                • @dtpearson: Yeah, and that's just what you know about.

But you're still advocating supporting the chinese regime. The vast majority of your spend isn't going towards supporting peasants, and there isnt a single large company in china that operates out side the CCP's control.

    • $TSLA isn't the same as other junk China made EVs.

  • +1

yeah I am going to look at model 3's I think.

  • Is this Made in Germany?

    • +3

near the border of Germany and China

    • +2

Does it many any difference with Tesla quality control?

      • Hard to say. What is a known problem is that the US-made vehicles have a poor quality. Doors that won't open or close, panels that don't align, etc. Just browse YouTube to see Tesla's "quality" in its full glory.

I imagine that the cars made in China or Germany may suffer fewer problems. But hard to tell, really. Some of the quality problems may be due to low-skilled workers in US factories. Another reason may be Tesla's broken company culture.

      • Think it can, yeah. Hard for manufacturers to effectively assure their QMS internationally (or even domestically lol, just look at Boeing). There are plenty of brands where particular factories have a bad reputation. Not sure about Tesla but since he's asking, maybe there's a difference.

      • It will be competing with a German made BMW EV range, at this price range. Build quality of BMW out of Germany is top-notch

  • +1

Insurance cost is a killer on it.

  • +1

Ordered it this morning - thought about posting but its not really a deal other than its open for finally ordering.

    confirmation email received re: order.
But no other ETA once logged into Tesla account.

  • +2

It takes around one year for your carbon emmisons to be offset for a TESLA car.

If you can afford an electric please choose the FUTURE.

    • +6

      Lol.. this is a joke…

    • +2

no thanks, I like my manual 3.0L 6cyl turbo rwd

    • -2

Why would I care about future where I won't exist nor will I have the conscious to know that the future exists?

      • the question u should be asking is why would you bother when you'll own nothing and you'll still be happy

    • Yes please buy electric so that you can offset my 6.0 V8

      • I loved my 6L V8 Holden SS, I loved my 4.2L V8 Audi more. And I like my 0L Tesla Model 3 Performance FAR more than either. 0-100 in 3 seconds really is next level. My old V8s feel SLOOOOOOOWWWW now.

  • +1

I have been waiting for this forever but I think I will wait some more and buy it when it comes with the structural pack with 4680.

    • where did it say this is not the 4680? I thought production switched to 4680 for all Model Ys?

      • No it hasnt yet. My understanding is that structural battery pack plus 4680 is only in the factories aka Austin and Berlin

  • +1

    Thanks op, really solid deal.
    Just ordered 10.

  • the website is dead

  • +4

What advantages does this motorcar have over say, a train? Which I could also afford.

  • +1

Unfortunately no 7 seater for Aus

  • +1

    I m cancelling my preordered Lexus hybrid…lol

  • No ventilated seats, good luck with sweating.
I will order once Elon add them.

    • Seats in Tesla's cheaper models are made from plastic with no option to choose cloth or leather. No thank you.

  • So does anyone know if the mobile connector is included with the car? Thanks.

    • +1

Yes it is. It was never disappearing outside of US/Canada markets (with their 110V home power outlets).

      • Thanks.

  • +3

Hmmmm, so if I buy enough Coles $250 Mastercards from this deal next week, I'll be able to bring down the Tesla Model Y RWD $74,311 price by 7.2% to ~$68,960.

    That is about 297 x $250 mastercards. :-)

  • Dealer texted this morning to say website is open for 'Y' orders, then asked for the reservation number.
Is this to do with who gets the commission on the sale?

  • +2

Will the Labor Electric Car Discount apply to this in the new financial year? Sounds like it would? For Victorians, Labors discount could also bring the entry level Y within the limits of the Vic ZEV Subsidy, knocking a further $3000 off.

Might be worth waiting - although there'll be a very long wait if you do!

    • When can we reasonably expect this to happen if it happens? Will it still apply if delivery occurs after this becomes law?

      • If the car is being bought & paid for in the next FY the new rule should apply I reckon

  • +4

    where is the discount?

    • discount != bargain

      • Um, literally is. Without a discount it's not a bargain.

