Costs me about $9 to fully charge mine at home. That gets me on average around 360kms

      • thats current? like this year?

whats a car generally like 20-25km per litre on the "high efficiency" end?… so like ~17litre per 360kms or so, 17x$2/ltr or so = $34ish..

so like 3-4x cheaper… ok pretty crazy…. non ev pretty unsustainable, unless of course they stop deliberately fixing oil markets to soft crash the economy and lock people down financially.

      • factor in km tariffs yet?

    • $12 in loss of feed in Tarif from solar, for around 500kms. Maintenance will probably be about 1/3 cost of my petrol car in the short term, even less in the long term.

  • +1

Since when rrp counted as a deal? Tesla's a new Apple for fanboys?

  • Game over, ozbargined.

    • You're an odd one.

  • +1

Warranty could be better 80k kms on battery? Really

    • +3

8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period. Assuming it is the same as Model 3.

  • nice

  • +1

    Performance ETA of Nov-Feb 2023

Elon's done it, the Performance goes forward and back in time

  • Didn't receive an email confirmation of my order. Can anyone else confirm their experience?

  • +4

0-100 @ 6.9 seconds seems a bit on the slow side.

    • +3

That's not a problem for most people. What is a shame is that they don't offer the long-range version in Australia.

    • +1

6.9s is slow? damn man like…..

      • +2

Ain't gonna win any pink slips with a 6.9s

      • +1

        1.5 usain bolt power

      • Not slow, just slower than other Teslas.

The current Roadster does 0-100 in 2.1 seconds.

        • current roadster? you mean the one in the cad drawings? i think there is only 2 in the world and they are unfinished concepts. that car is probably coming out in 5 years in usa and probably 2030 aussie launch

    • +2

Really quick off the mark though. Will be faster than 90% of vehicles up to 50-60kph.

  • +10

OzMarketing. No Ozbargain to see here.

  • +1

Still waiting for my cyber truck preorder…

    • +2

Look on the bright side: by the time you actually get it you'll be too old to hear everyone's derisive laughter

  • Electricity is skyrocketing…. won't be long for a fast charge to cost more than a tank

    • +3

Petrol prices are going up too! Just wait until the gov puts the taxes back on petrol….. Will be more than double the worst that electricity could be.

    • +3

Fuel prices are going to increase in lockstep, if not faster. With electricity at least, you can put solar panels on your roof. And solar prices are coming down all the time.

    • +1

I’m pretty sure it will be long

    • install solar and charge during the day?

      • And drive your diesel to work…

        • if you work from home like most people these days. go out after work and night time, other than that i got nothing for ya just drive the diesel

    • won't be long for a fast charge to cost more than a tank

      Already happening…

      • Well that's the thing … charging with solar only works if you don't drive during the day… which is pointless argument. You'd need to be invested in battery which doesn't make much economic sense atm.

I think the better option is a phev … you can still do your average runs on electricity and have the convenience of petrol when you do your long distance. The weight argument doesn't hold up cause a bev battery weighs just as much. Might cost a bit more in maintenance but I can't imagine what tesla costs to maintain especially outside warranty.

  • -1

    HODL.

Need more charging options to be viable for a weekend trip.

  • +7

While this is great to hear, there is no sale/bargain here. And it shouldnt on OzBargain.

    • -2

The positive votes tell a different story

      • +14

The positive votes obviously don't know what this site is all about. We are here to post and share about deals, bargains and sales on items and services. Just because something was unavailable and/or out of stock and is now in stock does not satisfy the requirements for it to be posted on OzBargain. Routinely posts of this nature get removed. If Tesla were to have a EOFY discount sale on their existing models, then I would happily be the first person to give that an upvote.

        • We have posts like this all the time and the majority find it useful to be advised that something is now available. Is it technically a deal, no, but its useful to too many people to be removed.
It could also be argued that finding out about it sooner means you are earlier in the queue so that is a bargain as I imagine 2022 cars are going to sell out quickly.

  • These are selling for 80k new with low milleage - easy money if you have the capital

    • Doubt it, and not for long anyway.

    • I prefer my new cars to come with (almost) zero mileage.

  • Make sure you post on the Whirlpool forums as well.

  • +1

Weren't these meant to be like half the price of a model 3?
I feel Tesla's dominance days are numbered, similar to what happened to Nokia.
Were once a pioneer, now lagging behind the industry.

Yes China can copy and duplicate everything but when even Tesla is purchasing Chinese (BYD) batteries you know their market share is quickly going to be eroded.
They're going to quickly be caught between a prestige brand and a budget brand, doing neither particularly well.

    • LOL

    • What are you talking about? No they’re not supposed to be half the price of a model 3.

    • +1

If you truly believe this then short Tesla stock and see if you're right in 5 years time.

    • Model Y is a larger SUV version of the Model 3, no it was never meant to be cheaper.

  • whats the difference between this and model 3?

    • +1

      This is SUV body.

      • +1

        thanks man.

