Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 Laptop: i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Xe Graphics $1447 + Delivery ($0 to Metro/ C&C/ in-Store) @ Officeworks

150

Robust hardware, quality metal build. SSD on an internal M.2 slot. 11th gen processor, not 12th, but the specs for the price (16 GB, i7) make it worth a look. meets evo spec, Windows 11 home. The Intel $50 cashback is available here and at a number of other Aussie retailers selling this hardware for the same price - but not Amazon. I've just linked to the officeworks page as it's fairly detailed.

The only caveats I've found so far:

it comes with Windows 11. Mixed blessing, that.

it's a Yoga, and Yogas do have a tendency to keep the fan spinning when put to sleep. Common Lenovo forum complaint, but then Windows sleep is barely sleep. After tweaking available sleep settings as much as I could in Windows 11, I just set it to hibernate on lid close instead. Probably need a fan control app; fan default rate when not under load is likely a little faster than it needs to be.

Charging is USB-C, using up one of the two USB-C ports. no HDMI.

Power button is at the side, far too sensitive and easily depressed in travel or bag, and just having it lying on a bed next to you can wake it. But the supplied pen in the plastic holder that slides into the single USB-A port covers over that.

Brightness can be turned right down. I spent a while staring puzzled at a black screen…

Good price, recommended this to a family member a few weeks ago as it has a good balance of high end specs (including a 71whr battery), and solid build quality.

You can get similar laptops refurbished on grays for around $7-800

    • Hi mate can you please recommend what kind of laptops is it? Im looking for one and doesnt mind the refurbished one! Thank you for any recommendation

      • I'm getting downvoted a lot not sure why. There is an online auction website called grays. Lenovo laptops frequently sold on there. Yoga 7, 9, flex 5, thinkbook, thinkpad and can get that quite cheap

        • Dunno, just checked it out myself. Looks like some good deals if you don't mind the uncertainty.

          • @Mister Popo: i just bought my first laptop from an auction, won it like an hour ago. will see what its like. I don't think its much different that buying second hand and actually should be better, cause these are refurbished and have 12 months warranty. but dont know how good the warranty is

Get Huawei Matebook x pro from Microsoft eBay, better, cheaper
    3000 x 2000 touch display
    16GB RAM
    1TB SSD

    • Cheaper? Isn't it $1699

        There's a 20% off code.

The webcam is near the function keys. What kind of an idiot thought of that and who was the moron that approved it?

    • Do you think it is really good choice and deals? since i still looking for good touchscreen laptop within that price range, and still couldnt make my mind

      • Well, I put my money where my mouth was and bought one. touchscreen on windows isn't needed, but touchscreens can be better built than none-touchscreens. And I wanted a laptop that would lie completely flat.

      • If you don't mind the webcam placement, it is far better than the Lenovo one. It is Huawei's top of line in pc, while yoga 9 (not yoga 7) is top of Lenovo consumer laptop

    • The Huawei laptop has better display and 1TB SSD, and $99 cheaper after code

  • What do you mean by no HDMI? I see a HDMI port in the pic

two of the photos are of a different laptop that is clearly not a 2 in 1 foldback touch. good job, officeworks.

      'no hdmi' means no hdmi.

      • Oh good one Officeworks, thanks for the confusion
And thank you for the clear post !

I bought one of these on New Years Day… it's a great laptop & awesome specs for the price… but less than 5 months after purchasing, one of the hinges snapped… which in effect then cracked the glass over the laptop screen… and shortly after the second hinge also gave way… so now I have a 2-in-2 laptop. That and the trackpad also stopped working about a month earlier than that. Trying to lodge a warranty claim has been painful to say the least - submitted more than enough information online only to get an overseas phone call telling me I need to send them a gazillion different photos of various angles, so they can "further assess" the issue. A Google search seems to show I'm not the only person who's had hinge issues with this model… seems to be a bad design :(

Incredibly frustrating given it's hard to find a nice looking sleek aluminium-framed laptop with the same specs as this (plus touch screen and 2-in-1 functionality) at this price… and where you can just go into a store to buy it rather than ordering online sight unseen. Normally I've trusted Lenovo devices… just hope you never have to claim anything under warranty!!

I think people considering the Yoga 7i may be better served by this offering from dell, currently at $1499, but with 12th Gen Intel i7-1260P (a 12 core CPU which is apparently a big jump from 11th gen quad core offerings).

  • Added note - the Yoga keeps randomly waking from hibernare too. Fans whirring away while closed.

I am having doubts about this purchase.

  • Lenovo couldn't fix the fan, despite an hour spent installing random drivers. It's going back.

This Intel evo stuff is overblown and doesn't live up to the hype, frankly.

luckily I have my reliable Ollees to fall back on. no fan noise there.
