    S9+

    YOUR DEVICE TRADE-IN VALUE
    $0
Unfortunately, this device has no reuse value.
Please consider recycling with one of our partner programs.

    • same for me. bugger.

    • Got to do it before the product lifecycle rolls over unfortunately. Newer models probably have a longer lifespan with 4-5 years updates.

    • +1

Yeah, last year my s9+ had a trade in value of $55, now $0.

  • SquareTrade or SquareSpace

    • Thanks for fixing title

  • Is this only online or i can take my phone to the store for the process?

    • have to do the trade in part online and then once that is all completed can go instore and show them the codes for the trade in and bonus

      • But the RRP will be higher tomorrow? How do you get todays one-off special price for the phones?

        • they are open until 9pm tonight so you have until then to sort it all out, or do it online? Otherwise the price goes back to normal tomorrow. You still get the trade in deal but the phone will be a couple hundred more than it is today. I had lots of gift vouchers to use, why I went instore.

          • @souths123: Thanks. I can't go instore but in theory tonight we should be able to get a trade in voucher and then use that voucher to buy a S22 phone online at todays price. Very interesting!! Thanks.

    • want to know the same

    • get voucher online and now .. then buy phone online now

  • Any cheap phone to get in order to be qualified for this deal and $500 bounce?

    • iPhone 8 if you can score one cheap. I did but for the iPhone 7 months ago.

  • Do the samsung phones still come with ad and app spam?

    • No besides the Galaxy Store. And I'm very picky about that.

  • Where do you get the coupon? Do they send it to you when you apply for the trade in?

    • You'll receive two voucher emails, one instantly with your trade-in gift card and the other a bonus code.

      • +1

And you can use both immediately? As in I will only be paying the difference? Or is there some other thing that needs to be done once they receive my phone

        • Use both immediately once the emails come in. A trade-in gift card and a bonus code.

      • Was the trade in gift card an attachment? The email I received says it's attached but there is no attachment. Received the bonus one fine. Just curious as my trade in value was $0 anyway.

        • +1

Just checked, back in March it was attached not in the body.

          • @Techie4066: Thanks, yeah that's how it reads. Just wanted to satisfy my curiosity.

  • We can use JB gift cards to pay balance of the new handset order, right?

    • +1

Yes, and you can also phone up their sales line and request a sales discount get texted to you.

      • can you please advise if anyone can do this? sorry don't deal with JB too often

        • Phone 13 52 44 between 9am-6pm AEST, ask for a discount and they should send a link to your number.

      • What is a sales discount? Is that a coupon code that can be used on the S22 128GB?

        • A negotiated discount sent to you in a shopping cart ready for you to check out. You can add whatever codes and gift cards you want.

          • @Techie4066: I just called them up but said it's already discounted and can't do any better. Mind sharing a screenshot with the order details?

            • +1

@ibex: Here, more than covered the pre-order shipping.

Back then it came with Buds2. It might well be the case you can't negotiate further since the price has dropped $200.

              • +1

@Techie4066: Thanks for sharing. Don't think they'll apply any further discounts today as it's discounted

      • I tried this, the trade in coupon doesn't work with the sales discount they provide, but thanks for the info

        • np, realised that might be the case since the retail price has already dropped a fair amount

  • My s10+ trade in value is $160

    $1049 - $160 - $500 = $389

Would you upgrade if you are in my shoes? I am on unfamiliar ground here.

    • +1

yes, because in a few years your trade in value for the s10+ will be 0. Whereas you will still have value for the S22. And you can rinse and repeat.

e.g. I traded my s21 in for Z flip 3 for $60, then doing the same now from Z flip 3 to S22 for $20

    • +3

I would. I had an s10+ and it's garbage compared to the s22+ I have now.

      • Thx for the replies. I feel better now..

    • its high time you upgrade.

      • +1

Totally agree. I've been living under a rock for the past 3 yrs.

  • I have an S10e

    YOUR DEVICE TRADE-IN VALUE
    $90

Is it worth upgrading for S22?

    • Yep, in fact I'm encouraging a family member to before it's worthless and unsupported.

      • S10e is not worthless, its around $250 on gumtree and marketplace

        • Worthless as in for trade-in programs. It will be in the next year.

And the S10e really sucks now. Slow, hot and the battery drains fast.

          • @Techie4066: I agree with the battery but I wouldn't call it slow. Still plenty speedy for the average user.

            • @dqtl74: It might not be until you get a newer phone. Today the S10e performs like a budget phone imo.

              • @Techie4066: I upgraded to an X5 Find Pro recently and use the S10e for work purposes. The X5 is faster but not lightyears ahead.

The performance jumps are more incremental these days rather than revolutionary.

                • @dqtl74: You got 120Hz switched on? The performance score is half on tests and anecdotally it feels sluggish.

                  • @Techie4066: It's on 120Hz. I'm not saying it's fast, but the drop in speed is nothing like it was in the past with devices before say the S8.

Regardless, we're getting off-topic from the deal.

    • +2

I'm in a similar boat and the way I see it is you are getting 590$ for your 10e which you couldn't sell for that much 2nd hand on gumtree. Pretty much boils down to if you want an s22 or not. If this was the 22+ i wouldn't even hesitate

      • yeh but I'm hoping samsung will do a promo like they did with S21 where you get $500 trade in credits

      • +1

I'd go for it. The S22+ doesn't add much and I'm happy with the S22's battery life over the past 3 months. It's very similar to the S10e size-wise.

