They have a 10 year expiry from manufacture date I think. And normal smoke detectors aren't replaced yearly…

        • yeah mistake on the yearly part
but I do notice they need replacing every few years..

so how are these able to be used for 10 years?
though the detected would be quite old by then,

  • Do you need an electrician to install the wired Nest models or can you do it yourself?

    • Legally, electrician, they are bare wires, not a plug.

  • Does it work with G-Suite account?

    • No, you need a regular Gmail account.

C&C so they can scan my face? NTY

    • As opposed to scanning your face at AU post pick up centre?

    • -1

Just wear a mask, a beanie and sunnies.

  • I assume this is the gen-2 version.
Does anyone know if/when the gen-3 comes out? There have been rumours for a while now.

Thanks OP bought 2 @ $114.30 from Bunnings price beat officeworks $127

  • the best thing with the wired system is it can be nice nightlight that is constantly litted when it's dark

  • +3

I bought 2 of these by price matching at Officeworks for $101.65

David Jones doesn't sell this unit anymore, but their website is still live with their pricing. Just make sure the Officeworks staff type into Google search "Google Nest Protect David Jones"

    https://www.davidjones.com/product/nest-nest-protect-smoke-d…

    • +2

As a side note, if you want the wired version, they are $97 at DJ, so price-match that one :)

        Thanks!!

I managed to get price match at office work with the DJ $97 (wired model)

        bought 3 @ $92.15 each.

    • did you price beat by calling? they're claiming that david jones website only has style number and not part number so they can't do it

      • +4

I went in store and got them into searching on Google for it and distracted them with general chit chat.

        • +1

Could you please share the store name as my locals are a bunch of maniacs even though they wear their price beat jumpers very proudly?

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: This was Officeworks Maribyrnong, was late last year though.

        • can confirm that this works, bought the wired one for $92.15 and they only asked to see price on my phone

    • They wouldn't do it for me last time.

    • Just got rejected at 2 Officeworks stores as they couldn't add the item to the cart from the David Jones page

      • I just returned from Officeworks in Maribyrnong where they price beat David Jones

        • I'll go back tonight when a different shift is on and try again :)

  • Thank op,picked up for 119 from jb with the $10 voucher for JB perks

  • Very happy with ours. Bought the wired version. They give enough warning so you can silence them with the phone app if the alarm is triggered and the night light is a nice touch.

  • Thanks Op, got one.

  • Those who bought from OW, HN, JB, Bunnings, etc, would you mind share the manufacture date? It is good to know which retailer has newer stock. Thanks

    • bunnings. nov 21

      • Thanks

      • bunnings pymble, also nov 21.

    • Anyone from OW, please? About to place an order soon.

Definitely staying far away from TGG with their old stock.

Bought 1 @ Bunnings for $87.30, price beat David Jones ($97). Took them about 12 mins to decide if to price beat due to no product number on the DJ web page, but they came through in the end. Mine is dated March 2022. No indication of date on the outside of the box, it is only printed on the device. This is my second one, the first came from TGG in Jan 2022 and was dated Nov 2021. So overall happy with the age of the units. Not sure where other people are seeing he manufacture date on the box.

    • Bought 1 @ Bunnings for $87.30, price beat David Jones ($97).

Nice!!! Extra 10% off rather than 5% from O/W.

Can this be done over the phone or were you at a store near Geelong?

      • In store, North Geelong, the only Bunnings in the Geelong area with stock. Still had at least one of the Mains and Battery model left.

        • Bought the the last three units there

    • Manufacture date is part of the serial in wwyy format - which should be on the box.

      • +1

My Serial looks more like a MAC address. It does have 1122 in it. Based on your coding this would be 11th week 2022, which equates to Mar 2022 which mine is. Thanks for that.

        • +3

Checked the serial on my first detector and it works out as week 48 2021 which is matches the date stamp on the unit of Nov 2021.
For those who need to work this out when checking stock before purchase, the position in the serial is xxxxxxxxwwyyxxxx

  • +1

Bunnings updated site to match the 127 amount.

