia for several years.

The model Y is the smaller SUV based on the model 3 platform.

    • It's a model 3 lifted 5cm and for some reason that makes it an "SUV"… Seems pointless to me.

      • Longer, wider, higher and a massive boot area

  • why would they offer a different config in the US???

    US
    https://www.tesla.com/modely
    Long Range AWD and Performance

    vs

    AU
    https://www.tesla.com/en_au/modely
    Rear Wheel and Performance

i want the long range awd!!!! Not the rear wheel or performance.

    • Long Range AWD will cost $90K AUD is my prediction, worth it?

      • I think it will be about $85k. Y seems to be about $5000 premium over model 3

  • +1

Time to figure out how to pay for this high yield investment car

  • -8

What kind of sh*t bargain is this. Not even worth the effort when petrol is $5

  • +2

Petrol head, dinosaur who negative vote.

  • +7

Wheres the deal? seems to be RRP

    • +6

      It is RRP.

    • -4

Have you seen it cheaper somewhere else?

      • +3

So that is the standard this site uses now, As long as it is not on sale somewhere else we can post any product as a deal at RRP?

        • Yeah, and people who have no interest in buying this will upvote because it's the cool thing to do.

          • @cnut: I agree - hence the upvotes for deals on Ozbargain are just a flag to dig deeper if interested.

        • -1

RRP is just an arbitrary value to fool people that something is reduced. If a retailer can't determine what price to sell something at, they shouldn't be selling it.

What you get for your money determines if it's a bargain, for you.

    • -1

      The deal is the car.

      It’s the real deal.

  • +1
  • +3

I guess I need to read the rules to understand the repeated question: if it’s not shown to be a deal, why is it here??

  • -1

tested drive before, feels like a very expensive toy rather than a car…
    BMW i4 is better

    • +6

Was understanding of your comment until you mentioned BMW lol

      • They always say some EV is better than Tesla, but never tell us why it's better.

  • Where is the bargain tho?

  • +5

Love it when some commodores always trying to race with me model 3 off the red light.

I let them win every time so i can laugh inside knowing they are burning petrol at $2.2/L.

    • +1

      👍

    • +1

Surely Commos aren't really winning too many stoplight races anymore… So many hot hatches around now that would blow the doors off them (and a rwd Tesla for that matter, awd ones would give the hot hatches a good run).

      • I never try to win any of the stoplight races because 1. too much burden on rear tyre 2. its 0-100 is not that fast but plenty fast enough than 90% of the car on the road which means it's pointless to try at all, there's nothing to prove.

What i'm truly amazed is a lot of people here are in denial about EV vs ICE, i'm sure they are enjoying themselves when trolling Tesla but bleed inside nonstop at the petrol pump cursing Putin and petrol company why $2.2/L.

        • -4

$2.20/L cost me an extra $40 or $50 extra at the pump for a tank of 98, barely notice it in the budget. Sub 4 second 0 - 100, shits on every Tesla except maybe the performance for a 3rd of the price. I'll move to EV when the prices come down to match that.

          • @cheekymonkey97: Mate it cost me $10 for a full battery charge from 0-100%, and I never ran it down to 0% anyway, I hate to be at the mercy of petrol company but hey maybe you have different opinion.

0-100 for a 21 m3 is about 5.2sc so, what are we arguing here, no trying to be a hero on freeway.

Prices for EV won’t come down in the foreseeable future thanks to war and supply chain disruption.

          • +2

@cheekymonkey97: What does sub 4 sec 0-100 for $34,000 drive away? A BMW M3 would have trouble.

In any case the Model 3 long range would give you a good run with no drama and kill you at any rolling race. Would not even be a contest.

And at 200,000km the Tesla would perform the same and your hotted up ICE would be in the junk yard.
