Carefully check the store credit conditions, including the list of brands (including Apple) for which you can’t use the credit.

The offer that they had at EOFY had the in-store credit expiring in seven days from issue, which felt really short.

    • +10

Not a fan of this tactic, timed so nothing good on special and with a expiry that tries to force FOMO also usually excludes all the good stuff

    • Didn't even receive that store credit

    Waiting for the new Air..

Same, it is expected to go on pre-order this Friday and be released Friday the 15th of July.

Waiting for the new 15” air in Q1 2023

      • +1

Hopefully this supports more than one external monitor!

      • is this confirmed? would love a larger screen on my air - 13" is a bit small.

        • -7

Nothings confirmed until the Apple event is screening.

This mindset is low IQ. It’s easier to get a part time job and earn an extra $1500 to enable one to upgrade to a more powerful base 16” M1 Pro NOW than to wait for a imaginary 15” MBA which probably won’t eventuate.

          • +1

@Icecold5000: mmm whatever you're on you gotta get off it

            • @tempco: On something? Am I the one waiting for an imaginary macbook model LOL

              • @Icecold5000: Well now now, I think you two have more in common. His 2023 15” air is currently the same as your girlfriend. Imaginary.

                • @moneybagz: I’m single. The only GF I have is the one which exists in your head not mine. Is this some kind of weird fetish? If so leave me out of it. Weirdo

                • @moneybagz: that imaginary macbook air is likely slimmer than his imaginary girlfriend, and also more responsive and less noisy while sleeping.

    • Hopefully it doesn’t suffer on base ssd like mbp m2

Don't buy MBP 13inch M2 256GB. If you really really really want one, get the M1 version instead

    • +3

Or get the M2 with 512GB….

      • +2

Or wait for the M2 MBA…

        • +5

The point is 256G. Not pro or air

          • +3

@sicaboy: Yea I know, but for similar performance the Air will be cheaper. This 13inch MacBook "Pro" doesn't make sense.

        • I've read that the M2 MBA might have overheating issues (no fan), or be factory limited (to avoid overheating).

For now, just speculation, but evidence-based speculation…

          https://www.cultofmac.com/782638/severe-thermal-throttling-i…

      • Or for that price just get the 14 mbp. You’re going to need to upgrade to 16gb ram anyways

      • +4

At that point, get 14inch m1pro base model. The most value for money laptop imo.

    • What’s wrong with it?

      • Significantly slower SSD speed compare to M1 model with same storage option

      • +3

The SSD drives have been tested to be significantly slower than the previous M1 model, mainly because they are using a single 256GB drive as opposed to 2 x 128GB drives. Whether or not that's a big issue is a personal thing really, although spending the premium over the M1 is questionable.

Personally, I wouldn't be buying that model since it is using a design and hardware (touch bar) than has been phased out of all other models. Some have speculated that the spec bump is purely to clear out excess inventory of parts for that model.

      • +4

The 13" MacBook Pro M2 256GB SSD 8GB RAM has a half speed SSD compared to the M1. The fast SSD is supposed to make up for the memory pressure when you're low on RAM, which at 8GB is any time you do any workload, even using Chrome or Safari with a bunch of tabs. You get the worst of both worlds.

    • But Apple might use the same on the new stock M1.

  • +3

Store Credit will expire at 11:59pm Tuesday 2nd August 2022.

Store Credit only valid when purchasing physical product and excludes Gift Cards, Epay
cards (including Spotify, Netflix, gaming cards, software subscriptions or mobile phone
recharges), Gold Service Extras, delivery, Mobile Plans, The Good Guys Home Services
installation and Tech Services. Store credit cannot be used to purchase Apple, AEG,
Asko, Miele, Neff, La Germania, Loewe and Falcon products.

They're going to quite the lengths there to not actually lose any money.

    • +2

They are no longer the good guys.

  • +2

I have been holding off buying a laptop for a couple of months for the M2 MBA, but I am very tempted by price of the M1 MBP 14".

edit: MBP 14 inch" appears to be OOS at the 8 Western Sydney stores.

  • +1

No mention of RAM spec for the Mac Studios, and no indication of how long the shipping delay will be
    🙄

    • Since they say 10% off, they match the base configurations on https://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-mac/mac-studio so the M1 Max comes with 32 GB and the Ultra with 64 GB. Apple says 1-2 weeks shipping for the Max and 7-9 for the Ultra. Its likely that The Good Guys will be at least a little slower than Apple.

