2 deals together which one is better Coles one or this?

Choose both mate. Purchase the coles mastercard and use it in Woolies to buy the Ultimate gift cards.

        Cheeky 😁👌🏻

        • Not cheeky, smart!!!

    • +9

It depends on whether you want to spend money at any of the retailers participating in the Ultimate gift card scheme:

      • If yes, go to Coles, purchase some of the Coles Mastercard Gift Cards, then go to Woolworths and use those Coles Mastercard Gift Cards to pay for the Ultimate gift cards you want from this deal. (It should work, as I did not get any errors when I tested to see whether I could use a Coles Mastercard Gift Card to purchase a gift card at Woolworths last week.)

      • If no, go to Coles.

      • +2

Looks like I'm visiting Coles anyway 😊

      • how much total i can save by combining both ? I got ultimate eats last time (for Nandos) at 20% off, resulting in 2 free meals over the time … $250 GCs in $200.

        • +1

If you use a $100 Coles Mastercard Gift Card: 14.95%

If you use a $250 Coles Mastercard Gift Card: 16.732%

Obviously, if you’re not in a hurry to restock Ultimate Eats gift cards, it may be worth holding out until another 15% or 20% discount offer crops up.

@wookiemonster, can i get the coles discounted mastercard online ?/?, if so, please can you share the link. or advise when i can get it from?? Store??

      • Thanks.
I'm having a promotion from CBA: Spend $100 get $10 back.
Do you know whether buying this Prepaid MasterCard still gives me CBA cashback?
        Thanks

        • +1

I believe it does as it is considered 'grocery shopping' as opposed to buying something like these Ultimate gift cards.

        • +2

As long as your offer is for spending in-store at Coles, it should stack.

CommBank has no way of telling whether you’ve spent money on a gift card or groceries (unless you provide a copy of the receipt), so gift card spend should be okay.

You’ll also see in previous CommBank cashback deals at Coles that a lot of people were able to stack their cashback offer with the purchase of a gift card.

As a side note: CommBank can tell whether you are getting cash out (i.e. withdrawing money) at Coles, so you cannot stack the CommBank offer with EFTPOS cashout.

          • +1
          • @WookieMonster: Another question - can I buy these Ultimate Gift Cards along with my groceries using WISH gift cards? If they don't allow that, will they ask to split the bill, so groceries will be paid with WISH GC, and Ultimate GC will be paid with cash/bank cards?
            Thanks.

            • +1

              @Averell: Nope.

You cannot use a WISH gift card (or any gift card issued by Woolworths Group) to purchase any gift cards at Woolworths (or BIG W, for that matter). Woolworths thoroughly patched their checkout systems in late 2018 to stop this from happening, even if you scan groceries with the gift card.

If you want to use a WISH gift card to pay for groceries and you also want to get an Ultimate gift card, you’ll need to purchase the groceries and Ultimate gift card in separate transactions.

  • Ultimate Him card for 10% off Binge, unless there is anything better for Binge discount ?

From what I've read, gift cards that can be redeemed at Streamotion are sold at a 15% discount everyday at Costco, but that assumes you live near a Costco and have access to a Costco membership.

Other than that, 10% is a good discount for Streamotion services. The best discount rate you can access everyday is 7% (according to the OzBargain wiki).

      • +1

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately don't have access and it's about 1hr drive to Costco for me.

  • +1

Can you buy Apple products at JB Hifi and use these gift cards? Thanks

    • +3

      Yes (including Apple gift cards)

      • One of my friends saying he cannot use a gift card (TCN/Ultimate cannot remember) to purchase apple gift card if the TCN/Ultimate gift card does not have an EFTPOS sign. He got declined on this card while the other card having EFTPOS working fine. Can you please confirm if the current Ultimate Card sold in WWS include the EFTPOS sign or not?

        • +1

          That's weird.

I went to JB Hi-Fi two weeks ago to purchase an Apple gift card. I used a physical Ultimate Visa gift card as the payment method and it worked.