Read online all the stats, completely missed the shape was different

    • you would've had your answer right away by googling

      • +2

except he had it in 4 minutes in a format that was already consolidated by someone who had a significantly better than "just googled" understanding of the difference
and had the answer posted in public forum for all others with the same question to benefit from

        • +1

that's true! my apologies, didn't click with me that others could have the same question.

      • yeah point taken. Sometimes in life i dont want to research everything under the sun, want to be a normal ozbargainner so people like you can say what you just did.

  • +1

Goodness me, that's an ugly car, especially the front

    • +3

Yeah, desperately needs two big fake radiator grills like a BMW EV.

      • +2

Honestly? Yeah. A car front end that's just one big uninterrupted slab looks weird.

        • With a Cd value from 0.22, the Porsche Taycan offers the best drag coefficient of all current Porsche vehicles.

The Model Y has a drag coefficient of 0.23

  • I heard the electricity price is increasing.

    • +3

Not if you have solar ;)

      • Not much use to charge your car when you get home in the winter…

        • +1

          Petrol car for winter?

        • There is no sunlight in winter?

          • -1

@serpserpserp: Not when I drive home from work.

            • @jv: Hopefully you don't use up the ~400km of range on your commute then.

    • Don't worry coal is coming to save us

  • -7

All the haters angry because they live pay check to pay check. Maybe consider working instead of having a life since it's not good anyways since you can only afford to be online

    • +1

Jokes on you. They can also take out high interest loans to go on holidays.

  • -1

Even though they're zero emission it still takes up to 150,000km for them to be carbon neutral..

    • +3

Oh dear, someone's regurgitated the petrol companies own propaganda

      • +1

        For the lazy:

“ Based on a series of assumptions, the data showed that a Tesla Model 3 in the United States, for example, would need to be driven for 13,500 miles (21,725 km) before it does less harm to the environment than a Toyota Corolla.”

        • +2

Yep so 130,000k's powered by coal
          14,000k's if powered by hydro
22,500k's if powered by a combination.

Given that 90% of cars would be driven in excess of 130,000k's in their lifetime then i feel it's a fair assessment to say that it's beneficial in the long term.
Not to mention greatly reduced maintenance costs and waste.

          • +1

@Drakesy: Plus no tailpipe emissions where people live!

        • "Based on a series of assumptions" - Foremost of those being most of the electricity being sourced from coal. Most Tesla owners are likely to have solar PV systems at home.

  • +6

how is that a bargain, more like an ad to me.

  • Bargain…

  • +3

Imagine living such a sad life that a Tesla is enough to make you angry. Gonna need some high blood pressure tablets for people in this deal.

  • +7

Should have been posted on OzRRP.

  • +7

There's no bargain here, it's just being sold for RRP

    • +3

Ozbargain is no longer bargains, the last two years of PS5/Xbox posts have ingrained that

      • +1

and the $1500 video card deals

    • I understand why this is confusing, but all you have to do is think about it for a moment: what is a bargain?

The answer of course, is any price better than the usual minimum price of the same item, or alternatives/substitutes.

Also helps to realise that an RRP is an arbitrary made-up number, pulled out of a marketers arse, with no relationship to the actual value of the item.

So whether something is "RRP" or "normal price" or "discounted" or not has nothing whatsoever to do with whether it's a bargain or not.

  • +3

Finally will make use of eneloop deal

  • +1

I was refreshing the order page almost everyday and now that the page is available I am not convinced. The fact that they increased their price making VIC prospective car buyers ineligible for the rebate….a head scratcher. I have booked in a test drive and will probably wait for federal EV rebates to kick in on 1st July.

    EDIT: Potentially Tesla model Y will not be eligible as Australia has Tariff free imports with US and China {Source}

  • Extra 10k for auto pilot? It's like extra for checkin baggage on jetstar

    • no its not.. with jetstar you get something for your money. auto pilot will never be working… dont get me wrong, tesla is a cool car, but auto pilot is BS, why anyone would pay 10k for something which they will never see in their's or their cars lifetime is mind boggling.

    • +1

Auto pilot and Full Self driving are different. Auto pilot is included in all recent Tesla for free.

  • +1

    I'm waiting for the Cybertruck

    • As long as you don't try too hard…

      • +1

Apparently the windows broke because they were weakened from the guy hitting the doors with a sledge hammer just prior to this

    • Don't hold your breath, its looking like 7-10 years.

  • +2

Has anyone mentioned the obligatory "thanks op, just bought 10" comment yet? If not, thanks Op, just bought 10

  • +1

dont know why so many upvotes… in the future we will own nothing… and we'll still be happy so why bother wasting 75k?

    • in the future we will own nothing…

      The majority, yes.

The minority will own unconfiscated assets.

  • Oz bargainers can't complain that they haven't bought a house yet with all these deals going on

  • Cheap.

    $TSLA is the way.

  • Grabbed 10.

    • Are you reselling any on Ebay at Inflated prices?

      • I am keeping my eyes on gumtree next week 😉

  • At this price point, are there EV rebates in any states? Base Model 3 is the only one that qualifies so far, right?

    • +1

you'll notice the price in ACT is $5000 cheaper. ACT has an uncapped stamp duty WAIVER for EVs, so you just pay less rather than claim it back
