Upgrade to nbn FTTP Connection from FTTN/FTTC for $200 at Eligible Locations @ Launtel

8727

This deal requires some explanation.

NBN Co is rolling out FTTP upgrades across the nation for existing FTTN and FTTC customers - meaning if you're eligible, you may be able to have fibre connected to your home instead of your existing copper connection.

How it works is this; For eligible services, sign up for NBN Home Fast (100/20 minimum) or higher for FTTN to FTTP and NBN Home Superfast (250/25 minimum) or higher for FTTC to FTTP and commit to a contract with your ISP, and your fibre upgrade will be "free". Of course, this actually means the cost of the upgrade is just integrated into a contract. Fine for those who need/want high speed - but some of us want fibre without having to pay for a premium plan.

Enter Launtel.

Zero contract. Zero commitment. Pay a one-off $200 fibre upgrade fee and then you're not bound to a contract. For me, this was ideal, as I got FTTP installed for a $200 fee, then dropped my connection back to 25/5 which is all I need at present. Also, being Launtel - they allow you to change your speed tier intra-day, meaning I can ramp my line up to 1000/400 for a day if I want, and only pay pro-rata for that day.

So if you want a fibre upgrade without being locked into a 1 year contract - do the math, Launtel might be perfect for you. No contract, free 7 day trial, multiple speed tiers. Great for those who want to even just get fibre run into the building and then disconnect the service (holiday homes etc).

Also - use a referral code to get free credit on sign-up so you can test that 1000/400 speed without paying a cent.

Step 1: Check if you're eligible for FTTC/FTTN to FTTP upgrade (even call Launtel if you're unsure).
Step 2: Churn your existing connection to Launtel (takes 5 minutes)
Step 3: Purchase the $200 FTTP upgrade option
Step 4: Await NBN fibre installation booking
Step 5: Welcome to fibre! Stay with launtel or disconnect or drop to a lower plan - whatever you like.

Enjoy.

But if you break the 1 year contract terms, they will charge you the $200 then.

      • Exetel does not

      • Isn't that better than paying upfront? If you break the contract pay it.. otherwise you get $16.67 per month towards that higher plan.

  • So I live in an area that's eligible for fibre upgrade. How exactly do I initiate with an ISP to get the upgrade? I'm on FTTN and connected via a 100/20 mbps plan with TPG (I know, I lucked out on getting good quality FTTN that I get 90mbps+ during peak hour).

    • +1

TPG isn't a participating provider for the upgrades so you'll need to sign up with someone else. A list of providers is here: https://www.nbnco.com.au/residential/upgrades/fttp-upgrade-w…

Launtel is about the only one that charges a fee. The others are free as long as you stay on the plan for 12 months (and reportedly More & Exetel don't even charge the fee if you don't stay).

      • You would think being one of the big 3, they would want to keep their customers. We're with iinet, but will churn when the network is upgraded (if we hear anything, that is).

  • Our suburb was announced in the initial rollout, and as yet still no upgrade. I saw them upgrading out point last May (Running green cabling). We were on 100mbs, but iinet rolled us back to 50mbs, as we were so far from theNode, and barely getting 60mbs.And yes we nave registered for updates.

    • I registered for updates and still haven’t received an email from NBN despite my area going live in May and completing my upgrade back then. Don’t rely on NBN to tell you just go check on the website (and be very careful with the wording, all they do is remove the word “soon” when you become eligible)

      • I checked the map a few weeks ago, and I saw about 6-7 houses in 1 street had fttp. What's worse is the street is on the border of the neighbouring 'houso' area.

        • If it's a new development it's nearly guaranteed they'll be getting FTTP as the developer has to pay for the connection. When my area went live they only upgraded around 100 houses on 3 blocks rather than the whole suburb at once….

          • @stirlo: It's in an older area, but maybe it's a new block of units, apartments etc.

      • I just checked our address with Exetel and Aussie Broadband, and it says we are not eligible yet etc.

  • My suburb was recently announced in April 2022 but I'm not able to connect to FTTP after speaking to a rep from More. I wonder how long it'll take.

    • i rang ABB, they said check back with them every fortnight, theres nothing documented about when it will be available even though NBNco website says it is

  • +1

This is only available if you are eligible for the upgrade, and taking up the upgrade requires you to select a high-speed service. Other providers will only charge you $200 if you downgrade from there, and at least one provider representative has stated that they will not charge you.

    This is not a deal.

  • +3

Not a deal. It is free to get connected if you are eligible and for most RSPs, you will only be charged the $200 if you change providers or drop below the minimum (100/20 for FTTN, 250/40 for FTTC) in the first 12 months.