      • this works with any of the S22 line i believe

      • this is my thinking, I've got both an S10 and S21 and I'm thinking of trading the S10 for this deal as I may not be able to trade it next year as it'll be 4 years old by then

  • what if you don't send the old phone in?

the F&Q says “If our Returns Centre doesn’t receive your device(s) within 14 business days, we will either cancel your Trade-in Credit from JB Hi-Fi or charge your credit card the equal amount if the trade-in credit has already been redeemed.”

so they will charge just the trade in value or trade in value plus the $500 bonus?

    • lol omg, its samsung trade in all over again!

      • I'm just hoping the site doesn't crash like mad in the last few days… I'm hoping Samsung does one of those insane deals again

    • +2

Just the value as it's not JB managing the trade scheme.
(don't ask how I know, it wasn't my intention going into it)

    • +2

update: just got my $20 trade in credit in email, so I think it's just the $20 they will charge if you don't send the phone in.
so just IMEI is all you need to get this deal

      • +1

What about the $500 trade in coupon?

        • +2

well from what I said, they didn't charge me for it 4 months ago.

  • +2

welp im trading my s21 for an s22 for $200. Thanks OP for the find :)

    • mine is showing $420 for S21 256gb, so I would get $420 + $500 = $920, so i would have to pay $129 more?

      • assume so, mine is only 128gb.

      • After a fair bit of stuffing around, picked up the 256GB variant for $229 (replacing S21 256GB).

While they're 97% the same phone, I don't think it's an unreasonable amount to pay for a completely new, unmarked handset, full warranty, a faster SOC, minor but meaningful upgrades to the camera system, higher resale value (even if slightly), longer updates, and a reportedly brighter screen, albeit at the expense of a little battery life.

iPhone owners typically spend orders of magnitude more for similarly modest updates, and I don't see value in lock-in contract pricing plans, but different strokes for different folks.

  • S20 4G 128GB exynos to an S22 snapdragon, for net $349….no brainer….thanks!

  • +1

Why, every time there's a trade-in deal on, people purposely want to be dishonest and get all the benefits without trading their old handset?!

    • +4

It's why we can't have nice things.

    • +4

If they actually provided a reasonable trade in value, maybe.
$90 for an S10 is highway robbery.

      • +2

        It's technically $590.

        • Perhaps. But if you're able to get the $500 without sending the phone in, then it works out that the phone is only worth $90.

          • @webkit: Nope. Then you have an S10e and an S22 sitting in your hands, both of which you retain the value of.

  • +1

Is there a site with the list of phones eligible for this offer? Would like to know if it’s only S22 range?

  • crap, can't seem to verify my foreign passport, only for AussieBargainers then, I'll stick with the s21

  • is the $500 only available for the s22 or can we choose any phone available in their stock?

  • I would happily trade in my note 10+ but there is nothing new with all the features.

    • Just a word of caution, the S9 is now no longer eligible for these trade in offers, and the same will be true of the S/N10 series probably when the S23 comes out, if not sooner. So it might be worth doing it while you still can.

  • anyone know why they need your DL or passport??

    • +1

to stop people fscking around and not sending in the trade-ins :)

      • +1

Not sending it in is fine so long as your credit card is legit and they can charge it.

    • +1

In case you take the credit, don't send in your phone, and your credit card also turns out to be fake so they can't charge it. Then they send the debt collectors after you.

    • I think it's actually a government requirement for all second hand goods dealers which technically this would fall under just like cash converters etc. I suspect it's to do with being able to identify the source of any stolen goods received by them.

      • Ding ding ding… We have a winner.

Imagine if they don't do the ID checks then any crook can just dispose of their stolen phones and get credit for new phones.

  • Once again, a fully functional and cosmetically perfect Galaxy S9 is worth $0 as a trade-in…..
Almost tempted to go through the process of procuring an S10e for $200-$300, then getting the $90 trade in and the $500 credit.
    Almost.

  • Id verification is failing again and again. Any recommendations?

  • Where do you enter the gift card code?

Edit: Found it, it's in the checkout section.

  • Potentially S20 to S22 here. Seems like S22 has lower resolution. Worth downgrading there for the benefits of a new phone?

    • Lower res saves battery and S22 needs all the help it can get

    • +1

You'll notice the difference side by side from distances < about 30cm. Unless side by side, you either won't notice or you'll stop caring within a few hours. Like all modern smartphone upgrades within a generation or two, expect modest improvements and some refinement but a largely similar experience. In your case, the SOC and design are perhaps the most compelling reasons to upgrade. It's up to you to decide what that's worth.

  • Does anyone know the best method for a phone that is worth $0? Am I best off buying the cheapest phone for trade in or picking something and not sending it in (They may charge the $500 back)

  • Says i can trade in my s21fe 5g for $320 + $500 trade in voucher.

    $230 for an s21fe to s22 trade.

    • Do it. Your s21 Fe is losing value

  • Hmm.. i wonder whether it's worth changing the wife's Z Flip 3 to this for $79.

  • can you get the 256gb model? 128gb with no expandable storage sound like a disaster waiting to happen.

    • Yes. I got the 256GB model.