  • I've been waiting on model Y. Are there any demonstration models in Sydney?

  • Thanks. Was just about to buy a 1994 Hyundai Excel with 420,000kms. But this is a much better deal.

  • +1

    no Long Range!! OMFG

  • Ordered but haven't received an email yet.

  • +2

It's a shame the RRP is just a touch over the Vic Gov EV Subsidy threshold of $68,740

    • +1

Wonder what the strategy was here. They could absolutely have brought it down by $160 to get it under the threshold, but deliberately chose not to.

      • Making it harder for people to buy it.

    • I thought that too, but its on driveaway price which is $75k so you're way out.

  • +6

the idea of tesla being a bargain is such a hilarious clown act and you are all making this website into a joke

enjoy your premium connectivity access subscription with your bargain vehicle tho

    • +1

Why you mad though? Have you looked at how much a RAV4 cost these days?

      • For once that there is a Tesla that is affordable for the target audience and priced similarly to its competitor.

    • $10 a month for Telstra internet in the car, that's a bargain too. Stop being salty, if you can't afford to save money then move on.

  • +1

    Im in

  • +1

Ordered the basic model, white in colour and with 19’’ wheels.

  • Ordered. I wonder how many of the base models they’ll actually deliver in 2022. In the US, prioritisation is given to those who pay the FSD up charge.

    • +1

That alone is a fairly brazen move that makes me not want to buy a Tesla. Why should anyone pay $10k upfront for vapourware with a death toll? Nobody can tell if they'll ever going to deliver on their lofty promises for self driving. And even if they can: charging people for a promise with an indeterminate ETA is just not acceptable.

      • +2

The 10k is more like a discount earlybird price.

If they manage to make them truly autonomous, it'll seem like one hell of a bargain.

        • +1

still need to wait for legislation to regulate use, in Australia anyway. we're laggards in that regard.

        • Not really, no. It's a free loan that you give to Tesla. With no interest, suffice it to say.

Don't get me wrong: Fully autonomous driving will be a fantastic piece of tech. I'll applaud whoever matures this into a product that is safe and reliable first. But it's not like Tesla is the only company working on this stuff. Most car manufacturers and suppliers drive similar R&D efforts. It's not even obvious that Tesla has the most advanced technology at this stage. Or how many months they would be ahead of their competition's own efforts. They sure make the most noise though.

At the end of the day, autonomous driving technology is mostly software. Once developed, it'll cost nothing to install on vehicles. I don't even see a price tag of $10k to be sustainable / justified then. In a matter of a few years, this will run on a commoditized hardware stack and be available to all car manufacturers. Politics may even require OEMs to integrate full self driving capabilities by law. By then, likes of Waymo (Google) will be all too happy to provide this technology to any party that's interested. Much like they license Android to phone manufacturers.

The only thing that the $10k buys you is the hope that Tesla may bring this to market first. Oh, and that it won't kill a good share of its beta testers, ahem "early adopters".

  • Now I just need an exhaust system

  • Cheap as chips

  • -2

    Thanks OP.
    LoL
    Telsa haters need not apply

    Glad Apple don't make cars,…..

    • -2

Imagine if Google AND Apple made cars….

Would the Apple car come with a USB C port?

  • Can those who are ambivalent about Tesla apply?

  • +5

I'm surprised how negative Tesla is received on OZB, trending against the record sales of Tesla in Australia in 2021 and continuing demand of Tesla cars worldwide..

    • +1

Have you seen Elon's tweets? Guy sounds like a twat.

      • +4

Why does how you feel about Elon need to come into consideration when it comes to the car? Do you research and judge other car manufacturer CEOs before buying a vehicle?

        • Yes. Toyota donates/lobbies to election result deniers in GOP in the US. I love democracy. So I don't buy Toyota either.

