Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 $211.16 Shipped ($205.88 with eBay Plus) @ The Gamesmen via eBay

540
PLUSFY22SAFY20

Been on a Xbox buying spree since using that AMEX deal to get the Series X, then the Gamepass deal, then the Storage deal (ebay plus as well).
Decided, oh, the elite controller to complete the package and sure enough. The Gamesmen has it in stock.

Did a quick search on OZB and couldn't find it cheaper than $205 (ebay plus).

Don't bother with the MightyApe on Ebay they have it for $249 and you can apply the same voucher, but because it's coming from NZ, GST applies, so comes to $205 as well and you're waiting longer.

EDIT - I stand corrected, did a better search and it was $199 back in 2019. So second cheapest it's been

I bought one about a month ago, and had to return it two days later because the A/Y buttons didn't work all the time.

After returning it, I found out online that that was quite a common issue.

Apart from that, it was a very comfortable controller with a fair bit of heft to it. The backpaddles and changeable thumbsticks were nice too. Probably won't bother to get another one though.

$200 controllers new top scam innovations

      • +4

Disagree. I've been using an Elite controller since they released and I won't go back to a standard controller now. Microsoft are usually pretty good about replacing faulty units as well, my most recent one was replaced out of warranty.

        • +1

They are still covered under ACL, hence the extended coverage

        • +1

they're obviously good but $200? lol

        • +1

+1 I have the original Elite Controller and its still going strong. The best controller I've ever owned. Worth every dollar.

      • +1

I think this is crazy price too…but then again not many baulk at $200 keyboards and $200 gaming mice…

        • +1

I guess that makes them the old top scam innovations

      • Hardly. I've been using mine for nearly daily for nearly 7 years. I had to get replacement analog sticks last year (which is an easy fix given they're magnetically swappable). I've never had a controller last this long. Bought for $140 and would happily pay $200 today if it died.

    • +2

With a product that has a high price tag, you'll more likely find negative reviews due to the higher expectations it has (this is not discounting the review here, just an observation elsewhere).

      • +3

I don't know why you're getting negged because that's absolutely true.
I have one and I like it, no issues but this is the first time I've talked about it online.

    • Had the same issue with my A button, just got a replacement, fingers crossed not same issue.

  • +4

Seems to be a bit hit and miss with these.

Seen reports online with them being faulty/breaking.

However, i've had mine for a year and I love it, struggle to use a normal controller for FPS games now!

    • My first one had the sticks going hay wires after a couple months, but my second one is about 18 months now and doing perfectly. Definitely seems hit and miss

  • Why is this 200. What does it honestly do better than the already overpriced 80 dollar one

    • +6

Can't speak for this one, but I have the Elite v1 (which I paid $140), and aside from the paddles, for me it's just the premium feel of it. It makes regular controllers feel like a toy.

Easily my favourite controller to use. Does it make me a better player? No. Does it feel much nicer to use? Absolutely.

(Whether that is "worth" it to you is up to you. But I have no regrets!)

    • +6

Can't talk for Elite 2 cos i'm still using Elite 1 that i've had for years and years but i can answer on that basis.

So as a courtroom typist i got terrible RSI in one arm to the point i could barely move it at times, which obviously meant no playing of games.. UNTIL i bought the elite controller, then i was able to map buttons to the paddles on my good hand and basically shift everything onto that side which meant i was able to still play many games. So i'll always be thankful for these for that reason, was a total game-changer for me that allowed me to game when it seemed i'd have to give it up altogether.

    • +8

if you bother to read the product description it has:

      • adjustable tension on both sticks
      • customisable response curves
      • up to 3 controller 'profiles'
      • programmable buttons on the rear (4)
      • internal lithium battery (that lasts foooooorever)
      • alternative thumb sticks and D pad accessories

its actually really good. I use the rear paddles as shift up/down in racing games and jump/melee in FPS games.

      • I'd buy it for the rear flappy paddles alone. I map a pair to L3/R3 because it gets really old needing that much force to press those joysticks in.

    • I don't think the standard $80 controllers are overpriced, what makes you think that?

      • Got mine for 60 before the world went to sh1t

        • I see, that appears to be the unfortunate shit we all face thanks to base materials and computer chips costing more. I doubt things will go back to the way they were, I just wish I bought more before the price hikes.

          • +1

@FabMan: Yeah I mean I'll still pay 80 when my current one sh1ts the bed. Can't use any other PC controller

  • +1

Need a pro controller for DS5….. the current one is pathetic…..

    • +1

Apparently something is on the way

      • thanks for the update.. another reason to hold my PS5 a bit longer before moving to XBOX….

  • Have the original, some games you just can't be competitive if you don't have one. Still going strong albeit a few loose triggers and worn rubber thumbsticks

  • +1

I always said I'd get one of these when they go on sale… but I've heard they are about as unreliable as the originals which I have a black and a white one of already and had to replace my black one twice and now its well out of warranty the rubber grips are coming off it… white one hasn't seem as much use but had to replaced originally due to a dodgy bumper and then developed a squeaky trigger which i fixed myself… maybe i'll wait for a series 3, lol

  • +3

Strange that a premium pro controller that can cost almost 3 times as much as the standard controller seems to be so unreliable in terms of quality.

  • +3

My V1 still going strong after 6 years. And it's worth the price from my experience.
The review and quality was very good back in 2015/2016.
Quality looks like worst for V2.