The gift cards pictured in this week's catalogue operate on the Visa network but there is no Visa logo anywhere on the gift card itself or on the cardboard packaging.

The older Ultimate EFTPOS gift cards have been pretty much phased out from my local Woolworths stores for many months now. However, you can identify them by:

          • looking at the packaging (the EFTPOS gift cards sit on the cardboard packaging, the Visa gift cards sit inside the cardboard packaging)

          • looking at the card number (the EFTPOS card number starts with 502125, the Visa card number starts with 457824)

          • looking at the front of the gift card (the EFTPOS gift card prints the participating retailers' logos on the front of the gift card on a white background, the Visa gift card only prints a small QR code on the front of the gift card on a coloured background)

    • You can get apples at the fruit store.

      • Although, perhaps ironically, you can’t use an Apple Gift Card to buy apples

  • Is there a reason why some of the stores are in bold?

    • +1

Hard to get discounts at those stores usually.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

    • +9

      Emphasis.

There are particular stores that OzBargain typically cares about when it comes to gift card deals (particularly 10% or 15% off Ultimate gift cards), and I have bolded them so that they stand out from the sea of participating retailers.

      • JB Hi-Fi is bolded, because a lot of people on OzBargain like seeing gift card deals for gift cards that can be redeemed at JB Hi-Fi (plus there is no known limit for the number of Ultimate (or TCN) gift cards that can be redeemed in-store, so there is not a lot stopping you to redeem 81 gift cards in one transaction in-store at JB Hi-Fi).

      • The Good Guys is bolded, because they are a relatively popular merchant on OzBargain (even if it is not as popular as JB Hi-Fi).

      • EB Games is bolded, because quite a lot of people want to stock up (e.g. for consoles), plus it is harder to access discounted EB Games gift card discounts than JB Hi-Fi gift card discounts.

      • I don’t exactly remember why I bolded Deliveroo or Menulog, but I think it was because a lot of people who purchase Ultimate Eats gift cards were specifically purchasing them for Deliveroo or Menulog.

(Can you tell I wrote a computer script that extracted a list of participating retailers from the Ultimate gift card website and converted it into a form that can be used on OzBargain?)

      • +1

        Great work

Menulog is great with the Daily $5 off that has been going since February but Deliveroo hasn’t been working for me

        • +1

You’re far from the only person who is unable to redeem Ultimate gift cards on Deliveroo. There’s been plenty of complaints on OzBargain about it not working on Deliveroo since Dec 2021…

          • @WookieMonster: Is Menulog now back on the list with Ultimate Eats? Thought it was taken off quite recently but I haven't tried in a while.

            • +1

              @Craze: Yep.

It was removed from the list not too long ago, but it was added back to the list a bit over a week ago.

              • @WookieMonster: I shouldn't complain but it's annoying that they're removing/reinstating participating retailers randomly without much notice either (I understand it's part of the T&C)

                • @Craze: I wonder whether its removal was even intentioned.

I checked the balance of an Ultimate Thanks gift card a few weeks ago (whilst Menulog was supposedly removed from the Ultimate Thanks gift card), and it still showed Menulog as a participating retailer on that balance check page. Weird, eh?

However, I removed it from my list of participating retailers, because the QR code on the front of the gift card that tells you “where to use” points to a public webpage that had Menulog removed from the list, so it was removed from my list until it reappeared a bit over a week ago.

  • Do you know what 'excluding Variable cards (Ultimate Home, Teens & Kids)' means in the T&Cs? Does this mean the discount won't apply if I load a card with a value other than the usual $50 or $100 value?

    • +1

Does this mean the discount won't apply if load a card with a value other than the usual $50 or $100 value?

      Yes

Some Woolworths supermarkets stock variable load Ultimate gift cards, where you can choose any value between $20 (or $25) and $500 at the checkout.

I’ve actually only ever seen variable Ultimate Teens gift cards, so I’m surprised to see references to variable Ultimate Home or Ultimate Kids gift cards.