An Exetel representative on whirlpool has confirmed they will not pass this fee onto the customer. So why pay $200 when you can get for free?

  • +1

Lol explanation. ISPs have no idea what is going on. Neither does the government.

  • i rang ABB since my suburb was listed as open from FTTC to FTTP, to get a quote or match this kind of deal. Even though its listed on the article as Altona North being available, ABB said that it isnt, and that they cant see when it will be, but to call back every fortnight and they can check if its open for upgrade

  • Hmm not a good deal at all, I would not give minus if you are already using FTTN or FTTC and your premis is eligible for upgrade, you can do that without paying 200 and even with minimum 100/20 or 100/40 with some ISP.
I'm doing already all for free, if you CBA customer you can even save 30 % for 12 months.

  • Nothing against Launtel (I am with them and love them), but this is not a deal, isn't this available for free with some other providers assuming you stick to a contract with them?

  • Aussie broadband is doing something similar. You just need to stay on with them for 12 months.

  • So the ISP is charging $200 up front when they should just be giving you a 12 month contract with no up front charge like every other ISP.

Charging extra usually isn't considered a bargain hence the downvotes.

Don't let this distract anyone from taking on a faster speed from another ISP and getting upgraded to fibre. Fibre internet has much lower latency (1 or 2ms), is much more reliable as there is less to go wrong and has much higher headroom for future speeds.

  • Honestly i don’t get the point here - I’m with FTTC (live in a house) and my plan is 100/20 which i get around 98/18 and it’s super good already, if I’m not upgrading to gigabit nbn what’s the point of the upgrade?

  • +1

I have been an early customer of Launtel and no longer a customer as they pushed the new pricing on me after pausing the service for 2 months and couple of days.
Their new pricing is not attractive for anything lower than 100/20.

In my opinion you are better off signing with more including 30-40% discount.

  • Furthermore, Launtel is prepaid and didn’t want to deal with contracts or refunding people $200 after 1 year. All these were considered and they opted for the $200 fee. Fanboys may be happy to pay it.
But remember this is free with other providers if you commit for 1 year.

    • I don't think you need to commit for 1 year for the More to get the upgarde

  • Yes , Got letter from ABB today that I’m eligible for free fibre upgrade with 20$ off for next 6 months. Cheapest plan is 129$ as I’m on FTTC.
Tangerine is 89$ for same plan and superloop i think was 119$ and 99$ if new to superloop for 6 months.
Is tangerine any good ? I’m with superloop now. Thanks

  • I try to register with More and if i choose the 250m option it come with a free upgarde.

  • Huh? if you are eligibel that means you get a free upgrade with almost all providers when you select a 100/20 or 100/40 plan. no need to pay anything, to be eligible all you need is fiber to the curb.

Not a deal it's just a good way for launtel to bank $200 from every customer and put it in a bank for some interest

Plenty of other providers out there that don't charge $$$ upfront

    • +2

Someone sees what they're really doing here.
      Investing the funds.

  • +2

My first time post and I'm negging. Most providers that are part of the FTTX>FTTP upgrade initiative don't charge you a fee for the upgrade. You should only need to order a 100Mbps plan if you're on a FTTN connection, or a 250Mbps plan if you're on a FTTC connection.

If after you're upgraded to FTTP and you downgrade your plan below that amount nbn charges the RSP a $200 fee, which the RSP then passes onto customers. It appears launtel is charging customers this fee upfront.

I signed up and got my upgrade from FTTC to FTTP via Leaptel. I pay $99 p/m and I've got a 250Mbps service. Didn't have to pay any additional fees.

NBN feeling pain of people ditching dumb NBN FTTC/FTTN/FTTB over 5G for better value in price

  • +1

Pay a one-off $200 fibre upgrade fee and then you're not bound to a contract. For me, this was ideal, as I got FTTP installed for a $200 fee,

    This isn't a deal.

You're using your personal situation of "happy to pay $200 for fttp since I don't have it ", as the basis for this deal. .

But isn't $200 cheap to get fttp? Sure is, however this isn't a Launtel initiative. To make it worse, couple of ISPs don't charge this fee or charge if and when you do drop speed tiers.

  • This deal requires some explanation.

Yes. I went to the site and found I needed to create an account before going anywhere.

A little like being asked for your name, address and phone number before being allowed in a shop.

I know who's getting something for free here…

  • You should not be paying $200 to switch to FTTP
Such a scam. There are no costs to shift to the consumer. Why is Launtel pretending that they had an expense?