  • absolutely hated mine, such a waste of money. the rubber starts to fall off after 6 months, you get a replacement and its basically just as bad. an endless painful loop that is not worth it.

Still sad that Microsoft has never opted to include a gyroscope in any of their controllers. If they did, there'd be gyro parity across the Switch, PS4/5 and the Xbox and more devs might support gyro in their games

    • +1

Aiming in Horizon: Forbidden West with the Gyro is a game changer (pun intended)

      • Yeah, now that I've played a number of games with gyro on consoles/PC (e.g. Breath of the Wild), I just don't get why Microsoft didn't include it in the current generation. Playing shooters on a controller without gyro feels like using a mouse and keyboard while wearing oven mitts covered in butter. Loosey Goosey

    • +1
      • Oh wow! I'd never heard of that controller before. Very cool!

  • +1

Elite controller is the minimum you can use if you want to be competitive in Multiplayer FPS like COD, where most people these days are using mouse and keyboard. Gives you so much more of an advantage over the regular controller.

Everything about the look and feel of the controller is super premium.
I was wary of the quality issues though and JB extended care when I bought mine. But so far, so good after almost a year.

    • +1

I don't see why you got negged so I gave you a +.
I agree with your points coming from a pc gamer with an Elite serie1 controller.
The stock Xbox controller is inferior in every single way.

  • My Series 1 Elite the grips fell off. My sons Series 2 just came back after a warranty claim. It wouldn’t charge or work via cable, was completely dead. My Halo elite controller is still going strong, will be devastated if it fails.

    • Yeah common problem. I just glued them back on with some liquid nails.

  • if i ever get my telstra points hope to get one for like $15

    • If you have lots of points, better off getting the storage expansion

      • why? i have fast internet i can just redownload stuff

        • Fair enough, NBN 50 is the fastest i can get.

  • -1

Is this how much next gen controllers cost now??

    • and also in the past

    • +1

Well the Elite Controller has been out since late 2015, so if you've been living under a rock…..

Also, this isn't Next Gen. It's just compatible with it.

      • Sorry, not much of a gamer these days. Didn't realise this wasn't just a standard controller!

        • +1

The Elite didn't give it away? :)

I had 2 of the original models, now 2 of the series 2 variants…. there is no nicer controller ever made. Not saying it's worth $250rrp but it's incredibly nice.

I did return one of them with a faulty button though.

  • Premium feeling or not, I just don't understand why anyone would want a heavier controller. Here Iam trying to lessen the weight of the normal one by using AAA batteries with converter.

    • +2

Because it doesn't feel plastic and cheap.

    • +6

Because not everyone is a weakling

      • -7

Yep cause your so strong using a heavier controller lol

        • +4

Then why complain? Do you also cry when your mouse is 5g too heavy?

  • -1

I hate how loose the thumbsticks on the normal Xbox controllers are compared to PS. Are these any better? Don’t care about the other features like paddles

    • Yes, the thumbsticks are better than the standard controllers

  • +1

Cheaper at Might Ape eBay by 18 cents lol. $199.79 + $5.91 delivery

Comes from NZ so may take a bit longer to arrive. NZ gets the same stock as AU

    • +1

OP Link was OOS, yours is still good. Thanks matey!

  • -1

The bumpers are still pretty poor. Sent 2 of them back under warranty and was hassle free though. Good thing they come with a longer than usual warranty.

  • -1

People are willing to pay over $200 for a controller!? Don't the thumbsticks get loose / out of sync after a while of regular hardcore use ( 1 year + )

  • -1

$200? Damn. What a rip. Got a steam controller 5 years ago for $50 - now that controller is truly elite.

  • I went through 7 replacements before I just gave up. Every one had a major issue either out of the box or within a short amount of time. The longest latest 6 months before R2 failed.

A lot of my gaming peers have these and all of them have had issues.

At the end of the day I don’t miss it even a little bit. There are some decent alternatives now and the new 8bitdo wired entry looks excellent for a fraction of the cost.

  • Yep. I had mine replaced 5 times. Now just waiting for the refund from MS (been 60 days).

Waiting for the Telstra Plus thing to sort itself out so I can redeem the points for another one.

  • I have the elite 1 and they are plagued by phantom input issues that they haven't fixed in the elite 2. Basically right outside of warranty, my stick began to drift in one direction by itself. It's a hardware issue and I had to solder a new gimbal to fix it. Just keep in mind in case you are expecting a lasting product, it's extremely common apparently.

    Google: phantom input elite

  • +1

Unless you have a good strategy to have this replaced every couple of years just don't do it. I've been so close to pulling the trigger but the quality control and problems that can occur straight out of the box are still ridiculous regardless of what people say look it up for yourself

  • +1

just had a look and it looks like they have more controllers in stock !

  • Don't bother. The quality and build control is questionable.. the right bumber on mine doesn't work properly.

    Get the OG version..

  • I would like to know if it has been covered by ACL for two year’s warranty

  • Took me 4x returns to get one that had reliably functional buttons. Unit 5 has been fine so far (had it 6 months now). By comparison, my Elite v1 controller was perfect from day 1 and is still going strong.

It was mostly the A button that was problematic with the Elite v2 (failed to register quite often). One had a right bumper that stopped working after a few weeks.