I cannot find the Ultimate Thanks, Beauty & Spa or Eats gift cards on the Officeworks website anymore. I wonder whether Officeworks has stopped stocking those gift cards…

  • I am so excited by both Woolworths and Coles 🤭🤭🤭

    • Who knew that grocery shopping could be exciting?!

  • I am looking to buy a washing machine from the good guys using a 1000+350 ultimate home [ excluding Variable cards (Ultimate Home, Teens & Kids)] gift card. What is the term variable means?

  • I am thinking to buy outdoor dinning set at Barbecue Galore for ~$2,000, is it possible to buy multiple Home or Him Cards and is it digital or actual cards and what nomination? After that, do you just use them to pay at BBQ Galore store? Not sure if worth it to buy the Mastercard from Coles offer to pay for this offer or would be too complicated! Many thanks
Edit: Do you also get Rewards points when buying these cards from Woollies!

    • I have nominated you for this month’s dinning award. Limit of 10 cards per transaction/day… 10 times $100 is halfway there

      • haha, I just bought Gas Pizza Oven from BBQ Galore using similar 10% cards deal couple of weeks ago. So Pizza night in the Alfresco area :)

    • +4

You can buy multiple Ultimate gift cards in one transaction (or multiple transactions) at Woolworths, as long as Woolworths staff will allow you to do this. You may find that some staff at your nearby stores are so strict with gift card purchases that you’ll need to purchase gift cards across multiple days… (Yes, gift card scams are still a major problem.)

The Ultimate gift cards in this deal are physical gift cards, but you can redeem them in-store or online Barbeques Galore, or exchange them for Barbeques Galore gift cards. Keep in mind the following though:

      • You will need to check with a Barbeques Galore store how many Visa cards they will accept in one transaction, as you may not be able to redeem ~20 Ultimate gift cards in one transaction in-store. You may also want to check with a Barbeques Galore store whether they accept multiple Barbeques Galore gift cards in one transaction in-store (just in case you need to go down that route instead).

      • You can only redeem 1x Ultimate gift card on the Barbeques Galore website, as Ultimate gift cards are Visa cards, so their details will be entered into the debit/credit card section of the website. I have yet to come across retailer participating in the Ultimate gift card scheme and allowing you to redeem multiple debit/credit cards in one online transaction… I think you can only redeem a maximum of five Barbeques Galore gift cards in one online transaction, but that is something you’ll need to investigate.

I would personally buy the Coles Mastercard Gift Cards in the Coles offer first, as Woolworths checkouts allow you to redeem multiple Coles Mastercard Gift Cards in one transaction when purchasing gift cards at Woolworths.

You will not earn any standard or bonus Everyday Rewards points through this deal.

      • Thanks for detailed reply, so seems can't add multiple cards to apple/google pay! will probably wait for another Giftz e-card deal.

        • You can add multiple Ultimate gift cards to Apple/Google/Samsung Pay, but there are limits.

          • The total number of cards you can have on an Apple Pay wallet on is 16 on iOS 15, and 12 on iOS 14 and earlier. However, you can only redeem one card at a time on Apple Pay. You can redeem Ultimate gift cards stored on Apple Pay one at a time in-store at a participating merchant, but that assumes the participating merchant will let you do that.

          • I’m not sure about Google or Samsung Pay, but I assume it is similar.

I agree that waiting for another Giftz deal is less hassle.

          • @WookieMonster: I bought 10x $100 home cards and could only add 4 to my iPhone and 5 to my watch.

Afterwards it says the card issuer doesn’t support Apple Pay. That’s not true as I could add the ones that my iPhone no longer accepts to the watch.

Is there a limit of cards you can add to Apple Pay per day?

            • +2

@zzzman: I don’t know if there is a per-day limit or a limit on the number of cards you can add to Apple Pay from a particular card issuer…

However, I know that you can only have a maximum of 12 cards in your Apple Pay wallet (for devices running iOS 14 or older) or 16 cards (for devices running iOS 15).

        Dear master.

Please enlighten me with your wisdom.

1)If i buy coles mastercard, can I use it to buy ultimate gift cards ar Woolworths?

