  • No good for existing customers so did the best option which was to port out to Amaysim. That process had its issues as the verification process took ages and many attempts plus some phone calls, eventually on the Amaysim network. Went into JB and was greeted with a very helpful staff member, 2 hours later we were still waiting for Amaysim to release the hold and let Telstra activate the number. I went home empty handed and nearly 12 hours after the process started the Telstra plan was activated. Can't blame anyone as it says in the T&C's that it could take up to 48 hrs. Now I can go back in tomorrow and buy the phone, yea. Also have used the online chat with Telstra and explained what happened and was transferred to another team member before they approved the $20 port-in credit. Even better deal.

Considering this deal for $300 over 12 months and great past experience with Circles.Life with all that it offers me, the Google Pixel 6 Pro is not worth $927 and all the hassle of JB HiFi / Telstra as well. 5G is over rated and at times my 5G mobiles on Telstra network need to be dialed back to connect 4G or lower in mobile network settings to even work acceptably.

Only IF I can get a guaranteed $20 port-in credit per month, would it become good enough value for me to get; $10 per month won't cut it pricing the Pixel at an effective $807 …. for me.

I managed to eventually get the $20 port-in credit approved before I went in to JB to port the number!

They kept saying it couldn't be done, then only $10, but I insisted it can be done and has been done for others; they tried to tell me it was just customers whom re-contracted with JB. Kept saying, escalate please until the break through.

  • I've tried 3 chat agents so far and all refused any port-in credit šŸ˜”

    • Don't give up. I got lucky on 2nd time for $20 credit. Even then, they only wanted give me $10 or ask me go back to jb store to ask them to do it.

managed to get $20 with 2nd agent first one was really rude and said they do not allow port in credit on JB hi Fi plans

For those currently on a Telstra / Belong / Boost plan asking about accessing this offer, this was my experience as an existing Belong customer. Probably too late for this deal but may help in the future:

    1. Went to JB HiFi and got a new contract with a new number
    2. Went to the Telstra store, and ported the number I wanted to keep from Belong to a new Telstra prepaid $10 sim (took about 4 hours so I had to return the next day)
    3. The Telstra rep was then able to cancel my pre-paid service and apply the number onto the post-paid contract - this part took about 5 minutes.

I was told before doing this that there is a risk of losing your original number. JB HiFi and Telstra use different systems for registering them so if the migration fails, you could lose it. There is also a chance that someone could be issued with your old number in the 5 minute transition period.

Apart from that, it went smoothly, the Telstra rep did complain and say it was unethical to make the change since it went against the T&Cs of the JB HiFi contract, but did it anyway.

wow, the hypocrisy, a Telstra rep even using the word unethical!

  • anyone have any case recommendations ?
    This looks satisfactory: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B096ZNFJBT/ref=ox_sc_acā€¦

I noticed that some screen protectors list that they are fingerprint compatible, seems not all of them are.

    • out of stock right now, but don't muck around and risk your phone on that cheapie, instead:

    • so many uggggly cases. The phone is ugly enough as it is. The only one I like is the official one from google, but it's $50 in JB-HIFI soooo expensive!

      • The official one from google were 20% off in-store when we signed up for the phone and plan!

        • oh really, i should go back and check because that is the only one that looks decent. thanks.

  • Got the phone, thanks OP!

i heard that this deal is extended till 30/June. can someoneplease confirm?

    • +2

maybe, just jump into your jb-hi store and ask them.

      • I went into a local store and this was not still availible, so assuming a no!

  • Just try your luck guys, managed to get $20/month credit for 12m on my 1st attempt.

    • where is the online chat?

      • +1

use My Telstra app on your phone or tablet.
AFAIK you can not use online chat from computer browsers.

        • found it, but it's showing error code 1007, so can't sign in hmmm

          • @9hundred: since I cannot log into my account and they told me they don't have my details, I guess that instead of paying $69/month, or the reduced $49/month, i will instead pay $0/month hahahaha! Awesome!

            • @9hundred: Did you get a working SIM card? They didn't have one of my accounts set up for 1.5 weeks too but it eventually showed up.

              • +1

@ballistykx: I got a working sim and I just got a bill emailed, but no way to pay it because mytelstra app is error code 1007.

  • does it come with unlimited google photo uploads?

Just to recap my end result.

Got the full $20 port-in credit for 12 months pre-approved and created a screenshot of it BEFORE buying and porting.
Bought the 256GB version with the plan ($650 GC voucher towards $1,199 price that was already discounted by $250)
Port in credit applied as per pre-approval with reference to the screenshot

    Total cost to me: $1,137
    (12x $49 + $549)

Today cost to buy the 256GB version from JB is $1,199 ($62 more than I'll be paying overall). And, of course I'll have 12 months of 100GB data with unlimited calls and SMS.

I think that the current Pixel 6/6 Pro discount of $250 may be longer term as the Pixel 7 range is not that far away, and whilst the extra $650 benefit with this deal here has ended, it may resurface again later…. so perhaps others will still be able to get this sorted then (even with the Telstra chat hassles and difficulties in getting the full $20 port-in credits applied; unless they become even more difficult in the future. Having said that, some have easily gotten the port-in credit without any trouble whilst many [myself included] have to be persistent to finally get it in the end.).

    • Okay, today the $250 come off at JB website (all variants), so now, today price for my 256GB one is $1,449 for what it's worth….

      • Above comment, but with links.
