  • This seems to be as good a the dell s2721dgf

    • +7

the Dell is better, but obviously not 100$ better.

      • What is better about the dell?

        • USB Hub, etc.

          • +2

@ATangk: What's included in etc? Is it just usb hub or is there more differences that make the dell better?

            • +10

@Toffcuz: Dell one has DP 1.4 vs this one DP 1.2. So this one can't do DSC or HDCP like the Dell (though I don't think it matters a lot for gaming). Also DP 1.2 only able to do 10 bit color depth (in this case 8 bit + FRC) at 2K 144Hz, so you can only pushing to 165Hz with 8 bit color setting. While s2721dgf with DP 1.4 can do that easily as it supports up to 2K 240Hz.
There are also stuffs like Dell S2721DGF has better swivel/tilted angle or a security lock slot but tbh 99% won't care about them.
              https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/ca001d74… -> specifications side-by-side comparison

              • @Masticccc: Do you know the difference between S2721DGF and S2722DC?

        • Biggest difference is what you see immediately - the front bezel design is terrible on the samsung, I would not use it if I had a choice.

Maybe it doesn't bother you and you'd rather save $100 but the DGF looks far cleaner and less distracting. If it's something you're going to be seeing for years, spending a hundo more isn't a big deal.

          • +6

@FiveDarrah: The biggest difference is the painless 3yr premium warranty on the Dell vs terrible Samsung service.

Buying this is a gamble on dead pixels, bleed or other QC issues.

If you want to know what Samsung service is like then consider i've been asking for a return lable for two months and escalated 3 times. And still nothing has happened.

Where as Dell is super proactive. They deliver a replacement in a week and then collect the defect product at another time.

Same discounted price everywhere - $299

    Mwave - Free shipping
    PLE Computers - Free shipping
Scorptec - Free shipping to selected states (WA, SA and ACT excluded)
PC Case Gear - + Shipping

    • Update - Mwave is showing $399 now and sold out

    • In your opinion who's better to purchase from, PLE or Scorptec? I'd go PCC but not paying shipping if it's free elsewhere..

      • +1

I personally haven’t bought from either PLE or Scorptec but seeing how there’s a high number of upvotes on this deal from PLE, I would go with Scorptec

Sorry if I can’t give a definitive answer, hopefully someone else can :)

      • +1

I've bought from both and they're equally fantastic. Great customer service if you have any enquiries. The only differentiating factor could be where they're located. If you're in NSW - Scorptec have local branches whereas PLE don't, so you might get your delivery faster (or go to C&C).

      • Thanks guys. Clicked on scorptec in the last hour and price appeared as 799 thus placed order with ple

        • +1

Can vouch for PLE, been doing business with them for over a decade. They are my preferred physical store for pc.

At this price the monitor seems like a good value. Note that this is G-Sync "compatible". So it's a freesync monitor with Nvidia's G-Sync module.

    • +13

I was under the impression that "G-Sync compatible" means the monitor does NOT have a G-Sync module.

      • +1

Correct, otherwise it would simply be a gsync monitor.

      • What's the difference?

        • +10

Original G-Sync is a module installed in the monitor which communicates with the GPU for frame synchronisation. Freesync is an open standard which does basically the same thing without a special module in the monitor. Its part of the modern display port and HDMI standards, and monitor manufacturers are free to include it if they want (probably based on whether the rest of their monitor can handle high refresh rates). G-Sync compatible is just Nvidia saying they have tested a specific freesync monitor (using freesync I guess) and are happy with the results. There are also plenty of freesync monitors which can handle "G-Sync" even though they don't state it.

          • @Oyster59: True G-Sync monitors also have an ULMB option (ultra low motion blur), which I love as someone susceptible to motion sickness, but Freesync monitors now seem to have something equivalent, just with another name.

      • +1

That was a typo on my end, I meant to say this does NOT have a G-Sync module.

    • no module

  • It's not in stock until 20th.

    • +1

Really? I went all the way to before entering my payment details, and nothing says that it's out of stock. In fact, the site clearly says "in stock" for its various locations and warehouses.

      • +1
        • I guess I was on a cached page. Officially OzB'd

      • +1

I called them before 5 PM and was told that stock is expected to arrive on 20th. YMMV.

  • Anyone using this monitor can you please provide a quick review?

    • -7

you can do a quick google search

      • +34

Of course I can, but I trust the word of fellow ozbargainers more than that of some random people on the internet.

    • its good

      • +8

        quick

        They asked, they received.

  • +1

How is this compared to LG 27GL850-B?