        2) when do you think %15 discounted ultimate cards be on sale? About a year ago , i have bought them at %15 off sale and used my friend in the good guys to get staff price.
You also mentioned they have been on sale once at %20 . Please give us a prediction.

  • Makes me wonder if I could buy discounted prepaid master card from Coles then purchase the gift cards at Woolworths with it 🤔🤔🤔

    • +5

Makes me wonder if you can read

    • Yes indeed, can do so.

    • +1

There is a catch: it may take 4 hrs to activate a Coles PMC.

      • +1

You may be able to use the special theory of relativity to your advantage here — I’ve found that just 15 minutes waiting in a Woolies checkout queue feels like 4 hours

    • Can someone do the maths to show me how much a $250 ultimate gift card really cost in real $ assuming a combination of $250 Coles mastercard deal with the 10% Woolworths gift card one?
My brain is too old to do neutonium physics in 4D space right now. 😛

      • +1

Assuming that time is money, and that the moon is in the Seventh House, you’re looking at significant savings in the third dimension, but the fourth dimension is predicting that you should have slept in a little longer

      • +1

Well the Mastercard will still cost you the same price ($231.3). Buy the $250 Ultimate gift card for $225 and have $25 remaining on the Mastercard. So you're sort of saving $43.70 ($18.70 on the Mastercard + $25 on the Ultimate Gift Cards).

        • Thanks, my brain is working a bit better this morning so for me that means the cost of a $250 Ultimate gift card in my scenario is $206.30 (or 17.48% discount).

Awesome when you are planning on getting something like a new iPhone) or even an older one and combine that with a likely 10% discount for the older models).

          • @danielh: Yeah I would like to buy 5x of the Home gift card to use on a new phone from either Good Guys or JB Hifi. Just waiting on a good deal. I missed all the Click Frenzy deals 😬

            • @Mr Haj: It is a pity the highest fixed denomination one they have it $100. I just got 5 x $100 ones from Woolworths in preparation for this week.

  • Does officeworks sell ultimate home cards

    • No. I have never seen Ultimate Home gift cards stocked at Officeworks.

Officeworks previously sold Ultimate Eats, Ultimate Thanks and Ultimate Beauty & Spa gift cards, but their listings have disappeared from the website since I last checked (which was around Mother’s Day last month), which makes me wonder whether Officeworks has stopped selling Ultimate gift cards…

      • Have you ever seen ultimate home being %20 off. When do you think a better deal will come? Thanks

        • +6

Don’t worry, I saw your comment above and was writing a response to it! I guess I’ll write it here instead…

          1. You should be fine using Coles Mastercard Gift Cards as a payment method for any gift cards at Woolworths (or BIG W, for that matter). I tested this by swiping a Coles Mastercard Gift Card on the EFTPOS terminal at Woolworths last week when I was looking to buy a gift card, and the system asked for a PIN (or press Enter). If the system was going to block me, I would have received an error message on the EFTPOS terminal as soon as I swiped the card (e.g. Cancelled - Items Not Allowed). Woolworths (or BIG W) does not block Vanilla Visa gift cards or the older Coles Gift Mastercards from being used to purchase any gift cards in their stores.1

          2. Coles sold selected TCN gift cards at a 15% discount during Black Friday 2020 and 2021, so my prediction is that they will be 15% off again during Black Friday 2022.

Additionally, Coles sold Ultimate gift cards (including Ultimate Home) at a 15% discount in early Dec 2021, so my prediction is that it will be 15% off again in early Dec 2022.

My reference to “20% off” was only in relation to Ultimate Eats gift cards. I don’t really pay attention to how frequently those gift cards are 20% off, but it’s definitely not very regular.

  • Can you add these to Google pay? Last time I purchased some ultimate egift cards and was able to. Not sure if you can with these physical cards?