    • Yeah, noticed that half way through today. Bunnings has a lot of orange tags on their iOT gear at the moment, probably due to EOFY.

    • officeworks too!

  • Bought 1 from office works, 2 from bunnings and 8 from goodguys. Seem good so for, all manufactured mid 21 to 22

    • +1

      Ya’ll live in a castle?

      • We have a lot of rooms which are closed off and two hallways.

  • +1

you guys should all try to do the DJ price match!

I did and managed to get a price match at office work with the DJ $97 (wired model)

    bought 3 @ $92.15 each.

    • How do they price match if DJ has no stock?

      • The guy at OW checked the DJ website once they convinced themselves it was the same product they priced matched it even though there wasn't a product ID on the DJ website. They never checked the stock, I didn't even realise it wasn't in stock in DJ given the ad is still up in DJ.

  • Unfortunately Bunnings in Melbourne western suburbs have no stock left, I just got Officeworks to price beat David Jones. Unfortunately I could buy only one unit as it was the last one at OW Maribyrnong

    • In store or over the phone?

      • In store

        • Bunnings, I did it on email and even though it shows no stock online I was able to pick it up from the nearest store, in WA though!

  • Just don't go into their store as they scan your face and keep a record of you

  • Why is the one on the shelf with a green led vs a blue led ? Is that a different version?

    • +1

Same, it’s the light that changes colour depending on its status

  • +1

Now paid below $100 at Bunnings nice!

  • +1

    Thanks op!

Managed to get 3 for $97 each at JB, price matched to DJs. Date codes were Oct, Nov and Dec 2021. Not going to complain!

  • Was going to grab the last two at my Bunnings (Kirrawee) but the date on the box was 2018!?

    • +1

      Nah skip them..

  • Does the night smart light only work with wired?

  • I've just received from TheGoodGuys… manufactured date is Jan 2018 :( need to be replaced by Jan 2028.

Does anyone else get any later dates ?

    • Ouch. Good guys are notorious for selling old stock.
I would suggest you return for a refund

      • I'm refunding to them.

    • Just got mine from TGG delivered, Week 50 2020

    • I got December 2017 and requesting a replacement

  • How do you check the manufacture date before opening it?

  • Just read this review on the Bunnings product page - https://www.bunnings.com.au/google-nest-protect-wired-smoke-…

"Google Nest W Smoke Alarm issue
This is not easy to install, as it has no integral base plate, and to be legal, requires a junction box over the install point in the ceiling. This is an expensive complication where this GNWSA replaces an existing item. It was probably designed for the US market."

Anyone come across this requirement when getting theirs installed?

  • The one I Received is 4+ years old. :(

Deals - win some loose some

    • I returned Good guys and bought from Office Works. all good with end 2021.

      • Nice. Ill try doing that this weekend.

  • Just received two from TGG, checked the serial number and both are Week 48 2021 which is lucky.

  • Received mine from the TGG. Wired November 2020 and battery August 2021. I got them when there was 15% cashback so not sure whether to try returning them to get newer ones but might end up forfeiting the cashback.

    • Have you tried going into store for swap over?

      • My local store got some stock in but they were from 2019-2020.

        • 2020 and 2021 aren't that old i guess to risk the 15%

          • @Kewlj: Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well. May not be worth the hassle travelling around to different stores to check

  • Just price matched with JB on the phone vs David Jones. Would only do $107 due to can't validate the DJ stock. Good enough for me.

  • I just got two delivered from the Good Guys (via ebay store), both are week 30 2019 and had anti tamper seals cut.

Can anyone comment on the quickest return process - I presume I can return to my local store, but I'm not sure what evidence they'll want from the Ebay purchase.

    • +1

can return either way. no problem. they just need evidence / invoice from your purchase

    • had anti tamper seals cut.

Sounds like someone already returned those units before you, and TGG just re-stocked them as new.

  • I got 3 alarms, 1 from JB hifi (year 2021), 2 from good guys ( 1 with year 2021, 1 with year 2019), the boxes looks different, i could tell the 2019 was a really old stock, returned it. Now trying to buy another one but the sale from all stores seems over :(