  • 105k sheeshh i know i know its cheap compared to the competition buy sheeeshh id settle for a i30n sedan for 50k, or a kona N for 50k. 4 door fun performance on a budget fully loaded

    • +1

I had an i30n on order from the start of 2021. Cancelled it for a Model 3 in August. Glad I did, it's a much nicer car than the n cheaper to own and quicker. Win win win

      • -1

you made a huge mistake my friend, good things come to those who wait, i watched a youtube review where they mentioned (i30 N sedan) handles better than an m3, let that sink in. a fwd being hailed by two professional car reviewers as better handling than a track ready m3 competition. not to mention the amazing power band, the amazing sound and crackle, the amazing list of standard features and the overall complete package.

        • people think that just cos a car can go from a to b faster = performance and handling.

          • @neirboca: we are talking about performance cars yes. its a big deal to me, and others, if you dont care about that just get a Camry hybrid that is great on fuel and much cheaper than both mentioned cars

    • +2

And why should it be compared to the much smaller Kona? This is the size of a GLC/X3 and priced very well, even more so if you consider performance? What is the cheapest SUV that can do 0-100 in 3.7 seconds from the factory?

      • obviously not in the same league i know, i was just saying what you can get as far as a performance SUV for half the price, is it gonna match it in performance? hell no neither should it be expected to, but it will damn sure deliver at least %75 the same performance for costing half of the tesla. not to mention the much likely better finish and build quality by in the Hyundai.. and it sounds amazing (id still choose the i30 N sedan over the kona myself as the better track car)

  • +12

    RRP is not a bargain.

    • +4

Not even RRP. These don't have Government rebates so you're paying more.

    • +4

Tell that to modern markets like ps5 market, if it’s available that’s the best deal you can get.

      • +2

PS5s are available with cash reward rebates and gift card discounts, my PS5 only costs me $689. You cannot fund this with any of those and even if you could via discounted interest rate loans that would be a targeted offer.

        • -1

Time to get creative champ! Start referring friends!
Yea my PS5 cost me a bit less through amazon pre order, but not everyone could get that, and even if you have cash rewards or gift cards, it would have to be available at that store that you have the cards for, and in stock, and you would have to beat everyone else. So it's almost unachievable.

      • +3

Hopefully there's a deal on dictionaries soon, so you can look up the word bargain.

        • I'll hold my breath while you find a cheaper deal.

  • Sadly, the long range version is not (yet?) being sold in Australia.

However, the Model Y's delivery times are comparatively good, all things considered. Other manufacturers may produce better EVs, but have delivery times of a year or more. A two months best case for the short-range Model Y is very good in comparison.

Still, I wonder for how much longer Tesla can control the EV market. Most car manufacturers are now ramping up their EV production, often putting out models that are more appealing than Tesla's fairly spartan/cheap looking interior. Not to mention the poor build quality of US-made Tesla cars. Saw a Model X just yesterday where the front and rear doors couldn't agree where to align. When are they finally going to fix this?

  • Awesome ordered one! Didn’t like the back of the Model 3 this is much better looking

  • -1

Thanks ordered 3 in matching colours just in time for the recession to hit.

  • Book a test drive!

  • This has to be the most comical post I've ever read. Thank you everyone.

  • -1

    Coal all the way.

  • -1

It's funny how they say : 30,000 Superchargers worldwid. As if it will be driven worldwide from my doorstep….Oh yeah.. where's the supercharger with my 10km radius?

    • +3

True, but you'll mostly be charging at home. Public charging is for emergencies or long-distance driving.

  • +1

    no long range
    -25km for environmental factors
    So 430km IRL

    • +2

Average Australian drives 16km a day.

      • +2

tell the people on M5 M7 everyday

        • +1

tell the people that use public transport too

        • +2

key word: average. M5 and M7 user doesn't represent whole of Australia.

      • highly unlikey, probably more like a 40-50km round trip is much more realistic.

        • Census data. So 100% likely and actual.

    • +1

No long range does suck but (profanity) it I just ordered the performance instead.

Actually a bonus because I think I'd have a hard time justifying the performance to the wife if the LR was available.

  • im a long time off buying an ev car, if ever… but given the price of my electric bill over the past 2 years, even the past several how i've been bitching about it… i'm interested to know in how average running costs would really compare. like how much is it costing to 'fill-up' the tesla, based on an average daily usage…?