I might be getting a one as the price is quite appealing, but should decide which one I should use as a main :p

  • Which one better ? This or the previous Acer monitor for the same price ?

    • This or Acer Nitro VG27 27inch 170Hz IPS ?? Which one better??

      • +4

        https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-vg271up-pb…

        https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g5-s2…

Acer - problems with backlight evenness/black uniformity, very little adjustment available, no height adjust. Low SDR peak brightness.

        TL;DR - Samsung better

        • -1

This is not the same Acer it was posted some time ago on Ozbargain. Isn't it ? That was 170hz…..

        • Also the Samsung that you posted it's not the same model of the bargain.

          • +2

@MARIOBROS87: In that case I cannot help.

Here's the acer model higher-end than the bargain posted https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-xv272u-kvb…

            • @OZKap: I have the VG272UV which was the one posted a couple of weeks ago from Centrecom and Scorptec. Its a great monitor and color production is top notch. The only downside is non adjustable stand as people say but if you VESA mount it will look really clean and slick compared to this. Bought from Scorptec as well. This model is also discounted from $500 to $399 including shipping from BPC tech. Would you get this one again if you already have one? I am tossing on this alone or should I just get this Samsung?

              • @eastonecho99: These 2 are so similar - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/acer-nitro-xv27… (closest versions of both monitors)

Extra $100 for maybe a slightly better screen, USB ports, extra HDMI and speakers but lower BQ? Not worth it IMHO.

                • @McFly: Yeah I was thinking so as well. For $260 it would be great but I missed out on that deal and I didnt get the Samsung because I suppose I just wanted matching Acers lol.

              • @eastonecho99: I was going to get the Acer for $260, paid and all but scorptec had an error where they had already sold out stock but still showed as available. No ETA on when they'd get stock. I ummed and ahed for a while, but reading about issues with backlight evenness (depends on QC on the individual unit) was the main thing that made me cancel that order and get this samsung. I've got an Acer laptop with pretty awful backlight evenness so I didn't want to mess around with possible RMAs for the monitor.

Got a VESA mount as well so the stand won't take up any room on my desk.

I do like the plain no-frills look of the acer too.

Edit: another downside is the samsung doesn't have inbuilt speakers, if that matters.

                • +1

@OZKap: Yes I heard that as well with back light evenness. I can tell you now I have been using mine since September 2021 and there has not been anything apparent as of yet. For $260 I would have jumped on it! Yeah the plain look does look cleaner especially if your using dual set up. Thats the only reason I didn't get the Samsung, I already have this monitor lol.

  • A dumb question: it says LED backlight and IPS screen. why the title is LCD monitor?

    • +1

IPS is a type of LCD technology like VA or TN which are all LCDs.

    • IPS or In-Plane Switching is a type of technology for LCD's.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPS_panel

      • thanks two gentlemen above. Like LCD more than LED. fewer eyes stress.

        • +1

I would have thought most LCDs are based on LED these days.

What you might like is OLED in a tv or monitor - because it has no backlight. But you should get a preview somewhere first, and it costs more.

          • +1

            @WhyAmICommenting: correct ….i
ips and tn doesn’t generate light , and so have led back light , oled generates light per pixel so no backlight needed …..

    • +2

Because it's an LCD with LED backlighting and you can get them with an IPS or VA panel

  • Need to downgrade from 4K for my son's Game pc ……… Too many monitors in the house now

    • same problem …even the raspberry pi is now on a 4k monitor ….

  • +2

What’s wrong with this monitor, why are a Samsung dumping these en mass.

Seems like a great mid range gaming monitor with nice refresh

    • I'm hoping they've just got some new hotness coming that would compete with this monitor.

    • qhd seems more a gaming resolution and hence the faster refresh ….. 4k is nice if using office apps, my laptop screen is even now 4k ..might be the work from home and demand shift in monitor types ….wish work moved off 1080p and onto 4k.

      • use 2x 24" monitors for work , still going strong ……., the pc has been changed 3 x times now

    • Theres a brand new model out, its marginally different to be honest, its gone back to the curve and has DP1.4, heres the HK Samsung page for 2022 27” Odyssey G5, HKD$3280 = AUD$606.14

      • Also gone "BTTF" with VA, 'simple stand', and 'HDR10' - and for up to double the price. I'll pass.

PS. Why do they keep flip-flopping curved VA/flat IPS on the same 'model'?

        • Its pure madness, I honestly couldnt be bothered reading the whole spec sheet, samsungs numbering system is bananas, the curved g5 and flat g5 should be two different models, instead theyre getting refreshed bianually and on the odd year the other is refreshed but all under the same model, its moronic.