  • +1

    Seems you can

Add your Physical Card to your Mobile Wallet

    1. Go to the Wallet app on your mobile device
    2. Click on the plus icon
    3. Select Debit or Credit card on the next screen
    4. Enter your card details (For Physical Ultimate Cards please enter the expiry 12/2029 in the card details section. Please note the expiry you enter for online purchases and adding to wallet is different to your value expiry. You gift card will expire three (3) years from the date of issue).
    5. Your card has now been added to your mobile wallet
  • +1

Just to clarify: "excluding Variable cards (Ultimate Home, Teens & Kids)", does this mean all of these only three cards which cover JB HIFI and Good Guys are excluded from this 10% discount?

    • +2

This was already discussed earlier in this deal, but I’ll make it absolutely clear what this means.

There are two types of (physical) Ultimate gift cards sold at Woolworths:

      • Fixed-denomination Ultimate gift cards: these gift cards are sold in $30, $50 or $100 denominations (depending on the type of Ultimate gift card you are looking at).1 These gift cards are part of this deal.

      • Variable-denomination Ultimate gift cards: these gift cards allow you to choose to load any amount between $20 (or $25?) and $500 at the checkout. These gift cards are not part of this deal.

If you were wondering, Coles and BIG W currently only stock fixed-denomination Ultimate gift cards.

      1. Fixed-denomination Ultimate Teens and Ultimate Kids gift cards are available in $30 and $50 denominations. Fixed-denomination Ultimate Home gift cards are available in $50 and $100 denominations.

  • Thanks heaps! Didn't know these are actually two different type of cards!

    • My experience is that only some Woolworths supermarkets actually stock the variable-denomination Ultimate gift cards, so I would not be overly surprised if you’ve never seen one stocked at Woolworths before.

      • @WookieMonster Any idea when 15% off Jb hifi gift cards will come? I'd like to buy the new IPhone by Xmas.

        • +1

If you stack the current 10% off promo with the prepaid credit card promo at Coles, you will end up with even more than 15% off.

If you can get the $250 prepaid from Coles, and then buy these at 10% off, the total discount ends up being just over 16.7%.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/705416

        • Most likely Black Friday 2022 or early Dec 2022 (and it would be at Coles).

      • Sometimes I wonder if it is really worth to travel between these two supermarkets in order to get 15% off the good guys and jbhifi gift cards.

Because there’s a big chance of finding %15 to 20% off discounted gift card in Facebook marketplace and gumtree

        • For me, it would be worth it, because I have a Coles and Woolworths near me that are housed in the same building as each other and only about 150 footsteps apart. I’m not actually looking for any Ultimate gift cards at the moment, so I don’t have to worry about that.

I personally would never never ever go down the Facebook/Gumtree route for gift cards. Yes, there’s a good chance of getting a better discount, but there is a chance that the sale will go pear-shaped and will become the next hot forum post on OzBargain.

  • Is the home one can be exchanged to tgg gift card. I am planing to buy some stuff and got the quote online so don't know how to pay with several gift cards

    • +1

NOTE: the following comment only relates to TGG, not TGG Commercial.

Ultimate Home gift cards cannot be exchanged for TGG gift cards through the Ultimate gift card website, because TGG does not appear on the exchange portal. (Only some participating retailers actually participate in the exchange portal.)

Keep in mind that you can only redeem a maximum of two TGG gift cards (and one Ultimate gift card) in one online transaction on the TGG online store. To get around this, you’ll need to:

      • Go to a physical TGG store and complete the purchase there.

      • Go to a physical TGG store, ask to purchase a TGG gift card using multiple Ultimate gift cards (which TGG does not officially allow, but staff don’t seem to enforce this rule), then return home to complete the purchase at home using (at most) two TGG gift cards and one Ultimate gift card.

      • Call TGG’s sales line and ask them whether they can redeem multiple Visa cards and/or more than two TGG gift cards in one transaction over the phone or over email. I’ve heard this may be possible…

    • Yeah wish I saw this comment earlier…

  • Hi, my question is regarding the Home gift cards bought through Giftz a couple of days ago.
Is there a way to add those to Google Pay or Apple Pay?
I tried using the instruction on their website i.e. open the website on mobile, click add to wallet, install the myprepaid app, and then click add to wallet again. That didn't work and always resulted in an error. Tried it on both, Google Pay and Apple