  • Deciding between mba m1 16gb 256gb $1619 or MacBook Air m2 16gb 256gb (If SSD isn’t half the speed like mbp m2) or just get the mbp 14. But that’s like $700 more than air m2 or $1100 than mba m1… I get it has nicer screen and internals but like I think I’ll be fine with air (shame mbp m2 has half the speed ssd). Guess I’ll wait for reviews out in two weeks

    • imo not very many people actually need the 14"/16" MBPs with M1 pro/max chips. Most can't justify spending $700 more over the (already hyped) M2 MBA. My pick would be the M2 air.

      • Thanks! Yeah just waiting to see base ssd speeds

  • Should I buy the m1 air at 1349 or do you guys think it will get lot cheaper when m2 drops? Not in a rush but thinking of pulling the trigger. Thanks

    • +1

If you absolutely need a laptop right now you can get it. When the M2 air drops M1 prices might go down a bit but don't expect much. I would say 12xx would be the expected range. Don't quote me on this, but I think Apple will continue to sell the M1 MBA alongside the updated M2 MBA? Or at least the major retailers will still carry them for a while to come.

Similar to how they still continue to sell the M1/M2 MBP 13" alongside their updated M1 pro/max MBP 14"/16". The price of 13" MBP didn't really take much of a hit. People looking for more "entry-level" laptops are still going to be buying them. The updated M2 MBAs have RRPs that are a few hundred more = different target group.

      Just my 2 cents.

      • +1

Very good point re the base price of the M2 is a huge bump, enough that the m1 barely needs a drop.

The M2 has the same one external screen limit, which for me makes it impractical for a full replacement of an laptop. Which is a shame because it's otherwise a great laptop

    • +1

M1 air will stay at $1499 even after the M2 releases

      • You’re a chump if you buy the M1 Air for RRP at this point. They regularly go down to 1349 at major retailers. And have gone for even less and will continue to trend down to the 12xx range. We’re talking about price trends here, not RRP.

        • I bought the M1 Air a few weeks ago from Apple EDU store for $1294. Use supermarket GC discounts and get it for even less or with huge (20x) rewards points..

          • @GregRust: Do they check if I am a Uni student?

            • @Apue: No, no questions asked on pickup.

  • That 14” is cheaper than student prices

    I haven’t checked AOC tho

    • AOC price is $2658 for the base 14

I've been eyeing it off for the last week, can't decide between it, the xps 15 or saving 1000 and going for a zenbook

      • I stocked the apple gift card from big w and planning to buy it. if you want to save a hundred bucks, please let me know. I also spend up a post in the forum.

      • Depends on what you will use the machine for.

        • Dev work, couple of vms, photo editing, office tasks and general use. Maybe some casual gaming, although not a deal breaker — hence considering macs. 14-15“ 16:10 or maybe 3:2 preferred.

I could probably get away with a lower end machine in terms of performance, but the overall package (screen, build, keyboard and trackpad, battery life) of the pro and xps appeal.

          • @snep: Dev and photo editing would be great. I currently use an xps15 from 2017 but thinking of jumping to a macbook pro with the M1 chips.

In terms of gaming it's not that good so I dont bother gaming on it.

      What is AOC?

  • I wonder when M2 14inch will come out ??

  • does bonus credit including purchase from tgg commercial?

  • The best deal is buying from Apple AOC with 10-15% off Apple Gift Cards ;)

Colesworth has a regular 9-10% off… Apple gift cards - stacking on means your Macbook becomes about 20% off give or take

    • pardon my ignorance, what does AOC stand for?

      • Australian Education Union

        • Um, that abbreviates to AEU. Not AOC.

    • +1

plus gst refund TRS if you travel

    • Is there a limit to how many gift cards you can use to pay for something?
Or a limit on the amount you can use through gift cards?

      • 8 gift cards, or unlimited if you add all those gift cards to Apple ID balance and pay using that

  • Looks like they've got stock issues on a few of these. e.g. 16" mbp 1tb

  • AOC has Air M1 for $1294 as an ongoing offer if I am not wrong.

  • funny: when I pick Pickup option, it says “no store in 500km choose delivery” and when I choose delivery it says “cannot deliver to your address please choose pickup”!

  • Haha

  • +1

Thank you! Ordered an M2 MacBook Air and it’s awaiting pick up for delivery.

    • M2 MacBook Air? They are not available to order yet.

      • I ordered one this morning at around 9:20am

  • Officeworks is selling these for the same prices.
So can’t use their 5% Price Beat Guarantee offer 🥺

  • Is the 13" M1 Air still the best value mac laptop/desktop?

  • I cannot decide between base model 16 inch vs 14 inch 10 core CPU. They are the same price. Any recommendation, please?

    • The battery life of the 14inch will be much shorter and more heat issue.
Unless you're after the portability as priority I'd go with the 16inch.
