        • Interesting, I just clicked "buy now" when logged in and it took me straight to card details. Telstra stores can also do it without a credit assessment.

        • It is just asking for ID (eg passport, licence, medicare) or is it asking for employment details (eg, weekly/fortnightly income, employer, time with employer)?

  • Thanks OP, I have Telstra 5G home internet service so managed to order an iPhone in the MyTelstra app without any issues. At the end of the checkout process, it let's you pick a payment method on account or pay using a different card. Once payment was made, I received an order number. So used live chat to double-check that my order was placed successfully which it did.

I did visit my local Officeworks store this morning as well as call 1300 number - both were unsuccessful for me.

Well tried to do something nice for my wife and surprise her with a new phone. Signed in with my Telstra ID to purchase outright and need to validate my ID. Ok, seems over the top but I’ll do it…

Then, I couldn’t even validate my drivers license or passport because there is an apostrophe in my surname and Telstra doesn’t like those. It’s 2022 and digital forms still have this issue??

I suppose I’ll keep the money. Telstra have no issue debiting from my account each month though…

JB are price matching, if you have time to go to a live chat they will send you a link. Read the most recent comments on this post for more details

Thank you mate. Will give it a go.

I ordered the iPhone 13 128GB Midnight at about 2.30am - I just got a text message from Telstra saying it's out of stock and on backorder. Kind of annoying as the website is still showing as in stock.

    • Just to follow up, I've done a JB HiFi click and collect instead and have now cancelled the backordered Telstra phone. Even managed to use my $10 JB perks :) Thanks hawkeye93 for the JB tip

      • How do you cancel a Telstra order?

        • +2

I clicked on the track order link in the email from Telstra - there is an option to start a chat. I simply asked in there for the order to be cancelled given it was in stock when I ordered and now my order is on backorder. It took over 30 minutes for someone on chat to respond, but then they cancelled the order within about 10 minutes. The only downside is the refund may take 1 billing cycle they said (makes no sense to me).

Anyone tried price matching at apple store?

    • Generally apple will only reduce 10% on their price.

  • Anyone know if jb will price match?

    • +1

Yup. Refer to my reply below.

  • Me and my partner keep getting “We need more ID”.

Any way around it without going to a Telstra store which is an hour away?

JB does price match. Done mine via online chat.

thanks mate, hopefully it works out well. then won't have to wait for the backorder via telstra!

      • Can pickup as well (in 1 hour iirc).

      • agree, they gave me one which is on Telstra backorder, happy days.

    • Queue position: 40 in Jb chat now.

      hahahahahaha

    • Can i ask what did you say to them?

Because i called and they said that they have a contract with telstra to only price match the phone with a plan included only.

      • They said me the same, lol

      • They said same, lol

      • Don’t call. Just do it via chat. Tell them you wanna price match. Provide Telstra link and that’s it.

    • thank you legend! just got them to price match for me. For those trying it out, I got through to them faster via phone call (no wait) compared to chat

Does anyone know how long does it take for a backorder to get dispatched?

    • same issue here. got it on back order when I placed the order at 1:20am. Not happy Jan

      • I placed my order at 7am and got the text about the backorder around 9am. Pehaps they are putting all of today's orders as backorder? It'd be nice to know how long it'll take to get it.

I messaged them through the app and they said they couldn't tell me how long it would take for the phone to be ready to ship. But assured me that it'd be 3-5 business days to arrive once its in stock.

Just managed to get a price match via live chat on JB Hi Fi, quick and easy process to checkout. Going to get the phone soon! Thanks hawkeye93, and thank you OP for the new phone :D

    • JB HiFi call centre's chat line must be pretty busy today :)

Went into store and bought iphone 13 for $999, they setup a telstra ID for me with no additional cost.

    • Oh. I spent $2 to get my Telstra ID

  • JB Hi-Fi wouldn't price match via phone no matter how many times I tried but their live chat did it without hesitation. The queue of 30+ only took ten minutes to get through.

    • All good with JB hifi for me!

  • +1

I can't for the life of me find the live chat link on their website, could someone make my day and link it to me :)

  • Yaay yaay price matched with jbhifi live chat, got 2.5% off gift cards with shopback. Finally got iphone 13 pro 256GB for 1531.50$ 🥰

    • does your ShopBack card go through?

      • Yes, bought $1500 gift card lol. It takes few minutes to activate

  • Price matched with JB in store. Paid with gift cards.

    • How much off gift cards

      • 5% from the entertainment book. There are other places you can get at least 5%

  • Watching the queue position slowly tick over, making me anxious someone at JB will blow the whistle and halt all price matching

  • JB matched it for me outright cash : D they just had to convince me to buy case or power brick, and insurance (guessing to cover up lost margin). Didn't need any extras so walked away with 13 PM 256 for 1,719. lucky days : D

good thing I gave up last night with telstra, would've had to wait for shipping anyway.

