  • This crew are usually known for their powerbank jump starters - not sure what their OB2 device is like

    • +2

Surely it's like any other OBD2 reader/scan tool. I don't think it's anything fancy but get's the job done in case you want to see what the CEL means on your car.

  • +1

is it any different than ELM327 + torque/android?

      • How does that answer the question?

      • +1

let me put it this way - what can this gooloo thing do and elm327 cannot? for example for vw golf 2015

        • +6

ObdEleven is the best for vw Golf.
got theirs for mine and I can code different new functions to the car that other devices can't really do.

For example. I permanently disabled the start stop system in traffic and its worked like a dream. And I coded functions like auto closing windows in rain when the car is locked

          • @jayboi: Thanks for that. I've just bought a 4-year-old Audi and the start/stop annoys the hell out of me. The engine cuts out while the car is still moving

            • @bigAlOz: Yeah, definitely recommend for your use case. you can also play around with the other features you can add to your car

              • @jayboi: So OBDII and OBDEleven are the same, just checking.

                • +2

@thehulk1969: OBDII is just OBD 2 and Obdeleven is just a brand name which just makes it sound more futuristic I guess 🤷‍♂️

            • +1

@bigAlOz: That's going to be the least of your issues 🙂

          • @jayboi: This sounds like a dream for me. Do you have a link please? I have a 2015 Golf too!

            • +5

              @lordra: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002732743416.html
this is the one that I got. Oh and I forgot to say, I installed LED license plate lights on my 2015 Golf (originally had halogen) and an error light came out on the dash and the OBD eleven device was able to tell the car that id installed LED license plate lamps so the error went away.
EDIT: make sure to select the $2.93 store coupon to get extra discount

              • @jayboi: did you need odbeleven subscription to do all of this?

                • +1

@aik: no, just the credits which can be given for free if you watch the ads

        • Unless it's bidirectional where you can send vehicle-specific test commands to different systems/control modules, I don't think it is any different to the cheapy bluetooth ones. One thing that can be thought of as a plus is that it is harder to forget removing this one from the OBDII port, whereas it is easy to forget the little ones considering their size and the location of OBDII ports in most cars.

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Finally got one.

  • +9

Man I love & hate (not really) OzBargain. I've gone years without needing car tools and in the past few weeks I've found myself buying Gooloo battery jumpers, CTEK battery chargers, wiper blades, shampoo, and now this OBD2 reader.

    • +2

Better than a stealership charging $250 for an oil change.

      • +1

You meant $250 parking fee and stamping your logbooks? Most dealer service centres don’t even change the oil and happily tick off the logbook service list.

        • +1

Ok. Nah they're a total rip but not changing the oil would be a bit obvious to everyone.
Unless you are joking in some way I am missing?

          • +3

@King Tightarse: Not that obvious for those drivers who have never opened their car bonnets in their entire lives. My cousin for example, insisted having her car serviced by a dealership service centre until one day her car broke down and her uncle who is also a mechanic, took a look and asked her why had she never changed the engine oil. LOL I was there and the engine oil came out of her car engine looked like black grease.

            • +1

@wtfnodeal: Wow, that's a lawsuit. Sounds like her engine was completely sludged.
What happened? How was is resolved?

              • @King Tightarse: I didn’t ask. I doubt there was any recourse unless it was caught and filmed at the time she picked up her car after the ‘service’.

                • +3

@wtfnodeal: I sludged motor is almost certain to sustain real damage. I would have cracked the shits and gone straight down there.
The only mechanics I (maybe) trust would be someone over 40 with a solid local reputation worth keeping. It is a sea of crooks, bulldust artists and con men.
I service my own car and have since the first complimentary one when it was new. Maybe I have trust issues, but I see such shitty work on other people's cars. I just dont trust 'em at all.

        • That's exactly why I service my car myself now! Speaking from experience as well.

Congratulations @tempestswitch, after all these years you are now finally qualified as an official OzBargainer.

      Welcome to the OzBargain family.

    • +1

Thanks OP, like @tempestswitch car has recently given dramas so here I am adding to the list of purchases to fix them…it never ends

    • +2

glad you stopped at car tools, I used to be happy with just two watches (an auto and a quartz), now I have 9

      • lolololol…….rofl

  • +1

Just because I can. Thanks OP 😉

  • I have one of those cheapies from eBay for $5 which does the same thing this would i.e. give you fault code information and ability to clear. Don't think this does anymore. If it was like OBDeleven, it would be a bargain

  • Is this one can clear error sign like engine checks etc on Holden anyone thanks

    • Which Holden model?

      • +4

        HQ

      • D. All of the above.

  • What does this offer over the free one that has been on here a few times? Apart from not taking so many months to arrive that is

    • Nothing

      • Are you sure?

I have the free Nonda scanner Phanom is referring to. Doesn't work with many manufacturers and is extremely limited in what it can do not to mention it's bug ridden.
It reads some codes but is unable to clear them.

You should be certain before assuming it's the same just because you own a basic version you're happy with just to justify your purchase.

        • Buy a $5/$10 one from fleabay and check your model number. It's usually all vehicles that use the OBD2 standard.

  • 【One-Click Smog Check】Only one click of the I/M Readiness key on this car computer code reader can help you to check the status of emission-related misfire system and fuel system, so you will know if the car is ready to pass the annual smog check in advance. You don't need to read the manual to know what to do, even for a beginner.

When did this bocme a requirment in Australia?

  • +2
    1. do not need
    2. bought anyway
    • Can relate

  • Which is the best one for BMW?

    • +2

Nothing beats a mechanic in the backseat of a BMW

      • Not much he can do from the backseat though

        • +1

          Provide sympathy at the least

          • +1

@Muzeeb: Yeah that’s what Beemer drivers need, more focus on themselves and a greater sense of entitlement

  • +1

    oos 😥

  • Done dusted

  • Looks good

  • +3

Buyer Beware - bought one of these a while back and fried my ECU. Ended up costing me $1k plus more to replace the ECU and electrics in my car. Do it properly and invest in a proper Scan tool.

    • +1

When you buy junk unfortunately this happens. You get real ones like Autel, Launch, iCarsoft etc

    • +1

      How?

Clearing codes or trying to reprogram something new?

      • +2

Just plugged it in and then within a few moments everything went out. I think it shorted out as there was a burning smell 5 mins later

        • +1

          Ouch!

    • +2

Was it this GOOLOO one or another cheap OBD reader?

  • -1

Cancelled my order, too many forums coming up with ECU issues when using these devices. I'm no mechanic so not taking the risk.

  • since this is out of stock, does anyone has any recommendation for OBDII 4G GPS unit? thanks! :)

  • +1

Got the product. Works like a treat.