  • How are these qhd monitors getting so cheap… regretting my purchase last year

    • -5

korean ips 144hz qhd monitors were this cheap like 5+ years ago this is dinosaur tech, samsung still tries to sell for $700 anyway lmao

  • seems like pccasegear amd Mwave all have it for 299
the exact model code for this one is "Odyssey G52A " short code : "S27AG52"

    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g5-s2…

review for S27AG50 which isnt HDR400 certified, but should be very close monitors regardless.

  • Misread

  • Great deal just got it from mwave thru cash rewards

  • +1

Can someone who has one of these please tell me what it's like to switch between inputs? I have a Samsung CRG50 (smaller 1080p gaming monitor) and every time I need to switch between my wife's surface dock and my PC it takes a little piece of my soul away.

  • -4

Garbage for ps5/xboxsx no hdmi 2.1 input

    • +2

      1440p 144hz on HDMI 2.0

I doubt consoles can play output that anyway

    • +1

You wouldn't get any QHD screen for a PS5 anyway. For XBox this is more than fine for the price.
No such thing as HDMI 2.0 any more anyway…

    • +1

Well people won't get this monitor for PS5 anyways….

  • +1

Why do Samsung design these to make them look like they've got speakers on the bottom? Is that meant to be "gaming flair"?

  • Is this an overkill as a office (non gaming)
    monitor?

    • Maybe a bit, but if you want 27" QHD this is a great deal. An FHD 75Hz screen is about $100 less.

      • I really enjoy the QHD on my 32". Not sure if it is a "requirement" on 27". Do you reckon QHD is significantly noticeable on a 27"?

        • +1

Yes. 27" at FHD is noticeably pixelated.

QHD is the minimum resolution for a 27" IMO.

          • +3

            @klaw81: I concur… 24" FHD, 27" QHD, 32" UHD as minimums.

    • If you are good with a 60Hz office monitor at this price, probably go for Dell S2721DS or S2722DC

      • They both seem quite pricy compared to the one on this deal. Maybe because there isn't any sale for those 2 monitors.
Looking at ozb history, it looks like they went sub-$300 before many times but last deal was in 2021 Dec.

        • Yeah the S2721DS is an old model so I don't think they discount it anymore, was as low as 250$. S2722DC was on sale like 1-2 months ago, 319$. Because you can afford to buy this one so I assume 20$ more won't be a problem.
Also depends what's your "office task" too. If it's something that need accurate color calibrate and extra stuff then you'll need more. If you just look at document/coding then I guess a sub 200$ monitor is enough.

        • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/706573 but yeah, you'd only get this if you wanted the USB-C functionality.

      • They are 75Hz.

  • -1

Thanks. Great price and EOFY timing - perfect to claim the full immediate deduction on tax.

    https://www.ato.gov.au/general/covid-19/support-for-individu…

    • +2

I'd caution that—ATO may consider the monitor to be part of a the entire system, which then takes the value over $300, and will have to be depreciated instead. But hey, I'm no tax expert.

      • +1

Good point @freekay. This was assuming you're WFH and work supplies your computer, but you get the monitor out of your own pocket.

  • +1

Bought one to replace my FHD 27" :)

  • Can a 1660ti run this?

    • what games because 1660ti is not a good 1440p card to get 100+ fps

      • Things like Tomb Raider, Horizon Zero Dawn, Assassins Creed

Might have to stick with the 1080p monitor then.

        • yeah that would be better unless you want to tone down settings alot and get this and wait until you can upgrade your gpu

  • -3

    Is this still available?

  • just a heads up, jb price matched this to 299 for me over the phone if you don't want to wait for shipping. ended up mentioning pccasegear over the phone.

    • Jb Chadstone told me that they can't price match as the price difference is too high.

      • mine didn't even hesitate one bit. did you call the store directly? it's better to call the "ask for a jb deal" line. try again via 13 52 44 and I reckon you'll get it matched. these are the links I used.

        pccg link
        jb link

        • Hello! Yes, I did. Called up again hoping to be reconnected to a different person they said the same thing to me.

          • @dishkiaon: either way its sold out everywhere now, you snooze you lose ; ) and I guess I got lucky with my jb call but worst case I had an order placed for 299 with mwave anyway which I cancelled this afternoon.

            edit: ple still has it

    • Do you have a link? can only see the G50 on their site.

      • +1

hi! I just replied to the person above with the links I referred to when I called them. just told the rep pccg has it for 299, he checked the sku and said yep no worries. picked it up via C&C just now.