  • Called a JB at 6 this morning and they said they wouldn’t do it cos of Telstra ID bla bla. Then they called me back around 8.30 saying they’d been emailed by head office saying they would price match all of Telstra’s deals.
About to grab one now, thanks, OP!
(Mind you, I called 5 OW this morning and got a no from every one.)

  • +1

JB you've done it again. They even gave 5% discount on Telstra price and no screwing around with backorders

    • 5% discount where ?

    • I only got telstra price 😢

      • Maybe salesperson was having a slow morning , I’ll take it😀 Telstra price is excellent

Got mine from JB Hifi chat. They were very nice, just tell them you want to price match telstra and the item details. They provide link instantly.

    • absolute legends. just got mine from JB too.

    • Yes, did they reduce the price or just the telstra price

      • They matched telstra price - no further reduction.

Just quietly, JB Hi-fi have to be one of the best retailers in Australia for customer service.

This Telstra Day deal is an absolute margin killer for any business that has a price matching policy. But not only have JB honoured it, but they've also adapted to meet customer expectations throughout this morning. Going by what staff told me in-store, they changed their position on price matching outright but billed through Telstra (i.e. can't pay in-store via gift cards) to honouring price matching and pay in-store.

    • Interestingly, the person I spoke to on the phone at JB Hi-Fi Nunawading said they were given specific instructions not to price match Telstra today. Thankfully this wasn't a universal policy.

    • When I worked for Vodafone (a long long time ago) the margin on iPhones was in the tens of dollars, certainly not the hundreds. I’m sure JB are losing money on this, and it’s why everyone else is hesitant to match it.

    • yeah big props to JB for honouring this! a few dollars loss on this product goes a long way to good will with customers!

I got a phone for my wife and I through JB (one online and one in store). Very happy with JB service today!

    • Ive had the opposite experience recently. It varies person to person, depending on who you get…

  • +1

Got one via jb live chat, thanks guys! The guy i was chatting with sounded like he was over it, poor guys

    • How long in the queue?

      • +1

When i joined it was 65. Only took 10 mins tho

  • +1

After my credit card wouldn’t go through with Telstra and then it referred me to a store for ID, JB price matched immediately and the phone is ready for pick up. Thank you JB!

  • Also secured an iPhone 13 Pro 256gb through JB live chat. 10-15 minute wait and was sent a direct purchase link straight away!

  • Dont forget to pay with discounted GC. I was able to get 4% via NIB Rewards

  • Zero stock iPhone Pro Officeworks WA - no backorder price matching options

    • +1

Try JB online, they have been giving the approval to price match all Telstra Day deals. Need to request price match via live chat.

      • Yes had no problems with JB, able to use coupons and gift cards I had.

        • Ended up getting last one at Good Guys, can Afterpay :) unless anyone knows of where to get discounted Gift Cards before COB

        • Are you able to use coupons and gift cards online after getting the price match link or do you have to go to the store to complete purchase?

          • @fedex11: You can use coupons and gift cards online through the link. I had gift cards used on my order.

  • +1

Anyone successfully bought more than 1?

    • Bought 2 through JB chat.

      • +1

Really? I was told by my chat assistant that it's limited to one per customer. Ended up ordering the other one through Telstra, on back order, without the additional 5% gift card saving. Grrrr :/

        • That’s odd! I would’ve jumped back on chat if that was the case! Some reps might not be as helpful? Mine was great no questions asked about making quantity x2 with same specs and colour.

        • Same, couldn't buy another one in a second chat session. Had to put my gf's details in a new chat session to get a new link.

    • Wonder if it's worth waiting for the Amzn prime sale next week. hmmmm….

    • got a clear case and tempered screen protector from Kmart for $10 for 13 pm. seems fine for now but will change it shortly.

  • +2

Can't the order from Telstra. As it is already processed. They said if you don't want it, just don't accept the package from auspost. Looks shaddy!

Is anyone getting an error which says “can’t use this id when I add the Driver license number

    • try using chrome/firefox

      • Did that . I guess it’s coming as I’m not a Telstra customer. Can I get the officer if I’m not a Telstra customer. Or can I buy a SIM card and be one and then buy the phone?

  • Need some opinions fellow OzBargainers - would it worth waiting until after iPhone 14 release and BFCM sales are on? Or would these prices be on par? Looking at the 13 Pro 256gb but not desperate and could wait 4 months.

    • +9

I had the same dilemma,I think inflation will hit prices on iPhone 14 and these discounts won’t improve soon.I decided to buy now.

    • Lots of rumours saying 14 pro will receive a decent upgrade this year. If you still intend to get the 13 pro after the release of the 14 pro then just buy it now.
